"I'm a skeptic by nature and I still don't know how she does it, but Elisabeth told me more about myself and about critical points in my life than she could've known beforehand or can possibly be dismissed as coincidence or a parlor trick. And she helped me to use this as a framework to analyze the here and now more clearly. The session was definitely a positive, eye-opening experience."

Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 6/16/2011: Saturn, Gay Marriage & You

Keep your grounding cord down, as Moon in practical, make-it-happen Capricorn gets you out of bed, perhaps with a little flash of inspiration or a jolt.  Dynamic connections to Moon from disruptive Uranus, ruthlessly investigative Pluto and sobering Saturn keeps this day moving forward, with or without potholes. What revelation/illumination will the fallout from yesterday’s lunar eclipse/Full Moon bring? Another scandal? Keep an eye on this news source for headlines you may not see in your local fish wrap http://www.truth-out.org/news

In light of Saturn’s recent move forward in Libra, which seeks fairness, justice and balance in relationships, I noted several stories in recent headlines about gay marriage, one of the issues I predicted would be front and center during Saturn’s two year transit in the sign of the Scales. The NY State Assembly approved a same-sex marriage bill. Now it has to clear the State Senate http://edition.cnn.com/2011/US/06/15/new.york.gay.marriage/index.html. Meanwhile, a federal judge upheld Judge Vaughn Walker’s decision to strike down California’s gay marriage ban http://www.christianpost.com/news/gay-judges-ruling-on-californias-same-sex-marriage-ban-upheld-51173/

Be patient in areas related to mind, communication, travel and gizmos today. Mercury leaves its home sign of Gemini for the touchy-feely sign of Cancer. Less rational, more intuitive. It’ll take a day or so to adjust. Plus there’s all those waves from yesterday’s lunar event. Eat some potatoes if you’re feeling wobbly.

If you’re wondering how these intense planetary patterns are impacting you personally, consider booking a session to discuss your unique horoscope. Otherwise, if you enjoy reading this daily forecast, please pass it on – and thank you to those of you who already do. Gratitude!

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 6/15/2011: Full Moon and Total Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius

The Full Moon and total lunar eclipse happening at 4:14PM EDT in the sign of Sagittarius illuminates the New Moon agenda set on June 1st. How have new ways of thinking pushed you out of your comfort zone over the past two weeks? What do you need to release in order to move to the next level?

The Full Moon happens at 25 degrees of Gemini/Sagittarius. Wherever this degree falls in your horoscope is where you may be challenged to let go, not necessarily right this minute, but certainly over the next 3 months and 20-odd days (this time span corresponds to the duration of the eclipse).

For a meditation on the power of an eclipse — and especially this eclipse in Gemini/Sagittarius — you could do worse than rent the film CONTACT http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118884/ starring Jodie Foster. This film is worth seeing just for the opening titles. Camera pulls back from planet Earth, leaving the solar system, into the vastness of space. As we travel, we hear sound — radio waves transmitted decades ago, still beaming their way through space. The farther away from Earth we travel, the older the radio transmissions get. We are traveling back in time! And then…silence.

What happens in the silence? Or, as in the case of a lunar eclipse, the sudden total darkness. How does it make you feel? Back in 1997, when CONTACT was first released, I saw it in  a crowded theater. For some people, the silence was unnerving. Out of their discomfort, they started talking. They just couldn’t be still and BE. I challenge you to not be so unnerved.

In CONTACT, Jodie Foster gets to travel into space, allegedly on a machine devised by an alien intelligence. What does she find at her destination? Apparently her heart’s desire, sprung from her own thoughts and mindset. Imagine your thoughts blasted into outer space or some other “big picture” arena, and you get a sense of the extraordinary potential of this Gemini/Sagittarius eclipse. Out of your thoughts, your life takes form. Don’t believe me? Hold a question — or just an image — in your mind. Then let it go. See how long it takes for you to notice a response to your question — or something related to the image you had — manifesting in your life.

Another reason to rent the film: it was released in 1997, fourteen years ago, making it the halfway point of America’s Saturn cycle (Saturn cycles are 28-30 years long). How has our collective consciousness evolved since then?

The Sabian Symbol for 25 degrees of Sagittarius is “A chubby boy on a hobbyhorse.” Just imagine the adventures that child is having in his mind while “riding” that horse. And when he grows up, presumably having trimmed the fat, imagine him making those adventures real.  Food for thought!

Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 6/14/2011: The Republican Presidential Candidates, Briefly

In your own personal world, today’s Moon in optimistic Sagittarius, a sign that needs to tell the world its opinion on everything, could lift your spirits higher than the recent moody bastard Moon in Scorpio vibe in effect until 10:38PM EDT last night. Or it could add hot air to a simmering situation.

The Moon is waxing full — and will be exactly full Wednesday at 4:14PM EDT, coinciding with an especially long total eclipse. Emotions — and opinions — may well run high. Release of whatever is not working likely arrives after this especially potent Full Moon, which I’ll write more about tomorrow.

Yesterday’s debate among the Republicans who (so far) would be President happened during a void of course Moon, which suggests it was of no consequence. Perhaps the serious contenders haven’t joined the party yet. But a look at the horoscopes of these contenders reveals some interesting patterns. The dominant element of their respective Suns and Moons is Fire. Cain is a Sag with Moon likely in me-first Aries. Pawlenty is a Sag with Moon either in Aries or Pisces. Bachman is an Aries with Moon in (needing to be) socially significant Aquarius. Gingrich is a Gemini with Moon in Sag. Ron Paul is a Leo with Moon in Taurus, suggesting a need to make things “the way they should be”. Santorum is a Taurus with Moon in Aquarius, fixed in his ways — as is Paul. Mitt Romney stands out with Sun and Moon both in Water Signs: Sun in Pisces; Moon in Scorpio.

I’d write more, but I’m traveling today. To be continued…

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 6/13/2011: Saturn Turns Direct in Libra

Monday begins with Moon still in Scorpio, where it makes a potentially combative connection to aggressive Mars at 1:43PM EDT and then goes void until 10:38PM. Try to play nice with your toys today, and take care of essential business before the void if you can. When Moon shifts into fiery Sagittarius, the mood should lift noticeably.

Highlight of the day is Saturn, planet of ambition, structure and control moving direct as I type this on Sunday at 11:52PM EDT. Saturn has been retrograde for five months and perhaps put a hold on your personal business endeavors. Here’s what I wrote about the retrograde on January 26th — how did it turn out for you?

•    “Saturn, planet of ambition turns retrograde at 18 degrees of Libra at 1:11AM NY time until June 12th. The Sabian Symbol for 18 Libra is “two men under arrest” — suggesting, writes Blain Bovee, the Sabian Symbol Specialist I’ve often cited in this forecast, “a manifestation of irreconcilable differences”….hmmm…such as three Supreme Court Justices recusing themselves from SOTU? http://content.usatoday.com/communities/ondeadline/post/2011/01/justices-alito-scalia-thomas-to-skip-state-of-union-address/1  Bovee continues, ” there is a tendency to dig in rather than to negotiate. negotiation may seem impossible, plus the ‘other side’ is just as intractable in their beliefs.”‘

Saturn turns direct at 11 degrees of Libra. The Sabian Symbol is for this degrees is “a professor peering over his glasses”  Bovee writes, “Strangely, when optical instruments used to assist vision are set aside, only then can one see clearly eye-to-eye…The urge tends to be for major changes in how relationships function and a face-to-face, eye-to-eye, encounter may be in the offing. This does not guarantee a positive outcome, but it certainly promotes authentic and real relating.”

Well, that certainly suggests movement, in one direction or another, as well as a confrontation that perhaps has been avoided. On the plus side, we can expect projects put on hold over the past five months to gain traction. Wherever Saturn falls in your horoscope is the area of life you may find moving forward again. If you were born on the first or second day of April, July, October or January, you have likely been feeling Saturn’s challenge of serious focus for the past several weeks, to be continued until July 18th.
If you were born Oct – Dec 1981 or May- Aug 1982, you are having a Saturn return. This is a critical time in your life development; everyone goes through it around age 28/29. Pay attention to the sense of urgency you’re likely to be feeling. In what ways are you intent on establishing yourself in the material world? Are you thinking of changing careers? Getting married? Going back to school? What is the reach for ambition?

If you were born between Dec 1951- April 1952 or between Aug – Nov of 1952, you are also having a Saturn return. At this point in life, you may find yourself wanting to turn away from the material world. Having realized ambition during the past 28 years, nourishing the soul may now become more important. This can be a very good thing, even if other things have to be let go.

The United States is also going through a Saturn return, suggesting a review of priorities established at the beginning of Ronald Reagan’s first term. The third and final hit of the return happens mid-August…

Astro-logical Forecast for Sunday 6/12/2011: Postcards from the Void

Even astrologers need a break from the daily grind. After posting Thursday’s forecast at the town library in a rural Maine outpost, I put my astrological calendar away and decided to freewheel it. I spent Friday at Best Buy with the proprietors of my cabin-in-the-woods retreat, researching computers and communication devices needed to bring them into the second decade of the 21st Century. Turned out to be a fine application of the serious focus suggested by this week’s Mercury (mind, communication) trine from practical Saturn, as well as yesterday’s hook-up between Saturn and Moon. True to the Libra Moon’s spirit, we debated the pros and cons that evening and reached a decision on what to purchase, and vowed to return the next day to get the goods.

We bought the computer and mobile wifi thingamajig (actual technical term) as planned, and both are fabulous, though it seemed to take hours to get out of the store. However, another gizmo — an impulse purchase —  I thought I needed to transfer data from the old computer to the new one turned out to be the wrong gizmo. And it took us half an hour to figure out how to turn the mobile wifi thingamajig off; I was seriously thinking it was defective and would have to be returned. I actually placed a phone call to the service provider for assistance. Some days you need extra help with an on/off switch — d’oh!

But hmmm…impulse purchases that prove unsatisfactory; sudden crises that turn out to be “much ado about nothing” — what was happening among the planets on Saturday? Can you guess? Indeed, the Moon was void of course from 4:04AM until 8:33PM EDT, as I discovered just minutes ago. Coincidence or conspiracy?

Moon has now entered the intense sign of Scorpio, shifting the emotional tone of the past couple of days from airy to watery. Scorpio needs to go deep in its quest for knowledge for the sake of power and control. Sunday and Monday that quest is supported by an equally intense, informative hook-up between Mercury (mind, communication) and the Sun in pixie-ish chatterbox sign of Gemini. Add idealism to that Mercury-Sun connection and watch the headlines for the most creative spin. What bright ideas do you have today? Write them down, especially if you are artistically inclined. Talk about them. Get out and mingle. You might meet a real maverick type — or read about them in the headlines. Innovative Uranus in a supportive connection to Venus, planet of art, money, beauty and love favors encounters of the unusual — but stimulating kind. Let these planetary connections carry you through the next few days.

Just before midnight — at 11:52PM EDT Sunday — Saturn turns direct. More on that in tomorrow’s forecast.

Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday & Friday 6/9-10/2011: More on Congressman Anthony Weiner

As I advised earlier this week, Moon went void in Virgo at 4:13AM EDT — not to enter the next sign, Libra, until  6:31PM EDT. For East Coasters, this suggests a day to chill, brainstorm, take care of that which is routine (with Virgo, you could go nuts cleaning and/or organizing). It does not suggest panic, although the likelihood of someone flipping out over an imagined crisis (that turns out to be nothing of consequence), is increased during Moon voids. If you are challenged to move in a straight line today, just be mindful that you may encounter a twist, a flake or otherwise find yourself somewhat off course. See where it takes you.

My Moon void began with the realization that the technology I brought with me to an undisclosed rural Maine location does not support posting the daily forecast, and the only car available to take me into town had been driven to a golf course. OK, fine, there are worse commutes than walking two miles down a country road. Off I went, and after a mile or so, a passing car gave me a lift to my final destination, the local library. The resident library cats here are curious and affectionate, excellent company, and highly effective mousers.  So yes, the forecast is late, but all in all, this break in routine has been refreshing and restful. May you have a similar peaceful break today!

At 6:31PM EDT Moon enters socially-conscious, people-pleasing Libra, where it makes an immediate happy connection with loving Venus. Grab your rose-colored glasses, as the planet of love, beauty and money is also challenged by nebulous Neptune, exact at 4:25AM on Friday. If those rose-colored glasses turn out to be beer goggles, don’t say you weren’t warned. Under the influence of Venus-Neptune aspects transcendental, story-book connections can happen. They can also fade away in harsh light of reality. Artistic and spiritual vision can also be stimulated, so this is good news for creative types — and may be good news for your local con man.

Up in rural Maine, there is no sign of Congressman Anthony Weiner in the local paper. Instead I’m looking at a front-page article commemorating a teacher’s 40+ years of service. And on this Page 6, an exciting piece about a reporter’s daring rescue of four abandoned baby raccoons. But I see from the NY Times and other sources that l’affaire Weiner is still hot.

When I was looking at the Congressman’s chart a couple of days ago, tracking patterns that reflect this unfortunate event in his life, I could not help but notice not one, but multiple measurements that suggest the period of 2008 (that’s as far back as I looked) up to now was generally a time of great fulfillment and joy in his personal life. Even without an exact birth time (which we need for rising sign and midheaven), there are enough connections between Sun and Venus — as recently as March  2011 — that would likely be reflected as a happy time for marriage — and yes, the birth of a child. And yesterday it was revealed in the New York Times that Weiner’s wife is….pregnant.

Drilling down even deeper, I examined aspects between planets and the midpoints among planets. In November of 2009, we see an arc between disruptive, risk-taking Uranus and the midpoint of loving Venus and horny Mars which translates, according  to Noel Tyl’s outstanding reference texts as “intense passion; high nervous involvement with things sexual; sexual experimentation; dangerous liaison.” Weiner reportedly began his sexting adventures three years ago. His horoscope strongly suggests a need for risk and excitement. Makes me wonder what others born around September 4, 1964 have been doing in their spare time…

Life is complicated and filled with contradictions. Planetary patterns reflect life. Was it inevitable that this unfortunate series of events would happen in Weiner’s life? I would argue it wasn’t inevitable. But his horoscope suggests a vulnerability to such events. And maybe, just maybe…if Weiner were aware of this vulnerability beforehand, he might have used his awareness and free will to make more empowering choices under clear-as-day times of stress. That’s one way astrology can be of service.

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 6/8/2011

Information and organization, driven by a quest for perfection. Still sorting things out from yesterday? Today offers more of the same, plus a challenge to your New Moon agenda by the First Quarter Moon squaring the Sun at 10:11PM EDT. How far have you shifted from your comfort zone over the past week? Need to make any adjustments? Go a little further? Hmmm.

Have faith. Seriously. After all the information minutia overload likely flying around all day, an exact connection between nebulous Neptune in soulful Pisces and expansive Jupiter in steady Taurus encourages dreams, spirit  and vision at 10:42PM EDT — and y’know, you may find this aspect cutting through the TMI even earlier — a welcome relief from any yadda yadda yadda.

Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 6/7/2011: Congressman Anthony Weiner

Angelenos, you could probably get away with sleeping late today. A self-indulgent challenge to Moon from loving Venus is exact at 8:27AM PDT, at which time Moon goes void in royal Leo until 12:33PM PDT. If you encounter a twist to your morning routine, a crisis of “sound and fury, signifying nothing”; a general feeling of aimless wandering or other lack of focus, blame the void. Or blame yourself for not taking advantage of a natural break in the usual push forward. Voids are a good time to chill, brainstorm or just be present.

New Yorkers, you might enjoy an especially long lunch — how about a picnic in a park?

At 12:33PM PDT/3:33 EDT Moon moves into perfectionist Virgo, where it will spend the next two days trying to get the facts exactly correct and precise. A supportive, practical connection between Mercury (mind, travel, communication) and disciplined Saturn fights to keep us down-to-earth and focused. However, while the mind may strive to be focused, emotions may lean toward expansion and/or escape. Perhaps you can plan logistics for your August vacation (Mercury will be retrograde then).

Meanwhile, a slow news day yesterday, as Congressman Anthony Weiner held a press conference to announce that yes, he did send allegedly lewd pix of himself to a number of women who are not his wife. Weiner, born Sep 4, 1964 in Brooklyn (birth time unknown) is an allegedly discriminating Virgo with Moon in Leo, suggesting an enormous…need to be loved and adored. This need is either running wild in the horoscope, or augmented by an expansive connection to Jupiter in sensual Taurus. But if the Moon isn’t connected to that expansive, sometimes expensive Jupiter, a sexy hook-up between loving Venus and rarin’ to go Mars definitely is.Add to the Virgo Sun a magnetic connection with ruthless Pluto and a brilliant aspect between rebel Uranus and techno-geek Mercury and you’ve got a guy with a lot of pizzazz. You’ve also got a guy who isn’t afraid to take risks, and in fact, arguably needs to do so.

What’s going on in Weiner’s chart now? Nebulous Neptune (unreal) is exactly on Weiner’s Saturn (real), suggesting “depression, losing focus and a sense of being wronged,” according to master astrologer Noel Tyl. Ahhhh…so that’s why Weiner initially stated that his Twitter account had been hacked, eh? Neptune dissolves whatever it touches. If it’s in touch with Saturn, which represents structure, authority, reality and ambition, reality can feel a bit like quicksand. And this aspect will be prominent in Weiner’s life well into 2012. Also of note w/in the past two weeks: rebel Uranus making contact with Venus (women, social expression), suggesting more than a bit of disruptive excitement in those areas. And of course, Uranus refers to technology, including Twitter. Coincidence or conspiracy?

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 6/6/2011

A sobering connection from controlling Saturn to Moon in regal, fiery and sometimes overblown Leo could help bring you back to Earth this morning after yesterday’s rousing emotions. A supportive connection from Sun to Moon helps establish balance in the afternoon. By evening, however — at 10:01PM EDT — if you find yourself in a clash of wills or similarly combative state, blame the challenging square to the Moon from aggressive Mars in possessive, stubborn Taurus.

A detached, practical mindset offers lucidity by Tuesday afternoon, as service-oriented Moon in Virgo (as of 3:33PM Tuesday) tries to sort it all out.

Note the Moon voids this week: Tuesday 11:27AM – 3:33PM EDT and Thursday 4:13am – 6:31PM EDT.

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 6/3 and the Weekend: Nebulous Neptune and a Bit of Mitt

Ease into the morning, which begins with a potentially spacey or muddy feel on the East Coast, thanks to nebulous Neptune challenging Mercury, which relates to mind, travel and communication. Take note of your dreams & let me know if yours were especially “out there”. With the Moon now in Cancer, a sign which craves emotional and homeland security, leaving your comfort zone might be difficult, and you may find yourself focused on security concerns. Watch the headlines.

Meanwhile, on the West Coast, the morning may begin with a jolt or a flash of genius, as the security-craving Moon is challenged by disruptive Uranus at 9:04AM LA time/12:04 PM NY time.  The rest of the day you may be challenged by issues involving power and control. Try to respond by seeing the potential for growth offered by the challenge, even if it forces you outside your aforementioned cherished comfort zone.

Big news on Saturday is Jupiter, the cosmic sugar daddy, leaving the pioneering sign of Aries for the stabilizing sign of Taurus at 9:56AM NY time, where it will remain for a year. This is excellent news for Bulls, especially those born in the first ten days of the sign: look back to whatever was going on in your life 12 years ago — what opportunities did you have for expansion and abundance?  The key words for Taurus are I HAVE. Whereas Jupiter in Aries seeks its reward in ego-recognition or the excitement of a newfangled vision (with its accompanying risk), Jupiter in Taurus is can be the one who wants to die with the most toys. Or be the one who digs in his heels and insists that vision be damned, the bottom line is the bottom line.

Sunday dawns with a Moon void from 1:33 AM – 11:03AM NY time (Saturday night hook-ups are likely to be of no consequence), followed by Moon in royal Leo. Today the focus will likely be more on having the most toys than on the bottom line. Leo Moon wants to play, and a square to Moon from expansive Jupiter can be quite grandiose (just ask Charlie Sheen). Have fun!
As for recent headlines in synch with planetary patterns, yesterday Michelle Obama 86ed the Food Pyramid and introduced its replacement, The Food Plate http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/03/business/03plate.html?_r=1&hpw  So now we can all learn to think differently about something we do every single day. How’s that for a radical new mindset, as this month’s New Moon suggests?

Other headlines in synch with nebulous Neptune in Pisces pulling focus (review the New Moon forecast for details), include toxic chemicals (Neptune) in the Mississippi (Pisces) http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/03/science/earth/03runoff.html?hp ; email fraud known as spear phishing  (Neptune refers to deception) http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/03/technology/03hack.html?hp and a seemingly complete non-news story about a “mysterious” shipwreck on Malibu Beach that really isn’t a mystery at all — go figure. If it’s not a slow news day, blame this on Neptune stationary retrograde in Pisces — I mean honestly, New York Times — you put this on the home page????  http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/03/us/03shipwreck.html?hp

Last but not least, Mitt Romney, a Pisces ruled by Neptune, officially declared himself in the running to be the next President of the United States. Yes, I know I still need to talk about Tim Pawlenty, so I won’t go into too much detail here — and I’ll get around to Pawlenty one day soon, I promise. But here’s what’s interesting about Mitt. Pisces, Moon in Scorpio — this is a man who needs to be seen as someone of depth and substance, who acquires knowledge for the sake of power and control. He knows people. And people like him.

What’s interesting to me is Romney’s Gemini Ascendant is currently being squared by — nebulous Neptune. And Donald Trump’s Leo Ascendant is being challenged by — nebulous Neptune. And Barack Obama’s Midheaven (the other important angle in a horoscope, referring to career and status) is being squared by — nebulous Neptune. What an interesting pattern! Glamor, intrigue, masks, mystery, confusion, delusion, deception, fantasy — or sublime spiritual sacrifice, artistic success (especially in intangible media) — these are keywords for potential manifestations of Neptune in a horoscope.

To be continued…
