I have been sitting with the incredible experience of your gift and knowledge and letting it sift down into my understanding and psyche. It was a powerful time for me. I told a friend, "she is the real deal." I don't say that very often!

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 5/18/2012: Mark Zuckerberg & the Facebook Obsession

Information about worth and  thinking about the way things should be could dominate the day, as mental Mercury runs wild in the materialistic, resistant-to-change sign of Taurus. And that’s where the Moon — the planet that drives the need of the day — is, as of 6:03 AM ET.

Add to this mix a separating — but still optimistic and expansive Sun-Jupiter hook-up (also in Taurus). Toss in an over-the-top waste of emotions, suggested by loving Venus retrograde in an obsessive connection with ruthless Pluto, plus an equally obsessive connection between old guard Saturn (corporations, structure, discipline) and avant garde Uranus (innovation, rebel, technology). Mix it up with the lingering afterglow of the dazzling pixie dust of the challenging Mars (action) – Neptune (illusion, ideal) opposition that’s been reflected in the news since March.

Sounds like a perfect backdrop for the most talked about IPO in history — a.k.a. the sale of publicly traded stock in Facebook. And with regal Leo on the Ascendant at 11AM ET in New York, it’s hard to imagine this event disappointing in terms of projected confidence and regal glamour. Overvalued? With Venus retrograde, perhaps. Venus is the co-ruler of the MC (public status) of the IPO chart (assuming it starts on time), suggesting it may not be “full speed ahead” as it adjusts to its new public status. And really, who launches anything on a dead Moon just days before an eclipse? Someone who has not consulted an astrologer! Looking at the chart for the launch of Facebook on February 4, 2004, we immediately see Pluto and Uranus right on Facebook’s Saturn (structure)…suggesting a disruption of the status quo & enormous effort and controls required against a threat (real or imagined) of possible loss. Let’s see where that stock is a year from now.

In your own personal world, note the inspired visions that hit you around lunchtime on the East Coast. How will they influence your management of the potentially overwhelming flow of information likely driving this day? The need here is to make visions real…and on a Friday, no less. It’s usually lovely to have the Moon in sensual Taurus through the weekend, giving you time to indulge in feel-good activities — whatever makes you feel comfortable and secure. Do your major shopping on Saturday, as the Moon is void of course from 8:35AM – 7:05PM ET on Sunday.

More on Facebook — specifically, Mark Zuckerberg (5/14/84 — time unknown — White Plains, NY). Today I was watching an interview with him from several years ago. He comes across as very calm and controlled  on camera — a rock solid Taurus. But was that a bit of a stare I saw in his expression? Where was the Scorpio in his horoscope, I wondered (the “Scorpio stare” is not an astrological myth; it’s a fact).

Sure enough, Moon, aggressive Mars and disciplined Saturn are all  together in Scorpio. How this man needs to be seen as a person of depth and substance, using knowledge for the sake of power and control! How he could build all the way down to hell…or all the way up to heaven! Rebel genius Uranus in pie-in-the-sky Sagittarius runs wild in the horoscope — seeking an anchor with two key midpoints that suggest a need for a strong sense of purpose and a soulful need to be of service. Ruthless Pluto — also in Scorpio — challenges mental Mercury, suggesting incisive thinking and a mind that could shred you to pieces if provoked. Driving passions…to the point of obsession? Sure, the horoscope suggests those, too. Nebulous Neptune is at the Aries Point, suggesting a need to become known for working with intangibles. Other measurements suggest an instinctive nose for business and an earthy, practical generosity.

Happy Friday!

Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 5/17/2012: O Sole Me-Oh!

Moon continues charging  through RAMbunctious Aries, albeit with less volatility than yesterday…then goes void with a sigh on a “grace under pressure” pattern among Moon, Venus (social expression, money, women, love, art) and ambitious, sometimes chilly, Saturn at 5:44PM ET. With the Moon in Aries, we can expect impulsive actions and self-centered agendas. We may also see news of pioneers, courage and inspiring leadership in the headlines and in your own personal world.

We are in the balsamic phase of the lunar cycle, a time to wrap up your to-do list from the New Moon and start thinking about your goals for the next New Moon, which happens at 7:47PM ET. This New Moon coincides with a potent solar eclipse and it’s quite a kick off to what I suspect will be one hot summer. Have those words created a sense of restlessness — and a sense of anticipation, knowing the new cycle is just around the corner, but not knowing quite what it is or what to do? That’s often the case in the dark side of the Moon…

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 5/16/2012: Venus Retrograde, Part 2

With the Moon charging ahead in me-me-me Aries (as of 5:45PM ET Tuesday), we can anticipate an active day, punctuated by a surprise, a shock or a flash of insight around 8:11AM ET…and a power play, catharsis or other deep encounter (including news from underground) around 12:10PM ET. Headline news about power/aggression and resources (including nuclear energy, oil and mines) are also a potential — and oh, look, as I’m typing, here’s a story about the former military commander of the U.S. nuclear forces calling for a reduction in nuclear warheads right on the New York Times homepage– amazing.

You may be on  your own personal power surge today — and with Venus now retrograde (as of 10:33AM ET yesterday), remember to add an extra bit of consideration in your social interactions. Venus retrograde offers an excellent opportunity to FOCUS on what we need in relationship — and to give to others the kindness we would like to receive from them.

The span Venus will retrace over the next seven weeks is 24 to 7 degrees Gemini. If you know your horoscope, that area is where you may find opportunities to review issues of integrity in relationship and/or financial and aesthetic concerns. It can be challenging to assess the true value of something during a retrograde, so you may want to wait before making firm commitments one way or the other. Example: a friend of mine once bought an apartment during Venus retrograde — and while it seemed to be an excellent deal at the time, she could have paid less, especially since she discovered (after the sale closed) that the apartment had flaws the seller had deliberately covered up. Do your due diligence in matters of love, money and beauty.

The Sabian Symbol for 24 Gemini is “children skating on ice,” or to quote Blain Bovee, “an image of unsteady legs trying to move forward on unfamiliar terrain”.  We live in ever-changing times, and patterns suggest we are about to move into a time of increasing volatility. These patterns will likely offer exciting new opportunities…and as we find our paradigms shifting, how we connect and relate with each other may also be subject to change.

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 5/14/2012: Deep Thoughts & Mystical Revelations

…and what deep thoughts might be going through your mind, as mental Mercury in security-building Taurus makes an easy connection with resourceful, empowered, dirt-digging Pluto this morning at 4:09AM ET? Research and investigation; empowered (there’s that Pluto word again) communication — just download it from the ether, why don’t you — and give it form. Tremendous resources are available to you this week — both mental and physical ones — so make the most of it.

Moon in Pisces suggests going with the flow and getting everything off your desk of significant consequence that needs to move in a straight line today, rather than tomorrow. On Tuesday, Moon will be void of course in dreamy Pisces from 7:59AM ET until 5:454PM ET.  We’ve got another long void on Thursday at 5:44PM ET until Friday at 6:03AM ET. Moon voids suggest a higher probability of twists in even the simplest of tasks; the challenge is to roll with them. If your project is time-sensitive, get it done today.

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 5/11/2012 & The Weekend: Jamie Dimon Makes Headlines Again

Plenty of buzz today as mental Mercury butts heads with the Aquarius Moon which is striving for  liberte, egalite et fraternite, while communication centers around the way things ought to be. Innovation and creativity in resolving some of these challenges may turn up around lunchtime on the East Coast. No major aspects scheduled for until 5:47PM ET on Saturday, leaving you free on Friday to head for the nearest happy hour and meet up with your new best friend — anyone sitting at the bar will do.

The 3rd Quarter Moon (time noted above) on Saturday night suggests a challenge between personal pleasure and/or material security and more humanitarian concerns. I’ll put my money on the former, given expansive and indulgent aspects to Moon from jolly Jupiter and loving Venus at 6:40PM and 8:13PM ET, respectively. If it’s a date night, it could be expensive. Moon goes void at 8:52PM ET — raising the probability of flakes and twists…which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Moon enters soulful Pisces  at 7:24AM ET. You can float through this day with passion, optimism and creative imagination. What big dreams could you make real with Sun and Jupiter conjunct in Taurus at 9:24AM ET, I wonder…

Alternatively, what big dreams might turn out to be wretched excess (another Jupiter potential). I don’t know what “wet blanket” might have hit your world on Thursday afternoon, but in the world I happened to be watching, word of a stunning $2 billion dollar loss at JPMorgan Chase made the wires. The cause? Some convoluted financial scheme imploded, perhaps perpetrated by “a JPMorgan trader in London whose bets were so big that he was nicknamed “the London Whale” and “Voldemort,” after the Harry Potter villain”.  JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon, written about in this forecast on March 13th , wasted no time in admitting the company had been “stupid”. Gotta love the bluntness and courage that can be expressed by a someone with Moon in Aries.

Mr. Dimon has transiting Jupiter square his natal Jupiter (exact on May 13th), suggesting a potential for excess or being overextended. It suggests a projection of great confidence — which can be an enormous asset.  Looking ahead at the next few months in the horoscope,  we can expect forceful and persuasive effort and challenges to be met,  as structures and thought patterns believed to be solid may not be quite as they seem. The horoscope also suggests a period of truly inspired thinking — or, alternatively — pure fantasy.

With astrology, there’s always a potential upside and a potential downside. It’s up to us to choose how to tap in and manifest the opportunities suggested by planetary patterns. Becoming aware of the patterns can be quite empowering.

Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 5/10/2012: The Power of One

An upbeat flow is suggested in the early morning, as Moon and Sun make easy contact at 8:03AM ET — followed by a jolly Moon-Jupiter connection at 11:57AM ET. Moon is still in Capricorn, driving the need to make things happen.

As the day progresses, a more serious, ambitious mood kicks in, suggested by a hard connection between Moon and disciplined Saturn. Suddenly feeling all alone in your quest for glory? Sometimes a sense of lack, challenging as it may feel, makes the next move crystal clear.

Moon goes void at 3:11PM ET on that potentially “wet blanket” Moon-Saturn connection…not to enter Aquarius until 1:03AM ET on Friday. Use the rest of the day to chill, ponder, brainstorm, avoid impulse shopping and roll with whatever twists may arise. If you’re in need of inspiration, here’s a meditative bit allegedly penned by Charlie Chaplin on his 70th birthday, according to the “internets” (Abraham Lincoln famously warned citizens against believing everything posted on the web, as I am sure you all recall from your studies in school). Anyway, whether Chaplin wrote it or not, there is wisdom and comfort to be found — and I’ll take it wherever I find it. If you prefer your “poetry” set to music, someone on YouTube made a video just for you.

In other news, were there any “surprises, revelations, power plays and/or revolutions” in your own personal world yesterday, other than President Obama’s sudden declaration that, after wrestling with the issue for two years, he believes that same-sex marriage should be legal?

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 5/9/2012: Bread & Roses

An intriguing mix of seemingly contradictory aspects continues…

Moon in enterprising Capricorn urges us to get down to business, supported by a stabilizing, self-sufficient  connection among resourceful Pluto, energetic Mars and mental Mercury in Earth signs. This pattern may feel like an echo of the Big Giant Earth Grand Trine that dominated March, but maybe not quite so rich.  Disciplined Saturn (business, order, structure)  in an easy connection with Venus (money, women, art, love, beauty) may lean toward conservatism in the management of  resources — and also in the structure of relationships. I’m sure that how North Carolina voters will rationalize their thinking in voting for a formal amendment to ban same-sex marriages.

In other news, optimism and/or idealism are on the rise, as expansive Jupiter and the Sun (life force) approach their annual hook-up — exact on Sunday — in material comfort-loving Taurus — that’s a lot of bread, man.  Meanwhile, nebulous Neptune’s communicative connection with mental Mercury, now also in Taurus, fosters creativity or fantasy based on a need to keep things as they “should” be. A rose-colored world, anyone? Take note of your dreams over the next few days.

Contrast the above “resistance to change” aspects with the disruption of the status quo and power plays suggested by rebel Uranus and ruthless Pluto.  Both will challenge the ambitious Capricorn Moon at 9:32AM and 1:33PM ET, respectively. What surprise, revelation, revolution or other excitement may cross your desk — or the newswires — around those times, hmmm? Maybe it will set you free. If you can find a way to apply it constructively, much can be accomplished at this time.

It just occurred to me that crusading Mars is still in Virgo, which refers to work and workers. And the revolutionary quality of Pluto’s clash with Uranus (which we’ll be experiencing en masse over the next three years), puts another spin on the words  “bread” and “roses”. So here’s a blurb about a revolutionary event in US history: the so-called Bread and Roses Strike of 1912 — that’s a hundred years ago — imagine. And here’s a recording of the song, “Bread and Roses” featuring historical photos and lovely watercolors and vocals by artist Kate Vikstrom.  Amazing how so much has changed…and yet how much remains the same.

Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 5/8/2012: Venus Retrograde, Part I

As mentioned yesterday, Venus goes retrograde on the 15th at 10:33AM at 23 Gemini. Venus refers to how we need to express ourselves socially. It also refers to women, art, beauty and money; in health matters Venus refers to the belt line area of the body (and internal organs at the belt line, as well as the thyroid and the throat.  Venus also rules copper, which is an important indicator of economic growth in the commodities markets.

In our social interactions, Venus is the sugar that sweetens our needs and demands, facilitating cooperation in relationships. When direct in motion, Venus supports social graces and words like “please” and “thank you”. When retrograde, courtesy and consideration do not come so easily — and relationships suffer the consequences. The image I hold of Venus retrograde is one of those old-fashioned sardine cans — the ones where you had to use a key to open them. Roll back the lid of the sardine can and there you have it: stinky fish exposed, for all to see. There’s no hiding that smell!

Venus retrograde offers a relationship, material or aesthetic challenge wherever Venus is traveling in your horoscope, in this case 7-24 degrees of Gemini. Tried and true connections may be strained, but durable. Less sturdy bonds may snap. All that fishy smell can mess up our aesthetic senses, too. Be very careful about starting a fling with that hot new thing during this time period, lest ye awake in a month or so with buyer’s remorse — or worse — the horrible panicked aftermath of a coyote date. This applies to all partnerships, not just romantic ones.

Don’t believe me? Just ask the voters who put those Tea Party rock stars in office in the November 2010 elections, despite the suggestions posted in this forecast (search the archives) that they might live to regret it. In Wisconsin, Governor Scott Walker faces a recall election; governors in at least five other states have rankled voters with their “bullying tactics”.

Exercise caution in matters of decor, too. If you’re planning on redecorating, you hopefully have your colors picked out now, rather than during Venus retrograde. Putting in an offer on a new home? The value of the home may be inflated; make sure you’re not paying too much. Look under the rugs, kick the tires — make sure you’re not seduced by surface charm covering up so much….stinky fish.

So what good can come out of Venus retrograde? Artistic and creative projects you abandoned may be ripe for a second chance at completion. Review your handling of financial matters; perhaps there is room for some REorganizing and REstructuring (the RE refers to the REtrograde). You may find yourself REconsidering the value of all of your relationships between May 15th and June 28th, but there’s no pressure to make a major leap forward or break until Venus moves forward again.

More on Venus retrograde later. As for today, Moon in high-flying Sagittarius gets off to a self-indulgent start, opposed by loving Venus at 10:39AM ET…then settles down and gets serious, courtesy of an easy connection to Saturn at 12:58PM ET…wrapped up with another easy communicative connection between mental Mercury and Moon at 9:43PM ET. Got something you’d like to talk about it? If heavy emotions are involved, blame ruthless Pluto’s continuing obsessive connection with Venus.

After a half hour void, Moon moves into “make it happen” Capricorn at 10PM ET, setting a dynamic tone for Wednesday.

More anon.

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 5/7/2012: Monday, Monday

Generally speaking, Moon in Sagittarius…where it moved last night at 9:39PM ET (after a loooong 13 hour void)…tends to lift the spirits, even when its fueled by philosophical debates that can get a wee bit rowdy (Sagittarius is not the most perfectly groomed sign of the zodiac…and you wouldn’t be either if you were half-human and half-beast, as all Centaur-Archers are). Today, however, the opinions that need to be expressed may ruffle a few feathers, suggested by a challenge to Moon from aggressive Mars in hypercritical Virgo at 8:18AM ET. The emotional outburst that may follow could be over the top, suggested by an obsessive connection between ruthless Pluto and Venus. Put your Big Girl Panties on and use a bit of charm and objective strategy to acquire the resources you need. We’ve got one more day of mental Mercury in impulsive, quick-tempered Aries; by Wednesday cooler heads will likely prevail (though they may not be nearly as inspiring or exciting).

As the day progresses, any storm clouds in your world are likely to dissipate. Take advantage of opportunities to broaden your mind and sense of physical space — or just enjoy a gambol/gamble or two.

Moon voids this week (to help you plan your agenda): Tuesday 9:34 – 10PM ET; Thursday 3:11PM – 1:03AM Friday ET.

Coming up later this week: what to expect when Venus turns retrograde at 10:33AM ET on the 15th. If you’re thinking of redecorating your home, I hope you’ve picked your colors out already….

Astro-logical Forecast for 5/5/2012: Full Moon in Scorpio

A few words about the Full Moon in Scorpio, exact tonight at 11:35PM ET because…well…I said I would write something. And because a few readers are wanting to know what a Supermoon is. Credit astrologer Richard Nolle with coining that phrase to describe “a new or full Moon which occurs with the Moon at or near (within 90% of) its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit (called perigee)”. Look up and that Moon will look very BIG in the sky. Closer to Earth suggests a more intense Full Moon than usual, and experience shows that we often see weird, wacky weather along with it. Another fun fact, especially for Scrabble buffs: With the Earth, Moon and Sun all in a line (called syzygy), and with the Moon in its nearest approach to Earth, a Supermoon is also called perigee-syzygy. I challenge you to play “syzygy” in your next Scrabble game.

  • Syzygy: Astronomy . an alignment of three celestial objects, as thesun, the earth, and either the moon or a planet: Syzygy in thesun-earth-moon system occurs at the time of full moon and new moon.
  • Perigee: Astronomy . the point in the orbit of a heavenly body, especially the moon, orof an artificial satellite at which it is nearest to the earth.
This Full Moon leaves me speechless. It’s in Scorpio, which needs depth and substance.  I could flippantly say that Scorpio wrote the book on intimacy, the kind that draws people in like a magnet or sends more skittish and scattered types running screaming down the halls. Got a planet in Scorpio? Whatever it rules in your horoscope it can take you all the way down to hell or all the way to heaven…but oh, what you will know as a result.
Taurus and Scorpio are both concerned with values and other assets. Taurus is concerned with the values of the individual; Scorpio refers to values/assets/resources that are shared. It is in these areas that you may find illumination suggested by a Full Moon.
The Sabian Symbols for the Sun at 16 Taurus opposing the Moon at 16 Scorpio are “a battle between the swords and the torches” and “a woman the father of her own child” and as usual, Blaine Bovee is the go-to guy for further explanation:  “strife between powers of the mind and powers of spirit and passion”  vs. “a spirited sense of self-fertilization and independence” .  Possible manifestations include “matters of spirit over ideas….denial, such as teenage mothers who insist they have never had sex….Gothic romances where passions collide with social and political realities; campaigns to supplant cold technology with agrarian simplicity…choosing between cutting away from or twisting together”.
Supplanting cold technology with agrarian simplicity, eh? From the New York Times home page: today the last nuclear reactor in Japan was shut down   while in Brazil, massive hydroelectric constructive projects are disrupted by workers who want more assets, and criticized by environmentalists.
If  you have a planet around 16 degrees of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius, you’ll likely feel the pull of this Full Moon more personally. I have Neptune at 15 Scorpio, so a need for depth of spirit and other intangibles, such as music, have been driving this day. I’ve been listening to the soundtracks of Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita — talk about “passions colliding with social and political realities”! On impulse, I looked up the horoscopes of composer Andrew Lloyd Webber (3/22/1948 4pm Westminster UK) and lyricist Tim Rice (11/10/44 5:45-?- Amersham, UK). Serious astrology buffs, you are going to seriously flip out (everyone else, just play along): Lloyd Webber has Venus, Saturn and Midheaven (career point) at 16-17 Taurus AND Mars-Saturn at 16-18 Leo. Rice has Sun, Mars and the Jupiter/Saturn midpoint (which refers to one’s sense of purpose) at 18-19 Scorpio.
Last, but not least, minutes ago this fascinating story about prisoners in Louisiana mounting a musical production about the life of Jesus Christ just hit the NYT home page:  At some point I’ll write more about matters of spirit manifesting in works of art, as suggested by nebulous Neptune’s recent entry into Pisces. Suffice it to say that it is no surprise to see revivals of Godspell and Jesus Christ Superstar currently playing on Broadway, along with a musical remake of the Steve Martin movie Leap of Faith
If you’re a serious student of astrology, consider getting Bovee’s book, The Sabian Symbols and Astrological Analysis.
