Monday 8/28/2017: Sneak Peek at the Week; Houston & Other Horrorscopes

Good Morning!

Intense, deep, stubborn, controlling and wet — those are a few keywords for the Moon when it is in Scorpio, where it’s been since early Saturday. As of 5:38 AM ET, it’s also void of course — i.e., traveling without focused direction until it enters the next sign — Sagittarius — with a huge sigh of relief. That shift happens at 3:48 PM ET. Until then, roll with the flakes and twists. Stick to routine. Crises which crop up during voids are often much ado about nothing. Chill! Your other Moon voids this week happen on THURSDAY 12:42 AM ET – 4:18 AM ET and SATURDAY 12:30 PM ET – 4:06 PM ET.

Once the Moon enters Sagittarius, everyone is sure to have an opinion — the more boundary-pushing, the better. Get out of your rut; expand your mind; connect with nature; catch a foreign film; think positively; avoid putting your foot in your mouth and/or tripping over the furniture.

On THURSDAY retrograde Mercury backs into Leo at 11:29 AM ET, where it will slow to a crawl as it prepares to move direct on Tuesday, September 5th. What does this suggest? Note that Action Hero/Angry Bird Mars will be at 28 Leo on SATURDAY and SUNDAY. Last week’s awesome solar eclipse happened at 28 Leo. A planet that travels to the degree of an eclipse serves as a trigger — i.e., a release of energy/action bottle-necked by the eclipse. Got that?

Mercury (information, communication, travel) will meet up with Mars at that same degree — 28 Leo —  on SUNDAY at 5:39 AM ET. What will be the fallout (sometimes, literally)? What secrets will be revealed? What royal edicts will be issued (when cooler heads really ought to prevail)? Mercury will hang at 28 Leo until it turns direct. Could be an interesting few days for those with significant planets and points at that degree. Consult your local astrologer for details.

And now, the news.

A harmony between Mars and Uranus on SATURDAY at 8:13 AM ET suggests headlines including, but not limited to tech breakthroughs and aviation. We shall see.

Meanwhile, water, water everywhere — in Texas.  Hurricane Harvey continues to rain on Houston, reflecting the wretched potential of a depth-seeking Scorpio Moon. Why Houston? Why now?  Are there any astrological patterns suggesting this heartbreaking horror show?

Well, it is interesting to note that the chart for the August 21 solar eclipse set in Houston has a Midheaven (public status) of 0 degrees Virgo — with the eclipsed Sun and Moon sitting right on top of it, separated by just one degree. The chart set in Houston has a 23 Scorpio Ascendant, challenged by the North and South Nodes. I’d translate that potential as an image of depth and control, while feeling trapped between a rock and a hard place. Mars is at 20 Leo, physically challenging that image when it hit 23 Leo early Saturday morning. We will see more Mars action in this Houston New Moon chart between September 2nd and 5th.

New Moon in Houston

It is also interesting to see Neptune running wild in the chart, yet in an obsessive-compulsive relationship with the Sun and Moon. Neptune refers to water, floods, displaced persons, dissolving of boundaries. This pattern was in the chart for the New Moon/Eclipse in every location. Neptune also refers to oil, oceans and naval matters — and here I would be thinking of another recent big headline: the collision of a oil tanker with the U.S.S. John McCain, in which ten U.S. sailors perished.

Meanwhile, the city of Houston also has a horoscope — born on August 24, 1836 at 12:38 PM. Houston’s Sun is 1 Virgo — also hit by the August 21st eclipse. Coincidence or conspiracy? We see Mars hot in this horoscope late next week — the 7th through the 9th. We anticipate action and/or assertion.

Of course there is always the possibility that the real culprit here is Mother Nature, aided and abetted by climate change caused by human activity, like most scientists say. And that it doesn’t really matter to Mother Nature that U.S. government agencies, under the dangerously deluded direction of the P45 adminstration, have scrubbed the words “climate change” from their websites.  Guess they haven’t gotten around to NASA yet.

Thinking of all Avid Readers in Harvey’s path — hoping you are safe and sound. If you are not in Harvey’s path, here are ways to help.

In other news…

Some weeks ago in Astrologer Land there was an article published arguing that the time on the birth certificate released by P45 wasn’t correct, and that we should be using the birth time cited by his mother.  I don’t know about that, given the responsiveness of the horoscope calculated with the time on the birth certificate. For example, we’d expect a public assertion of regal machismo on or a day before the morning of August 27th, when transiting Mars (action) challenged his Midheaven (public status).  Sure enough, late on Friday when many were focused on the impending Hurricane Harvey, P45 “pardoned” Joe Arpaio, former sheriff of Maricopa County (AZ). Here is the must-read article on Mr. Arpaio, if you’re not quite sure what heinous things he has done.

We don’t have an exact birth time, but here is what we know of Mr. Arpaio’s horoscope.  OMG, he shares a birthday with P45 — June 14th. Gemini Sun — Libra or Scorpio Moon, likely squared by patriarchal Saturn. That can be lean…and downright mean. Macho Mars at 24 Taurus — conjunct wounded healer Chiron and the wretched Fixed Star Algol; retrograde Venus is conjunct Pluto; Neptune and Mars are running wild. Translation: we see the potential for a man on a misguided mission;  prone to over-the-top emotions in matters of homeland/family, inflicting aforementioned meaness on others as a twisted retaliation for the misery he likely experienced in his early home life. It will be interesting to see what squeeze he may be feeling in October/November, when transiting Saturn opposes his Gemini Sun for the third time this year.

Over the weekend, P45 also reversed an Obama-era rule that prevented local police departments from getting their hands on military equipment. Because what local police department would be complete without its very own grenade launcher? Earlier this month he rolled back Obama-era flood standards for taxpayer-financed infrastructure projects. Will that one be REconsidered, as one might hope with a bright idea that launches during a Mercury retrograde? Meanwhile, macho militant Mars hits P45’s regal Leo Ascendant on September 5th. Actions are sure to make news. Stay tuned….

…and ending on a fun note. Lost objects have an odd way of turning up when Mercury is retrograde. In Canada, a woman was delighted to find her engagement ring when it was pulled out of her garden….wrapped around a carrot!

How’s your Mercury retrograde REorganizing, REpairing, REtreating, REconnecting going? Yesterday I ordered a file cabinet and took my broken vacuum cleaner to the repair shop.

Housekeeping note: if you ordered and paid for a personalized report about last week’s solar eclipse, it was prepared and emailed to you. If you have not received it, please let me know (to Avid Reader Mary — thanks for emailing me to say you did not receive the report. Please check your spam folder — it was sent on the 19th).

Thank you for reading this forecast. Contributions to my Cosmic Tip Jar are always welcome. If you curious to know how all this talk of planetary patterns mean for you personally, here’s the 411 on consultations. We will have an excellent discussion together.

Friday 8/25/2017 & the Weekend; Saturn Turns Direct; Unconventional Women & Others

TGIF in the Big Apple!

The Moon in Libra drives the day with a need for fairness, balance and harmony. It is aided and abetted by an enthusiastic meet-up with Jupiter at 11:31 AM ET, followed by cooperative alignments with Saturn (structure, advance) and Mars (action, assertion) at 12:08 PM and 4:05 PM ET. So far, so good.

As we get closer to midnight, we may see a disruption in the headlines, as the peace-seeking Libra Moon is jarred by rebel Uranus at 1:39 AM ET on SATURDAY. It then goes void  for a few hours, plunging into the emotional depths of Scorpio at 4:53 AM ET. No more airy-fairy Libra theories; a Scorpio Moon demands substance in its quest for mastery and control.

This drive continues with focus until MONDAY at 5:38 AM ET. The drive then becomes potentially unfocused and provocative, after going void on a cranky clash with Mars. This Moon void lasts until 3:48 PM ET. Feel free to sleep in without consequence and roll with the twists and flakes that interfere with your efforts to move forward in a straight line. Crises that crop up during voids often end up being much ado about nothing. Remember that Mercury is still retrograde, so check and double check before hitting “send.”

Meanwhile, Friday’s big pattern is Saturn — planet of ambition and control — finally turning direct as of 8:09 AM ET. What initiatives can we expect to see moving forward in the headlines? Let’s review:

Saturn refers to control, discipline and structure. Sagittarius refers to collective belief systems, including: the law, religion, philosophy and academia. Hmm…how about mind control? Or tests of faith?  It also refers to publishing and other mass communication media, as well as sports and entertainment. Expect efforts involving restrictions and/or restructuring. Sagittarius refers to that which is foreign, so issues of border control will likely become hotter. It refers to travel.  So we can expect headlines involving controls in these areas, too.

Righteousness is another Sagittarius buzzword, as is blunt honesty. As its best, the Saturnine restructuring of Sagittarius concerns will stem from righteousness, much as the restructuring of the institution of marriage (Libra) to include same-sex couples evolved when Saturn was in Libra. Fairness is a big Libra buzzword. Got that?

For those born around 21 days into Gemini, Virgo, Pisces and Sagittarius, this summer has likely been a bit of a squeeze.  Why? Because Saturn is turning direct at 21 degrees of Sagittarius. If you have a planet or key point at that degree, you are also likely feeling the squeeze of Saturn. You may need to cut your losses and focus on what’s really important. Your focused efforts may result in a streamlined, authoritative advance. If loss is what you are feeling, ask for support.  You are worth it.

Fun fact: the indented copy above was posted on August 9, 2016. The full post included predictions I made about Senator Susan Collins breaking away from the pack in 2017 . I’m pleased to say they have come to pass. Astrology is amazing.

Also of note this weekend: at 12:30AM ET on SATURDAY, Venus leaves Cancer for drama queen Leo. Playful, regal and loving — that’s the fun upside until Venus gets all persnickety in Virgo on September 19th. Enjoy the love until then, Leo kings and queens! Potential downside: off with your head — as howls of indignation make the headlines.

At 4:43 PM ET on SATURDAY, the Sun and Mercury meet up in Virgo, going off on an idealistic tangent about a new world order. On SUNDAY at 8:16 AM ET, the eagerly anticipated cooperative alignment (a sextile) between Jupiter and Saturn finally finally occurs. I expect to see more reaching across the aisle between opposing sides.

And now, the news.

Guess who has the Sun at 21 Sagittarius and has thus been feeling the squeeze from transiting Saturn all summer? Taylor Swift, that’s who. Here is her horoscope — birth time unconfirmed. How interesting that she’s making news TODAY about the release of her latest single, “Look What You Made Me Do.” It’s heavy — a sneak peek at Reputation, the new album due out in November — and not everyone likes it. Ms. Swift made news earlier this month when a jury agreed with her claim that a DJ groped her during a photo op. She testified in court on August 10th, hours after the first exact hit of Saturn to her Sun. “Taylor Swift Was a Boss in Court,” said USA Today. Ms. Swift will have a third and final Saturn-Sun conjunction on September 10th.

Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton is experiencing a Saturn transit to her adaptable 22 Pisces Moon. Using a birth time of 8:02 AM, we note that the Saturn  and the Moon refer to how she needs to think/communicate (3rd House) as well as publishing (9th House). Translation: ambition, gravitas and/or cuts in those matters. With Mars squaring her Scorpio Ascendant, suggesting a need for action, should we be surprised that she’s making headlines this week with her own sneak peek? Her new book is called What Happened — and one thing that happened was that she was stalked by “a creep” last fall. The book will be released next month, when Mars will be conjunct her Midheaven (career and status). We would expect an intiative in matters of creativity and ego recognition.

And of course, there’s P45 — whose Sun and Moon are under the influence of Saturn’s gravitas — along with Monday’s eclipse. He’s split with Steve Bannon and is fighting with Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan.   Alec Baldwin gave another mocking portrayal on SNL. But do not believe for a minute that his Cabinet is not getting things done. Here’s what’s going on at the EPA. Here’s the latest from HUD.

Meanwhile…

Yesterday’s square between Uranus in Aries (revolution, innovation, technogeeks) and Venus in Cancer (nourishment, women, values, money) was reflected in the following headlines — including, but not limited to:

UPDATE: Back in June, it was predicted that newly-elected French president Emmanuel Macron would undergo a bit of streamlining as transiting Saturn met up with his — wait for it — Venus (aesthetics; values) at 21 Sagittarius. Today’s revelation is that President Macron has spent “$30,000 on makeup services in three months. ”   That’s $330/day — which, as a day rate for a freelance make-up person, really does not seem so outrageous. Not only that, but Macron’s predecessors spent roughly the same amount. What makes Macron’s expenditures so objectionable? Timing! Streamlining Saturn is also being reflected in Macron’s experience as a 36% approval rating. Ouch.

I wonder what the French would think of Louise Linton, the Scottish-born actress and newly-wedded wife of Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. She lit up social media with a blathersome tirade against a West Coast mom who was not amused by the hashtagged haute couture Ms. Linton made sure everyone knew she was wearing on a taxpayer-paid jaunt to the Path of Totality on Monday. Really, why else would she go to Louisville on a day trip with her husband if it weren’t for the solar eclipse?

Ms. Linton has since apologized for her “highly insensitive” Instagram post. Right. PSA of the DAY: When Mercury is retrograde, silence is golden.

It is interesting to note that Mr. and Mrs. Mnuchin share a birthday — Dec 21 — albeit eighteen years apart. That puts their Suns at the Aries Point at the very end Sagittarius (likely), so you can appreciate why this couple can’t help but attract attention. Their respective Suns are about to be squeezed by transiting Saturn in mid-December. Stay tuned…

…and please stay safe if you’re in Texas.

Thank you for reading this forecast.

Sunday 8/20/2017: Sneak Peek at an Eclipsed Week; the Big Fat Revelation

Dashing off a note before I hit the road, departing Atlanta for points NW in North Carolina, a.k.a. the Path of Totality of tomorrow’s Big Fat New Moon/Solar Eclipse. The Moon is in Leo, seeking ways to shine and help others shine, too. It is at the end of the lunar cycle and thus very, very dead.

In this balsamic phase, we may feel a sense of listlessness or restlessness, anticipating that something new is just ahead, but we don’t know what. In this particular dead Moon — given that it is in Leo — we have a heightened sense of drama and play — all adding to the anticipation of tomorrow’s Big Fat Celestial Event.

Mercury is still retrograde of course, and thus you might be having experiences like this: you assume your gracious host knows how to get to the rental car office, but she takes a wrong turn. She corrects her course, but the rental car office is closed. That’s OK, because it’s not the rental car office you’re supposed to be at anyway…and after a series of twists and turns, you end up at the correct rental car office, and your gracious host tells you that if she had just followed that “wrong turn,” you would have arrived at the correct location. Meanwhile, the rental car office doesn’t have the car you reserved, and so there will be a delay….

The New Moon/Eclipse happens at 2:30 PM ET on MONDAY, after which it immediately goes void until 4:25 PM ET. Next stop for the Moon: Virgo, where it will go about putting everything back in order after the festive mania of the holiday weekend (I’m counting Eclipse Day as an unofficial holiday). Highlights of this week include:

  • a tech and astrology (!!!!)-friendly harmony between Uranus (ruler of astrology) and the Leo Sun. Is that why so many astrologers are being asked for insights about this eclipse? Newsweek, Time, Buzzfeed — even the Summit Daily in Summit County, Colorado — so cool, right?
  • The Sun leaves Leo for Virgo on TUESDAY at 6:21 PM ET. Less play, more perfecting and (re)organizing for the rest of the month and into September;
  • Venus (women, what we love, money, art, social expression) clashes with rebel Uranus on THURSDAY at 3PM ET, likely to be reflected in sudden splits and unconventional attractions making headlines;
  • Saturn — planet of control, ambition and patriarchal control — turns direct at 8:09AM ET on FRIDAY. What a isolating squeeze this month has been for people with planets and angles around 21 degrees of Sagittarius. Exhibit A: P45, who can’t be abandoned fast enough. Corporate advisors, arts advisors — even one evangelical advisor — walked away last week. Makes you wonder what the rest of that spiritual advisory board is waiting for…

Here is the New Moon/Eclipse chart set for Washington D.C.:

It’s been discussed on more than one occasion in this forecast that this eclipse falls on P45’s Ascendant and his Mars. In ancient times, the horoscope of the head of state was used to anticipate the future of that state/country/kingdom. So yes, this Great American Eclipse — with its Path of Totality that will fall coast-to-coast in the U.S. (first time in 99 years) and only in the U.S. (first time since before the U.S. was “born”) feels like it must have special significance. And if you happen to have planets or an angle within a degree or so of 28 Leo, this eclipse is likely to have special significance for you, too. That would include  off the top of my head — Vladimir Putin, North Korea, Roman Polanski and Bill Clinton.

Here’s another takeaway — without the feeling of foreboding of Something About to Happen — and this applies to everyone. Over the past few weeks I have been contemplating the miracle of eclipses. Really, the miracle. Do you know why we have eclipses? That’s a mechanical question, not a rhetorical one. We have eclipses on Earth because from our point of view, the size of the Sun and the size of the Moon are the same. Even though the Sun is massive and far, far, away — when compared to the humble Moon — the two are equal!

From this realization I began thinking about the symbolism of the Sun: masculine, day forces, conscious will, etc. — and the symbolism of the Moon: feminine, night forces, reflective, etc. Shouldn’t all that these two celestial bodies symbolize carry equal weight here on this earthly plane? Well?

Astrologers are fond of saying: “as above, so below.

The New Moon chart pictured above shows the Sun and the Moon as equals. That’s my Big Fat Eclipse Meditation for you to contemplate — it applies to you, no matter where this particular eclipse falls in your horoscope. Everyone knows their Sun Sign. Where is your Moon? The needs it symbolizes in your life are just as important as your Sun!

This would be a fine point of discussion with your local astrologer — and I would be delighted to be of service. Here’s the 411 on consultations. Yes, I am still offering a report on how the eclipse is likely to be experienced in your own personal world — check the bottom of the previous forecast for details. If you’ve ordered a report from me recently, gratitude for your patience. The response has been overwhelming and delightful!

The news will be back in the next forecast, when I have access to internet service. Going off the grid now for a day…

Thank you for reading this forecast.

Wednesday-Friday 8/16-18/2017: Venus in the Hot Seat; the Wiggy Uranus-Neptune Semi-Square

Greetings from New York!

While I was away, the squirrels built a nest in the elm tree outside my window. It’s just a few feet above eye level, providing endless entertainment for the cat. I wonder how the crows will respond to their new neighbors when they return to the tree this winter.  Can’t they all just get along? Meanwhile, I savor these simple joys. I hope you find some to savor, too.

That chatty piece of news was brought to you by the Moon in info-junkie Gemini, seeking to keep you entertained and informed. As I type, the Moon is about to connect with bewildering Neptune, leaving me to wonder what new strain of batshit craziness will be making headlines around 8:35 AM ET, especially given Mercury in retrograde. After the delusional dust settles, the afternoon is energized by the Moon’s harmony with action hero Mars and expansive Jupiter, exact at 3:29 PM ET. Much can be accomplished (within Mercury retrograde parameters). Be advised that the Moon’s engaging drive may be blocked as we move into the evening, when Saturn in Sagittarius (media, opinion) opposes the Moon at 9:40 PM ET. Who’s trying to control whom?

On THURSDAY, you can get away with sleeping in or flaking out, as the Gemini Moon will be void between 9:38 AM and 12:13 PM ET. After that, the Moon shifts gears into Cancer, the sign it rules. A Cancer Moon supports a focus on emotional and home(land) security; feeding and nurturing the soul; apple pie, Mom and amber waves of grain.  Thursday afternoon has an easy flow of input from other planets. This flow continues until FRIDAY at  4:45 PM ET, when the Moon is opposed by ruthless Pluto. I expect a power play in the headlines late Friday night — one that pushes boundaries, given that the Moon will square (challenge) expansive Jupiter at 8:52 PM ET.  Further upsets to the status quo are likely to hit the wires around 11:17 AM ET on SATURDAY, as the Moon is squared by rebel Uranus.

Meanwhile, along with Mercury retrograde and the revealing fallout from last week’s Full Moon eclipse, Venus is the star player in the cosmos this week. Yesterday, the only exact pattern of the day was a face-off between Venus in sensitive, nurturing Cancer and Pluto in ruthless, Powers That Be Capricorn, exact at 7:13 AM ET.  Early THURSDAY AM (or Wednesday eve, depending on your time zone), Venus will square Jupiter at 2:40 AM ET.  Here’s a blurb about Venus-Pluto patterns from a post in 2014:

Reflecting this week’s volatile connection among Venus (money, women, social expression, art) with ruthlessly empowering Pluto on Monday and rebel Uranus on Friday, I offer the following items. In Virginia, former governor Bob McDonnell and his wife are on trial “for conspiring to use his office for personal enrichment”. Their defense strategy: their marriage was so broken, they could not have conspired their way out of a paper bag. Holy dirty laundry, Batman — and you’ll hear every sordid detail if you follow this trial. Hard Venus-Pluto contacts suggest emotional overkill. In this category, may I suggest this amusing report in response to the recently-released trailer for the infamously tawdry 50 Shades of Grey. And while we’re on the subject of passion in the arts, here are some artistic crimes of passion, courtesy of the Washington Post.

Venus-Pluto contacts also suggest purging and catharsis, and isn’t it interesting to see this article about how to energetically cut ties with unhealthy relationships, which the protagonist in 50 Shades of Grey obviously never read. The visualization technique is especially apt for clearing emotional/spiritual attachments to people from whom you have already physically separated.

Venus will challenge Uranus on August 24th. Its disruptive, freedom-seeking drive is part of the New Moon/solar eclipse we’ll have on August 21st. Prominent break-ups in the news? I wouldn’t be surprised.  Venus-Jupiter aspects suggest abundance or wretched excess…are we seeing any of that in the news yesterday and today? Hmmm…

And now, the news.

Let us remember that the Moon was in double-talking Gemini yesterday, a sign which can’t help but see two sides in any given situation, even if the sides happen to be Right and Wrong. P45 is a Gemini, and his aptitude for double talk and delusion is amplified by a tense aspect between Mercury (how he needs to think) and Neptune (lies all lies). Given the emotional overkill of Tuesday’s Venus-Pluto opposition and Mercury being retrograde (motto: silence is golden; think twice before you hit SEND), of course it makes sense that right after that Venus-Pluto opposition, he would tweet a cartoon of a “Trump train” smashing into journalist labelled “CNN” — and then delete it minutes later. And we can see why, in his stinkbomb of a press conference that afternoon, he would blame “violence on both sides” (re: the weekend’s white supremacist rally in Charlottesville), as jaws around the country fell to the floor. And we can see, under the Venus-Jupiter square, the wretched excess of his follow-up statement that many attending the white supremacist rally were “very fine people.” I wonder what that means, “very fine people.” Does it mean that they have families and pets that they love? That they pay taxes?  That they voted for him? What makes people “very fine,” in the World According To P45?

Meanwhile, Adolf Hitler’s horoscope is functioning as predicted here last December.    It is interesting to note that Hitler’s Venus-Mars conjunction at 16 Taurus is square to controlling, authoritarian Saturn (reflected in his militant values and actions). This conjunction was hit by last week’s Full Moon eclipse at 15 Leo/Aquarius and was triggered by transiting Mars at 15-16 Leo at the time of the Charlottesville rally.  We would expect action taken in matters expressing Hitler’s values and action. Ya think? On the upside,  his values and actions sparked a response on Twitter that set a new record for most-liked tweet ever (no, it’s not one of P45’s).

Where’s Thich Nhat Hanh and his teachings on compassionate listening when we need him?

Enough about politics.

There is another pattern humming in background that I’ve been meaning to discuss, as it has been reflected in a number of headlines involving drugs, music and technology. Back in 1993, Uranus (technology, avant garde, disruption, rebels, astrology, uranium, aviation) and Neptune (drugs, dissolving of boundaries, water, oil, oceans, lies, dreams, fantasy, music, spirits of all kinds) met up in Capricorn (the Establishment, the color black). Here’s what that looked like:

Kooky spooky ooky. Very Goth. But totally connected, right?  In the way technology (Uranus) has dissolved boundaries (Neptune), enabling us to all be connected. In the early 90s — and especially 1993, when three Uranus-Neptune conjunctions were exact — at 18 and 19 degrees of Capricorn — seeds were planted that would dissolve boundaries in corporations and government, using the wonders of modern technology.  So now we have things like “virtual offices” and friends we meet on Facebook (scattered around the world).  The hallowed rungs of the corporate ladder aren’t where they used to be, making it challenging for workers to climb, so why bother? Elected representatives communicate directly with constituents by email and tweet. Kinda weird  and chaotic,  but it is what it is.

I remember saying — back in the 90s — that whoever could figure out how to capitalize on the sentiment “we are all connected” would make millions.

Anyhoo…

The cycle of the Sun and the Moon (New Moon, First Quarter, Full, Third Quarter) is 28 days. Between Uranus and Neptune, it’s 171 years. And on August 11th, we hit the first of five markers in this cycle. Uranus and Neptune are now 45 degrees apart.  That’s half of a square (a right angle), which is 90 degrees. I am talking  basic geometry here — this is not brain surgery — just remember what you learned in school about triangles and squares.

In astrology, a 45 degree relationship between planets is called a semi-square. It’s not as heavy as a conjunction (0 degrees) or a square (90 degrees) or an opposition (180 degrees). Still, a semi-square is tense. Thus, it sparks challenges and action.  The five semi-squares between Uranus and Neptune will happen on (courtesy of cafeastrology):

  • 1st: August 11, 2017, when Uranus is at 28° Aries 30′ and Neptune is at 13° Pisces 30′.
  • 2nd: October 7th, 2018, with Uranus at 27° Aries 01′ and Neptune at 12° Pisces 01′.
  • 3rd: June 16th, 2018, when Uranus is at 1° Taurus 30′
  • 4th: December 15th, 2018, when Uranus is at 28° Aries 49′
  • 5th: May 1st, 2019, when Uranus is at 3° Taurus 01′ (last)

What can we expect in the headlines? Disruption and innovation (Uranus) in Neptune concerns. Vision/fog/dissolving of boundaries (Neptune) in Uranus concerns. Uranus-Neptune patterns are often experienced as weird and/or unsettling. Example: what if technology doesn’t set us free? What if makes us feel lost?  Heads up if you’re a cashier.  Here’s a story from today’s WaPo about why blue-collar workers are quitting their jobs.  Other disruptive headlines include:

Awww…here’s one that just posted. The Broadway adaptation of Groundhog Day will close on September 17th, despite rave reviews.  Well, that’s a surprise. The movie premiered in 1993 — on the Uranus-Neptune conjunction. It stars Bill Murray as the quintessential cranky old Capricorn goat/TV weatherman whose life takes a surreal turn in Punxsatawny, Pennsylvania. It all ends on a happy note with true love and humanitarian connections destined to live happily after — a fun spin on the potential of a Uranus-Neptune conjunction in Capricorn if ever there was one. Highly recommended!

Sunday & Monday 8/12-13/2017: Mercury is Retrograde; the U.S. Reality Check

As you may have heard, Mercury turned retrograde Saturday at 9:01 PM ET. It stationed (i.e. ground to a halt and changd direction) at 11 degrees of Virgo. It will travel backwards through Virgo, a sign it rules, until September 5th. on August 31st, Mercury will re-enter regal “Because I said so” Leo. It will appear to grind to a halt and move forward at 28 degrees of Leo, which happens to be the same degree (i.e., place in the sky) of the August 21st total solar eclipse. So we can expect some extraordinary information/communication to come out around September 5th — amid no small amount of confusion.

Here’s a general survival guide:

Even if you know nothing else about astrology, you may have heard the term “Mercury retrograde” before. Often it’s accompanied by curses and groans, and that’s a shame. Yes, all of the flights on American Airlines might be grounded because of a computer glitch. Or the entire country of Finland might be offline because there’s a transportation strike. Or some trickster might set off all the tornado warning alarms in Dallas — that actually happened during the last Mercury retrograde in April. Or two state police pilots might perish in a helicopter crash whose cause has yet to be determined (serious astrology buffs will note Pluto, Jupiter and Saturn on the angles of the chart for 4:54PM ET in Charlottesville, VA, the time police were notified of the crash).

Still,  there’s much good that can be accomplished when the Messenger Planet appears to be retracing its steps.

Mercury—which in the language of astrology refers to mindset, travel and communication—will appear to move backward through the sky until Sept 5th. It’s not really moving backward, but that is how it looks from our perspective here on Spaceship Earth. Mercury goes retrograde 3-4 times each year, for a period of 22 days.

Contrary to popular belief, Mercury retrogrades are no reason to freak out. Mercury retrograde gets a bad rap because we are geared, in this crazy modern age, to always be thinking, doing, moving FORWARD. You know what that gets you? BURN OUT. We need our down times, and Mercury retrograde is a perfect time to give our minds a rest. Why else would your computer, phone and/or car choose THIS time to malfunction? Because you are supposed to be slowing down. And as you slow down, it is vitally important that you FOCUS.

When Mercury is retrograde, be prepared for travel delays, scheduling screw-ups, mechanical breakdowns, computer crashes, having to repeat what you’ve just said, misunderstandings, the past coming back for a second look, surprise reunions and having to repeat what you just said. Use your FOCUS and double check important details, like whether the restaurant you’ve chosen for a meet-up is still in business. Or whether it is booked for a commercial shoot or a private party — all of which has happened to me during Mercury retrogrades.

If you are looking for a job, Mercury retrogrades are a perfect time to reach out to people from your past. Mine your address book and trust that your contacts will be happy to hear from you. However, do not be frustrated if your target is away on vacation or keeps rescheduling meetings. Also, triple check your emails and resumes before you hit “send,” as there is a higher probability of typos and other sloppy snafus.

In your business, you’ll need to make sure all communications have been received and are clearly understood. Be mindful of the higher potential for communications equipment to go on the fritz. MAKE SURE YOUR FILES ARE BACKED UP. Also be aware of a higher than average probability for delays in shipping and travel arrangements. For this you will need an extra dose of patience.

You may also find it profitable to REview a project from the past. Maybe you shelved it then, but now is the time to REconsider. However, be advised that a spontaneous, “out-of-the-blue” idea for advancement may not be so sound when Mercury turns direct. This is why the conventional wisdom advises against finalizing and/or signing contracts on deals during Mercury retrograde. An exception might be supported if you are REnegotiating or RElocating. If you absolutely must close a deal, triple check everything. The key is not to RUSH.

This is a good time to schedule a corporate REtreat. Any activity that affords the opportunity to REview past performance is encouraged. REsearch on a new strategy is also favored.

Mercury retrogrades are not favored for launching a new website or a new communications systems. There is a higher than average probability of technical glitches and confusion. REvisions, however, are A-OK.

In general, adopt a playful attitude of flexibility to whatever twists you encounter. Avoid making major purchases (especially electronic ones). Don’t believe everything you hear or read in the papers. Rumors have a higher probability of spreading during Mercury retrogrades. Avoid losing patience — that’s a big one.

When in doubt, be silent!

Do plan on RElaxing, REviewing, REsearching, REorganizing, REgenerating, REconnecting and REcreating….and REviewing your life with your astrologer.

Here is the chart for this Mercury retrograde, set for Washington D.C.

Mercury Rx Aug 12 2017

Let the record show that the first time I ran this chart, I used the wrong time. The second time I ran the chart, I saved it in the wrong format. The third time was just right. Damn you, Mercury retrograde!

What jumps out immediately in this D.C. chart is Neptune, planet of fog, deception and meltdowns, right on the Ascendant of this horoscope. Not only that, it is opposing Mercury — just look along the East-West axis of this chart and you’ll see it. Do you think we can expect clearly thought out communication from our nation’s capitol during this retrograde? Ermmm…..no. The Moon is in me-me-me Aries, in the 1st House, about to meet up with rebel Uranus. This suggests a need for disruptive change, executed in an entrepreneurial, “wild card” manner.  Also notable in the chart is Saturn, planet of patriarchy, authority, ambition and control. It is retrograde — suggesting a rethink in Saturn-ruled concerns — sitting right on the Midheaven of the chart. This is the top of the chart — an area referring to leadership and public status. Saturn will turn direct on August 25th at 21 degrees of Sagittarius, putting a squeeze on the horoscopes of P45 and a slew of other entities (people and countries) prominent in the headlines since last December.

Meanwhile…

This morning at 4:01 AM ET the me-me-me Aries Moon met up with rebel Uranus and went void for a few hours. At 6:40 AM ET, the Moon enters Taurus, seeking to fulfill its need for material comfort and security; to make a tangible form out of Aries drive. Consolidation of authority and form are also suggested by a trine (harmony) between the Leo Sun (leadership) and Saturn in Sagittarius (opinion; collective belief; all things foreign), exact at 5:02 PM ET.

No sleeping in on MONDAY, as the Taurus Moon’s need for security and form is driven throughout the day by contacts with six other planets. The most provocative hits happen at 10:30 AM ET, when the Moon is challenged by Mars in “get away with murder” Leo; the second provocation happens around 9:15 PM ET, the time of the Third Quarter Moon. Whatever your “fit  of apoplexy” agenda was around the New Moon on July 23rd, you may now release whatever didn’t quite work out. In the week ahead, contemplate the seeds you want to plant on the next New Moon on August 21st.

And now, the news.

As predicted, Saturday’s headlines were volatile and driven by rose-colored ideals. Hundreds of white men from around the country carrying citronella-scented tiki torches descended upon Charlottesville, VA, with the trumped-up purpose of protesting the removal of a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee from a public park.  Nineteen peaceful counter-protesters were injured and one woman was killed when a 20 year-old white supremacist from Ohio allegedly and  deliberately ran them over.

As expected, P45 had little to say or do that was of any use (this is from the Washington Times), while former KKK leader David Duke took credit on behalf of “White Americans” for putting P45 in the White House. Duke stated that white supremacists would “fulfill Trump’s promise and take this country back.” Back where?  To pre-1600, perhaps? Here’s what that looked like:

Yes, there is an astrological point to this.

Elsewhere, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe was applauded for telling the white supremacists to “go home and never come back,” saying that they were “anything but patriots.” And then he continued, “you want to talk about about patriots; talk about Thomas Jefferson and George Washington, who brought our nation together…” And this is the astrological point: the Mars-Neptune square in the U.S. horoscope, suggesting a romanticizing (Neptune) of war and guns (Mars); a charismatic but perhaps unrealistic vision. Right now transiting Saturn is putting pressure on that Mars-Neptune square, demanding a reality check and activating a potentially dangerously unaware pattern. Jefferson and Washington were slave-owners; their “all men are created equal” Declaration of Independence didn’t apply to slaves, women, non-property owners and of course, the Native American people who were there first (that’s why they’re called “Native”).

How do we reconcile our American Dream of equality – driven by the need of the U.S. Moon in the humanitarian sign of Aquarius and the enlightened ambition of Saturn in fair and balanced Libra —  when the country was founded by men whose own personal worlds would suggest a screamingly obvious hypocrisy? I don’t have an answer, but this is the task at hand, suggested by planetary patterns.

I’ve been traveling in New Mexico now — driving through plenty of Native American reservations, so this discrepancy between the vision of our Founding Fathers and its apparent hypocrisy has been much on my mind. Next week I will be in North Carolina — near Cherokee, where I may find more food for thought.

That’s it for now; I am being pulled away from my computer by my gracious hosts in Santa Fe — off on another traveling adventure — please forgive any typos, as I won’t be able to proofread — living dangerously in a Mercury retrograde, but there you have it…

Thank you for reading this forecast.

Thursday-Friday 8/10-11/2017; Apoplexy in the News; Mind the Void; Rumor Has It

Greetings from Santa Fe…

…where the sensitive, intuitive and impressionable Pisces Moon went void at 9:38 AM ET. Go with the idealistic flow all through the day. Stick to routine concerns. Avoid impulse purchases. Remember that crises which crop up during Moon voids are often much ado about nothing. Chill — and consider indulging in a nice pedicure, as Pisces rules the feet.

Any indulgence in beauty and aesthetics would support the the idealism and optimism suggested by patterns today and early Saturday morning: Mercury and Sun in cooperative alliances with Venus and Jupiter, respectively (today);  Venus in nurturing Cancer in harmony with dreamy Neptune (Saturday).

At 1:22 AM ET on FRIDAY, Moon charges into me-me-me Aries, likely looking to get something started. Which, given that Mercury will turn retrograde on SUNDAY at 9:01 PM ET, should be something that is a REview or REorganization or REconnection project — not something brand spanking new. Start a vacation, maybe — a REtreat is also an apt action — and perhaps the heads of state in the U.S. and North Korea will take that under advisement. One can always hope.

In preparation for the Mercury retrograde, BACK UP YOUR COMPUTERS NOW.

And now, the news.

Remember the Sabian Symbol for the current New Moon cycle that began on July 23rd? It was “a fit of apoplexy.” Remember how there was a dominance of  planets in Fire Signs in that New Moon horoscope, suggesting four weeks of heated improvisation (because Fire doesn’t take the time to plan a strategy; it goes wherever the wind blows)? See any of that in recent headlines?

And now, the news.

Yesterday P45 improvised another threat aimed at North Korea,  “They will be met with fire and fury and frankly power, the likes of which this world has never seen before.” Regular readers of this forecast should not be surprised by the escalated rhetoric at this time. As mentioned before, P45 has a Mars line running through Washington and North Korea. What does that mean? Places on a Mars line in the horoscope are likely areas of militant conflict for heads of state,  and we’ve seen that theory tested in the horoscopes of other U.S. presidents. Get a copy of The Psychology of Astrocartography  by Jim Lewis and Kenneth Irving and you’ll find multiple examples.  For comic relief (comedy being a necesseary coping strategy for anxiety and  suffering), here’s master improvisor Stephen Colbert grading P45’s effort.

North Korea is angry about new sanctions recently imposed by the UN; thus, it has threatened retaliation against the United States because we’re so exceptional. In the horoscope of North Korea (courtesy of Jamie Partridge), we see Saturn (control, authority) at 28 Leo, which sits right on top of the Leo Ascendant of the U.S. Tweeter-in-Chief. This suggests the P45 (and the U.S., by extension), is likely to experience North Korea as a major block or wet blanket on his fiery regal image. Reading Partridge’s most excellent write-up of the North Korea horoscope, this bit about Venus jumped out:

Venus generally rules peace and diplomacy, but in mundane astrology signifies war in hard aspect. In ancient Mesopotamia, she was the Goddess of Love and Procreation when the evening star, and the Goddess of War when the morning star. In the North Korea horoscope she is Goddess of War, visible before sunrise. The furthest she can ever be in front of the Sun is 48 degrees, so at 46 degrees ahead of the Sun in this chart, she is a very fired up Goddess Ishtar. “her morning appearance woke them up to go to war” [Deborah Houlding].

So an angry Venus woke the North Koreans up at half past two in the morning to go to war. The square from Mars, ruler of the military and war, turns her anger into blind fury. The lunar eclipse before the declaration of independence was at 03°17′ Scorpio, less than half a degree from the North Korean Mars. This increases the aggressive and reactionary nature of the country.

North Korea’s Venus is 0 degrees Leo. Where was the New Moon on July 23rd? 0 Leo! No wonder North Korea responded by announcing plans to strike Guam.  Where will the next New Moon — also the Great American Eclipse — occur? On August 21st, at 28 Leo, right on North Korea’s 28 Leo  Saturn…and, as noted in previous posts, on P45’s 26 Leo Mars and 29 Leo Ascendant. Do you have any planets at 0 Leo and/or 28 Leo? Would you like to know how the Aug 21st total solar eclipse may impact your own personal world? I am offering a special mini-reading to answer just that question for  $44.88. Send me your date, place and time of birth and I will email you a brief write-up.

Meanwhile, it was revealed that on July 26th,  the FBI conducted a pre-dawn raid on the home of Paul Manafort, looking for “tax documents and foreign banking records.”  Glancing at the horoscope of Robert Mueller — time unknown — we see that his Venus at 26 Leo will be hit by the August 21st solar eclipse. This suggests an increase or decrease of effectiveness in relationship and/or financial concerns, so we’ll be watching the headlines carefully the first week of September. Without a birth time, we are limited to what we can anticipate. Mr. Mueller is a Leo with Moon in late Pisces or early Aries. His 14 degree Leo Sun was hit by this week’s Full Moon eclipse at 15 Leo/Aquarius. What else will be released in the aftermath?

In other news…. from Across the Pond. A source says that  Queen Elizabeth plans to bypass Prince Charles. Prince William will become England’s next king, in a story that has NOT — let the record show — been picked up by mainstream papers. Thus we are inclined to chuck it in the rubbish bin labelled “Mercury Retrograde Rumors That Turn Out To Be Much Ado About Nothing On An All-Day Moon Void.”

But just as an exercise — and as a relief from writing about the mainstream media’s deplorable Usual Suspects —  what do the horoscopes suggest? Last year we noted that the Queen’s horoscope would experience three hits of Uranus squaring her Capricorn Ascendant, suggesting potential break-ups, separations and a need for a fresh start in matters of self-worth and values. Those hits started in 2016 and continued into early 2017.  Brexit fit that potential perfectly.

Meanwhile, according to today’s tabloid story, a palace insider said:

“Her Majesty realized that William and Kate are the future. She has spent 65 years making sure that the House of Windsor survives, and she sees William and Kate as having the energy and star quality to do the job in a modern world. Queen Elizabeth will always do what is best for the long-term health of the monarchy,”

When might this rumored transition of power happen? It’s interesting to note that transiting Uranus will conjunct the Queen’s Taurus Sun three times, starting in 2018.  This suggests a need for freedom and independent expression, unconventional though it may be. We also see transiting Pluto conjunct Her Majesty’s Ascendant, starting in January of 2019, continuing through that year.  This suggests a dramatic change of perspective in personal identity. We see another measurement between her Midheaven and Saturn exact in December 2018, suggesting a change in professional status and/or significant family development. Clearly the horoscope is ripe for continued change.

In Prince William’s horoscope, we see transiting Saturn conjunct his 27 Sagittarius Ascendant three times in 2017, suggesting a streamlining squeeze on his identity, enabling him to emerge at the end of it as “Prince William version 2.0”. Saturn will oppose his 0 degree Cancer Sun and 4 degree Cancer Moon, starting in January of 2018. More gravitas for sure.  In 2018, transiting Uranus will oppose  his 2 degree Scorpio Midheaven, suggesting a disruption in the family and in his professional status. That opposition occurs twice next summer: on July 23rd and August 28th, accompanied by another measurement between the Sun and Venus. Sun-Venus measurements suggest a focus on love, popularity, creativity and/or birth.

UPDATE: It was announced on September 4th that the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William are expecting their third child. Huzzah!

What’s going on in Prince Charles’ horoscope? In 2018 transiting Uranus will conjunct his material comfort and stability-seeking Taurus Moon three times, suggesting an intense disruption. In 2019, transiting Uranus squares his regal Leo Ascendant, suggesting a fresh start. Uranus rules the area of the Prince’s life regarding relationships and the public. It’s interesting to note that the Midheaven in Prince William’s horoscope is hit in 2018 — a year before the hits to the Queen and Prince Charles.

UPDATE: Soon after this forecast posted, Avid Reader Patricia wrote to set the record straight:

I love all the info about the Queen. Unfortunately she can’t give the crown straight to William bypassing Charles because in England titles and the crown go to the next in line. Nobody gets to choose who gets it next, it’s birth order. If it ever happened it would be because Charles died or has become mentally or physically impaired. Also the only way we would find out is the Prime Minister announcing it in Parliament. The laws in England are somewhat rigid when it comes to inheritance and after the whole what they term “nightmare” of the abdication of her uncle, who became the Duke of Windsor, the Royal family are somewhat skittish in this area.

Patricia is English and therefore someone who ought to Know About These Things. Thank you, Patricia for writing and helping me make a point about taking at face value a story that makes news during a Moon void and/or a Mercury Retrograde. Remember this when reading the headlines between now and September 5th!

Meanwhile, in the Land of Enchantment (New Mexico), it is ever so peaceful and quiet…so, so quiet. During the day in the middle of nowhere,  there is not a sound to be heard. It reminds me of the haunting opening of the movie Contact, as the camera pulls back from Earth through our solar system, finally surpassing the reach of audio transmission beaming out from this ‘big, blue marble.  Silence can be such a balm for the senses and the soul. I hope you will take time to tune in to this perspective as a necessary break from the tension of these”interesting times.”

Thank you for reading this forecast.

Monday 8/7/2017: Sneak Peek at the Week; Full Moon/Eclipse in Aquarius

Happy Monday!

The work week begins under a Full Moon in Aquarius, exact at 2:11 PM ET. This Full Moon is also a partial eclipse, and if you have a planet or point close to 15 degrees of Aquarius, Leo, Scorpio or Taurus, you are more personally affected by the potential of this celestial event to release what no longer serves. My cat has marked the occasion by hurling the contents of an upset stomach multiple times this morning, no doubt reacting to the challenging opposition between Mars (action; inflammation) and the Moon (emotions; stomach), exact at 6:41 AM ET (my sense is that she will be feeling much better this afternoon). How feisty was your morning?

Aspects to the humanitarian Aquarius Moon are relatively free and easy after the Full Moon, offering an opportunity for a smooth processing of whatever illumination materializes. Moon goes void on TUESDAY at 3:07 PM ET, entering Pisces at 5:56 PM ET. Optimism, idealism and a cooperative spirit needs to flow through Thursday, courtesy of two harmonious aspects. First is a sextile between a high-functioning Mercury in Virgo and Venus in Cancer at 5:03 AM ET. The second is a sextile between the Leo Sun and Jupiter in Libra. Data, analysis, food, women, law and leadership are keywords to look for in the headlines. What could rain on this parade? A challenging square between the Moon and Saturn at 9:38 AM ET suggests a potential block or ambitious authoritarian advance. Note that the Pisces Moon immediately goes void until 1:22 AM ET on FRIDAY.

Go with the flow of Thursday’s Moon void and roll with twists that may crop up in your efforts to move forward in a straight line. The dreamy, sensitive energy of the Pisces Moon  shifts noticeably when the Moon enters me-me-me Aries on Friday. With no aspects to the Moon from any other planet on Friday, the pioneering, impulsive drive of Aries may be rather subdued, especially under the influence of a trine (harmony) between Venus (women, arts, love, money) and Neptune (dreamy) on SATURDAY at 1:18 AM ET.  That doesn’t mean there’s not a lot of ambitious action in the works, given the trine (harmony) between the regal Leo Sun (leaders) and Saturn (authority, structure, control) in opinionated Sagittarius, exact SUNDAY at 5:06PM ET.

Perhaps we’ll get a hint of that ambitious action or consolidation of power on Saturday, when the Aries Moon connects with seven other planets over 27 hours, including Pluto and Uranus. Intense action that may involve power plays and other disruptions of the status quo are likely. With Mercury turning retrograde on Saturday at 9:01 PM ET, a review of whatever is announced that day will likely be in order. Have you backed up your computers yet? DO IT NOW. Meanwhile, here’s a link to a prior post about how to handle Mercury retrograde.

And now, the news.

UPDATE: P45 marked the third hit of a potentially rewarding and expansive Jupiter return (August 4th) by going on a rewarding and expansive 17-day vacation. True to form, it was soon announced that it was not really on vacation. Regardless, he will still be feeling the the restrictive energy of Saturn to his Sun and Moon for the rest of the month and beyond.

Saturn is also heavily active in the horoscope of Venezuela.  “Born” on July 5, 1811, its Cancer Sun — like the Cancer Sun of the U.S. — was supercharged by the never-ending Uranus-Pluto square starting in 2014. What was happening back then? Some nine months after the death of Hugo Chavez in March of 2013,   “a wave of anti-government protests.” Now, Venezuela is still in turmoil. Matters of authoritarian control and limited resources have been making news all year, and it is no surprise to note that Venezuela is having a Saturn return — i.e., a sense of urgency with respect to establishing a new paradigm, with old patterns thrown out in this new lease on life. Add Venezuela to all of the other countries and humans whose horoscopes have planets or points at 21 degrees Sagittarius.

In 2016, four other planets in Venezuela’s horoscope began feeling the squeeze transiting Saturn suggests, reflected in past and current headlines. Elsewhere in the horoscope,  Venezuela’s 25 degree Leo Midheaven (public status) will be hit by the August 21st eclipse. Then on August 25th, Saturn will turn direct at 21 Sagittarius,  just as transiting Mars 1) reaches the top of Venezuela’s Midheaven AND 2) squares (challenges) its Scorpio Mars and its Scorpio Ascendant. I would not be surprised to see an exceptionally strong assertion of control and/or clash within days of August 25th.

Meanwhile, in the horoscope of the United States, a reeallyyy slow-moving Saturn is putting pressure on the U.S. Mars (action, guns, anger) and Neptune (drugs, surreal). Is that why a California police officer stopped a woman for speeding and then pointed a gun at  her passenger for nine minutes (caught on tape)?

Finally, I’m sharing this CNN piece — not because of the headline (“Why You Say Yes, Even When You Don’t Want To”), but because the article included this surprising (and rare) illustration:

Truly something you don’t see every day.

Thank you for reading this forecast.

P.S.: the cat has fully recovered and returned to her regularly scheduled daily activity. She is currently snoozing on a file cabinet, no doubt fearlessly guarding the client horoscopes contained therein.

Friday 8/4/2017 & the Weekend: No Hygge for His Highness

TGIF!

An enterprising Capricorn Moon drives the day with a need to make things happen. What are you doing to take care of business today and all day Saturday? After a potentially self-indulgent morning (courtesy of a face-off between Moon and Venus at 5:22AM ET), Moon trines (harmonizes) with Mercury at 2:22 PM ET, suggesting an easy flow of communication on the details of your practical agenda.

Big planetary pattern of the week is the third and final  Jupiter (expansion, law, philosophy, fortune) square (challenging) Pluto at 2:29 PM ET. Pluto refers to power and resources, including the Powers That Be. Jupiter is simply to the max. Is that why the stock market hit another record high? Works for me. Will this bubble ever pop? I thought about this in 2015 — and after comparing patterns in 1999 and 2008, observed  one possibility happening — in 2021. This seemed astonishing — to be so far out — so much so that I did not share the observation with cherished Avid Readers back then. Well, we shall see. Though it’s hard to believe we won’t see some belt-tightening in the U.S. when Saturn enters Capricorn and opposes the U.S. Venus, Jupiter and Sun. Those oppositions begin in 2018 and continue through 2019, with late summer/fall 2019 looking especially svelte, as it were. Plus, Jupiter  leaves airy-fairy Libra for “get real” Scorpio (on October 10th), demanding depth and substance in order to claim your reward.

SATURDAY begins with a possible catharsis or power play around 7:37 AM ET, as the Moon makes its weekly clash with Pluto — and for the moment, Jupiter, too. Then the day is free and clear for constructive projects — including shopping. We’ll have another jolt around 5:22 AM ET on SUNDAY, when the Moon clashes with Uranus. After a brief Moon void (chill!), Moon enters Aquarius at 8:22 AM ET and drives the rest of the weekend with a need for friendship, networking, humanitarian causes and being of social significance. Dinner with friends?

No sleeping in on Monday. Emotions will be running high with the Full Moon in Aquarius at 2:11 PM ET. This is the first of two eclipses this month — as you must have heard. More on that in the next post.

And now, the news.

Reflecting the expansion (Jupiter) of the law (Libra) into matters of fairness and balance (Libra) with respect to the Establishment (Pluto in Capricorn), I offer you this: Justice Dept. Will Look for Anti-White Bias in College Admissions.

It’s much more fun to write about Uranus turning retrograde in pioneering Aries on Thursday, suggesting we’d see stories of  rebellion, mutation innovation, disruption, shocks, surprises, aviation, technology and other “far-out” stuff:

Meanwhile, P45’s horoscope continues to function as designed and as predicted. Transiting Saturn is  now slowing down to a dead stop at 21 degrees of Sagittarius. It turns direct on August 25th. It hangs at 21 Sag until mid-September, exerting a bigly squeeze on P45’s  opinonated Sagittarius Moon. Down in the garden eating worms? It doesn’t take the pressure off of his Sun at blah blah blah 22 Gemini; Saturn will oppose P45’s Sun at 22 Sag from mid-September until October 4th. So what kind of headlines is P45 making this week? Blocks and other items that show him looking very, very small:

You know who else is feeling squeezed, isolated and small? Henrik, Prince Consort of Denmark. At 83, he’s miffed that he’s never been named “King” Consort. If he were a she and married a king of Denmark, he would have been named Queen Consort. It’s just not fair! So today he announced that he wasn’t going to be buried next to his spouse, Queen Margrethe, whenever that time should come.  Here is Prince Henrik’s horoscope. Sun at 20 Gemini. His Saturn, ruler of his Capricorn Ascendant (how he needs to be seen, which is as an executive authority) will be eclipsed next February, suggesting a change of status, for better or for worse. His Saturn — at 28 Aquarius — will be exactly opposed by the total eclipse on August 21st. Let’s see what changes for him over the next six months.

And here’s what hygge means — if you didn’t get the reference in the headline for today’s post.

Oh! One more cool thing. At the end of October last year I wrote about a cooperative aspect between Jupiter and Saturn that was going to be closerthanthis around Inauguration Day, but then wouldn’t actually happen until August 27th. Jupiter refers to the Republican Party; Saturn to the Democratic. Isn’t it interesting that in recent days we are seeing a few instances of actual cooperation between these two parties? As in — a possible effort at a bipartisan health care bill? A unanimous effort to block P45 from making recess appointments? Let’s check back for further cooperation around August 27th….

What’s going on in your horoscope? If you’re near Santa Fe, we can chat in person next week. Otherwise I am available by phone. If you are not a professional astrologer and you haven’t checked in with an astrologer in the past 12 months, you’re due for a consultation. Astrologers are like dentists, doncha know…and perhaps you’ve never thought of us in quite that way before…

Thank you for reading this forecast.

Monday 7/31/2017: Sneak Peek at the Week; Uranus Retrograde; Jupiter Square Pluto; All Fired Up

Allll-righty then!

The work week began with the Moon in Scorpio, seeking to be seen as something/someone of depth and substance, for the sake of power and control. If you slept in, no worries, as the Moon was — and will be — void from 7:10AM ET until 8:01 AM ET on TUESDAY. Stick to routine concerns and roll with any twists and flakes that may disrupt your efforts to move forward in a straight line. Like getting two forecasts today instead of one, because of a tech snafu. Avoid impulse shopping, as purchases made during voids have an odd way of not being nearly as useful as you thought they might. Chill and remember that crises which crop up during voids are often much ado nothing — or in today’s case, “Mooch Ado About Nothing.” More on that in a minute.

Meanwhile, note that Venus left chatty Gemini at 10:54 AM ET and is now in Cancer. Social expression shifts from clever and informed to caring — and perhaps really meaning it. If Barack Obama makes news in the next 48 hours for expressing caring sentiments, chalk it up to his natal Venus at 1 Cancer — a placement born to attract prominence.

On Tuesday, we can exhale with a relief and lighten up as the Moon bounds into Sagittarius, looking for a gamble or a gambol. It forges ahead free and clear until 10PM ET, when it clashes with Mercury (mindset, communication, travel) over some righteous opinion, no doubt.  More of the same on WEDNESDAY, though note the potential for muddle or a dream around 11:44 AM ET, when the Moon clashes with visionary Neptune. Make sure you really understand — and that others understand, too.

On THURSDAY at 1:31 AM ET, Uranus turns retrograde, appearing to move backwards in the sky until January 2nd. What does that mean? When a planet is retrograde, the energy it represents is best expressed by turning inward, instead of outward. When direct, Uranus tends to rebel against the status quo set by others. When retrograde, Uranus needs to set itself free from limits that are self-imposed. So if you have a planet between 25 and 29 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn, you can expect an intense second hit of issues you’ve recently experienced involving freedom, independence, being yourself without compromise and sudden upsets of the status quo. You’ll get a third hit in early 2018, when Uranus travels forward and hits 25 t0 29 degrees Aries again.

On FRIDAY at 2:29 PM ET, expansive Jupiter in legal Libra clashes with ruthless Pluto in corporate Capricorn. This will be the third hit of a series I wrote about last December:

Jupiter keywords include: collective belief systems, such as higher education, religion, political philosophies and the media; optimism, benevolence, inflation, bombast. Whereas Saturn restricts, Jupiter expands, for better or for worse.  How will it apply its expansive efforts in 2017? Through the sign of Libra. Keywords for Libra include: fairness, balance, relationship, compromise, rational discourse, people-pleasing, diplomacy and the rule of law. Got a conflict? What a horrible concept for a Libra. Conflict? Eek! How can we avoid it?  Can we talk about it? Rationally? Weighing the pros and cons? In court or with some other mediator?

Pluto keywords include: perspective, news from underground, plutocrats, power, seismic activity (volcanoes), breakdown, elimination, transformation, corruption, obsession, regeneration and catharsis. Oh — and radiation — especially when coupled with Uranus, as in uranium and plutonium and nuclear power and arms. Is it any surprise that the Tweeter-in-Chief rattled nerves a few days ago by suggesting the U.S. expand its arsenal of nuclear weapons?

Jupiter square Pluto refers to expansion of power and resources, along with exaggeration and inflation of Plutonian themes.  With Pluto in Capricorn, we see the potential of expansion in Capricorn concerns: the Establishment, corporations, government institutions, status, infrastructure.

With Jupiter is in Libra, we see the potential for efforts to expand power and resources to be met with howls of “That’s not fair!” followed by “See you in court!” Or we might see a lot of, “Gee…I can’t make up my mind. I’ll just go along with whatever so-and-so says.” Judgments issued in 2017 when Jupiter is in touch with Uranus and/or Pluto may be shocking, tipping the balance of power. You’re personally affected by this potent opportunity if you have a planet or angle around 18 degrees of Libra, Aries, Cancer and Capricorn. This could be a very good thing. Make that pitch to the PTB.

Let the record show that the third Jupiter-Pluto square coincides with the third meet up of P45’s Jupiter to its natal Jupiter. Watch for him to be feeling especially expansive this week, pushing boundaries in gambling, creativity and in matters related to his children.

The only other Moon void during business hours this week is on Thursday from 5:38 PM ET until 8:37 PM ET — only affecting those on the West Coast. Onward!

And now, the news.

That “Mooch Ado About Nothing” comment was obviously referring to the dismissal of Anthony “^@%#^!&&&*!!” Scaramucci, frogmarched out of his post on his T-15th day as White House Communications Director. What did him in? The &(*@&#(&!(*()-laced interview he gave to The New Yorker?  His wife filing for divorce because of his “naked ambition,” as the New York Post  breathlessly reported? Rumors of a creepy congratulatory text sent to his wife after the birth of their second child (later denied)? The potential conflict of interest and regulatory review of the planned sale of his company, Skybridge Capital, to a Chinese conglomerate? P45’s inconsolable grief over the loss of White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, who resigned in protest? Or was it simply written in the stars — bwahahahaha?

Scaramucci was born Somewhere on Long Island on January 6, 1964 — unknown birth time. His enterprising Capricorn Sun is driven by a people-pleasing Libra Moon. His Capricorn Sun was supercharged mightily a couple of years ago by rebel Uranus and potent Pluto. No doubt he is a changed man — one his soon-to-be ex does not recognize. Current measurements in his horoscope are apt. There’s one between Venus and Jupiter (congratulations, it’s a boy!). There’s another between the Saturn and the Sun (grief, hard work, feeling confined — quite a contrast from Pluto’s prior supercharge). There’s one between Neptune and Jupiter (dude, definitely check the fine print on any deal signed). There’s one between Uranus and Mars, suggesting risky and/or rash action (next time, tell the reporter that the conversation is “off the record”).

The Mooch took up a ton of air time and column space last week. So did the story about P45’s sudden proclamation against transgendered persons serving in the military. What story wasn’t getting air time, when all of that kaka was hitting the fan? Another financier — Bill Browder, founder of Hermitage Capital Management — testified before the House Judiciary Committee last Wednesday about All Things Russian. The Atlantic published a transcript and it. Is. A. Page. Turner.  Much more compelling than that Scarymouth guy.  I remember when Mr. Browder published a book about his harrowing Russian experience a couple of years ago…so maybe the MSM thinks it’s old news. It’s not. It’s a must-read.

Meanwhile, Reince Priebus — a Pisces with Moon in Taurus — has been replaced as White House Chief of Staff by John Kelly — a Taurus with Moon in Pisces. Priebus couldn’t help but provoke his former boss, with his 24 Taurus Mars sitting right on P45’s Midheaven. With a Taurus Moon craving material comfort and security, he must feel a sense of relief, though with transiting Neptune at the bottom of his horoscope into 2018, standing on solid ground is rather iffy.

As for Mr. Kelly, I’m not convinced he will be any less provocative for P45, even though he’s being praised today for his “military discipline” (and for sacking the Mooch).  Kelly’s Mars is at 22 Virgo (so is Barack Obama’s). Sure he needs to execute action with precision, but that Mars is challenging P45’s Gemini Sun and Sag Moon. How soon before Kelly’s need to act for the sake of serve and propriety conflicts with P45’s regal Mars in Leo, i.e., “showtime, because I said so”? Interesting to see Neptune also hot in his horoscope now, opposing General Kelly’s (USMC-ret) natal Saturn. Neptune dissolves and obfuscates whatever it touches. Saturn refers to structure, authority and discipline. Fascinating.

Know who else has Mars challenging P45’s Midheaven, i.e, professional status? Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ), who has just published a book, “Conscience of a Conservative,”  criticizing P45 and especially  Flake’s fellow conservatives/Republicans who put P45 in office.

Tomorrow, we jump into August, where we have two eclipses coming up — one on the Full Moon on the 7th and  the other on the New Moon on the 21st. Here’s a preview of that exceptional event — a.k.a. the Great American Eclipse, posted here in January.  Contrary to what Newsweek says, astrologers are not “freaking out” over this total eclipse — not the smart ones, anyway. Sheesh!

Still, it’s nice to see astrology covered in a serious mainstream publication with respect and curiosity.  And the astrologers interviewed did a bang-up job of presenting astrology without too much techno-jargon. Huzzah!

Perhaps you’re wondering what the August eclipses are likely to trigger in your own personal world. If so, here’s how to contact me. I’ll be on the road again on the 8th — heading to Santa Fe for a few days and then Atlanta. If you live in those cities and would like to meet in person, that would be lovely. Otherwise, we can work efficiently together by phone.

Thank you for reading this forecast — and sharing with friends.
