Monday 10/22/2018: Sneak Peek at the Week: Thunderbolts & Lightning; Full Moon in Taurus

Happy Monday!

The Moon is in Aries, driving the day with a need to get there first, the faster the better. Said drive may have had a smack down around 10:59 AM ET, as it clashed with authoritarian Saturn. But Aries is a sign least likely to take “no” for an answer, so off it goes again, aided and abetted by the dirt and other depth of understanding that is likely to emerge around 3:11 PM ET, as Mercury (mindset) and Pluto (power; corruption exposed) form a cooperative alignment.

Planetary patterns of note this week include:

  • TUESDAY: Sun enters Scorpio at 7:23 AM ET. Scorpio demands substance; none of that airy-theory-rational stuff that Libra does so well. Scorpio is a deeply emotional sign, noted for its need for privacy, power and control.  Scorpios “build all the way up to Heaven…and all the way down to Hell,” wrote astrologer Linda Goodman. Hopefully you can hang with one who builds a stairway to Heaven. A Scorpio heading for Hell will happily annihilate everyone and everything in its way. Really, they are so very interesting. And loyal, too, if you happen to have one in your corner.
  • Also on TUESDAY: Moon makes its weekly clash with Pluto at 2:18 PM ET, suggesting a catharsis or power play. Adding to the disruption/breakthrough potential is the Sun’s annual face-off with rebel Uranus at 8:46 PM ET. Between now and then, I have an eye out for seismic activity, tech advances, rebellions and other wreckage of the status quo. Moon goes void at 2:18 PM ET, not to enter Taurus until…
  • WEDNESDAY at 10:33 AM ET. Before that, Venus (social graces, women) and Saturn (ambition, structure, authority) are in an easy alignment, at 8:52 AM ET. If you made a pitch you hoped would be persuasive on Monday, you may be able to move forward on structuring a deal through the rest of the week, as the Scorpio Sun with meet up with Venus and harmonize with Saturn on FRIDAY morning and SATURDAY evening, respectively.

Also on WEDNESDAY: the Full Moon in Taurus, exact at 12:45 PM ET. Looking back at the last Full Moon in Taurus (November 2017), planetary patterns were remarkably similar, as I wrote:

A Taurus Moon seeks material comfort and security, and comfort was what I was feeling last night when I happened to glance up at the sky and see the big, bright, beautiful Moon. When is the last time you looked up at the Moon?

The Taurus needs of conservation and preservation are opposed by the Sun in Scorpio. Depth is a Scorpio need….but so is decay and breakdown…and I may not emphasize those needs enough. Taurus refers to “mine.” Scorpio refers to “ours”…and therein lies the potential conflict, illumination and release…especially in matters of resources.

You could make some practical magic over the next few days. The Taurus Moon, whilst ripe with emotion, is also in a grounding Earth sign. Venus — symbol of women, money, values and social expression — is in harmony with Saturn, facilitating cooperation and structure…

What’s different this year is that the alignment between Venus and Saturn is happening in Scorpio and Capricorn, not Libra and Sagittarius. This isn’t about boundary-pushing theories; it’s about consolidating power and control. Also, Venus is retrograde this year, suggesting an apt time for strategic review…as well as for the New York Times to invite me to an online discussion this Thursday with columnist Ron Lieber on “why talking about money is taboo around the world. They’ll also share strategies for having low-drama discussions and explore the many benefits of talking finances with spouses, relatives and kids alike.” Mr. Lieber writes the Your Money column for the NYT.  Kudos to you, NYT — you are right on schedule.

I’ve been thinking a lot about reviewing finances while observing how the P45 Administration is dealing with Saudi Arabia, as more facts about WaPo journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s murder are published.   On Sunday Angela Merkel said that Germany would halt all arms sales to Saudi Arabia “until the case is cleared up.” Yet P45 continues to try to sell America on the benefits of doing billions’ worth of business with the Saudis. Plenty of U.S. companies do, and here’s a list prepared by CBS News.   Hmmm, I thought. Venus is in Scorpio. Venus refers to money and values. Scorpio refers to shared values and joint investments. Venus is retrograde. Time for a review. Do our shared investments accurately reflect our values?  I wondered what would happen if all investors who say they are outraged by what happened to Mr. Khashoggi sold their shares and/or refused to patronize these companies — and wrote letters explaining why.

But I digress. Getting back to this week’s Full Moon:

The Sabian Symbols for the Full Moon are “an electrical storm” (for the Moon at 2 Taurus) and “a broken bottle and spilled perfume” (for the Sun at 2 Scorpio). How interesting that these two Symbols reinforce the lightning bolt/shattering potential suggested by the Full Moon’s nearly exact conjunction with Uranus. Sabian Sage Blain Bovee suggests we apply these Symbols with a mind to “…sudden awakenings; being suddenly plunged into disruptive situations; a shock in midstream (raining on one’s parade); experiences that let the stink out (!); past events that pervade the air long past their due.” I can certainly imagine what the headlines might be over the next couple of weeks, given that advisory.

You are more personally affected by this Full Moon if you are Hillary Clinton or anyone else with planets around 2 degrees of Scorpio, Aquarius, Leo or Taurus. Can’t tell you any more than that, without looking at your unique horoscope. Here’s the 411 on personal consultations.

Note that the Moon will also be void on FRIDAY between 10:49 AM ET and 3:41 PM ET.

And now, the news.

Avid Readers know that whenever Uranus is pulling focus, we’re likely to have a big gender-bending headline, such as “P45 Administration Preparing to Deny Trans People Exist, Erase Protections.”  or “Lawyer Who Fought to Ban Trans People from Bathrooms Will Lead DOJ Civil Rights Division.”   These two headlines are also in sync with the mean-spirited potential (Venus square Saturn) of the P45 inauguration chart, as well as transiting Saturn opposing Venus in the U.S. horoscope.

We see transiting Saturn on the U.S. Venus (putting a squeeze on money; women) reflected here: “As U.S. Fertility Rates Collapse Finger-Pointing and Blame Follow;”   “Miscarrying at Work: The Physical Toll of Pregnancy Discrimination;” and  “Tax Cut Didn’t Reduce the Deficit — Despite P45’s  Many Promise.” The deficit is the highest it has been in six years.

In other news, last week I mentioned that Jupiter would soon leave Scorpio for Sagittarius, the boundary-pushing, righteously opinionated sign it rules. That will happen on November 8th. You may recall that Saturn was in Sagittarius for a couple of years starting in December of 2014. At that time, I wrote:

Saturn refers to control, discipline and structure. Sagittarius refers to collective belief systems, including the law, religion, philosophy and academia. Hmm…how about mind control? Or tests of faith?  It also refers to publishing and other mass communication media, as well as sports and entertainment. Expect efforts involving restrictions and/or restructuring. Sagittarius refers to that which is foreign, so issues of border control will likely become hotter. It refers to travel.  So we can expect headlines involving controls in these areas, too.

Jupiter refers to expansion. So we are likely to see huge stories in matters of Sagittarian concerns,  such as freedom of speech/mind control. Border expansion/foreign affairs/travel are also Sagittarius concerns, so I am wondering just how big this story will be around November 8th: “Migrant Caravan Swells to 5000, Resumes March from Mexico to U.S.”  For the record, Fox News says it’s now 7000 strong. When the hosts of Fox & Friends asked a panel of viewers for thoughts, they got quite a shock.

Finally, how about an upside potential of Venus (women) retrograde  (review/reunion) in Scorpio (horror)? OK  — from Jamie Lee Curtis’ Twitter feed:

“Biggest horror movie opening with a female lead. Biggest movie opening with a female lead over 55. Second biggest October movie opening ever. Biggest Halloween opening ever,”

Ms. Curtis is referring to the opening weekend of the latest sequel to Halloween. We’d expect Jamie Lee Curtis to be in a period of expansion with transiting Jupiter approaching her 29 degree Scorpio Sun. Her pioneering Aries Moon is currently being supercharged by transiting Pluto. Here is her horoscope. Definitely a force to be reckoned with.

Only fifteen days until Tuesday, November 6th — the midterm elections. Early voting has started in many states, like Texas and Georgia. Now is your chance to seize the potential of the Moon in Aries’s need to get there first. Vote! Vote! Vote! Every seat in the House is in play. How easy is it to vote in your state? Find out here. Vote!!

Thank you for reading this forecast — and for sharing it with your friends, who are all super-smart (just like you).

Thursday-Sunday 10/18-21/2018: News, News and More News

Alll-righty then!

The Moon is in Aquarius: arise, go forth and organize your network — rose-colored as it may be, given mental Mercury’s fast-approaching harmony with Neptune, exact tomorrow — FRIDAY — at 5:48 AM ET (note your dreams upon waking).

Ship it today if it needs to be of consequence, as the Moon goes void on Friday at 8:27 AM ET until 4:20 PM ET (at that time you may head to Canada, where marijuana has just been made legal). Right. And be mindful of a potential clash of wills/combative discourse around lunchtime ET on Friday, as Mercury (talking) and Mars (walking) will clash.

After 4:20 PM ET on Friday, Moon enters Pisces for the rest of the weekend. Shop away, as there will be no Moon void to render your purchases less able to fulfill what you think will be their useful purpose. Just be cautious with major investments in aesthetics, e.g. — art, wallpaper, cosmetic surgery, etc., as Venus is still retrograde.

Moon goes void on SUNDAY at 7:47 PM ET until 2:58 AM ET on MONDAY. Chill on Sunday night. You’ll need your beauty sleep to get  you through the driving energy of Monday’s  me-me-me Aries Moon. That — combined with Tuesday’s face-off between the Sun and rebel Uranus, plus Wednesday’s Full Moon — should start the week off with more than a few jolts and revelations.

And now, the news — over a week of it to cover. Ready?

Avid Readers will recall that last week was scheduled to be especially action-packed in the P45 administration, as transiting Mars opposed P45’s natal 12th House Pluto on October 9th.  Mars also clashed with the Scorpio Moon in the chart of the P45 inauguration. Not only that, but transiting Uranus made the second of three scheduled squares to the inaugural Sun, suggesting a disruption, a break-out or something just plain wacky. So what happened?

Wednesday had three tough patterns: a brutal square between retrograde Venus and Mars; an opposition between Mercury and disruptive Uranus and a Moon in depth-seeking Scorpio. Reflecting the potential for big wave/wash-out suggested by October 8th’s New Moon, Hurricane Michael slammed into the Florida Panhandle on October 10th. It was the strongest hurricane to hit Florida in 80 years. Did you know Rick Scott — Florida’s governor —  banned the words “climate change” from state agencies? It hasn’t stopped the hurricanes or the red tide, which now extends north from Miami all the way up to the Space Coast.

Fun fact: initially there was talk of Michael heading for Tampa, so I calculated the New Moon chart as it was seen in Tampa. Wasn’t convinced. Recalculating the New Moon for Panama City, however, shows a ton of tension making contact with the angles of the chart. Much more convincing as a point of impact. Michael hit land at  1:30 PM in Mexico Beach, just a few miles down the road. Again we see heavy tension on the angles of the chart.

Speaking of climate change, last week a coalition of international climate scientists presented another batch of dire findings and warnings, urging humankind to kick its fossil fuel habit not now, but RIGHT NOW, or we’ll be reeeeeallly sorry in a dozen years. Astrologically, I would expect the 2040s to be the decade of astounding upheaval, and since I’ve always thought I’d live to be 100, I’ll remind you in 2040 that I told you so. Until then, while Neptune continues through Pisces (until 2025), crises involving water, floods, droughts, displaced persons, toxins, drugs and oil will demand attention. After that, we’ll know what we need to fight for…and dream of a new frontier. Oh look…as if on cue…here’s a new missive from the Hathors via sound healer Tom Kenyon. We haven’t heard from the Hathors since April.

Meanwhile, as Michael and climate scientists were howling, P45 held a gathering of sorts with rapper Kanye West and 82-year-old retired NFL legend Jim Brown .  You can watch SNL’s version of it here (with much of the dialogue lifted from the actual event) or read the transcript of Kanye’s baffling 10-minute rant. The point of the exercise — dear Avid Readers — is to think about what might be going on in his horoscope .  If you guessed Jupiter (to reflect his ego that needs to be the size of Brazil), yes he does have Sun conjunct expansive Jupiter in blah-blah-blah Gemini. Good for you! And his Moon is in Pisces, so of course, he needs to feel stuff and, like, y’know.

Bonus points if you’re wondering how nebulous Neptune fits into the picture. Excellent, students! Not only does it oppose his Sun and Jupiter, it also probably squares his Pisces Moon. Does he have any idea who he really is? Frankly, with those four planets now in contact with…transiting Neptune, we can appreciate why he would be in his own personal Twilight Zone. Is there more? Of course! We have to pinpoint that buzz…which would be Kanye’s Venus-Mars conjunction in Taurus suggesting a need for earthy comfort, with a flair for the unconventional, as the two are opposed by natal Uranus. That need for material security is being supercharged as I type by….transiting Uranus, too, suggesting he needs to be –shall we say — innovative and exciting —  in his action and social expression.

Volatility was also experienced in the stock markets last week — dropping  800 points in one day.  If you’ve been reading this forecast since forever, you know that hard patterns involving Uranus and Pluto are often reflected as dips or surges in the markets. Meanwhile,  in the horoscope of the United States, we see a potential focused streamlining in matters of women, money, art and expansion. Why? Transiting Saturn (Mr. Streamline) is opposing the U.S. Jupiter (expansion) and Venus (women, money, art, values). That’s good news for women of gravitas, who are ready to kick butt in the midterm elections…as voters and candidates. The flip side is the potential for harsh control. Next year, as Avid Readers will recall, Mr. Streamline will oppose the U.S. Sun and natal Saturn. More squeeze, focus and control…even as transiting Jupiter will expand the part of the U.S. horoscope that reflects our love affair with the American Dream, romanticized cowboys and Hollywood. Hmm…

In other news…

It’s too hard to write about Jamal Khashoggi, the exiled Saudi journalist who was murdered at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2nd — by a hit squad allegedly sent by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Why? Presumably because words have power, and what Mr. Khashoggi was writing was seen as a threat to the Crown Prince’s authority. My coping strategy is to think about movies like The Shawshank Redemption, where truth and goodness do prevail over fear, cruelty and control…even if it takes a really long time. I can only say that when Jupiter enters Sagittarius on November 8th, over the next 12 months we will see significant stories involving freedom of speech pitted against the forces of authoritarianism. Today, for example, a Vietnamese blogger/human rights activist named Mother Mushroom arrived in the United States after being released from prison — only on condition that she leave her homeland. Proof that the pen is mightier than the sword?

On a lighter note…

As Uranus travels through Taurus for the next seven years, it will revolutionize our attachment for material comfort and security. With Venus retrograde, suggesting an opportunity to review our aesthetics, how cool is it to see “The Transformational Bliss of Borrowing Your Office Clothes.”    Save yourself money and time.

Oh! And this one is worth a Snoopy Dance: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are expecting their first child in the spring — probably around the time transiting Jupiter squares his Virgo Sun. I’m psyched because when I wrote about their horoscopes a year ago, it was clearly suggested that they would waste no time starting a family. No, you won’t find that observation on the post, because I deleted it before publishing. It felt better to just let them be. Otherwise I might have ended up in a snarky commentary like this Guardian op-ed — and who needs that?

One more fun post! Kudos to the New York Times for daring to publish “Astrology is Hard, Even if It’s Fake”.   I appreciate their effort to shatter common myths about astrology, making people aware that it takes years of study and practice to become a good astrologer…and even longer than that to become truly excellent.   One day maybe NYT readers will be mature enough to be allowed to post thoughtful comments on such articles. As it stands now, the comments section in the article is closed. UPDATE on 10/19/2018:  the comments section is now open — feel free to post!

Thank you for reading this forecast. Here’s the 411 on personal consultations. We will have an inspiring discussion together.

Monday 10/15/2018: Sneak Peek at the Week; Mercury Rules

Good morning!

Arise, go forth and make it happen. The start of the work week is driven by an enterprising Moon in Capricorn, perfect for taking care of business. Even better: no big bumps in the Moon’s path today; it makes easy contact with Mercury, Venus and Neptune (communication, social expression and vision). Not only that, but a focused alignment between Mercury and Venus in Scorpio at 4:20 PM ET supports deep thoughts and communication involving worth, women and aesthetics. Time to lobby for a controlling interest? If you have a planet around 9 degrees of Scorpio, Taurus, Leo or Aquarius, this especially applies to you.

Compared to last week, exact planetary patterns are a breeze, most of which feature mental Mercury. Plenty of buzz this week, especially with the building tension suggested by next Tuesday’s annual face-off between the Sun and rebel Uranus, followed by the Full Moon on Wednesday:

  • TUESDAY — Moon makes its weekly clash with Pluto at 4:54 AM ET; First Quarter Moon happens at 2:02 PM ET. What was washed away last week, and how are you going to make it work? Moon goes void at 5:49 PM ET — chill until 3:36 AM ET on…
  • WEDNESDAY — when the Moon enters “who’s yer buddy?” Aquarius, looking to show off its social significance. Moon’s weekly clash with rebel Uranus at 5:17 AM ET may get you out of bed with a jolt.
  • THURSDAY — Moon continues  through Aquarius, with no void to mess with your efforts to move forward in a straight line. An impassioned meet-up between the Moon and Mars at 7:50 AM ET sets the tone for the day. A declaration of independence?  By then we’ll be feeling the inspired potential of…
  • FRIDAY’s inspired harmony between Mercury and Neptune, exact at 5:48 AM ET. Note your dreams and chill between 8:27 AM ET and 4:20 PM ET, when the Aquarius Moon will be void. That mean no freaking out over a perceived crisis that may crop up, however confrontational it may seem. The verbal stiletto you may encounter comes courtesy of a clash between Mercury and Mars, exact at 1:23 PM ET…and you are remembering that Venus is still very much retrograde, aren’t you? This explains why social graces may be nowhere to be found.  Friday night and the weekend are brought to you by the Moon in Pisces. Go with the flow while you can.

Speaking of Venus retrograde, if you’d like to know how this one is likely to affect your horoscope, toss $44 into my Cosmic Tip Jar (go to this page and look for the gold DONATE button on the left hand side), and I will happily send you a few paragraphs of insights. Fun fact: on the day I first posted this opportunity, everyone who responded had Sun in Sagittarius.  After the first day, other Sun Signs stepped up to the plate — but no Sagittarians. I wonder what that means.

For longer, in-depth consultations about you, you and your significant other and/or you and your adorable children, look here.

The plan is to send a clown car full of news later today. Let’s see if the Capricorn Moon will help make that happen.

Thank you for reading this forecast.

Monday 10/8/2018: Sneak Peek at the Week; New Moon in Libra; Venus squares Mars; Sun squares Pluto

Happy Monday from Los Angeles! Will be back in New York on Wednesday.

The work week begins with the Moon in Libra, driving the day with a need for fairness, balance and social graces. Good luck with that while Venus is retrograde (as of last Friday), along other patterns happening this week. If you’re feeling restless or listless today, sensing that something new is on the horizon, you’re tuning in to the fact that we are in the dark side of the Moon. The new cycle begins at 11:47 PM ET.

This New Moon happens at 15 Libra, so anyone with planets or angles at 15 Libra, Aries, Cancer or Capricorn will have their horoscopes activated. How so? That’s a discussion point for a consultation with your local astrologer. FYI, the horoscope of the U.S. is one of those activated. Should be a rollicking lunar cycle.

Libra is the sign of partnerships; marriage is an obvious partnership; some business relationships are partnerships, including adversarial ones. We went through the first half of the zodiac with New Moons focusing on the Self: Aries = my identity; Taurus = my values/possessions; Gemini = my mind; Cancer = my emotions/family; Leo = my love to give; Virgo = my service/work/body. Now we’re ready to go public. Take a look at your relationships: how are We doing? What is the State of the Union?  How does it reflect the Libran qualities of justice, fairness, diplomacy, peace, beauty and sweetness? Is there resentment or a lack of appreciation? Are there issues hanging in the balance (Libra is the sign of the Scales)?

Venus rules Libra, and as you know, right now Venus is in Scorpio and retrograde. This is not a happy placement, and we are building to an assertive/aggressive release on WEDNESDAY. Why? Because Venus (yin) and Mars (yang) will square each other at 10:29 PM ET. And what is said is likely to be a game changer, for better or worse. Why? at 1:35 PM ET on WEDNESDAY, mental Mercury (how we need to think and communicate) will be opposed by rebel Uranus. Not only that, but on FRIDAY just after midnight ET, the Sun (leaders, will) squares Pluto. In the news, this suggests a significant powerplay involving political leaders and CEOs; news from underground. Whatever hits the fan that day will have an easy flow of communication, affirming the Established Order, suggested by Mercury in harmony with Saturn at 4:20 AM ET.

Avid Readers may recall that this week would likely be a week of significant action/assertion on the part of — or against — P45 and his administration. We see this in his horoscope and in the chart for the P45 inauguration. Perhaps conquering the Supreme Court qualifies. Perhaps there will be more. Oh, but I’m getting ahead of myself. Point is, we need to factor the patterns described in the previous paragraph into our analysis of what this New Moon suggests. Empowered, innovative ideas and social expression, stemming from a need to reassess and reclaim value related to money, aesthetics and WOMEN comes to mind. Mars is squaring Venus. The next aspect in the New Moon chart is a ruthless, cathartic square between the Moon and Pluto on TUESDAY at 4:50 AM ET. This energy can be applied for better or for worse.

The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon is “a boat landing washed away,” which Blain Bovee says is “an image sweeping away human constructs, calling for repair and renewal.” This line gave me pause: “‘Washed away’ implies the power of waves which carry off that which cannot withstand their force.” Waves, eh? What kind of waves, with Election Day happening on Tuesday, November 6th, during this lunar cycle? We’re sure to hear plenty of talk about waves over the next few weeks.

Bovee also observes that if your boat landing has been washed away, there’s no safe place to dock — but this is OK. We are advised to take the time to repair the damage, to heal — and to contemplate the unseen powers of nature. We are invited to consider “feeling washed out; being swept away by powerful forces; a strong sense of inner renewal; a positive attitude about the approaching new day.” Sounds like a apt time to clean the house…

In other news, the always-in-sync Beth Owl’s Daughter’s Card of the Week suggests a potential healing…

Other patterns of note this week:

  • TUESDAY: at 8:41 PM ET, Mercury leaves Libra for Scorpio. No more weighing the options in matters of ideas and communication; Mercury in Scorpio demands depth, substance and control — at least until Halloween.
  • Moon voids:
    • TUESDAY 4:50 AM ET until 12:09 AM ET on WEDNESDAY;
    • THURSDAY 7:12 PM ET until 5:53 AM ET on FRIDAY;
    • SATURDAY 8:58 PM ET until 3:17 PM ET on SUNDAY.
  • The all-day void on Tuesday is most likely to disrupt your efforts to move forward in a straight line, as it covers the entire business day. Chill and don’t freak out over crises, as they are likely to be much ado about nothing. Avoid impulse shopping; roll with the twists and flakes.

And now, the news.

Astrology is so amazing. Avid Readers will remember that on Sept 5th I noted that in mid-October, Brett Kavanaugh’s horoscope was ripe for potential expansion. He has transiting Jupiter square his Aquarius Sun exact at about 9:30 PM ET….TODAY. When his confirmation hearing began in September, that Jupiter transit (expansion/reward potential) seemed to be happening later than one might think — if he was to be confirmed, as Mitch McConnell’s plan was to have Kavanaugh seated in time to join SCOTUS on Opening Game Day  — a.k.a., October 1st. BUT — before Jupiter could get to Kavanaugh’s Sun, it met up with his Neptune (booze, fog, deception). We had to go through that fog.

And over the weekend, as you know, Kavanaugh was confirmed during the dead Moon — and sworn in as an official Supreme on Saturday around 6 PM ET in D.C. — much to my admitted personal anger and disappointment — but not to the surprise of my astrological mind.  Not only that, but all of the pomp and circumstance of his anticipated reward happens tonight at 7 PM ET (a few hours before hit exact Jupiter-Sun transit), in a ceremonial swearing-in hosted by P45. Which makes one wonder if this was truly inevitable, which could be depressing. On the other hand, while his Saturday swearing-in might have felt like  a reward for Justice Brewski, in the bigger scheme of things, it was not an apt time for initiating a new justice. Seriously, on a dead Moon opposing Neptune (booze, fog, deception)? Venus retrograde in Scorpio square Mars? The energetic time stamp of his swearing-in can’t help but mark his tenure, however long it lasts. Here’s how SNL covered the GOP celebration in its latest cold open. On a Moon-Neptune opposition, of course there was beer.

In other news, just before 2 PM ET on Saturday in Schoharie, NY, a limo carrying 17 people on their way to a brewery tour crashed. All passengers were killed, plus the driver and two pedestrians. At the time of the accident, Uranus (accidents) was on the angles of the chart for that moment in Schoharie. We see this pattern over and over again: heavy planets on an angle coincident with an energetic release.

Meanwhile, note that whenever a planet is retrograde, it facilitates reviewing and revisiting the past. With Venus retrograde, we see the potential for revisiting past relationships and social expression. Venus is now squaring Mars — this is supercharged potential. Here are two must-read op-eds published on Sunday reflecting that pattern:

Elsewhere — an innovative attack (Mars in Aquarius) slays the art world (Venus in Scorpio): “Banksy Prank Sees Million-Dollar Art Work Shredded Live at Auction” — watch the video. Also from the world of art, the NYT Sunday magazine: “The Ugly Beauty of Cindy Sherman’s Selfies”.

Hey! Have you registered to vote? Are you SURE??? Please check your status — and share this link with everyone you know. Voter registration deadlines in many states is TOMORROW, October 9th. Vote, vote, vote!!!

Finally, Avid Readers know that planetary patterns suggest strong potential for authoritarian rulers to be in vogue. It’s not just the United States; it’s everywhere, and it’s not going away this year or even next, as Saturn (authority figures) meets up with Pluto (power; rot; corruption) in Capricorn (Powers That Be).  Here’s John Oliver to tell you about a racist, misogynist authoritarian currently campaigning in Brazil. His name is Jair Bolsonaro. He did not win the election outright yesterday, but he came darn close. And he is still in the running.

We live in such interesting times. What would we do without this astrological perspective? If you follow the patterns in your own horoscope, you will learn that while times are “interesting” around the globe, this does not mean you will not have opportunities for growth and reward.

If you’d like to know what this Venus retrograde period suggests for you, I would be pleased to offer insights in a special mini-consultation. Click the link below and send me your birth time, place and date of birth. Then toss $44 into my Cosmic Tip Jar. I will send you a few paragraphs about Venus retrograde, and how it may be building on the lessons posed by this summer’s Mars retrograde, too. I will also email you a copy of your horoscope, if you have not received one from me before.

Thursday 10/4/2018 & the Weekend: Dead Moon Rising; Venus Retrograde Reminder

Happy Thursday! The Moon is in Leo, driving the day with a need to shine, shine, shine — especially drama kings and queens.  Get it off your desk today and ship if you must; tomorrow (Friday) the Leo Moon goes void, suggesting nothing of consequence is likely to be initiated. Wonder if that will include the Senate’s planned procedural vote on the tainted Kavanaugh nomination. Mitch McConnell seems to be all for it — but those all-day Moon voids do raise the odds of twists and flakes.

Moon enters Virgo to clean up the mess on Friday at 7:19 PM ET, and there is talk of a final confirmation vote on Saturday. Note that the Virgo Moon will be in the final days of the lunar cycle, suggesting a sense of restlessness or listlessness, so what good is a dead moon anyway? I’ll tell you: if you want to get something done in a back room filled with obfuscating cigar smoke, that would be the time.

Moon will be void on Sunday between 10:03 AM ET and 9:10 PM ET. No impulse shopping!

No sleeping in on MONDAY. The Moon will be in Libra, sign of justice, fairness and balance….but still technically dead until 11:47 PM ET, when the New Moon officially begins.

And now, the news.

As anticipated, major investigative dirt hit the fan, in sync with Tuesday’s supercharged contact between Mercury (information, communication) and Pluto (corruption exposed; power and resources). Here’s a sampling:

In other news…

Coincidence or conspiracy? At least it gave late-night talk show hosts something to talk about.

Thank you for reading this forecast. Remember that Venus turns retrograde on Friday at 3:05 PM ET — it may be quite an effort to mind your manners. I expect we’ll see plenty of less-than–gracious social expression in the air over the next few weeks. For some, it will be about time. For others, it’s still a matter of debate.  For those in the former category, like this new font — which apparently allows people to remember what they have read — it may be Venus-in-Scorpio ugly, but it’s also Mercury-square-Pluto empowering.

Last but least, are you a woman over 40? If so, you may enjoy seeing my guest appearance on a Facebook Live session hosted by Jackie Morgan MacDougal, founder of Forty Thrive. Jackie and I were colleagues back in the day at NBC; now she’s helping women reach their full potential by coaching and inspiring. She also teaches how to produce podcasts. Today, however, we talked about astrology — and how it can be helpful to women who want to be Forty Thrive. Send me an email (just hit reply now and type away), if you would like to see our talk, and I will direct you to Forty Thrive on Facebook (it’s a closed group). We had such fun. Can’t wait to do more.

Monday 10/1/2018: Sneak Peek at the Week; Venus Retrograde in Scorpio

Happy Monday!

The Moon was void in Gemini this morning until 2 PM ET, suggesting actions initiated may be of little consequence and crises which crop up may be much ado about nothing. It was during this long void that Canada, Mexico and the United States reached an agreement on a new trade deal, now called USMCA instead of NAFTA. So what, big deal? Now that the Moon is fully engaged in Cancer, the next few days are driven by a need for emotional/homeland/family security, so expect those themes to be front and center in the news.

Moon will be void on Wednesday between 4:33 AM ET and 5:12 PM ET. Then it enters Leo, driving most of the rest of the work week with a need for drama and ego recognition.  Friday is another mostly all-day void. Chill and skip out early if you can, as actions initiated may well be a bust between 7:34 AM ET and 7:19 PM ET. After that, Moon enters Virgo to put things back in order, in preparation for the New Moon on Monday. Note that Sunday is another all-day Moon void, so do your shopping on Saturday.

Notable planetary patterns this week:

  • TUESDAY: Mercury squares Pluto at 8:01 PM ET, suggesting investigative dirt hitting the fan. You’re personally affected if you have a planet around 18 Libra, Aries, Cancer or Capricorn. Perhaps your words will be more empowered than usual. One can only hope.
  • TUESDAY: Moon makes its weekly clash with Pluto at 10:10 PM ET, setting the stage for a catharsis or power play.
  • WEDNESDAY: Moon makes its weekly clash with Uranus at 7:29 PM ET, suggesting an upset or other disruptions of the status quo.

The biggest shift this week happens on FRIDAY at 3:05 PM ET. That’s when Venus turns retrograde, not to turn direct until November 16th. What does this suggest? Avid Readers will recall that when a planet turns retrograde, it is an apt time for review and/or turning inward in matters related to that planet.

Venus turns retrograde every 18 months for about 40 days. Last time it was retrograde was back in March of 2017 — and here are a few headlines from that time period. Last year’s retrograde was in Aries; this one is in Scorpio. Frankly, Venus is not at her accommodating best in either of those signs — but judging from the headlines, perhaps now is not the time for all that is feminine to be so accommodating.

Keywords for Venus include: love, money, values, beauty and women — issues related to all of these are now up for review. What are your values? Does the company you keep accurately reflect those values? Whom, what and how do you need to love? Venus also refers to charm, appreciation and social graces — and it’s fascinating how quickly these qualities fly out the window during Venus retrograde. The image I share with students for Venus retrograde is the lid on a can of sardines being rolled back, revealing all the smelly fish.

Money concerns may come up; questions about what you are really worth may arise. If money is not your concern, still be advised that the general rule is to avoid major purchases of art, beauty or luxury during this time; our sense of aesthetics is often “off,” and what we find attractive now may not be so satisfying later.  This especially applies to relationships.

So what’s the up side of this potentially witchy, bitchy Venus? By getting in touch with our baser instincts, we have an opportunity for clarity in our existing relationships. Those that are based on superficial charm are not likely to stand, especially during this Venus retrograde in Scorpio, a sign which demands depth and substance. Maybe you don’t need that dead wood in your life. Time for a purge! And by the way, when was the last time you reviewed your finances and made a plan? And speaking of baser instincts, political debates are likely to become even more heated and barbed as we head towards Election Day. If you don’t know which candidates are nasty or nice, you will soon enough.

This Venus retrograde is especially fascinating because it is tied to this summer’s Mars retrograde. How so? Remember that Mars turned retrograde at 9 degrees of Aquarius, meaning that anyone with a planet around 9-10 degrees of Aquarius, Taurus, Leo and Scorpio would be affected. Venus is turning retrograde at 10 degrees of Scorpio! So if you do have a planet around 9-10 degrees of Aquarius, Taurus, Leo or Scorpio, your summer project is far from over. That means you, Brett Kavanaugh — and you, Jeff Flake and  Ted Cruz. Ooh — and Larry Flynt, too. Wonder what he’s been up to? Keep an eye on October 10th, when retrograde Venus squares Mars. Could be quite an outburst.

The Sabian Symbol for this Venus retrograde is “an embassy ball,” which Sabian Symbol guru Blain Bovee notes is an “exclusive gathering of the elite, gathered mostly for their mutual benefit. When positive, integrity and excellence shine; when not so positive, elitism, disdain and specious superiority show forth.” Wow. We last saw this Symbol activated back in February 2013, when Saturn turned retrograde at the same degree of Scorpio. Check out what and who were making headlines back then.

Venus will remain in Scorpio until Halloween. On that day, Venus is opposed by Uranus (expect a jolt) and then backs into Libra, where Venus functions with exceptional grace. Venus will remain in Libra for all of November, including — obviously — Election Day, November 6th. I find this encouraging for the unprecedented number of women who are running for office this year. If they win, it is likely to be by an unprecedented number of women voters.

And now, the news.

UPDATE: at the time Jeff Flake was ambushed by two women in an elevator last week, the horoscope for that moment: 9:31 AM ET on 9/28/2018 in Washington, DC, Venus (women), Mars (men) and Uranus (upset) were all on angles of the horoscope, giving them in-your-face impact. Fascinating.

UPDATE: on Michael Moore, whose horoscope I’ve covered here — and also in an article published in Dell Horoscope. In that article, I argued that 2018 was likely to be challenging — and downright frustrating. A couple of weeks ago — on the third rebellious Mars-Uranus square, his latest film premiered. It’s called Fahrenheit 11/9, and even though some critics are calling it “his best film in years,”, it’s not doing as well as expected at the box office; in fact, some are calling it a bomb. Ouch. Why did I think 2018 would be a squeeze for Mr. Moore?  Transiting Saturn is sitting on his Capricorn Moon and Mars. Focus and ambition, yes. Expansion — not so much.

I can’t bring myself to write anything today about Brett Kavanaugh, other than to note that the potential for expansion suggested by transiting Jupiter squaring his Aquarius Sun is exact on October 9th, which is about when I expect we’ll see a power play — for better or worse — in the life of P45. For me, it’s too close to call. I can say, however, that SNL’s take on the whole hot mess of a hearing was an excellent catharsis — here it is, if you missed it. And if you’re wondering if Matt Damon — who portrayed Kavanaugh in the cold open — has a planet around 9 degrees of Aquarius, Leo, Taurus or Scorpio, he does: Jupiter at 9 Scorpio. And look how he expanded his reach. Coincidence or conspiracy?

I still have appts available here in Los Angeles. Give a shout if you’d like to book a consultation.
