Note your dreams upon waking, as the Pisces Moon hooks up with Neptune at 5:49AM ET. A cooperative connection between Mercury and Saturn — the third in a series noted in prior forecasts this week — may inspire a practical way to turn a vision into reality. Moon goes void on a deep and potentially healing connection to Pluto at 6:01PM ET….not to enter Aries until Friday at 6:13PM ET. So get it off your desk today rather than tomorrow, if you can.
Other cosmic news of note: Mars leaves Pisces for Aries, the sign it rules, at 7:12PM ET. At its best, Mars in Aries is courageous, inspiring, pioneering and a fighter for the underdog. It can be extremely efficient when it comes to taking action. It has great physical stamina and prowess. At its worst, Mars in Aries can be way too macho — fighting for the sake of fighting; needing to win at any cost.
Mars rules steel, guns and war — and at 0 degrees of Aries, it suggests that such matters will be prominent. Hence we have Gail Collins writing about Senator John Cornyn’s proposed bill — introduced earlier this month that would:
“… allow people from states with lax gun laws to carry their concealed weapons all around the country.
The goal, Cornyn said in a press release, is to treat local gun permits “like drivers’ licenses.”’
Ms. Collins tears this proposal to shreds. Cheerfully, of course.
It makes me think about the satirical cartoon, A Brief History of the United States, which appeared in Michael Moore’s Oscar-winning documentary, Bowling for Columbine. Which then makes me think about an Oklahoma state legislator’s bill that would eliminate funding for high school A.P. History classes, because the legislator believes that the class curriculum takes “a consistently negative view of American history”. This would be along the lines of Saturn in Sagittarius controls we’d expect in collective belief systems, of which higher education is one.
I’m fuming today about an incident in Alabama in which a 57-year old man from India was taking a morning stroll in the most boring looking suburban neighborhood you have ever seen. This man was visiting his son. He’d come from India to help his son and daughter take care of their young son. He was spotted walking on the sidewalk by one of the neighbors — a man — who apparently was following him in a car as he strolled. This man called 911 to report the mysterious “skinny black guy”. Whatever happened to people smiling and waving “hello” to people out for a morning stroll, as has been known to occur in places like Maine — or even on the busy streets of Manhattan?
Anyway, with Mars within two degrees of the Ascendant (Feb 6, 8:19AM in Madison, AL), two police officers show up and within minutes the Indian grandfather has been thrown to the ground, thus breaking his back. Fortunately the incident was captured on film, so the lies the officers told about the man “putting his hands in his pockets” did not hold up. One of the officers was fired and faces criminal charges. I want to know more about that 911 caller, though. Who is he? Why did he feel so threatened? How does he feel now?
Can you tell I’m experiencing a Mars transit in my horoscope today? When Mars is making contact with planets or points in a horoscope, we can expect action, assertion, anger, accidents — and it’s not always pretty. It can be heroic, though. If you have a planet or angle around 0 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn, you may be feeling riled up, too. Not only do you need a physical release, but with Venus entering Aries tomorrow, you’d also benefit from a constructive social expression of your ruling passions.
One woman whose horoscope was affected by Mars at the Aries Point is Christina Bond (Oct 8, 1959 in Niles, MI). She died in early January in a freak accident. While adjusting the gun holster she had tucked inside her bra, the gun fired. No surprises in her horoscope. Ms. Bond’s Sun is at 14 Libra… hit by the Uranus-Pluto square and by October’s lunar eclipse…and by yet another measurement from freaky Uranus to her Sun. We’d expect sudden prominence and fierce individualism. Strange that news of her death was delayed, but perhaps not from the perspective of planetary patterns. It made headlines when transiting Mars made contact with her Saturn at 1 Capricorn (also an Aries Point) — prominence!
Also making headlines: controversy over Chinese New Year, and whether it is the Year of the Sheep (sheep are ruled by Aries) or the Year of the Goat (goats are ruled by Capricorn). Really, which is it? Hong Kong’s leader thinks it’s the former, and has urged citizens to act accordingly. Not likely, in a year with Uranus in Aries (sheep/ram) squaring Pluto in Capricorn (goat). Here’s more on the debate from the NYT, as well as an earlier article about the apparent push — pun obviously intended — to give birth before February 19th, as some believe the Year of the Sheep is unlucky. We shall see!

East Coasters, make the most of the morning while the Sagittarius Moon is fully in gear. It goes void at 12:18PM ET, suggesting a higher probability of twists and delays in your efforts to move forward in a straight line. Keep that in mind if you work in a field where you simply must ship today. A live television show, for example, isn’t going to not air because of a Moon void. So just roll with whatever comes up and refrain from making a mountain out of what may just be a molehill of a crisis. Chill!
West Coasters, Moon will be void all day and into the night; Moon enters Capricorn on Tuesday at 6:03AM ET. And that’s when the get down to business vibe should really kick in, aided by an especially proactive Mars (action!) in practical Capricorn. Other Moon voids for the week: Wednesday 11:01PM ET until 9:52AM ET on Thursday; Saturday 2:22AM ET until 12:37PM ET. Really, not much to derail your efforts during business hours save for today (Monday). Onward!
As noted in Friday’s forecast, the first part of this week is dominated by dreamy connections to the Sun and Venus from visionary Neptune. This can be super-inspiring if you’re looking for a creative spark or deeply spiritual experience. I hope you’ve been keeping track of your dreams over the past few days.
A challenge to your New Moon agenda may show up late Thursday, on the First Quarter Moon. On the plus side, cooperative connections which are exact on Saturday suggest further inspired communication and thought processes, some of which may be quite magical. Projects that were on your desk around October 20th may be up for a revision. In fact there may be plenty to revisit and rethink as Mercury gets back up to speed in a forward direction. Be patient as our brains adjust to the change of motion.
And now, the news.
As anticipated, with Mars (planet of action/aggression) at the Aries Point over the weekend we did see more than the usual assortment of “if it bleeds, it leads” headlines. Here in New York, a man was killed after attacking four police officers with a hatchet. In Washington State, we saw another jarring shooting in a high school. “Once Again, Guns” was the title of NYT columnist Gail Collins’ most recent cheerful offering about that incident and the issue of guns in general in this election season.
You are aware that there is an election in the United States next Tuesday, yes? And you are planning to vote, right? Because if you don’t vote, someone else will. And you can quote me on that.
Meanwhile, Mars at the Aries Point sounds like a great time for the NYT to publish, by popular demand, a new and improved version of its “Scientific 7-Minute Workout.” Now there’s a productive way to channel a need for action and aggression. Go for it.
In other news, you might be startled by an especially aggressive tactic the I.R.S. has employed against certain citizens. Under a law that was no doubt well-intended, it seems that the agency has the ability to seize the accounts of taxpayers without ever charging them of a crime. Therefore, this is what it has done. But now that the New York Times took the time and trouble to give this aggressive tactic prominence, the I.R.S. is reportedly “curtailing” the practice.
Now what about all the dreamy, magical thinking that was also suggested by the weekend’s planetary patterns? The NYT had something to say about that, too. One op-ed in the Sunday Review was called “The Problem with Positive Thinking”. Another item really does read like a dream come true. Chocolate has yet another health benefit, a recent study suggests. It may improve your memory. But you’ll have to indulge in the really good dark chocolate, not the processed stuff on the shelves of your local convenience store. And you’ll have to eat a lot of it.
On a housekeeping note, the Mercury retrograde incentive for those of you who’ve been considering scheduling a first-time personal consultation is on through the end of this month. Here’s the 411.

Put on your rose colored glasses. The Scorpio Sun and Moon suggest depth and intensity, but other patterns are positively dreamy. A dreamy intensity?
The only aspect of note on Friday is an easy connection between the Moon and Pluto at 2:15PM ET, offering a healing quality to whatever deep subjects may be broached. The rest of the day and night benefit from the potential magnetism of the Sun and Venus meeting up at 3:31AM ET on Saturday — oohlala. An expansive connection between the Moon and Jupiter at 5:44AM ET suggests indulgence; a reality check or serious focus kicks in around 12:11PM ET Saturday, when the Moon goes void until 12:40AM ET on Sunday.
No shopping sprees during the void, if you please. And be mindful running errands about town. During the void, Mercury turns direct (at 3:17PM ET), suggesting a higher probability for communication and travel snafus. Plus we’ll have action hero Mars pulling focus in high-flying Sagittarius. Why pulling focus? Because it’s at the end of Sag, about to hit 0 Capricorn on Sunday at 6:43AM ET, which regular readers know is the Aries Point. If you have planets or angles at 29 Virgo, Gemini, Pisces and Sagittarius….or 0 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, you may be feeling rather feisty, and the world will probably know it. We’re sure to see some feisty action in the headlines.
Mars functions very well in “make it happen” Capricorn. If your New Moon agenda includes building an empire, go for it from now until the first week of December. Otherwise, note your dreams Sunday morning, as the high-flying Sagittarius Moon will be challenged by nebulous Neptune at 9:33AM ET. A day with Moon in Sag is always up for a gamble or a gambol; let your dreams inspire you to broaden your horizons.
No sleeping in for East Coasters on Monday. West Coasters, Moon goes void at 12:18PM ET with lovely connections among Venus, Sun and Neptune in the background. Oh, must we work today? On the upside, if your job involves the arts, peacemaking, philanthropy and other ways to make the world a kinder, more beautiful space, it may not feel like work at all. These lovely vibes will carry us through the following week.

Last, but far from least, a famous astrologer passed away this week: Joan Quigley, who consulted with the Reagans for several years starting in 1981. She wrote a fascinating book about that experience, “What Does Joan Say?” Here is her horoscope and an interesting interview that Salon published in 2000. Ms. Quigley was a Vassar grad and a pioneering Aries. I did not know until now that she was born on the same day as two other pioneering astrologers: Linda Goodman and Sydney Omarr. Coincidence or conspiracy? RIP.

Planetary patterns suggest more of the same from yesterday: a proactive Moon in “make-it-happen” Capricorn, aided and abetted by the rose-colored vision of mental Mercury in “pie-in-the-sky” Sagittarius, challenged by nebulous Neptune in empathetic Pisces. My favorite headline reflecting those patterns is this: a Dutch work program for alcoholics that pays participants — in beer. Also in the news: scientists testifying in Congress about how close they are to confirming life forms beyond our home planet. Plus this bewildering story about how the discovery of a 400,000 year-old thigh bone has challenged theories of human evolution.
Heads up to those born around an equinox or solstice…or if you have a planet or angle near 0 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn. You may be feeling exceptionally energetic or irritable. That’s because action hero Mars is fast approaching Libra, which is a highly provocative point in the zodiac. This transit is in effect over the next few days. The premiums are not outrageous, and the deductibles and benefits are much better than what I’m getting with my current health plan. Amazing! The New Moon in Pisces officially begins at 3:51PM ET, offering us an opportunity to re-set intentions and goals for the next lunar cycle. Next week will be about planting seeds to turn your intentions into reality. Around the 19th, on the First Quarter Moon, we can expect a challenge to those goals, with appropriate adjustments made. At the time of the Full Moon on the 27th, we can expect illumination on the success or failure of our goals for the cycle. If we succeeded, we can consciously release our success into our reality; if we failed, we let go of whatever did not work. After the Third Quarter Moon on April 3rd, we can review our achievements, tie up loose ends and get ready to begin another New Moon on April 10th.
A New Moon in Pisces suggests a need — or an opportunity — to access intangibles and share them for the benefit of something greater than the Self. Typical “intangibles” include film, intuition, music, faith and dreams. Pisces is a watery/emotional sign whose wisdom comes from an keen understanding of the longings, joys and sorrows we share in common. Pisces is known for its compassion and sensitivity to human suffering. You can learn a lot about Pisces energy by listening to the “Aquarium” section of Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saens or by just watching the ethereal, unified action in this clip from the Osaka Aquarium.
OK, so this New Moon has seven out of ten planets in a dreamy energetic Pisces flow. What’s in it for you? Well, first of all, it’s happening at 21 degrees of Pisces. So if you were born around the 11th of March, June, September or December…or have an angle or planet around 21 degrees of Pisces, Gemini, Virgo or Sagittarius, you’ll likely feel this New Moon more than most. If you don’t have a planet in any of those degrees, then look to see where 21 Pisces falls in your horoscope; that is the area of your life where a focus on dreams and other intangibles may pull focus.
The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon is “a prophet carrying tablets of the new law is walking down the slopes of Mount Sinai” – and it’s just loaded with helpful hints on what we can expect in this cycle. This is an image of someone who has had a “peak experience” — spiritually and physically — and he or she is bringing back to earth certain tangible guidelines that have been presumably channeled from the Divine. On the plus side, it suggests bringing your actions in line with a higher authority and/or relying on your intuition for guidance. On the down side, Sabian Symbol guru Blain Bovee notes the potential for “spiritually rationalizing one’s actions and authority” and “to pontificate from an out-of-touch vantage point”. Really, “pontificate”….just as a papal conclave has gathered to choose a new Pope. And they are waiting until after the New Moon officially kicks in (and with Mars at 0 Aries and the Moon in Aries on Tuesday, my sense is that it will not take long for them to make their decision). Think this story will dominate the news in this cycle? Coincidence or conspiracy?
Another important signature of this New Moon is Mars, planet of action at 29 degrees of Pisces — the very last degree of the zodiac. Mars is not a happy warrior in watery Pisces, but things are about to change because Mars enters Aries, the sign it rules, on Tuesday. From 0 to 60 MPH anyone? Mars is very comfortable with the pioneering, headstrong and often rash Aries fire. Not only that, but any planet at the beginning of Aries NEEDS to be prominent!
We should see some daring actions happening as of Tuesday, especially with the Moon in Aries on Tuesday as well. Today we are just on the verge….which is why it is so important that you become a clear channel and set your intentions in alignment with the highest good for ALL. Mars in Aries can be rash, and Mercury is still retrograde. Be careful on the roads, won’t you?
General note for the rest of the month: Mars (assertive, aggressive action) is hot, especially between the 19th and the 31st, as it makes contact with rebel Uranus and ruthless Pluto on either side of the Full Moon on the 27th. On the plus side, we should see some bold moves and breakthroughs — especially with Mercury moving forward on the 17th. On the down side, we may see some spectacular battles, outbursts and startling news from underground.
The Pisces New Moon goes void immediately at 3:51 PM ET today and enters Aries at 7:17 AM ET on Tuesday. Moon will also be void all day on Wednesday until 3:08PM ET on Thursday. Plan accordingly.

Whatever you’re doing today, consider slowing down. First, the Moon is in Pisces — a sign that likes to go with the flow. Second, Moon goes void-of-course at 9:43AM EDT…and doesn’t enter Aries until 7:16AM EDT on Saturday, April 2nd. Break time! Third, Mercury turned retrograde yesterday afternoon and you’ll need time to adjust to the seemingly backwards mental flow — unless you have Mercury retrograde in your birth chart; in your case, these retrograde periods may not be as disorienting. Fourth, we are in the dark side of the Moon — the end of a lunar cycle (New Moon on 4/4/11 in Aries — and it’s looking pretty darn potent). It’s time to wrap things up and get ready for the next round of excitement. So if you can, take a break over the next couple of days — planning an escape (in honor of the escapist Pisces Moon) is an excellent strategy for today and tomorrow.
Not that it’s likely to be quiet in the arena of world events. Mars, planet of action, is now at 29 degrees of Pisces — the end of the zodiac — and about to hit 0 Aries (the Aries Point) just after 12AM on Saturday (EDT), followed by the Moon in Aries at 7:12AM EDT. If you’ve been following this forecast, you’ll recall that many astrologers (myself included), wrote that a big shake-up was suggested when disruptive Uranus made a similar transition to 0 Aries on March 11. This weekend can anticipate more significant news from Japan and on the other shake-ups in progress — in the Middle East and in the continuing mishegosh of power plays and battles over draconian measures vs. freedom currently happening at all levels of government in the US — and in other areas of the globe that have yet to chime in.
Weird accidents also a possibility as Mars hooks up with erratic Uranus at 4:52PM EDT on Sunday — and so are technological breakthroughs, including startling news from the cosmos. Do be especially conscientious if you are on the road, and count to ten before you lose patience or your temper!
So, to recap: Thursday and Friday are days to chill if you can. Saturday is a noticeably different story: fiery, pioneering, combative — but also excitement about change and the potential for creating a whole new paradigm. We are supposed to be letting go of old patterns and embracing a new way of being at this stage of our collective soul; that’s what planets in Aries (Mars, Sun, Uranus, Mercury), Libra (Saturn) and Capricorn (Pluto) need to do. Hanging on for dear life to outmoded structures and resources will are strongly likely to make necessary transitions much harder than need be. OK, enough about world events and power plays. In your own personal world, there’s plenty to enjoy over the next few days — and including a weekend of potential fun, high-energy and innovation. WHAT IS A VOID-OF-COURSE MOON?
Here’s a visual for you: think of a pinball game. Last night at 6:38PM EDT 3/30/11, the Moon entered the sign of Pisces (imagine the moon as the pinball being launched into that sign). As the moon travels through a sign, it makes aspects to other planets (imagine the pinball making contact w/all the bumpers and stuff in the game; think of the dynamic way the pinball/moon moves after it makes contact). The LAST aspect the Moon makes before entering the next sign (this will happen at 9:43 AM EDT today when the Moon makes a contact with Pluto) is the time when the moon goes VOID.
Think of what happens to the pinball after it makes contact w/the last bumper before falling back down the board to be re-launched — it kinda loses steam, right? This is the kind of energy we have during the void, especially long ones (several hours or more). Sensitive types will notice a “floaty” feeling; it can be challenging to travel in a straight line during a void, and we are more likely to encounter curve balls and other twists. Clients call with crises that later turn out to be nothing. Lines of communication get crossed. Your waiter says “Good Morning!” and it’s four in the afternoon. You pour water over whole bean coffee — oops! You pick up the phone and it’s someone you’ve been trying to avoid. Details fall through the cracks; it’s important to double check everything — you get the idea.
Moon voids are good for a nap, sleeping in late, leaving work early, a creative brainstorm, writing music, meditating, doing yoga or doing things that are considered routine. I’ve tested this rule many times by breaking it, so now I avoid buying things (even on sale, because I find I just don’t use them), and I try to schedule important meetings and calls when the moon is NOT void.
There’s a higher “flake factor” during voids, too – people don’t show up for planned events. Other “twists” include upsets in sports matches (it’s a good time to bet on the underdog) and elections (the classic example is the presidential election on Nov 7, 2000 — Bush v. Gore — which happened during a Moon void AND when Mercury was stationary direct — talk about a set-up for errors and confusion). So during a void, sleep in…rest…try to take it easy until the Moon moves into the next sign. Of course there will be times when you’ve got some big thing scheduled during a Moon void — that’s just life. The key then is to be AWARE and flexible about whatever might come up that’s not what you’re trying to achieve; sometimes the twists can actually be beneficial (such as ones that come about during brainstorms).
