Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 2/4/2016

The boundary-pushing Moon in Sagittarius is challenged even further by contact with expansive Jupiter at 5:04AM ET. A big idea bogged down by details? Can’t see the forest for the trees? What wandering adventure will your mind embark upon, given that the Moon will be void thereafter until 7:44PM ET?

Regular readers know that Moon voids suggest a time to focus on routine concerns, while being prepared to roll with whatever twists and flakes deter your efforts to move forward in a straight line. I don’t know about you, but to me, time often feels like it flows more slowly during voids. Sometimes it feels downright meditative — an opportunity to seize if you’re a meditating type.

Moon voids suggest a higher probability of surprise upsets. Here’s an example. Did you hear about the grand jury in Texas that was supposed to investigate allegations that Planned Parenthood was illegally selling fetal tissue? Last Monday, when Mercury turned direct and the Moon was void all day, the grand jury cleared Planned Parenthood and instead indicted two of the people who made the undercover videos.  Surprise, surprise.

I’d argue that Mercury being supercharged by Pluto and Uranus a few days beforehand was also reflected in that grand jury decision. More on that in a minute.

At 7:44PM ET, Moon enters earthy Capricorn, looking to make things happen. Enough of the high-flying progressive ideas; the need is to get things done. Where have we heard that before?

And now, a bit of news.

Speaking of progressive and getting things done, how cool was it that the Sagittarius Moon was in harmony with futuristic Uranus at 7:58PM ET last night,  when Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders were making headlines by talking about those very subjects?

Over the past two weeks, Mercury supercharged by erratic Uranus and persuasive Pluto suggested the potential for seriously fringe thinking and dirt dug up. Add to this pattern a triple-dose of bombastic bewilderment, suggested by an obsessive-compulsive connection between nebulous Neptune and Jupiter. It was positively stupefying see  Rapper BoB’s insistence that the Earth is flat-out flat making headlines.

Jupiter also refers to law and lawyers. When in touch with Neptune, legal matters may be foggy or shady. Exhibit A concerns some undercover videos perhaps showing how some US lawyers might make it easier for clients wishing to make certain investments with “suspect funds”. Exhibit B would be the announcement last month of a crack down against foreign investors purchasing luxury Manhattan real estate with “dirty money”.

Neptune refers to viruses, water and poison. It refers to faith, empathy and charity. It refers to victims, suffering and the sublime. It refers to spirits of all kinds. It refers to music, film and other intangible arts. When Neptune is in touch with Jupiter, we see the potential for expansion in Neptunian concerns.

Dominant stories in the news in recent days include the poisoned water scandal in Flint, Michigan (and possibly other cities); the expanded reach of the Zika virus (including here in the U.S.). Shades of Neptune-Jupiter reflected therein, as well as in this item Avid Reader Paula sent me about the E.coli outbreaks (Neptune) plaguing Chipotle (Jupiter in Virgo — food), with extra-special allegations of especially underhanded activity. Frankly, every headline on the above-linked webpage reflects an arguably  obsessive Jupiter-Neptune theme!

Note the recent developments in the Zika virus story. We have a case of it being sexually transmitted in the U.S. The virus is especially harmful when contracted by pregnant women, and this may spark a new debate in Brazil, where abortion is illegal “under most circumstances”. It’s interesting to see these stories break during a week  in which sexy Mars (men) and Venus (women) are so supercharged. And how about this one that just hit the NYT homepage: “Pentagon to Offer Plan to Store Troops’ Eggs and Sperm”.

I know what you’re thinking. “What does all this have to do with Marco Rubio?” Absolutely nothing, but I’m now typing this in a Moon void. And Gail Collins has penned a cheerful opinion on the subject, so much ado, much ado. Enjoy!

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 1/4/2016: Sneak Peek at a Jam-Packed Week; President Obama, Right on Schedule

…and we’re off! The first work week of 2016 is jam-packed with planetary activity. I can’t imagine you’ll be bored. Here’s what’s cookin’ in the cosmos.

First, the energy of the day is driven by the Moon in moody Scorpio, silently scheming how it may best fulfill its need for emotional depth, substance and control.  Note your dreams this AM, as the Moon makes a harmonious connection to Neptune at 5:57AM ET. After that, the Moon cruises smoothly through the rest of the day. It makes two easy connections to the Sun and Pluto at 6:43PM ET and 8:59PM ET, respectively, facilitating empowered communication. Just do it…with the following caveats:

  1. The Moon goes void Tuesday at 12:47PM ET until Wednesday at 1:56AM ET, so ship it or pitch it before then. Moon voids are well-suited for focusing on routine concerns and rolling with any twists and flakes that may crop up in your efforts to move forward in a straight line. Such as? Such as the flake I experienced on Saturday after 11:23AM ET, when I poured hot water into my coffee cup instead of into the filter filled with actual coffee grounds. “Moon must be void,” I thought. It was. Which was also reflected in the twist experienced by subscribers to the Boston Globe on Sunday, when their papers were delivered by Globe reporters and other staff who had stayed up all night to do the task. I’m digging the Globe these days. Have you seen Spotlight yet? You must. It’s going to win a bunch of awards and it reflects current planetary patterns (Saturn in Sagittarius square Neptune in Pisces, for starters).  Anyhoo….
  2. Mercury will turn retrograde Tuesday at 8:06AM ET. BACK UP YOUR COMPUTERS NOW…and be prepared to triple-check everything before you hit send from now through the rest of the month. Here’s a recap of how to handle Mercury retrograde — which I’ll reprint here tomorrow, for those who don’t like to click on links.

There are five  other planetary patterns humming in the background, three of which are exact on Tuesday.  Pattern #1: Mercury (mind, communication) squares off against action hero Mars at 7AM ET Tuesday.  Let the record show that Mars entered Scorpio on Sunday morning ET. This suggests highly effective action — as in ruthless, laser-beam precision; take-no-prisoners strikes. Mars in Scorpio suggests intensity in matters of desire, which can be built all the way to Heaven or all the way to Hell. Downside: a temptation to indulge in vengeance, especially over petty grievances. Upside: a need to act with honor and integrity (even among thieves). Mars will be in Scorpio until March 5th, and again between May 28th and August 2nd — to be discussed in a future forecast.

Pattern #2 is a righteously opinionated and idealistic challenge between Venus (love, values, money, women) and visionary Neptune, exact at 9:34AM ET. This patterns suggests a rose-colored need for social expression which pushes boundaries. Pattern #3 would be the Sun in enterprising Capricorn meeting up with Pluto at 10:26PM ET on Tuesday. Talk about an opportunity for transformation and empowerment. We can expect the usual Plutonian subjects to make headlines, e.g., news from underground, power plays, stories of regeneration, resources, etc.

Meanwhile, here’s an apt reflection of the sum total of this week’s mind-blowing, empowering, technogeek, boundary-pushing, visionary and aesthetic potential: the NYT’s Sunday magazine cover story: “An Open Mind: the Terrible Beauty of Brain Surgery”.  Here’s another one: “How to Cultivate the Art of Serendipity”. Or this: “‘Like a Beautiful Painting‘:Image of New Year’s Mayhem in Manchester Goes Viral”.

Pattern #4 is a square between the Sun and rebel Uranus (exact on Thursday at 7:22AM ET), which usually reflects excitement, breakouts and breakthroughs and other disruptions of the status quo. Pattern #5 is a meet-up between Venus and Saturn, exact Friday at 11:11PM ET, which is about when we can expect a “Get REAL!” response to whatever dreamy vision was proposed under the influence of Neptune in the first part of this week — for better or for worse.

Oh but wait — there’s more! On Thursday, Jupiter turns retrograde. On Friday, Mercury backs up into Capricorn, where it will facilitate your efforts to put a practical spin on your plans until February 13th. On Saturday at 8:30PM ET, we’ll have a New Moon in Capricorn, suggesting an opportunity to re-set your intentions and plant potent seeds for the next lunar cycle. Details on those stories later this week.

And now, more news.

Mercury square Mars can be pretty darn confrontational — and Mars refers to guns. Venus square Neptune can be awfully idealistic, peace-loving, forgiving — or delusional. Sun conjunct Pluto and square Uranus can’t help but challenge the Powers That Be. Exhibit A: “Armed Group Vows to Continue Occupation at Oregon Refuge”:

BURNS, Ore. — The protesters arrived in this old lumber town to support a 73-year-old rancher and his son who had been sentenced to prison for setting fires that spread to federal lands. It was billed as a peaceful demonstration, but after “Amazing Grace” was sung and hugs were exchanged, a small, armed contingent declared outside a supermarket that it was taking a stand and asked who wanted to join.

So began the latest armed flare-up….

Meanwhile, “Battleground Shifts as Obama is Set to Act on Gun Control”. In other words, without the support of Congress. Last week he also acted alone in granting clemency to a handful of federal prisoners, in a “trickle of mercy” (proclaimed the editors of the NYT). I suspect we will see more than a trickle in the coming year. Glancing at President Obama’s horoscope it is interesting to note that  stationary retrograde Mercury and Jupiter are sitting right on top of his Jupiter and Mars, respectively. His mindset, actions and expansive reaches this week are especially significant. We would expect him to be thinking and acting big, with more to come. Interesting to note a Neptune-Venus measurement in effect in his horoscope, too. We would expect a need for an aesthetic ideal in matters of social expression and values.

Elsewhere, a volatile story in this volatile week is still developing: Saudi Arabia has cut diplomatic ties with Iran. Also volatile, but much more contained is the announcement that four new elements (all man-made and as-yet unnamed) have been discovered, thus completing the 7th row in the periodic table. Woo-hoo!

Stay tuned to this channel for continuing updates on these planetary patterns….and here’s the 411 on how to find out what it all means for you in a personal astrological consultation. REviewing your life is a perfect activity during a Mercury retrograde!

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 4/6/2015: Leonardo DiCaprio’s Perfect Timing; Sneak Peek at the Week

Good Morning!

The Moon is still in Scorpio, seeking to be someone or something of depth and significance. We’re still processing the fallout from Saturday’s Full Moon/Eclipse, as well as Sunday’s challenge between the Aries Sun and Pluto. Monday may coincide with a sudden jolt or other disruption of the status quo as the Sun and rebel Uranus meet-up at 10:08AM ET, adding to other jolts noted over the weekend.  As noted on Saturday, this electric buzz suggests a higher potential for news from underground (including seismic activity), rebellions, breakthroughs in technology or the cosmos, nuclear news and other power plays.

Mercury gets the most action of all the planets this week, starting with an easy flow from expansive Jupiter, exact at 9:26AM ET. Got a big idea to broadcast? On Tuesday, Mercury is squared by persuasive, perspicacious Pluto at 8:05PM ET.  On Wednesday, Mercury meets up with brilliant technogeek Uranus at 8:20AM ET. Just after midnight on Friday, Mercury meets up with the Sun in inspiring, pioneering Aries. Something new on the horizon for sure…and if you have a planet or angle around 15 Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn, you may sell have something to sell.

All of this sounds like a great time for the good folks working at the Large Hadron Collider to get back up to speed — and beyond — after the LHC went offline for a two-year retooling. Those good folks aim to “break physics” (so they said last month), and here’s the latest on what they hope to discover after they’re running at full throttle in May. Startling communications suggested by planetary patterns may not be such a great time for the editors at Rolling Stone, who published a retraction of its controversial story about a campus rape at UVA after a report written by the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism pronounced the story an epic fail.

Also in the limelight this week: Jupiter. The planet of expansion turns direct on Wednesday. If you know what area of your horoscope is ruled by Jupiter, it may feel like you’ve been in a holding pattern in that area since Jupiter turned retrograde at the end of last year.  A horoscope with Jupiter ruling the second house of finances and self worth, for example, may have experienced a delay in anticipated revenues.  With Jupiter turning direct, forward motion is now a potential. If you have a planet or angle around 12 degrees of just about any sign — but especially Leo — you are more personally affected by this expansive shift.  If you don’t know what degree and sign your Jupiter is in, consider spending $18 for an Astro-Basics Report — scroll down on this link here for more details.

Moon voids this week — natural cosmic rest periods best suited for chilling or taking care of routine matters — are as follows: Tuesday 4:42PM ET until 1:08AM ET on Wednesday; Thursday 1:42PM ET until 8:47AM ET on Friday.

And now, one more bit of news. At the end of December 2013 I wrote about the intriguing synastry between Woodrow Wilson and Leonardo Di Caprio, who had announced his intention to star in a biopic about Wilson. That all made perfect sense, though there have been no further announcements about that biopic since September 2013. Presumably a script is still in development.

However, given that Leonardo Di Caprio’s Moon is 15 degrees of Libra — and thus affected by the emancipating/empowering potential of Uranus, Pluto and the last two lunar eclipses at 14-15 Aries-Libra, it was expected that he would be doing something prominent at this time. Ready for it?

From the front page of Sunday’s NYT real-estate section:

In what may be his highest-impact leading role yet, the actor Leonardo DiCaprio, the Oscar-nominated “Wolf of Wall Street,” is planning to heal an island…

Actually, he’s planning to build an eco-resort on said island, which is off the coast of Belize. In Mr. DiCaprio’s horoscope his harmony and partnership-seeking Libra Moon rules the 10th house of career/reputation. It is in his 1st house, a highly entrepreneurial position, and it is squared by ambitious Saturn at 18 degrees Cancer. Not surprised to read about a supercharged real estate reach now, given how Uranus and Pluto have been stimulating this Moon-Saturn square. Cancer is concerned with home and nurturing; Saturn is a structuring energy and it rules Mr. DiCaprio’s 4th house which also refers to home and nurturing. This challenging project is reflected in his horoscope as a two-year period (through 2017) of extraordinary effort with much at stake.

Transiting Neptune is also strong in Mr. DiCaprio’s horoscope. Right now it is exactly conjunct his Jupiter at 8 Pisces, and square his natal Neptune at 8 Sagittarius. Neptune- Jupiter transits suggest amplified idealism. They also suggest a strong caveat in legal matters, as the glasses one wears when signing them may be a tad too rose. Mr. DiCaprio will be experiencing this transit through 2016.

On the other hand, Mr. DiCaprio’s horoscope is tremendously resourceful, suggested by three planets in Scorpio in the 2nd house: Sun-Venus and Mars. Scorpio can be a master strategist, and Mars in Scorpio can be highly effective. We also see Pluto in the 1st House, in contact with the Ascendant and the Midheaven, suggesting a relentless drive for prominence and accomplishment. There’s more, but you get the idea.

Also of note: Mr. DiCaprio’s  horoscope has no planets in Earth Signs, suggesting a potential lack of practicality — but the ability to think big. Some people with no Earth Signs compensate by delving into earthly concerns, including agriculture, cooking, nutrition and the environment — the latter of which is certainly true for Mr. DiCaprio.

To find out why you are the way you are — and how you can use awareness of planetary cycles to live your life better, consider scheduling a personal astro-logical consultation. You may not believe in astrology, but rest assured that astrology believes in you.

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 10/20/2010

Still more Neptune. You may recall a post a few weeks back in which I took a look at California gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman’s birth chart after a former housekeeper alleged that Whitman employed her without checking to see if the housekeeper had a work permit. This was a bit of a problem for Whitman, who apparently has taken a strong position against illegal immigration. Whitman’s chart revealed current challenges from Neptune, suggesting possible idealism, fantasy, escapism, fraud, deception, lies, transcendence, betrayal — you get the idea — and these challenges aren’t going away anytime soon.

Now it has been revealed that when a PR gal (image, illusion) for Whitman announced that the San Diego Sheriff’s Association had endorsed Whitman’s campaign on Monday, there was a typo in her Tweet, thus directing Twitterers to this YouTube video — think tulle, music, alien, intangible, twist, androgyny, rebellious, surreal — in other words a perfect manifestation of nebulous Neptune in the sign of Aquarius trine Mercury in Libra (beauty, balance) on a day with Moon in watery Pisces: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMWUYMWlEyo&fmt=18   Coincidence or conspiracy? Meanwhile, if any Japanese bass players reading this can tell us what the video is all about, do let us know…

NYers please note that the Moon is void from 6:25- 11:23AM NY time, possibly throwing a wrench into your morning agenda. Let things fall where they may, and definitely go with the flow, chill, brainstorm, focus on the routine; this afternoon the pace ramps up noticeably with the Moon’s entry into “Numero Uno” Aries….followed by Mercury (mind, communication) moving into cuts-like-a-knife Scorpio at 5:19PM NY. WARNING WARNING WARNING — if you are engaged in diplomatic talks, you might do well to choose your words with great care later today, as Moon in impulsive Aries and Venus, Mars — and now Mercury in Scorpio suggest that handling someone with kid gloves is not a top priority. This is also an advisement to restrain your urge to snap back if you happen to be on the receiving end of anyone who has temporarily forgotten their manners or lost their sanity…

Finally, a fabu connection between Mars (action) and expansive Jupiter suggests the potential for boundless enthusiasm (get thee to a gym) or utter bombast.
