Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 10/9/2015 & the Weekend: Mercury Direct; Meltdown in Congress

Note your dreams upon waking, as the Moon in Virgo — doing its best to put everything in order after a nearly 24-hour bender in rip-roarin’ Leo — is opposed by nebulous Neptune, nevertheless. Further confusing efforts to sort truth from fiction is mental Mercury at a standstill…but turning direct at 10:58AM ET. Do make a conscious effort to slooooooooooooooooooow down and FOCUS before flying off the handle around that time, as the persnickety Moon meets up with assertive Mars at 10:05AM ET. Somebody somewhere is likely to snap around then — and we’ll likely see it in the headlines.

A notable display of confidence and resources is likely to become apparent around 5:24 PM ET, as the Moon meets up with expansive Jupiter and trines potent Pluto at 6:12PM ET — hmmm, markets are up this morning. Then it goes void of course with a long sigh, suggesting we head for the nearest Happy Hour. What happens between Friday evening and Sunday AM is anyone’s guess, as the void will continue until 4:46AM ET. It’s a dead Moon, too, i.e., little light, which is perfect for planning actions in secret. And here I am imagining any number of back-room meetings around Capitol Hill, as the plot thickens….

For us ordinary mortals, chill Friday night and Saturday. Like I said earlier this week, an organizational project around the house would be a fine use of the Virgo need to sort it all out. Avoid the malls during the void; what you buy is not likely to be something you really need. Avoid turning a molehill into a mountain of crisis, especially in matters relating to business, women, arts and finances. I say this because taskmaster Saturn will square Venus at 8:31PM ET on Saturday. Not the most suggestive pattern for a casual fling, and even the most familiar of partnerships may feel chilly…or at least require at attitude of gravitas. You’ll feel the weight of Saturn-Venus more personally if you have a planet or angle around the first few degrees of Sagittarius, Gemini, Virgo or Pisces.  Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), that includes you.

On Sunday, power and resources with stunningly disruptive consequences are suggested, as Jupiter makes an easy connection to Pluto and the Libra Sun is opposed by rebel Uranus. Again I find myself thinking of deals made in back rooms with closed doors. Sure, the Moon will be in relationship-oriented Libra, seeking to win that high school popularity contest and be seen as fair and diplomatic….but still.

On Monday, we’ll continue in the dark of the Moon — with no Moon void for those who must head to the office. A dead Moon is often accompanied by a sense of restlessness or listlessness, as we intuitively sense the arrival of something new — if only it would hurry up and get here. Regardless, we can expect a power play or emotional catharsis around 7:19AM ET, as the Moon is squared by Pluto…followed by a disruption to the status quo around 6:20PM ET, as the Moon is opposed by Uranus. That disruption in matters of relationship, backed by the powerful thrust of Jupiter trine Pluto sets the tone for the New Moon that will kick in at 8:06PM ET. Make your list of intentions a good one.

And now, the news.

Are we having fun following the drama in the U.S. Congress this week? I confess I am having fun writing about it, as it is so in synch with what was expected, given planetary patterns. Astrology is amazing!

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past 24 hours, headlines are ablaze with the stunning news that the man who was supposedly a shoo-in to become the next Speaker of the House suddenly withdrew his name for consideration. Let the record show that we did expect the unexpected  — and no consequences (!) — from a Congressional meeting that was scheduled to take place during 1) Mercury stationary direct; 2) a Moon void of course — suggesting upsets (!); 3) the backdrop of the Sun’s challenging contacts with Uranus and Pluto, not to mention a bewildering and scandalous Mars-Neptune opposition.

The meeting in question was disrupted by the man’s sudden announcement. So much for the meeting — it was cancelled. If you were a member of Congress and you knew something about astrology, you would not have been all that surprised.

The man in question is  House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, whose disruptive Uranus transits were discussed here just over a week ago. What really prompted this surprise upset? Did McCarthy’s Benghazi “gaffe” do him in? Was it because Stephen Colbert followed Rachel Maddow’s lead and called attention to Mr. McCarthy’s bizarre usage of the English language — and CBS has many more viewers than Mr. Colbert’s former network, Comedy Central?  Was it because Dick Cheney endorsed Mr. McCarthy’s Speaker bid — was that the kiss of death? Or was it the rumors that have apparently been circulating for months — about a possible extramarital affair? Could that be more of a kiss of death than the parallel Mr. McCarthy’s way with words has with Mr. Cheney’s former boss?

With Mercury retrograde, we reserve final judgement on the rumored affair, even though it does reflect the potential for excited and risky social expression/attractions we’d expect with a Uranus transit to Venus, which is one of the Uranus transits Mr. McCarthy is experiencing.

But what in Heaven’s name is going on with the Republican Party? Surely we must see this bewildering meltdown in its horoscope. If we accept July 6, 1854 at 1:01PM in Jackson, MI as its “birth data”, we do see considerable stress on key angles and planets in the chart now and into next year. I wish I had time to write it up now, but it will have to wait.

Update: Also on the Hill, there was yet another hearing about Planned Parenthood, in which it was admitted that in last week’s Moon void hearing on the same subject, nothing of consequence was found. Said Jason Chaffetz — whom you may remember from earlier this week:

“Did I look at the finances and have a hearing specifically as to the revenue portion and how they spend? Yes. Was there any wrongdoing? I didn’t find any,”

He has vowed to continue the quest for more information, which is what was expected from the 114th Congress when I wrote about it a year ago.

Let’s see…any other disruptions to report? Yes. Scientists say they have digitally recreated part of a rat’s brain. The mayor of Rome just resigned in a scandal...see? It’s not just us. Elsewhere, Governor John Kasich (R-OH), who has seemed to be such a decent, level-headed man in the last two Republican debates, disrupted that perception with patronizing remarks to college women at UVA. Sigh.

One of my classmates from my days at Wellesley who reads my forecast emailed to ask what planetary patterns suggested about Vladimir Putin “sending in ground troops despite denials, and today bombing Syria with missiles from 1000 miles away from the Caspian Sea”. I wrote briefly about Mr.Putin’s horoscope a few days ago, noting that it suggested efforts at considerable empowerment now through the end of the year. However, in a thirty-second glance at basic horoscope data (we do not have a confirmed birth time), transits to hit natal Saturn from Pluto suggest extreme efforts at the risk of considerable loss. Today a headline reads, “Russia Will Pay Price for Syrian Airstrikes, Say US Defense Secretary”. I can see how that could happen.

Finally, because it’s time for me to post — and for you to stop reading about astrology in world events and start considering how this awareness can benefit you personally — here are two cool, timely stories. Venus is changing signs and back where it was when it stationed retrograde — and now it’s making headlines as a possible NASA “next visit”. And check out these supercool pictures of Pluto that hit the wires on Tuesday’s Sun-Pluto square.

Thank you for reading this forecast. Thank you especially to those of you who share it with friends. Will be back later this weekend with a forecast for Monday’s New Moon….will try to write about whatever other candidates for Speaker of the House emerge, too.

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday & Saturday 9/11-12/2015: Thoughts on Dead Moons; New Cycles & 9/11

I don’t know how this day has flown by so quickly, but I’ve had a lot on my mind and plate — too much to post a forecast. The Moon is now in Virgo, driven by a need for correctness, preferably delivered in the spirit of humble service, as opposed to neurotic nit-picking. It is the end of the lunar cycle, suggesting we may be feeling restless or listless, as we intuitively sense that a new cycle is about to begin, but we don’t know what it is. Plus, the New Moon is an eclipse. Plus, Mercury is slowing down — about to turn retrograde on the 17th. Plus, Jupiter (expansion) and Neptune (spirit, vision, blood, healing, fantasy, illusion, delusion, empathy, etc.), are almost exactly opposed — and this amplifies the potential for dreamy spacey wigginess, IMHO. See? Humble.

Today and Saturday are good for wrapping up old projects and contemplating what you want to REVIEW during the next lunar cycle. The review is brought to you by Mercury retrograde. So clear your desk, organize your files, clean up your diet and your house.

Meanwhile, it being September 11th, there are posts all over the web and images flooding the airwaves. Some posts are questioning the wisdom of approaching this day with a mindset of “Never Forget”. So I decided to re-post my forecast from September 12, 2012:

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 9/12/2012: Let It Shine

So yesterday was September 11th, and it was the 11th anniversary of an act of violence that stunned the world and resulted in the loss of thousands of lives. I couldn’t bring myself to acknowledge this in yesterday’s forecast because, frankly, I was living in New York on That Day. Then I noted someone on Facebook opining that on every September 11th since, all of America gets very patriotic, while New Yorkers just get somber and quiet. So I thought, “OK, I’ll post something.”  After all, the Moon was in Cancer (needing to focus on homeland/emotional security; America is a Cancer nation, etc.), and it was slowly approaching a square to serious Saturn, suggesting a need for gravitas.

Here’s what I wrote:

What I remember about That Day was how quiet the city became in the aftermath. We gathered at night in public places, needing the support of community. We gave up our defensive edges. We slowed down. Drivers did not honk their horns. With whomever we met in the course of the day, we would take the time to look into each others’ eyes and ask, with heartfelt sincerity, “how are you”?

We approached each other with such loving kindness — back then — perhaps because we were all so conscious of our collective shock and grief. Everyone seemed to know someone who knew someone who had died…or was at Ground Zero and escaped, covered in ash…or was supposed to be there, but Fate intervened, and they missed their train or their appointment in the city was canceled or whatever. Point is, we all had a story to tell…and a connection to this experience that connected us to each other. We were able to see ourselves in each other.

Time passes…it heals wounds…and we forget. And often, we forget the connection. Separation — which is an illusion — creeps back in. It’s us against them. We racing to get here, there, everywhere. We get impatient with each other and start honking our horns again…or worse. And yes, I do have a thing against people who honk their horns and I have a byline to prove it — in the New York Times, no less  — how cool is that? Point is, we are still sharing the same human experience — in a Big Picture, yet profoundly simple way. Even though we may forget.

These thoughts led me to decide as my tribute to 9/11,  I would pretend to be an exalted human being — and try to act accordingly — during the course of my errands in the city. That meant taking the time to consciously assess whomever I  engaged and imagining myself in their position before promoting my own agenda.

The employee behind the counter at Pret A Manger, for example, was a 20-something man with a wonderfully grounded, friendly intelligence. I thought about where he was at in his life — working behind a counter for probably not much more than minimum wage — and I wondered what his dreams might be at this nascent stage of his career. And as we were discussing the comparative merits of the caffeinated beverages offered at this fine establishment, I found myself telling him what a great job he was doing, and that I was certain his attitude and attentive presence would take him very far in life. I put my two dollars on the counter to pay for my coffee (decided not to spring for the cappuccino), and darned if he didn’t say, “It’s on the house”.

What a delightful surprise. What a lovely connection.

And what, pray tell, does this have to do with anything astro-logical?  How about this: with today’s Moon in playful, regal, sunny Leo, you are encouraged to let your light shine! Practice senseless acts of beauty and acts of random kindness. Remember, that was the challenge presented at the beginning of this lunar cycle — the New Moon was in Leo on Aug 17th, right? Show the world the results of your intention. Shine! You’ll be aided by lovely connections to the Moon from loving Venus and electric Uranus,  ’round about lunchtime on the East Coast. You’ll be helped even more by another lovely connection between Venus and Uranus, suggesting you expand your networks and allow yourself to be open to encounters that are delightfully unconventional and unusual…based on the simple premise that we are all on the same ride in the big scheme of things. That stranger on the bus could be your new best friend, even if it’s just for the few minutes you share until you arrive at your stop.

And look…here’s a song to inspire you…so many versions to choose from. Take your pick of Odetta, the Boss or the Templet Family Band. A tough choice, for sure.OMG, here’s Brenda Lee, too.  The Odetta version opens with a passage written by Marianne Williamson that may give you chills….and…oh wow. Apparently Odetta sang this song(with the Harlem Boys Choir) on the first Letterman show after 9/11. I did not know that…until now.

And for now I’ve made a note to act as if I am an exalted human being: kind, considerate, humble and service-oriented in my efforts to make things right — at least through these next couple of days driven by a Virgo Moon.

Thank you for reading this forecast.

Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 3/26/2013: Order in the Court

Chag Pesach Semeach!

Such an appropriate week to be celebrating liberation from slavery, given the focus on freedom and independence in current planetary patterns. Even the Obamas hosted a seder, which apparently they’ve done every year since 2008. Who knew?

As reported yesterday, there are no lunar aspects today. Moon is still in Virgo and still void. Does your desk need to be cleaned? Got a closet that needs to be organized? Such tasks can be richly rewarding, and there’s plenty of high-octane energy to attack such projects, with willful Mars in a supportive connection with expansive Jupiter, exact at 6:27AM ET. An early morning workout isn’t a bad idea, either. Really, find a constructive way to blow off some steam.

With the Moon waxing full,  so are emotions. In Virgo, the need to be correct is paramount. Who’s finding fault with you now? Try not to take it personally,  and choose your battles verrrrry carefully. If you’re really on the side of the angels, stand your ground and push for a breakthrough. If not, let it go. Many will be noticing more than the usual stress in relationships this week. See yesterday’s forecast for those most likely to be affected.

Moon enters Libra at 5:32PM ET, shifting the focus from perfection to fairness and integrity in relationship…which could be a challenge, given ruthless Pluto squaring aggressive Mars just before midnight ET. Well, at least you will know where you stand…

All of the above make an intriguing backdrop for two major cases to be argued before the Supreme Court today and tomorrow — both involving freedom and equality in relationship; i.e. same-sex marriage. Here’s a historical perspective on the issue — and you’ll note that the article gives 1969 as the start of the gay rights movement. Yes, 1969 — shortly after the Uranus-Pluto conjunction that reflected so much revolution around the globe…and here we are now, with the Uranus-Pluto square.  Astro-logical patterns suggest this is the time to move forward, not backward.

While many are saying that Justice Kennedy will be the decisive vote in a possible 5-4 decision, Justice Antonin Scalia has also been getting press, as some wonder how he will behave as the arguments are presented. Scalia’s horoscope is under pressure  from Mars and the Uranus-Pluto square — specifically, a point that refers to dealings with the public (and how he needs to evolve in this lifetime). Still another point that refers to the potential for combat in relationships is highlighted this week, as follows: “energy helping or upsetting relationship; sexual awareness in partnership; drive for fulfillment” (astrologer Noel Tyl, describing aggressive Mars on the Sun/Moon midpoint). Coincidence or conspiracy?

Meanwhile, an avid reader shared a surreal conversation that happened yesterday, during the Moon void. And you wonder why people ask “Is Mercury retrograde?” during voids…

Calling AT&T tech support this morning, including half hour of hold time…
Me: “Good morning, one of our tv receivers seems to be broken, making a loud buzzing sound and picture is freezing.”
AT&T: “Are you calling about your phone, internet or tv?”
Me: “(see above)”
AT&T: “What seems to be the problem?”
Me: “(see above)”
AT&T: “Your receiver appears to be broken.”
Me: “!”
AT&T: “Please return it in the box provided within 10 days.”
Me: “What box?”
AT&T: “The box the new one comes in. You will be receiving this in 24-48 days.”
Me: “Days?”
AT&T: “Yes, 24-48 hours. Thank you for calling AT&T.”

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 1/2/2013: Happy ’13!

…and a very Happy New Year, to YOU!

If you’re heading back to the office, you can move with efficiency and attention to detail, courtesy of the Moon in Virgo. Two supportive connections to potent Pluto and disciplined Saturn around 6:30AM ET can push you forward with depth, emotional connection and practical application. A harmonious connection between the earthy Sun in Capricorn and the Virgo Moon is the icing on the cake, only without the sugar crash.

There’s a buzz in the air regarding communication, travel and mindset, courtesy of mental Mercury about to be challenged by the ongoing Uranus-Pluto square (exact Thursday AM and Sunday AM). Talk of rebellion, innovation, revelation, transformation, power plays, resources, corruption exposed and moving beyond borders will likely be front and center in the headlines. You are personally affected by this aspect if you have an angle or planet between 4 and 11 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn.

If you have to get something out the door, do it today or Friday. The Moon will be void-of-course from 7:15AM ET to 8:11PM ET on Thursday, so one thing you will want to avoid doing is having the first session of the 113th Congress convene on that…oh…(long pause)…never mind. It’s already on their calendar for 12PM in Washington DC. (cue sound of head banging on wall now). Sigh. More on the significance of that event in tomorrow’s forecast. Apparently there is a silver lining…

So. What do planetary patterns suggest for 2013, and what does it mean to you? I will tell you over the next few days in detailed discussions of the following:

  • Uranus in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn
  • Neptune in Pisces
  • Saturn in Scorpio
  • Jupiter in Gemini and Cancer

Right now I would like to share a little New Year’s Eve story. For some reason during the void-of-course Moon in Leo on Monday, I was inspired to shred all the receipts from 2000-2005 that I’d carefully organized in accordion files — one for each year.  Apparently you don’t have to keep these files for more than seven years, and I really wanted to create some space in my storage closet. Now as you know, Moon voids suggest a surprise twist or delay in project undertaken during such times. And boy was I surprised to discover — in the file for 2003– three friends from the Stone People Family.Really, who keeps rocks and crystals in their tax receipt files, especially a folder labelled “Office Supplies”.

First:  a large amethyst crystal that fits with perfection in the palm of my hand. I don’t remember how this came into my possession, only that I got it decades ago and obviously had not seen it since 2003. Amethysts are associated with psychic ability. Second: a heart made of rose quartz, which is associated with love. No idea where that stone came from. Third: a small beige-brown stone — perhaps jasper (good for grounding) — upon which is inscribed, “Believe”.  No idea where that came from, either. Any of you psychics out there have a clue?

Such a precious New Year’s gift had to be shared with others. My wish for you, dear Reader, is that you may be blessed with the power of intuition (amethyst), love to heal a broken heart (rose quartz) and faith that stems from a solid foundation (jasper). May these carry through 2013 and always!

And yes, yes, YES…I realize yesterday was a holiday and some of you were still recovering from TMC (too much champagne). So if you’d like to take advantage of my super amazing holiday special (at a perfectly fabulous price), the offer is still valid through today…with gratitude to those of you who asked. Besides, I do not want you to feel like you’re having a day like the two dinosaurs in this very clever cartoon…

Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 12/6/2012: Perfection in Action

An expansive challenge to the Virgo Moon’s need for perfection during the wee hours (3:04AM ET) sets the mood upon waking. Thinking big, acting big, dreaming big…and hopefully based on reality as opposed to the potential fantasy suggested by the approaching challenge between mental Mercury and nebulous Neptune that was mentioned yesterday. Action is what we are likely to see around 10:31AM ET, when Moon is strongly supported by aggressive Mars AND a square to the Sun. The latter is the 3rd Quarter Moon, which  suggests a dynamic manifestation related to the intentions set at the New Moon. You may spend the rest of the day sorting it all out.

Get it off your desk today if you can, as the Moon will be void Friday between 5:35AM ET and 1:35PM ET. Oohh, perhaps you can sleep in without fear of repercussions…

Meanwhile, you’ll be pleased to learn that my call to the phone company requesting compensation for Tuesday night’s internet service outage resulted in a $17.50 credit from said phone company. It is amazing what can be yours if you are bold enough to ask.

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 12/5/2012: Make It So!

I blame last night’s void-of-course Moon for doing screwy things with my internet service; hence, this delayed forecast. With the Moon now in perfectionist Virgo as of 6:51AM ET, you better believe that after this is posted and I consult with clients who have seized the day on my Special Holiday One-Hour Consultation (the perfect gift for everyone on your list, including yourself), I will be calling my phone company to demand reimbursement for the lapse in service. I share this with you because I have found that phone companies are quite willing to offer credit in such cases, and I bet many of you don’t even think to ask. And I have ideas about how you could spend those considerable savings, too. You’re welcome!

Did you note your dreams last night? An opposition to Moon from nebulous Neptune at 7:52AM ET may have sparked your REM stages with especially sublime messages, which may intensify over the next few days as mental Mercury approaches a challenge from Neptune on December 11th. And that Mercury-Neptune contact is the next exact aspect among the planets other than the fast-moving Moon (which isn’t technically a planet, of course; but is often referred to as such when speaking generally about the players in the horoscope). Yup, the first three weeks of December are relatively quiet in the cosmos. But don’t worry — that will change!

Take advantage of the constructive efficiency of a sextile between Moon and disciplined Saturn and a trine between Moon and potent Pluto that will build in strength in the late afternoon and early evening hours. These will aid you in your Virgo Moon-inspired quest to make things correct with laser-beam precision.

To be continued…

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 4/4/2012: Mercury Turns Direct

Mercury turns at direct at 23 degrees of Pisces as of 6:11AM ET, suggesting that great ideas that were put on hold may once again move forward. But don’t rush to sign on the dotted line until you’ve carefully reviewed that proposal on your desk. So often, when Mercury (mind, communication and travel),  moves forward, we find that what we thought were solid concepts have more than a few holes. What was that mantra you were given a few days ago? Focus, focus, focus and patience, patience, patience — especially with the details.  Give yourself until the 23rd to get your brain fully up to speed.

The day itself may be defined by the Moon in Virgo’s need for perfection, especially the perfection of a (romantic) ideal – or perfect organization. Check out yesterday’s notes on nebulous Neptune’s challenge to loving Venus, which will be exact on Thursday, as we are under the influence of this rose-colored pattern right now. Here’s to rarefied art, matters of spirits and other dreams that may be too good to be true, but delicious and delectable while they last.

Astro-logical Forecast for Sunday & Monday 2/19-20/2012: Sneak Peek at the New Moon; A Nun’s Story

Networking, friendships, being of social significance, space cadets, a cerebral/scientific approach to emotions, freedom and independence — look for these themes to pull focus for the next two and a half days. Moon enters the humanitarian sign of Aquarius at 5:28AM ET, old buddy, old pal. Deal with whatever wet blanket or serious focus that may be required around 4:22AM ET, when Moon is challenged by Saturn (I’ll deal with this one in my dreams, and you can, too).

We are in the dark side of the Moon; the New Moon in Pisces is at 5:35PM ET on Tuesday.  That’s the time to light a candle and focus on your intentions for the next lunar cycle. Meanwhile, if you’re a meditative soul — or even if you’re not — take some time to tune in before Tuesday. What does your intuition tell you? A big clue to the theme of New Moon in Pisces is the Sun’s annual hook-up with nebulous Neptune — also in Pisces —  at 3:42PM ET on Sunday, combined with an  indulgent challenge to the Moon from expansive Jupiter. Note these keywords: soulful surrender, meditate, yoga, escape, intuition, fantasy, drugs, alcohol, go with the flow, bewilderment, illusion, deception, delusion, photography, film, higher realms, oil, oceans, sacrifice, empathy. It all spills over into Monday, too — sweetened by a connection between loving Venus and the Moon at 7:28AM ET that can carry you through the whole day.

Signs of nebulous Neptune on the NY Times homepage include an op-ed about drinking and drugging http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/19/opinion/sunday/bruni-whitney-houston-and-alcohols-toll.html?hp rising oil and gas prices, the “parade of stars and fans” paying tribute to Whitney Houston; and a gem of a column by Maureen Dowd about a former Hollywood starlet who became a nun — and who will be attending the Oscars next weekend because a documentary about her called “God Is Bigger Than Elvis” has been nominated. Talk about a Sun conjunct Neptune in Pisces story! Read how Dolores Hart left Hollywood for the cloister here http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/19/opinion/sunday/dowd-where-the-boys-arent.html?hp  and here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolores_Hart

Since we looked at Cardinal Timothy Dolan’s horoscope in the last post, I thought it would be interesting to look (briefly)  at the horoscope of this former starlet-turned-nun. Will we see similar patterns?

Dolores Hart was born October 20, 1938 (time unknown) in Chicago, IL  She’s a Libra with Moon in Virgo, suggesting a need to be discerning, exacting and perfecting. Like Cardinal Dolan, there is a connection between Jupiter and Neptune — a reliable signal of the importance of spirit. The Jupiter-Neptune connection is not as big and bold as the pattern in Cardinal Dolan’s chart, but it’s definitely there; and Neptune is still very strong in other ways. Charisma — and the potential for glamour is suggested by a hook-up between Neptune and Mars; it’s likely that Neptune is also involved with the Virgo Moon, which adds idealism and the intangible to that need to be discerning, exacting and perfecting. Also of note: Saturn, suggesting discipline, patriarchy, authority, control, structure, ambition — making a strong statement about a potential obsession with the father…which perhaps evolved into the Father…or perhaps the Mother Superior. Hmmmmmm…. Also found in Dolan’s chart and Hart’s: strong connections between the Sun and expansive, sunny, philosophical Jupiter and resourceful, empowering Pluto. Let the record show that Hart is in fact the Reverend Mother Dolores Hart and Prioress of the Abbey (since 2001) where she resides. And as Maureen Dowd and Wikipedia both note, the Reverend Mother remains a voting member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Powerful!

Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 2/9/2012: Surprise!

Moon in Virgo (continuing from yesterday) suggests a need for organization, perfection and hammering out — or just tending to — the details. Go as deep as you like in that arena — especially if the details involve resources, and see what you discover.

At 9:30PM ET, as noted yesterday, rebel Uranus disrupts the status quo of Venus (money, beauty, art, social expression, women….) in pioneering, inspiring, risk-taking Aries. That certainly suggests excitement, followed and/or along with a passionate release of perfectionist energy — suggested by Moon in Virgo hooking up with aggressive Mars just after midnight. Are you going out tonight? What will rock your world?

Several times yesterday I heard traders and reporters on CNBC say they felt the markets were due for a “surprise” — to the upside or the down  side; it didn’t matter which; that’s what they were expecting. Given the forecast written yesterday, you can imagine how delightful that was to hear! Will we see a financial surprise in the headlines? We really should, especially with this aspect making contact with Venus (money, markets) in the horoscope of the United States.  And looky what’s on the front page of the New York Times as I type: “Surplus Surprises Michigan, But Is It Safe to Spend Again?”  http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/09/us/surplus-surprises-michigan-but-is-it-safe-to-spend-again.html?hp  And perhaps a reported $26 billion dollar settlement for homeowners (possibly finalized today) also qualifies http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/09/business/states-negotiate-25-billion-deal-for-homeowners.html?hp

In other news, here’s another surprising aesthetic combo making headlines — the bacon milkshake — it’s weird, it’s wacky — it’s so Venus conjunct Uranus. And like many sudden attractions that spring up during this pattern, it likely will not have legs. Do you dare try it? Oh, why not?  http://video.cnbc.com/gallery/?video=3000072081

To be continued…

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 2/8/2012: Venus in Aries: More on Mitt & Rick

Process whatever emotional fallout remains from yesterday’s big, bold Full Moon in Leo while the Moon wraps up its sojourn in Leo this morning. You’ll have plenty of grounded energy to work with, suggested by a steady connection from Moon to sober Saturn, exact at 11:42AM ET. Then, after a brief Moon Void (blink and you’ll miss it), Moon returns to earth at 12:32PM ET, when it enters Virgo (an earth sign) and is challenged by nebulous Neptune at 12:52PM ET.

On the plus side, this combination of practicality and attention to detail (the Saturn influence and Moon in Virgo), along with the inspiration suggested by Neptune can facilitate most excellent progress in bringing intangible ideas into tangible form. Toward the end of the day and into the evening, enthusiasm and resources for creating tangible forms will likely be evident, as the Moon moves into harmonious connections with Jupiter (expansion) and Pluto (resources). All eyes are on the markets right now — will we reach a new high? Given the supportive planetary patterns that have been active in the horoscope of the United States for the past few months (involving the aforementioned Jupiter and Pluto), it seems likely…though I can’t rule out a possible surprise or upset when Uranus, disruptor of the status quo, makes an exact aspect with US’s Venus (which relates to finances) later this month. Perhaps a surprise to the upside…

Speaking of Venus, the planet of money, beauty and social expression entered Aries this morning at 1:01AM ET — and won’t that be wonderful for Rick Santorum, who has Venus at 5 degrees of Aries (yes, it will be wonderful — for Santorum and others with planets in early Aries). Santorum, in case you hadn’t heard, was declared the winner in the Republican primaries of Minnesota, Missouri and Colorado last night http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/08/us/politics/minnesota-colorado-missouri-caucuses.html?hp  But this should come as no surprise to readers of this forecast, who were briefed on planetary patterns consistent with Santorum’s sudden surge in popularity vs. the Neptunian fog affecting Mitt Romney’s personal projection in earlier posts (search the archives for the details). That fog in Mitt’s horoscope is here to stay for the rest of the year; managing it successfully will likely continue to be challenging.

Venus is Aries is a bit of a flirt, frankly. It needs a much more personal and passionate expression than…say…Venus in “I love you but don’t take it personally” Aquarius (Mitt has that placement; Venus in Aquarius wants to be your best friend, not necessarily your lover. For this, it is often accused of being somewhat cool and detached). Venus in Aries right now should spice up our social interactions for the rest of the month and inspire you to connect with new people. This week you may even connect with some weird, wacky people, suggested by a hook-up between Venus and rebel Uranus that is exact tomorrow at 9:30PM ET. Get out and mingle over the next few days; the experience could be just the breath of fresh air you’ve been looking for.
