More of the same enterprising, “make it happen” energy from yesterday, with the caveat being that the Capricorn Moon goes void of course at 11:47AM ET, on a combative connection from action-oriented Mars. Translation: there’s the potential for a strong assertion of willpower (upside), that may provoke conflict (downside, but perhaps necessary). During the long Moon void (until 11:33PM ET), remember that making mountains out of molehills is a common response to the energetic shift from fourth gear (Moon engaged) to a wandering drift (Moon void). Chill, chill, CHILL! This is the last day before a New Moon; something fresh is just around the corner. Take care of what is routine, take time to take a break; go with the flow of a 12-hour window that may feel like you’re herding cats.
Meanwhile, the news. Regarding the State of the Union speech, I have been, thrilled, thrilled, thrilled to note the headlines in the New York Times: “Expecting Obstruction, Obama Charts an Independent Path” or “Obama Vows to Act Alone on the Economy”. Why? Because of what I wrote about his second term a year ago, that’s why — as well as our “do-nothing” Moon-void 113th Congress:
Speaking of Obama, Sunday marks the beginning of his second term. He’ll be sworn in at noon, as specified by our Constitution. And though he’ll be doing it all over again on Monday in a public ceremony, for me the swearing-in on Sunday is the one that sticks. In the chart for noon in DC on the 20th, I am relieved to see the Moon NOT void of course in Taurus, suggesting that it may actually function effectively. In Taurus, this suggests a reigning need to preserve and maintain material security, to keep things as they are or as they should be. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t expect a battle, as the Moon is squared by aggressive Mars in Aquarius, suggesting heated and stubborn challenges from the rebel factions. This is likely to be a term of office noted for idealistic, expansive and innovative ideas. And yes, I do believe we’ll see the President operating more independently than in his last term, as the Moon is placed in the 1st house, suggesting, as astrologer Noel Tyl defines it, an entrepreneurial “do your own thing” approach.
How does this chart compare with chart for the start of the 113th Congress? Interestingly, in that chart the Virgo Moon IS void-of-course — and running wild! This suggests a concern with details, organization and discernment that runs away with the whole chart — and, given the void, is likely to be ineffective or at least of no consequence. Hmmm. Perhaps the President will have the upper hand. Also notable is nebulous Neptune running wild, suggesting that elements of vision, idealism, delusion, deception, spirits of all kinds and artistry will be all over this legislative body like a cheap suit. When NY Times columnist Maureen Dowd wrote about the first day of 113th Congress, she called it a “surreal world”. Yep. That’s Neptune running wild…
Last week I posted a bit about how Obama is likely feeling a need for a more prominent expression of nebulous Neptune energy, y’know — like a vision. Potential expressions of Neptune — for anyone, not just Obama — include: ego wipeout, surrender, rarefied art, music, film, photography, idealism, fantasy, healing, spirit, spirits, drugs, deception and/or this one — SAVIOR. I wonder about that last one, as President Obama is now resolved to go it alone.
Meanwhile, who saw Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), perch on her dainty lady sofa and project “a hopeful Republican vision” (the Republican rebuttal to the President’s SOTU), whilst waxing rhapsodic about her personal manifestation of a dream come true? If you read about her horoscope in yesterday’s forecast, you weren’t surprised by all this Neptune Neptune Neptune rose-colored pep talk. Random observation: men have desks. Women have sofas. Just ask Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Ellen DeGeneres and Oprah Winfrey. “I wonder why that is,” she mused rhetorically…

As of 9:18PM ET on Wednesday, Moon charged into the fiery sign of Aries. This pioneering, inspiring, me-me-me, let’s-get-it-done-yesterday energy is a dramatic shift from the watery, go-with-the-flow-that’s-going-nowhere-in-particular energy of the void-of-course Moon in Pisces we experienced for 18 hours yesterday. I heard plenty of stories of people sleeping late, wandering around and/or flaking out. I also heard stories of some who were frustrated because their efforts to move forward in a straight line felt a lot like herding cats.
Today you can charge forward with intense focus, with a couple of caveats. First, emotional energy is running high, as reflected by the Moon waxing full tomorrow at 7:38PM ET. So try not to run over everyone’s toes in your rush to move ahead. The Moon will make its weekly engagement with the disruptive Uranus-Pluto square between 1:36PM ET and 3:01PM ET, so some may experience a shock, revelation or emotional power play. Second, mental Mercury turns retrograde on Monday, so know that some of what is accomplished may be up for review and/or delayed implementation during the three week retrograde period (Mercury turns direct November 10th). Third, as noted in prior forecasts, a challenge between aggressive Mars and nebulous Neptune (exact late Saturday), suggests plenty of pixie dust, and thus the potential for magic and miracles…or illusions and delusions that lead to disappointment.
Towards the end of the business day, a lovely alignment between Venus and the Moon smooths ruffled feathers and offers potential for a pleasant evening, leading to indulgent expansion as the morning approaches. Woo-hoo!
And now, the news. Had I taken the time to actually type up the forecast that was in my head in yesterday’s Moon void, I would have written that any freakout over the debt ceiling deadline was likely “much ado about nothing”, and that a deal would get done before everything hit the fan. Why? Because although planetary patterns are volatile now, they get really intense in the horoscope of the United States in 2014. It’s just too soon for the wheels to come flying off the bus. Plus, as noted in the forecast for Obama’s second term, it is suggested that the President can prevail in any stubborn impasse with this equally stubborn, but petty, misguided, health insurance-obsessed and ineffective 113th Congress.
Even more important: the re-opening of the government and the raising of the debt ceiling lasts only until January 15th and February 7th, respectively. That’s good news for corporations worried about consumer spending and profit margins during the holiday season, as Gail Collins implies in her usual irreverent style. The bad news is that we’re set up for another round of insanity after the first of the year. So here’s another piece of good news — about the increasing power and influence of certain women in the U.S. Senate. Check out this article about how Susan Collins (R-ME) spearheaded a cooperative effort that led to a Senate deal to end the shutdown. You go, girl! Did I mention that the early part of this week featured a lovely alignment between Venus and rebel Uranus, suggesting the potential for news of innovative women and unconventional social expression?
Finally, just because it is cool: a post-script to last week’s artistic challenge between Venus (social expression) and Neptune (music): “Is Music the Key to Success?”
Arise, go forth and practice those scales…
Rise and shine! The work week begins with an awesome potential for profound realization and gravitas, suggested by the sobering, disciplined, reality check between serious Saturn (Father Time) and mental Mercury, exact in penetrating Scorpio on Tuesday at 3:39PM ET. Deep thoughts coupled with controlling passion are also suggested by today’s Scorpio Moon. Not a bad day for planning strategy, organizing resources and going way beneath the surface for the knowledge you seek. Get your New Moon agenda off the ground.
The emotional intensity could be softened by an easy connection between the Moon and expansive Jupiter around lunchtime on the East Coast, but the real lift arrives at 1:54PM ET. That’s when Venus (social expression) breathes a huge sigh of relief and leaves the moody, controlling clutches of Scorpio for a rowdy roll in the hay in high-flying, fiery Sagittarius. Wheeee! You may notice this immediately, as those around you suddenly have no trouble letting you know exactly how they feel — and if a few feet end up in a few mouths, well — what’s life without a few gambles or gambols. Really, ask any Sagittarius.
Your Moon void periods for the week — not a time to ship or sign anything you wish to be of consequence — won’t interfere too much with regular business hours in the Americas. Here they are: Tuesday 12:54AM – 8:21AM ET; Thursday 6:11AM ET – 11:17AM ET; Friday 8:04PM ET – Saturday 2PM ET. Use those periods to take a break from the usual Type A determination to move forward in a straight line. This does NOT mean you should do nothing, though that can be productive. It simply suggests that Type A efforts are more likely than usual to experience twists and delays — so just roll with them.
And now, the news. Last week’s New Moon suggested considerable volatility, and the weather has certainly been accommodating. Blizzards in the Midwest, typhoons in China; hail expected perhaps in the Northeast. I’m sure I’m leaving stuff out. Also as anticipated, some major dirt — about the current U. S. government shutdown — was dumped on the front page of Sunday’s New York Times: “A Federal Budget Crisis Months in the Planning” Yes, that’s right — planning. And this inspired me to look back to January’s forecasts for what we could expect in Obama’s second term — check out the fourth and fifth paragraphs in this prior post. How are we doing? Meanwhile, as we would also expect to see, given current planetary patterns (disruptive Uranus-Pluto square; Saturn and Mercury conjunct in Scorpio), there’s nothing but “deep” on the docket of the Supreme Court — check out what they’ll be ruling on as the new term begins. And how cool was it that a movie called “Gravity” is number one at the box office this weekend?
Back to planetary patterns suggesting major dirt: this perfectly-timed NYT op-ed discusses the impact the sudden exposure of closely-guarded facts may have in your own personal world. It may come in handy by the end of next week, when a potentially bewildering face-off between aggressive Mars and nebulous Neptune is added to the mix of a Full Moon and lunar eclipse. However surreal the headlines may be, I’d like to believe that if you’re reading this post, you’re one of the souls who signed up to be a beacon of light in the chaos.
