“I can't thank you enough for the incredible adventure in astrology. You have that rare gift that certainly all who call themselves astrologers don't possess... you're the real deal!! It seriously blew me away that you were able to not only nail so much from my past (exact times/years certain events took place, along with situations with family, relationships and beyond) but you've already helped with my present! The answers you gave to the specific questions I asked pertaining to important career-related happenings this week have already proven true. I will look forward to an update in a year or so.”

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday & Thursday 10/14-15/2015: Sneak Peek at Tuesday’s Democratic Debate

Posting Wednesday’s forecast earlier than usual so as to share a few thoughts about Tuesday’s Democratic debate. Right now the Libra Moon is void. It enters Scorpio at 5:38PM ET.

First, for Wednesday. Put the Scorpio Moon to good use. It’s strategically-minded, and is interested in more than the usual fluffy cocktail party chit-chat. Use its need for depth, along with the cooperative support from detail-focused Mars (assertion), Pluto (power; perspective) and Jupiter (expansion), to carry you through the business day. All of those supportive connections are boosted even more by an easy flow between action hero Mars and Pluto, exact Thursday at 11:31PM ET. Perhaps you have more energy and resources than you thought. Access them. What have you got to lose?

At 8:58PM ET on Wednesday, the Moon goes void until 5:18AM ET on FRIDAY. So if you want to hit your target on the first try, Wednesday’s patterns are more focused than Thursday, when the Moon void suggests a higher probability of twists, flakes and upsets in your efforts to move forward in a straight line. During Moon voids you may need an extra push to get you going anywhere…and there is an higher than average potential for crises which turn out to be much ado about nothing. Keep that in mind if a house on fire lands on your desk. Chill and go with the flow.

Tuesday’s debate.

Before I get to that, I’m pleased to report that the 2016 Really Useful Mercury Retrograde Survival Guide bookmarks are in! Get one and you’ll always know when Mercury is retrograde, along with key Important Safety Tips. Last year I mailed out a zillion of these, and I so enjoyed connecting with you. This year I’m asking for your help to cover costs. I will happily send you one for $2.88 or three for $4.99, along with a personalized note of thanks for your interest in this forecast.

OK, now the debate.

It’s interesting that CNN changed the start time from 9PM to 8:30PM ET — or rather, from 6PM PT to 5:30PM PT (this debate is happening in Las Vegas — ?!?). Perhaps that accounts for the flashing neon alert of Neptune opposing Venus, Mars and Jupiter in the event chart, suggesting more than a little razzle-dazzle vision and pixie-dusted fog. It’s politics and it’s showbiz.

With Aries rising, Mars in Virgo rules the debate chart — and we’ve already discussed how resourceful and empowered the energy of assertion is this week, down to the last Mars in Virgo perfect detail. Mars also refers to guns. Perhaps that will be one of the hot topics. Just before and after 6PM PT — 9PM ET, rebel Uranus and ruthless Pluto will cross the angles of the chart, so I’ll be looking for an especially impactful zinger or two around then.

Sun and Moon are in the 7th — looking to connect with the public. The Scorpio Moon might prefer uncompromising intensity, based on emotional depth. The Libra Sun might prefer a more rational, diplomatic approach, seeking to find a balance. How will the performers in this event work those preferences out?

Jupiter, Mars and Venus are together in Virgo in the 6th House, facilitating discussion of work, labor unions, health care, ecology and food production. Crushing debt — related to education: Saturn in Sagittarius in the 8th. Help those less fortunate, including those who were not born here: Neptune in Pisces in the 12th square Saturn in Sagittarius. Change the power structure of corporations and the government: Pluto in Capricorn in the 10th. Free to be….you and me: Uranus in Aries in the 1st.

Many astrologers use 8:02AM as Hillary Clinton’s birth time, which gives her a Scorpio Ascendant to match her Scorpio Sun.  Her Moon is in Pisces, suggesting intuition, compassion and a profound understanding of human suffering. Transiting Venus is just about to hit her Virgo Midheaven, suggesting an uptick in popularity. Jupiter is in her 10th house, along with assertive Mars — all good for poll numbers, though ’tis a pity the esact Jupiter transit to her Midheaven has already passed. Her Scorpio Sun is comfortable with the intensity of the debate’s Scorpio Moon; in fact the Moon will be conjoining her Sun tonight, suggesting a potential fresh start.

We don’t have a verified birth time for Bernie Sanders, either. I did see one rectification effort proposing a Scorpio Ascendant, like Mrs. Clinton. Thus he’d benefit from having Jupiter, Mars and Venus at the top of his chart, too. Even better — and longer lasting than a quick hit to the Midheaven by Venus: 1) transiting Jupiter meeting up with his 15 Virgo Sun and transiting Uranus likely meeting up with his pioneering me-me-me Aries Moon…AND his Venus in Libra-Mars in Aries opposition. This is a horoscope on fire with initiating drive, passion and social expression. It’s why I opined a few months ago that he is likely to be a significant player in this presidential race. These transits will continue well into 2016.

To me it seems that Mrs. Clinton will do well, and that Mr. Sanders will do well, too…but bigger.

You know who else has a career-boosting transit continuing into 2016? Joe Biden, whose horoscope has been discussed several times before: here in 2012; here in 2014; here several weeks ago. The Vice President’s Midheaven is 19 Virgo, and Jupiter will be sitting on it for the first of three passes on November 21 — and again in February and July. Before that happens, transiting Saturn will conjoin Mr. Biden’s 3 degrees Sagittarius Ascendant on October 23, just days before Mars (action!) conjoins his Midheaven (career) on October 27th.  That’s a time period to watch. Does he really want to toss his hat into the ring? I don’t know. I am not a psychic; I’m an astrologer. Does Rep. Paul Ryan really want to run for House Speaker? These two men are experiencing similar Saturn-Jupiter transits — as noted in yesterday’s forecast. This suggests a certain opportunity. Isn’t that interesting?

Other candidates: Lincoln Chafee — noted here earlier — Aries Sun; Moon in Leo — ambition perhaps sparked by transiting Saturn earlier this year — we don’t have a birth time. Aries Sun long past potential for being supercharged by Uranus-Pluto, despite fighting spirit likely to kick in around December. Said Sun is at 5 Aries, like Rep. Jason Chaffetz (discussed last week), and was recently eclipsed. Hmmm.

Martin O’Malley — 12p horoscope here — unknown birth time — Capricorn Sun  — Moon in substance-seeking Scorpio nowhere near Saturn’s push. What we do see is an intense Sun-Uranus measurement suggesting need to break out of the pack; to disrupt the status quo. It peaks this month, and there’s nothing much else to report unless he’s got something seriously exciting going on with the angles of his horoscope, which we do not know. With Saturn in Aquarius and Jupiter in Pisces, this suggests compassion that needs to help. He has the Uranus-Pluto conjunction of the mid-60s in his horoscope — the spark of a revolution.

Jim Webb — Feb 9 1946 in St Joseph MO — no birth time. Idealistic Sun in humanitarian Aquarius; Moon in either late Taurus or early Gemini. Does he project material comfort and security or does he need to be the smartest kid in the room? That’ll be a clue. Late Taurus would have been pushed to act by transiting Saturn. Early Gemini might be under the visionary spell of transiting Neptune. Lots of Air — mental, verbal energy – in his horoscope, regardless. His Mars at 15 Cancer has been sparked by transiting Uranus (taking a risk; impulsive action) and will continue to be supercharged by transiting Pluto into next year.

In other news, on this verrrrrrrry slow Moon void news day, it was announced that Playboy magazine will no longer be publishing photos of naked women. How interesting to read this disruption of the status quo 1) days after the second hit of transiting Uranus to Mr. Hefner’s Aries Sun; and 2) hours after last night’s New Moon, which also conjoined Mr. Hefner’s Aries Sun. Not to mention current transits among Venus (women, aesthetics), Saturn (controls, business) and Neptune (ideals, photography), suggesting all of those themes in parentheses.

Elsewhere, beer is making big business news, reflecting so much Neptune (spirits) and Jupiter-Pluto (power & resources). So is music — also Neptune.

What is going on in your horoscope? Now is the time to find out. Here’s how to schedule a personal consultation, in which we will have an enlightening and useful discussion together.

Thank you for reading this forecast.

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday & Tuesday 10/12-13/2015: Sneak Peek at the Week; New Moon in Libra; Take Me to Your Leader

Happy Thanksgiving in Canada. Happy Mattress Sale Day in the United States.

We’re still dealing with a dead Moon, waiting for the New Moon to begin at 8:06PM ET. Lucky you if you’ve got the day off…or are planning a covert operation. We can expect a jolt or other disruption of the status quo around 6:20PM ET, when the Moon is opposed by rebel Uranus. Perhaps it’s related to a power play or emotional catharsis that occurred earlier around 7AM ET, courtesy of  Pluto.

Once the New Moon does kick in, it it will immediately go void until 5:38PM ET on TUESDAY. This suggests twists favoring the underdog, a lack of focus and/or other challenges to efforts made in a straight line. This does not suggest you stay home under the covers all day. It suggests you use your awareness of the Moon void potential in how you choose to react to the day’s events. If a crisis erupts, the conventional wisdom suggests it’s likely much ado about nothing, so chill and just go with the flow. Got that? Be advised that on Wednesday the Moon will go void at 8:58PM ET…not to enter the next sign until FRIDAY at 5:18AM ET.  So most of Tuesday and all of Thursday ET are likely to be a bust in terms of moving things decisively forward.

This doesn’t mean there won’t be plenty of diplomatic, practical thinking and physical and/or assertive drive at your disposal, as well as dreamy/artsy inspiration that may or may not be hopelessly tinged with rose. The only exact aspect on Tuesday is the third in a series of easy aspects between sobering Saturn and mental Mercury at 5:55AM ET. Whatever practical solution you reached on the second of the series may be up for a rethink. That was last Tuesday 10/6.

If power and control are your aim, planetary patterns on Tuesday night and all day Wednesday offer more support, for better or for worse. The only exact aspect on Thursday is an easy alignment between action hero Mars (in perfection-seeking Virgo) and Pluto (in big business/government Capricorn) at 11:31PM ET. We should see plenty of headlines along those lines between now and then. If you’re a Virgo, Taurus or Capricorn born in the first half of those signs…or if you have a planet or angle between 4-14 degrees of those signs, this is probably not the time to rest on your laurels.  Consult your local astrologer for details.

Friday and Saturday look primed for high-flying exuberant spin or vision, again for the sake of perfection — perhaps on a “big picture” principle. Friday begins with the gravitas of a Moon-Saturn meet-up in Sagittarius (right on Rep. Paul Ryan’s Ascendant — hmmm). The evening is dominated by a dreamy face-off between Venus (money, women, aesthetics, social expression) in Virgo and visionary/delusional Neptune at 10:54PM ET. Saturday’s big news is a meet-up between expansive Jupiter and assertive Mars in Virgo at 6:40PM ET.

And now, today’s New Moon.

The New Moon is the monthly meet-up of the Sun and Moon.  It offers us an opportunity to re-set  intentions and goals for the next lunar cycle.  Sometime today or tomorrow, light a candle and make a list.  Around October 20th, on the First Quarter Moon, we can expect a challenge to those goals, with appropriate adjustments made. At the time of the Full Moon on the 27th, we can expect illumination on the success or failure of our goals for the cycle. If we succeeded, we can consciously release our success into our reality; if we failed, we let go of whatever did not work. After the Third Quarter Moon on November 3rd, we can review our achievements, tie up loose ends and get ready to begin another New Moon on the 11th.

Libra is the sign of partnerships. Marriage is an obvious partnership; some business relationships are partnerships, including adversarial ones. Since March, we’ve gone through the first half of the zodiac with New Moons focusing on the Self: Aries = my identity; Taurus = my values/possessions; Gemini = my mind/communication; Cancer = my emotions/family; Leo = my creative self-expression/love to give; Virgo = my service/work/body.

Starting with Libra, we’re ready to go public. Take a look at your relationships: how are We doing? What is the State of Our Unions?  How do they reflect the Libran needs of justice, fairness, diplomacy, peace, beauty and sweetness? Is there resentment or a lack of appreciation? Are there issues hanging in the balance (Libra is the sign of the Scales)?

Use a bit of creative visualization in your New Moon meditation  — and if you’re not a meditating type, grab a pen and paper and make a list of partnership objectives for the next few months.  If there’s anything/anyone on that list that you already have, make time for social graces and express your appreciation. Libra NEEDS appreciation for being valuable in relationship; by extension, our relationships need grace and appreciation, too.

Patterns in this New Moon chart suggest a big push for idealized perfection. These patterns include those that will be exact as the week progresses (noted above). They also include patterns that were exact over the weekend and described in detail in Friday’s forecast: Venus square Saturn, Jupiter trine Pluto and Uranus opposing the Sun. It’s the last one that suggests the potential for upsets to the status quo in relationship. In addition to opposing the Sun, Uranus is opposing the Moon.

You will be more personally impacted by the breakout potential if you have a planet or angle around 20 degrees of Libra or Aries — and to a lesser degree, Cancer or Capricorn.

The Sabian Symbol for 20 Libra is “a Jewish rabbi,” and here’s what Sabian Symbol guru Blain Bovee has to say about it. “…an image of a spiritual head and teacher whose responsibilities lie in interpreting and disseminating matters of the laws of the living….As a leader, his task is to feed his community in order to help others find their right place and time regarding their heritage”.  Fascinating, in light of current headlines about leadership (and lack thereof).

Bovee suggests we apply this symbol with a mind to “creativity generosity to help situations along; compassionate sensibility that transcends rules…sustaining rather than suspending…today’s outsiders being tomorrow’s leaders…nourishing wisdom as opposed to smug intellectualism…generosity of the heart as opposed to free handouts.”

And now, the news — briefly.

Talk about power and resources. Reflecting Sunday’s potent Jupiter-Pluto alignment, consider this NYT article listing the 158 families who have provided $176 million —  “almost half of all seed money raised to support Democratic and Republican presidential candidates.”.

Not since before Watergate have so few people and businesses provided so much early money in a campaign, most of it through channels legalized by the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision five years ago…

Whoa.

Did you see this bizarre story about three teenagers who died after a school principal abused his power (Pluto square Sun) and hypnotized (Mars opposing Neptune) his students?  In other news, take the visionary and spacey potential of Mars-Neptune, mix it with the intensely futuristic potential of Sun opposing Uranus and other current energetic patterns, and you might see a NYT homepage piece about a non-profit organization in upstate New York that has recreated sets from the original Star Trek TV series in order to produce a new series, Star Trek: New Voyages, which you can view online. Beam me up.

Mets fans are not happy today. During Saturday’s  all-day Moon void, their team’s shortstop suffered a broken leg after LA Dodger Chase Utley slid into him. A Moon void during sports matches does suggests a higher than average potential for upsets and other freaky occurrences. The slide was ruled illegal; Utley was suspended for two games. Now Utley has appealed, and since the appeal isn’t going to be heard by the start of the game tonight, it appears Utley will be able to play….or so the NYT was reporting earlier today. Perhaps that will change.

Saturn square Venus suggests harsh realities and women. Sun opposing Uranus suggests technology and mavericks. What is it that keeps women out of tech fields, wonders the NYT?  Why did a Democratic congresswoman claim she was disinvited from Tuesday’s Democratic debates? An acclaimed astronomer apologizes for sexual harassment. A 48 million year old fossil is discovered — pregnant at the time of its death. An update on anorexia — a harsh illness impacting mostly women — makes the home page and becomes one of the most widely-viewed items on the NYT homepage. And on and on. Isn’t it interesting how planetary patterns are reflected in the news?

Finally, Rep. Paul Ryan. The Republican congressman from Wisconsin has apparently been begged by his party to run for House Speaker. So far he’s been saying no, though reportedly that isn’t his final answer. Back in 2012, I wrote a lengthy bit on Mr. Ryan — here it is.  His horoscope was quite hot back then, and it’s heating up again now. What will he decide to do with all this potential? That’s up to him. However, the opportunity to run for Speaker coincides with transiting Saturn (heavy responsibility) right on his Ascendant. That’s a challenge to his natal Neptune-Ascendant conjunction:  to get real about his natural projection of pixie-dust and vision, the kind that’s convinced some  that he’s more of a con than a congressman.

It is interesting to note that Mercury, the ruler of Mr. Ryan’s 10th house of public status/career is being supercharged by transiting Pluto, adding an extra dose of persuasiveness in mindset and communication. This will continue into 2016. It is also interesting to see transiting Venus, Mars and Jupiter about to hit his Midheaven — all before November 4th. These transits increase the potential for elevated and expanded public status, especially the Jupiter transit, because it rules his Ascendant and will continue into 2016. Also of note: The last two eclipses hit points in Mr. Ryan’s horoscope: Mars (assertiveness; creative self-expression) and his Midheaven.

Hopefully you can now appreciate why Mr. Ryan is attracting so much attention right about now. And if you understood what was going on in your horoscope, you’d be able to anticipate when opportunities are likely to manifest for you, too.

Thank you for reading this forecast.

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 10/9/2015 & the Weekend: Mercury Direct; Meltdown in Congress

Note your dreams upon waking, as the Moon in Virgo — doing its best to put everything in order after a nearly 24-hour bender in rip-roarin’ Leo — is opposed by nebulous Neptune, nevertheless. Further confusing efforts to sort truth from fiction is mental Mercury at a standstill…but turning direct at 10:58AM ET. Do make a conscious effort to slooooooooooooooooooow down and FOCUS before flying off the handle around that time, as the persnickety Moon meets up with assertive Mars at 10:05AM ET. Somebody somewhere is likely to snap around then — and we’ll likely see it in the headlines.

A notable display of confidence and resources is likely to become apparent around 5:24 PM ET, as the Moon meets up with expansive Jupiter and trines potent Pluto at 6:12PM ET — hmmm, markets are up this morning. Then it goes void of course with a long sigh, suggesting we head for the nearest Happy Hour. What happens between Friday evening and Sunday AM is anyone’s guess, as the void will continue until 4:46AM ET. It’s a dead Moon, too, i.e., little light, which is perfect for planning actions in secret. And here I am imagining any number of back-room meetings around Capitol Hill, as the plot thickens….

For us ordinary mortals, chill Friday night and Saturday. Like I said earlier this week, an organizational project around the house would be a fine use of the Virgo need to sort it all out. Avoid the malls during the void; what you buy is not likely to be something you really need. Avoid turning a molehill into a mountain of crisis, especially in matters relating to business, women, arts and finances. I say this because taskmaster Saturn will square Venus at 8:31PM ET on Saturday. Not the most suggestive pattern for a casual fling, and even the most familiar of partnerships may feel chilly…or at least require at attitude of gravitas. You’ll feel the weight of Saturn-Venus more personally if you have a planet or angle around the first few degrees of Sagittarius, Gemini, Virgo or Pisces.  Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), that includes you.

On Sunday, power and resources with stunningly disruptive consequences are suggested, as Jupiter makes an easy connection to Pluto and the Libra Sun is opposed by rebel Uranus. Again I find myself thinking of deals made in back rooms with closed doors. Sure, the Moon will be in relationship-oriented Libra, seeking to win that high school popularity contest and be seen as fair and diplomatic….but still.

On Monday, we’ll continue in the dark of the Moon — with no Moon void for those who must head to the office. A dead Moon is often accompanied by a sense of restlessness or listlessness, as we intuitively sense the arrival of something new — if only it would hurry up and get here. Regardless, we can expect a power play or emotional catharsis around 7:19AM ET, as the Moon is squared by Pluto…followed by a disruption to the status quo around 6:20PM ET, as the Moon is opposed by Uranus. That disruption in matters of relationship, backed by the powerful thrust of Jupiter trine Pluto sets the tone for the New Moon that will kick in at 8:06PM ET. Make your list of intentions a good one.

And now, the news.

Are we having fun following the drama in the U.S. Congress this week? I confess I am having fun writing about it, as it is so in synch with what was expected, given planetary patterns. Astrology is amazing!

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past 24 hours, headlines are ablaze with the stunning news that the man who was supposedly a shoo-in to become the next Speaker of the House suddenly withdrew his name for consideration. Let the record show that we did expect the unexpected  — and no consequences (!) — from a Congressional meeting that was scheduled to take place during 1) Mercury stationary direct; 2) a Moon void of course — suggesting upsets (!); 3) the backdrop of the Sun’s challenging contacts with Uranus and Pluto, not to mention a bewildering and scandalous Mars-Neptune opposition.

The meeting in question was disrupted by the man’s sudden announcement. So much for the meeting — it was cancelled. If you were a member of Congress and you knew something about astrology, you would not have been all that surprised.

The man in question is  House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, whose disruptive Uranus transits were discussed here just over a week ago. What really prompted this surprise upset? Did McCarthy’s Benghazi “gaffe” do him in? Was it because Stephen Colbert followed Rachel Maddow’s lead and called attention to Mr. McCarthy’s bizarre usage of the English language — and CBS has many more viewers than Mr. Colbert’s former network, Comedy Central?  Was it because Dick Cheney endorsed Mr. McCarthy’s Speaker bid — was that the kiss of death? Or was it the rumors that have apparently been circulating for months — about a possible extramarital affair? Could that be more of a kiss of death than the parallel Mr. McCarthy’s way with words has with Mr. Cheney’s former boss?

With Mercury retrograde, we reserve final judgement on the rumored affair, even though it does reflect the potential for excited and risky social expression/attractions we’d expect with a Uranus transit to Venus, which is one of the Uranus transits Mr. McCarthy is experiencing.

But what in Heaven’s name is going on with the Republican Party? Surely we must see this bewildering meltdown in its horoscope. If we accept July 6, 1854 at 1:01PM in Jackson, MI as its “birth data”, we do see considerable stress on key angles and planets in the chart now and into next year. I wish I had time to write it up now, but it will have to wait.

Update: Also on the Hill, there was yet another hearing about Planned Parenthood, in which it was admitted that in last week’s Moon void hearing on the same subject, nothing of consequence was found. Said Jason Chaffetz — whom you may remember from earlier this week:

“Did I look at the finances and have a hearing specifically as to the revenue portion and how they spend? Yes. Was there any wrongdoing? I didn’t find any,”

He has vowed to continue the quest for more information, which is what was expected from the 114th Congress when I wrote about it a year ago.

Let’s see…any other disruptions to report? Yes. Scientists say they have digitally recreated part of a rat’s brain. The mayor of Rome just resigned in a scandal...see? It’s not just us. Elsewhere, Governor John Kasich (R-OH), who has seemed to be such a decent, level-headed man in the last two Republican debates, disrupted that perception with patronizing remarks to college women at UVA. Sigh.

One of my classmates from my days at Wellesley who reads my forecast emailed to ask what planetary patterns suggested about Vladimir Putin “sending in ground troops despite denials, and today bombing Syria with missiles from 1000 miles away from the Caspian Sea”. I wrote briefly about Mr.Putin’s horoscope a few days ago, noting that it suggested efforts at considerable empowerment now through the end of the year. However, in a thirty-second glance at basic horoscope data (we do not have a confirmed birth time), transits to hit natal Saturn from Pluto suggest extreme efforts at the risk of considerable loss. Today a headline reads, “Russia Will Pay Price for Syrian Airstrikes, Say US Defense Secretary”. I can see how that could happen.

Finally, because it’s time for me to post — and for you to stop reading about astrology in world events and start considering how this awareness can benefit you personally — here are two cool, timely stories. Venus is changing signs and back where it was when it stationed retrograde — and now it’s making headlines as a possible NASA “next visit”. And check out these supercool pictures of Pluto that hit the wires on Tuesday’s Sun-Pluto square.

Thank you for reading this forecast. Thank you especially to those of you who share it with friends. Will be back later this weekend with a forecast for Monday’s New Moon….will try to write about whatever other candidates for Speaker of the House emerge, too.

Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 10/9/2015: Venus in Virgo; Mind the Void

Writing this in the middle of an almost 24-hour Moon void in Leo that began Wednesday at 5:10PM ET. It won’t engage fully in the next sign — Virgo — until 3:50PM ET today. Sleep through the alarm? Put your underwear on backwards? Greeted by a Starbucks barrista with a cheerful “Good afternoon!” at 8:30 in the morning? Roll through the twists and flakes; stick to routine; avoid the malls and chill, chill, chill.

At 1:30PM ET Venus — which refers to social expression, arts, women and money — leaves luxurious, regal, drama queen Leo for the pristine, detail-oriented, potentially hypercritical sign of Virgo. This is significant because Venus stationed retrograde at 0 degrees of Virgo on July 25th. By Saturday, Venus will finally be out of the shadow phase of its retrogradation, suggesting our aesthetic senses have finally returned to normal. Did your summer fling survive the summer? How attractive are they now?

A drive for perfection in social expression may be felt as Venus and the Moon meet up at 4:01PM ET. An ambitious advance or a wet blanket may land on your plate around 7:18PM ET, as the Moon is challenged by controlling Saturn. You could use the late afternoon’s Virgo need for order, combined with the last full day of  Mercury retrograde to tackle that REorganization project you vowed to complete.

The drive to put things right continues through the weekend. I have a closet filled with summer clothes that need to be swapped out for fall. What have you got planned for the rest of the year, with most of the planets moving forward again? Would you like to talk about it? An astro-logical perspective can be oh-so validating and inspiring…or clarifying if you haven’t got a clue. Here’s how to contact me for a personal consultation.

Look up in the sky tonight and you may see a few of the Draconids meteors — here’s the 411.

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 10/7/2015: The Conception of Planned Parenthood & More Politics as Usual

Moon in Leo continues to drive the day with a focused need for creative self-expression and ways to shine. The power plays and sublime spin of yesterday’s exact patterns are in the rear view mirror. Now we will be building to another crest of activity over the weekend. This will involves a disruptive need for independence, as the Sun is opposed by Uranus on Sunday, accompanied by the impressive resourcefulness of an easy alignment between expansive Jupiter and Pluto (also on Sunday). These will be prefaced by a stern business and/or financial advance, as Venus (women, money, aesthetics) and Saturn (controls) square off on Saturday. We last experienced a Saturn-Venus square the week of August 5th; here are some headlines; plenty more can be found by searching the archives.

There’s an easy balance to this morning’s planetary patterns, as the Sun and Moon are in exact harmony at 7:40AM ET. The only other exact pattern is another easy flow between the dramatic Leo Moon and innovative Uranus at 5:10PM ET. Get it off your desk by then, as the Moon will then go void…not to enter Virgo until 3:5oPM ET Thursday. Regular readers understand that Moon voids are best for routine matters, as efforts to move forward in a straight line are more likely to be hampered by twists, flakes, delays and other “crises” which usually prove to be much ado about nothing. Chill and go with the flow, if this happens to you.

And now, the news.

Keywords for Mars-Neptune aspects, such as the Mars-Neptune opposition we had yesterday, include drugs, healing, redemption, chemicals, showbiz…to name a few. The Sun-Pluto square suggests empowerment; news from underground. How interesting to see that 6000 inmates in the U.S. are about to be released from prison at the end of this month (trick or treat?), an “effort to ease prison overcrowding and rollback the harsh sentences” handed out to nonviolent offenders in the 1980s and 90s. In other news, the prestigious Harvard debate team recently lost a contest against…a team of prison inmates from New York. What a power play.

Meanwhile…

(I drafted this next bit yesterday — couldn’t finish it in time to ship. It’s a bit of a rant, and I confess I wrote it 1) after watching what I judged to be just plain awful behavior on the part of the newsmaker in question — click the link to a video in the first paragraph; and 2) under external ambient duress, as you will see. I am sure the newsmaker is a very nice person. Or at least would like people to appreciate him for being so. And he’s on the homepage of the NYT this morning, so we should look at his birth data and understand why. Here goes:)

So much else to cover. Once again, it’s a matter of time.  You know who else does not have time? Jason Chaffetz. Who? The Congressman from Utah who chaired last Tuesday’s void–of-course Moon in me-me-me Aries “hearing” in which Cecile Richards, who heads Planned Parenthood, attempted to say a few words. It was nearly impossible for her to do this, because Mr. Chaffetz was too busy telling her how little time he had. Certainly he did not have time to learn the difference between a mammogram and a breast exam, and why you can’t get a mammogram at Planned Parenthood.

You can just imagine him falling down stairs because it’s faster than walking, bulldozing ahead without regard to much of anything except his own me-me-me ambitious agenda. Thus it would not surprise you to find out that Mr. Chaffetz was born with a me-me-me Aries Sun conjunct a potentially autocratic Saturn in Aries; bulldozing capacity courtesy of a stubbornly persistent Mars in Taurus, much like the jackhammers the City of New York thinks I need to hear for hours on end on this otherwise bright, sunny Moon-in-Leo day.

Mr. Chaffetz’s horoscope is driven by a people-pleasing Moon in Libra, and he sure seemed sweet and charming in the early days of his congressional career when he was interviewed by Stephen Colbert.    But that was before Uranus and Pluto supercharged Mr. Chaffetz’s 5 Aries Sun in 2010-2012, suggesting transformation, emancipation and empowerment, for better or worse…and it’s quite possible, given that we do not have an exact birth time, that his Libra Moon is feeling bold enough to enter its biggest popularity contest yet, under the influence of Uranus and/or Pluto.

Mr. Chaffetz’s Sun was eclipsed on the Big Bad Full Moon on September 27th. Interesting to see him attracting attention almost immediately. Last week, that inglorious Planned Parenthood hearing. This week, he’s declared his candidacy for Speaker of the House. He certainly would have a vision, with transiting Neptune now sitting right on top of his Mercury, and his Libra Moon would be so happy if all the kids in his party elected him Speaker. Is he for real?

The NYT headline profiling Mr. Chaffetz  is this: “For Jason Chaffetz, Quixotic House Speaker Bid is in Character”.  Quixotic! Mix Aries with Mercury-Neptune and you’ve got an Impossible Dream for sure. Cue the Broadway classic now, please. Without the Mercury-Neptune, you just have “impossible”. To Aries, it’s the same either way. Tell ’em they can’t do something and you just watch…

…and here’s an example. In 2003, Mr. Chaffetz’s application to join the Secret Service was rejected “because better qualified candidates existed” out there (here’s more dirt on that). Now he chairs the Committee that oversees the Secret Service. So there.

But what about Kevin McCarthy, the presumed successor to the Speaker’s chair? Well, there was that disruptive remark last week implying that damaging Hillary Clinton’s poll numbers was the true objective of the House Select Committee on Benghazi. You may recall from a post last week that Mr. McCarthy has transiting Uranus exactly square Mercury and Venus right now, suggesting a buzz, flash of recognition or other excitement in mindset and social expression that would likely attract attention. And boy, has he.

If you’ve never actually heard this would-be Speaker speak, you may be entertained, gob-smacked or utterly bewildered by this clip, completely apt for Mercury retrograde and other currently surreal patterns. Yesterday the Kardashians are proclaimed “America’s First Family”; tomorrow we may see Kevin McCarthy become third-in-line to the Oval Office. Oh, America…you are having some weird, wild Neptune thing happening in your horoscope…

Finally, the New York Times has a cool new feature in which it notes the first time a subject appeared in the headlines. Yesterday it featured Planned Parenthood:

It started out as an idea, then developed into an organizing committee, and within four years it was Planned Parenthood. The organization, the subject of much recent congressional jousting, had its roots in the American Birth Control League, which started a fund-raising drive in 1938 to promote the concept of “planned parenthood,” as The Times reported on Jan. 28, 1938.

So what did planetary patterns suggest on January 28, 1938? Exactly what you would expect! Sun, Venus (women) and Jupiter (expansion, birth) all together in the humanitarian sign of Aquarius, squaring Uranus in Taurus. Freedom! Independence! Technology! A windfall opportunity! We see a Moon in practical, earthy Capricorn trine to Uranus as well. The Capricorn Moon would be ever so down with family planning as a practical strategy. The trine to Uranus suggests emotional detachment and egalitarianism, with the help of technology (echoes the innovative tech spin of those three planets in Aquarius).

There is a militant, disciplined action plan, suggested by Mars conjoined with Saturn at the Aries Point; boy is this idea likely to attract attention. Mars is in Pisces; Saturn is in Aries. Both planets refer to what is yang and/or patriarchal and they are not placed in signs where they operate most effectively/happily — if you are a fan of traditional astrology thinking. Hmmm. We can mull that over for a spell…

We see Mercury in practical Capricorn — in an easy alignment with Neptune in Virgo. A practical vision in a health care concern. Mercury is in an obsessive relationship with Pluto, suggesting how this initial idea could become a power struggle over Plutonian matters of life and death…and of course, Pluto would be in Cancer…in an easy alignment with Mars.

This first mention of the idea that would evolve into Planned Parenthood manifested in the aftermath of a series of Uranus-Pluto squares that occurred in 1934-35. Birth control was legalized for all Americans in 1972; Roe v. Wade was decided in 1973, six and seven years after the Uranus-Pluto conjunctions of 1965-66. What revolutionary advance will we see in this area in four to seven years, in the aftermath of this past series of Uranus-Pluto squares? Can you see the patterns here?

Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 10/6/2015: Royal Power Plays: Sublime or Delusional?

The Moon’s ingress into Leo — as of 4:31AM ET — suggests a need for applause on center stage. A Leo drive facilitates creative self-expression, preferably by following your heart. Yes, it does have a king/queen complex and can huff and puff with regal entitlement. One way to diffuse an expression of Leo in bad form is to remind him or her how much they are loved. When Leo is shining, everyone else may, too…and when the Moon is in Leo, that applies to everyone. Why? Because I just said so. That is my royal edict, in the spirit of royal Leo. How will you help someone shine today? How will you let them know they are loved?

Refer to yesterday’s forecast for the 411 on the three major aspects exact today. Briefly, it’s a day where we can expect big power plays of a visionary and/or delusional kind, presented with breathtaking spin and seemingly thoroughly thought-out. I say “seemingly” because Mercury is retrograde, so how can we really be sure. But in your own quest for world domination, you may feel as if much has been accomplished today…for better or for worse…with a razzle-dazzle entertainment as your reward in the evening hours…

…which is a perfect cue to present Tarot Diva Beth Owlsdaughter’s Card of the Week — gorgeously in synch with the highest potential of today’s planetary patterns — I know you will love it!

And now, the news.

The shock of yesterday morning’s challenge (7:04AM ET) between the Moon and disruptive Uranus, combined with other travel-challenging patterns showed up in a couple of surprising items. “A freak of nature” was cited as the cause of an Amtrak train’s derailment in Vermont. “Freaky” seems a bit hyperbolic to describe a rock slide — are we that detached from Mother Earth? But whatever. Meanwhile, just before 7 AM ET an American Airlines pilot suffered a heart attack and died in the cockpit. The co-pilot landed the plane safely. But still — that is freaky, reflecting the sudden shock potential of Uranus in action.

Oil made headlines yesterday, as anticipated, including this effort at empowerment (Pluto square Sun) “Oil Industry Gaining in Push for Repeal of U.S. Ban on Petroleum Exports”.  A “news from underground” item included this: “Scientists Hope to Learn How Pompeiians Lived Before the Big Day”. Regeneration is a Pluto theme, and on Sunday the NYT published a long sobering piece about the actual cost-savings of recycling. I’ll keep composting anyway, since New York greenmarkets make it so darn easy. Check this out if you live in any of the five boroughs.

Now this one is apt for today’s bewildering Mars-Neptune face-off: Scandal Erupts in the World of Fantasy Sports  Just perfect! Meanwhile, the Nobel prizes for physics are out — and “How Neutrinos Saved the World” tells you all about it. In other news, the world is scheduled to end tomorrow, according to a group of Christians whose prior predictions of when the world would end did not come true. I wonder if anyone in this group knows just enough about astrology to be dangerous, as the second-to-the-last time they predicted the end of the world in May of 2011, Neptune was quite active. I wrote about it back then — and ooh, look, Scott Walker and Donald Trump made news in that day’s forecast, too.

This is Harold Camping’s group of Christians we are talking about, here. After May’s disaster, he recalculated and set his sights on November 2011 — during another Neptune transit. See a pattern? Harold Camping did finally meet his end on December 15, 2013. Neptune was nowhere to be found, as you can see from the forecast posted on that day.

In other news, Cosmopolitan released the cover of their November issue with “America’s First Family” (sic) — the Kardashians — on the cover. Pixie-dust and bewilderment, for sure…just who are we, anyway?

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 10/5/2015: Sneak Peek at a Rollicking Week

Good Morning!

We’re off to the start of a dynamic week in terms of planetary patterns. At 7:04AM ET, the homeland security-seeking Cancer Moon is photobombed by disruptive Uranus. This suggests a jolt or twist to your morning routine, especially since the Moon goes void immediately thereafter for the rest of the day (here is one manifestation of that in the news: an accord has apparently been reached on the Trans-Pacific Partnerhip). The Moon won’t enter Leo – the next sign — until 4:31AM ET on Tuesday.

Moon voids — here’s the 411 if you are not familiar with the term — are awesome for taking care of routine matters and rolling with the twists and flakes that may derail efforts to move forward in a straight line. Chilling and not freaking out over crises that arise are excellent strategies, as said crises will usually prove to be much ado about nothing.

Today’s Moon void is complicated by three patterns that will be exact on Tuesday. Pattern #1 is a challenge between the Libra Sun and Pluto in Capricorn. This suggests a power play for sure on the world stage, as well as news from underground. Planetary patterns during the week of October 4th suggest volatility and no small amount of pixie-dust. If you were born around the 4th through 8th of April, July, October or January, you may be feeling more deeply provocative than most. If Pluto is active in your horoscope, resistance is futile. Here are some inspiring coping strategies from a prior forecast if Pluto is happening to you.

And here’s how to contact me to schedule a personal consultation about your horoscope. How long have you been reading this forecast? If longer than 90 days, you’re due for an appointment — unless you happen to be an astrologer yourself. In that case, I invite you to consider how much time and effort it takes to write this blog — for almost seven years now — as well as how helpful these musings have been in your studies and/or practice. If you would like to make a donation in appreciation, you would make my day. With gratitude and appreciation to my pal Diane, who told me last week, “You know, you really should be putting a notice like that much further up in your forecast. No one sees the link at the bottom of the page”.  A true friend will champion your worth to the ends of the Earth. Thanks, Diane.

Back to Pluto.

Count Vladimir Putin in that mix; his birthday is October 7th, and his horoscope (exact birth time unknown), was first discussed in this forecast here. With transiting Pluto in a close challenge to his Sun through the end of 2015 (along with other motivating transits to other planets in his horoscope), we can expect him to continue on a course of deeply provocative action. Next year should be even more interesting.

Here’s another one: George W. Bush, born on July 6th. Ten minutes after this thought hit me, an article hit the NYT about how some of Jeb Bush’s supporters are thinking he should be spending more time with his older brother on the campaign trail. Fascinating. Of course the US was born on July 4th, so it will have plenty of deeply provocative actions on its plate, for better or for worse — and with transiting Pluto also on the U.S. Saturn, we can expect a certain dose of anguish. Have you noticed the headlines lately?

Pattern #2 is the bewildering spin that builds to a crest when action hero Mars and visionary Neptune face off at 10:53PM ET, also on Tuesday. Mars-Neptune contacts can be oh-so-sexy and bedazzling. Just ask Bill Clinton who has ’em both sitting on his sweet-talking Libra Ascendant. But is he totally for real? In the best of times, Mars-Neptune can be sublime and visionary and healing and out-of-this world. Poet Maya Angelou had a Mars-Neptune opposition in her horoscope. So did William Moore McCulloch, who was credited with being the first Congressman to introduce legislation that would become the 1964 Civil Rights Act. He was a Republican. How times change.

Pattern #3: is a super-practical connection between retrograde Mercury and Saturn. This pattern will repeat on October 13th, once Mercury has turned direct. It’s excellent for structuring ideas into tangible form, though some of what you draft now may be revised once the retrograde is over. Still, you may be inspired by a grand and empowering vision, given what else is happening this week. You’ll be especially sensitive to the Mars-Neptune vision thing if you were born around the 26th of February or September.

But wait, there’s more! On October 8th, Venus leaves regal Leo — finally — for discerning Virgo. Mind your manner and get those details exact, if you please. Will Donald Trump’s stage-hogging social expression (and Leo Ascendant) suddenly fall out of fashion? It was so in vogue with Venus in Leo…

And if that wasn’t enough of an adjustment, note that Mercury will turn direct on October 9th at 10:58AM ET, so an extra dose of patience and focus will be required as the week draws to a close.  Your Moon voids — other than Monday’s are: Wednesday 5:10PM ET until 3:50PM ET on THURSDAY; Friday at 6:12PM ET until 4:26AM ET on SUNDAY. Yeah, that is one loong weekend break. It’ll be a dead Moon, too. The New Moon kicks in with a potential flash on relationships on Monday night.

And now, the news.

Last week happened as anticipated. With only lunar aspects (save one meet-up between the Sun and Mercury), it felt a lot like looking at landscape in Antarctica. Absolutely peaceful and solid, and then….boom! A huge chunk of ice shelf falls into the ocean. Or the headlines reel once again with yet another mass shooting at a school — this time, in Oregon.   Are we feeling enough anguished transiting Pluto square Saturn, United States? I can’t even.

President Obama is tired of the “thoughts and prayers” routine. He’d like to see some action. It will be interesting to see what ambitions he advances and how isolated he might be feeling as transiting Saturn, which has been basking at the top of his horoscope since the end of last year, now opposes his Moon for the third time between the 22th and 30th of this month. If we had time, we’d dig up what was going on for him back in January-February and April-May and see how those issues might be replayed now (perhaps the TPP was one of them). But we don’t have time…no sirree….

…which is why I’ll hold off on the rest of the news until tomorrow, so I can ship this out now. But hold that thought about people who don’t have enough time, mmkay?

Thank you for reading this forecast.
