Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 5/29/2014: Curiouser and Curiouser

Well? Have you been paying attention to your dreams? I’ve been hearing about some that have been stratospheric.

You may be rarin’ to go on yesterday’s New Moon energy, given an innovative buzz between the mental Gemini Moon and technogeek Uranus, exact at 5:59AM ET. The buzz could fizzle, as Moon immediately goes void until 10:13AM ET on FRIDAY.  Plus we’ve got two planets changing signs, which may leave some of us feeling a bit diffused and wobbly. Curious in both senses of the word: inquisitive and a little weird.

Still, words and mindset pull focus, with mental Mercury leaving Gemini for 0 degrees of Cancer (the Aries Point) as of 5:12AM ET. Less left-brained, more right-brained in thought processes. Meanwhile, as of 9:46PM ET last night, Venus (social expression, women, money, art) left a tough placement in Aries for the much more secure and mellow sign of Taurus. Now you can think about a getting new haircut or cosmetics, as Venus functions beautifully in one of the signs it rules (the other sign is Libra).

You know the drill for dealing with voids: stick to routine tasks; avoid impulse shopping; be aware of the higher probability of flakes and twists in your efforts to move forward in a straight line. Go with flow. Don’t turn a molehill into a mountain. Chill, chill, chill!

And now, the news.

Today’s theme is “under the influence…of nebulous Neptune”.

Exhibit A: The 113th Congress. It started on a void of course Moon in perfection-seeking, sometimes hypercritical Virgo. A void of course Moon suggests nothing of consequence will likely be accomplished, and here is an article confirming that the 113th has not done much of anything. As we expected 18 months ago. And how fascinating to note that Virgo refers to health concerns, e.g., the Affordable Care Act. We could expect health concerns to run away with the horoscope of the 113th Congress, and I do believe it voted to repeal ACA over 50 times. Also running wild in that horoscope: Neptune, which refers to a big dream, an awful lot of faith…or the delusions that drive one to do the same thing over and over and expect a different result. Also known as insanity.

Exhibit B: Edward Snowden, whose horoscope we’ve been following for nearly a year. Lots of pixie dust here, with many planets aligned with Neptune. Things are likely not what they seem — and here’s an earlier write-up posted last year.Of particular note: Sun at the Aries Point (29 Gemini) and Mars in opposition to Neptune (also close enough to the Aries Point to count, suggesting he will be KNOWN for mystique, sacrifice, illusion/delusion). If you’ve been paying close attention to the last two forecasts you’ll recall that mental Mercury is at 29 Gemini and thus making contact with Snowden’s horoscope. And there he was making headlines yesterday — about an interview he did with Brian Williams that aired last night on NBC —  revealing that he “wasn’t just an analyst; he was a spy”. Shades of Secret Squirrel! Interesting to note that NBC’s efforts to interview Snowden — his first with an America media outlet — were also sprinkled with pixie dust.

Exhibit C: Maya Angelou, the beloved author, poet, activist and Tony-nominated actress, passed away. On Facebook, one of the many heartfelt tributes I read included a friend’s reaction to hearing Miss Angelou speak:

“This woman has access to the same words as everyone else. How is it she puts them together more beautifully than anyone, and with such ease?” In awe of her power then. In awe now…

That powerful way with words is suggested, of course by her horoscope.  Immediately we see nebulous Neptune sitting right on top of a queenly Leo Ascendant — opposed by action hero Mars, suggesting a need to be seen as the charismatic projection of a sublime, lyrical, soulful ideal.  Alternatively, this pattern could have been expressed as a bewildering or suppressed sense of personal identity — at least in the early home life. The suggestion of suppression (a “caged bird”) is echoed by potent Pluto challenging her Sun in warrior Aries. A need for poetic social expression and thinking (a caged bird that sings!) is suggested by an idealistic connection between Mercury and Venus in Pisces. Also of interest: rebel Uranus running wild — and rising ahead of the Aries Sun — suggesting a need for uncompromising freedom and unconventionality — especially in her vocation.  Miss Angelou managed the potential of Neptune well — and became an inspiration. Her last Tweet: “Listen to yourself and in that quietude you might hear the voice of God.” RIP.

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 12/20/2013 & The Weekend: Winter Solstice; the Aries Point & Edward Snowden

Moon roared into playful, dramatic Leo this morning at 1:48AM ET, which along with the rowdy Sagittarius Sun, offers the potential for super-fab holiday cheer on this last weekend before Christmas. Jolly good! Lunar aspects are light, and favor a smooth application of will with innovative flair. Whatever it is, “make it so” — just like Captain Picard says in this way cool holiday Star Trek:TNG mash-up, where the whole crew performs an innovative version of “Let It Snow.” If you’re lucky, the commercial before the song will  be the latest ad from Pantene that everyone is talking about, which ends with the very Moon in Leo tagline, “Be Strong and Shine”. Cue Helen Reddy now, please. Guys, it’s OK if you hum along, too.

On Saturday at 12:11PM ET, we say goodbye to the Sun in Sagittarius and hello to the Sun in Capricorn. Happy Winter Solstice! In the Northern Hemisphere, days will be getting longer and nights will be getting shorter. If you live in South Africa or anywhere else south of the equator, you are celebrating the first day of summer. What’s it like having a serious sign like Capricorn associated with bikini weather, I wonder? Somebody please write and tell me. In any case, with Capricorn, we move from big-picture thinking (Sagittarius) to practical application. What will we build that will materially define our collective philosophy? Think corporations, governments and maybe The Junior League. Think status and ambition.

Here’s what you need to know about the first day of any season  — i.e., equinoxes and solstices — from an astrological point of view. The first days of Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter correspond with the first day (or first degree) of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, respectively. Got that? Good. These four signs are called cardinal signs of the zodiac. Cardinal signs initiate. They come up with the idea and put it into action, which leads to necessary change. “Cardinal” suggests (from the Latin root of the word), “that on which something turns or depends.”  So the first day/degree of a Cardinal sign is a turning point. In astrology, the technical term for the first degree of any Cardinal sign is the Aries Point, just to confuse people who are not professional astrologers.

Equinoxes and solstices are also prominent. We make a fuss over them, right? In Japan, the first day of each season is actually a national holiday. How cool is that? Thus, in a horoscope, a planet or angle at the Aries Point needs to be prominent. I’ll give you a detailed example of someone famous who was born around the Aries Point in a minute. Off the top of my head, Meryl Streep (a Cancer) and William Shatner (an Aries) were both born with the Sun at the Aries Point. They’re pretty prominent in everything they do, don’t you think?

In the chart for the Winter Solstice using Washington DC as the location, it is interesting to note that the angles are all at the Aries Point, strongly suggesting that this winter is a turning point for the U.S. The volatility of the DC chart supports what has been posted in prior forecasts about the enormous challenges and disruption of the status quo the U.S. horoscope will likely face in 2014, courtesy of the never-ending Uranus-Pluto square challenging the U.S. Sun and the U.S. Saturn.

The other significant planetary shift on Saturday is Venus turning retrograde at 4:53PM ET — refer to yesterday’s forecast for details. Note that at 5PM ET, the Leo Moon is challenged by Saturn in controlling Scorpio, so we can expect a reach for ambition or a heavy wet blanket to set the tone for the evening. On Sunday, Moon goes void of course at 8:25 AM ET and enters Virgo at 2:19PM ET. That’s when it will be safe to hit the malls or computer to finish your holiday shopping (gorgeous gift certificates for personal astro-logical consultations can be emailed anywhere, in case you were wondering). The Virgo Moon offers excellent energy for making lists, checking them twice and finding out who’s been naughty or nice. I wonder if Santa works for the NSA during the off-season…

Speaking of the NSA and people born with planets at the Aries Point that need to be prominent, Edward Snowden is making headlines again. Here’s an earlier post about his horoscope. Of course we’d expect him to be making news at this time, given that all week the Sagittarius Sun has been opposing his natal Mars-Sun conjunction in Gemini and conjoining his natal Neptune. Snowden’s Sun is at 29 Gemini; his Neptune is at 27 Sagittarius — within range of the exact Aries Point & thus we expect the energy to inform and be informed (Sun in Gemini) and a vision of and/or deception/mystery/dissolution in the service of a righteous higher mindset (Neptune in Sag) to achieve prominence. Well?

Six months after a birthday is when the Sun opposes the natal Sun — this applies to everyone. We expect illumination on whatever what launched around the birthday — a.k.a. solar return. In Edward Snowden’s case, it is fascinating to note that a panel of advisers has advised President Obama to restrict the NSA’s massive surveillance of everyone and their dog — and this is a direct result of Snowden’s actions six months ago. Meanwhile, the illuminations just keep on coming.

No Moon void on Monday means no sleeping in. Get up and get organized — planetary patterns suggest you’ll have more than enough incentive…

A personal astro-logical consultation would make a lovely gift — for yourself or a special someone on your holiday shopping list. I have  festive gift certificates to email or snail mail — here’s the 411.

Gratuities are always welcome, with gratitude (what else?) for your expression of appreciation :)

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday & Saturday 11/1-2/2013: News From Underground

Should be a busy day. Whereas yesterday had only one exact planetary pattern, today we’ve got a boatload — much of the action we can expect has been covered in prior forecasts. If you happened to be up this morning at 1:26AM ET (other time zones, please do the math), you may have experienced a jolt, revelation, power play or other disruption, as the peace-seeking Libra Moon was challenged by the never-ending Uranus-Pluto square. That square, a.k.a. The Planetary Pattern Everyone Should Be Talking About, will be exact for the fourth of seven times at 7:13AM ET; it’s happening with rebel Uranus at 9 degrees of Aries and ruthless Pluto at 9 degrees of Capricorn.

If you were born 8-10 days into Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn or if you have a planet or angle around 8-10 degrees of those signs, you are feeling the push for emancipation and empowerment more than most. The fifth exact square will be on April 21, 2014…at 13 degrees of Aries and Capricorn.

As discussed yesterday, along with the buzz of Uranus-Pluto, this day offers much potential for serious focus and revelations as a result of investigation — perhaps driven by idealism. I’m already seeing plenty of “news from underground”, including a tunnel used for smuggling discovered at the U.S. – Mexican border. Also, a notorious “architect of the Holocaust” who escaped capture in 1945 is now believed to have been killed and buried in a Jewish cemetery in that same year.  And if you’ve been following the phone hacking scandal in the UK involving editors of newspapers controlled by Rupert Murdoch, you would have learned yesterday that two of the editors now on trial — Rebekah Brooks and Andy Coulson — had a secret, six year-long affair. And all three of these stories are on the homepage of the New York Times right now as I type. Coincidence or conspiracy?

Meanwhile, I am delighted to find Edward Snowden back in the headlines simply because I expected him to be making news as a result of some reach of ambition around Halloween. What has he done? Well, apparently, he’s gotten a new job. What’s going on in his horoscope? Believe me, planetary patterns are loud and clear. Would you like to know what’s going on in your horoscope? Consult your local astrologer for details.

Last but not least, you may recall an article posted earlier this week about the dire challenges we face as a result of climate change. As a follow up, here’s how that crisis may impact investors, according to Al Gore. If you happen to be an investor, read that article and learn how to avoid the “carbon bubble”. You’re welcome. There’s a gold “Donate” button to the left of this forecast on this page if you’d like to make a donation, with gratitude — so I don’t run out of midnight oil. Is it too late to say “Trick or treat!?”

On Saturday, the Libra Moon is void from 8:47AM – 1:35PM ET. After that, Moon will be in Scorpio, looking to fulfill its need for depth and substance. Patterns are light; your Saturday date night is aided and abetted by a dreamy connection between the Moon and nebulous Neptune. Don’t forget to turn your clocks back one hour, as Daylight Savings Time officially ends at 2AM ET on Sunday. The new lunar cycle begins at 7:50AM ET — in Scorpio — and it’s also an eclipse. I’ll write about that later this weekend. Stay tuned…

Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 8/1/2013: Breakouts, Breakthroughs & the Next Few Days

Buzz, buzz, buzz…the information buzz of a stimulated Gemini Moon continues today. A self-indulgent challenge to Venus (women, money, beauty) and a harmonious connection with the proud Leo Sun are two reasons why you could wake up with a big smile on your face. I don’t know about you, but on my morning commute I noted hardly any horn honking and no jams at all. I hope your travels were equally pleasant.

Also adding to the cooperative spirit, especially among normally warring factions, is a lovely connection between Venus (women, social expression) and Mars (men, action/aggression), exact on Friday at 4:35PM ET. How fortunate for those of you with dates and other social engagements this weekend, as making love and peace becomes — for a brief moment — more important than making war. Why, even the warring factions in Congress managed to get something done yesterday, when they voted to reset and cap rates on student loans. Meanwhile, a debate on chivalry and other social graces was posted on the NYT homepage….and not a moment too soon.

We are in the balsamic phase of the lunar cycle. This is a time to wrap up projects from your New Moon agenda; the next New Moon happens Tuesday evening (ET). Ship it if you can by 12:48PM ET, when the Moon goes void-of-course until just after midnight on Saturday. Otherwise, be prepared for a restless lull best suited to chilling out, creative brainstorming and drafting (but not signing or sealing) and contemplating the stunning breakthroughs and breakouts we’ve witnessed in the past several days. You really know what I’m talking about in your own personal world if you have a planet or point around 9-13 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn…or if you have a significant planet or point at around 4-7 degrees of Scorpio, Aquarius, Leo and Taurus. Been busy, have you?

With yesterday’s challenge between action-hero Mars and rebel Uranus, exact last night around 11PM ET, we expected breakouts, breakthroughs and a bit of bad (rash, reckless) behavior. How fascinating to wake up this morning and read that Edward Snowden has been granted temporary asylum in Russia, releasing him from the confines of the Moscow airport transit zone. In a related story, details of the XKeystore program were also released. This is the genius bit of technology that allows an entity such as the NSA to collect “nearly everything a user does on the Internet”. Also in technology: a “milestone” is reached by a company that converts waste matter into fuel — potentially way cool. Another breakout making headlines: convicted felon OJ Simpson was granted partial parole — but he’s not going anywhere anytime soon. Also going “nowhere”, but still making breakout headlines:  in Texas, George Zimmerman was pulled over for speeding — and yes, he had his gun with him (students of astrology will note the position of Saturn and Uranus to the angles of the chart for traffic stop: 12:54PM CT 7/31/13 in Forney, Texas). Reckless behavior headed for a full stop?

Last, but not least — this just in from outer space (also a Mars-Uranus concern) or at least some outer dimension. Sound healer Tom Kenyon posted the latest missive from a group of disembodied entities who call themselves The Hathors. Someone turned me on to Kenyon’s website ten years ago, and what I found fascinating was that whatever the Hathors had to say was always in tune with planetary patterns. What they talk about in terms of climate change, government/institutional breakdowns & breakthroughs — and especially the crisis in spiritual evolution and consciousness that we face collectively on Planet Earth — is mirrored by the ongoing Uranus-Pluto square and other significant alignments, etc., etc.  What they als0 offer (via Kenyon) is a number of practical meditation techniques to keep you grounded and clear in these challenging times. That is why I find their posts relevant and helpful. If you decide to check out the The Hathors, I recommend starting with the first posts on Kenyon’s site. Their recent posts explaining how they see the true nature of physical reality and how human souls are connected energetically to that which we do not ordinarily perceive, may be daunting. However, the latest post is pretty self-contained.  You’ll have plenty of material to explore and maybe try a meditation over the next two days, during this verrrrrry long Moon-void. Enjoy whatever twists and surprises crop up in your journey…

Astro-logical Forecast for Saturday & Sunday 7/13-14/2013: Mars in Cancer, Edward Snowden and More…

The Moon has been in perfectionist, analytical Virgo since Thursday evening ET. Combined with Mercury’s retrograde, it offers a superb opportunity for sorting through that closet or box of papers you’ve been carting around since 1987. You could also use this time to review a project you abandoned; perhaps a second look will inspire you to bring it to completion.

Let yourself rest, chill and/or wander as of 11:26AM ET Saturday, when the Moon goes void on a communicative connection with the Cancer Sun. Voids offer natural breaks in our efforts to move forward in a straight line. Picture a car engine idling in neutral. When the Moon enters the next sign — in this case it will be Libra, at 3:41AM ET on Sunday — that’s when the clutch engages and the car can move forward without voidy twists and detours. I have said this before; I’ll say it again: be especially mindful while in transit, given that 1) Mercury is also retrograde and 2) Mars is in an especially willful and potentially over-the-top condition, as in “exuberant action”.

When the Moon does enter Libra, its quest for peace, balance and social graces may be disrupted by that willful Mars at 4:42AM ET. Arguments and other outbursts that upset our equilibrium are likely. Seven hours later, a likely dose of excess (down side) or good cheer (up side), is suggested by Moon’s challenge from expansive Jupiter. Another potential for upsets, breakthroughs and power plays is suggested on Sunday evening/early Monday when the Libra Moon is jarred by rebel Uranus and ruthless Pluto. Random fun fact: the great English novelist Jane Austen has Moon in Libra, and if you’ve read any of her books you’ll get immediately how the Libra Moon’s need to be concerned with relationship, manners, being socially accepted, etc. manifested in her work.

The big astro-news for the weekend happens at 9:22AM ET Saturday, when Mars enters Cancer. Weepy, watery emotional security-needing Cancer and fiery, physical, trail-blazing Mars make a challenging combination. We can expect more headlines about actions taken for the sake of family/homeland security over the next few weeks. Whereas Mars in Gemini is more likely to take action based on an idea; Mars in Cancer takes action based on feelings — and it is not always direct. In two weeks, when Mars will square Uranus and oppose Pluto, we can expect some explosive actions driven by said feelings. If you have a planet or angle between 8 and 13 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn, you’ll be more affected by the volatility than most.

And now the news…

First, had I posted a forecast on Friday, I would have written that we could expect to hear from Edward Snowden. Why? Because transiting Mars was at 29 Gemini, conjunct his Sun at the prominent Aries Point. Mars had just hit his natal Mars (will, action)  and North Node (meetings, the public) and opposed his Neptune (the dream). And there he was Friday morning, right on schedule, having a press conference and making a formal request for asylum. He also made a statement explaining his decision to tell the entire free world how much it is under surveillance by its government and corporate institutions — and this is what he said.

Second, reflecting the Moon in Virgo’s need for exacting detail, critical analysis and uncompromising perfection, you gotta love California Congressman Mark Takano. He has Moon in Virgo with Sun in opinionated Sagittarius. He also has a razor-sharp square betwen mental Mercury and ruthless Pluto. Mercury-Pluto aspects do not mince words. Takano taught high school for many years, so when a few of his Congressional colleagues asked him to sign a letter to Speaker John Boehner about an upcoming immigration bill, he marked up the letter as if it were submitted by one of his students , questioning its flawed logic and compositional structure. Then he posted it on his supercool Tumblr blog with a big, red “F”. Did I mention Takano also has Mars in Cancer (actions based on feelings; perhaps indirect)  in a militant and disciplined opposition to Saturn? You better mind your Ps and Qs around  Rep. Takano.

Third, a classic Mercury retrograde cautionary tale about the need to double check everything before you hit “send”, as well as not believe everything you hear in the news. It’s an epic fail by KTVU in San Francisco, reporting this story about the pilots on board Asiana Airlines 214. Do not watch this video whilst drinking coffee — you have been warned.

Fourth, you may recall a few weeks ago, when the stock market had its worst day of 2013, some were freaking out, wondering if markets would fall further. I noted that from an astro-logical perspective, it seemed highly unlikely that this would happen in the US in the immediate future, given that the US horoscope was about to experience a Jupiter transit that usually is accompanied by luck and expansion, often of a material kind. That, and a couple of other relevant planetary patterns. Let the record show that the US markets hit record highs on Thursday and Friday. Let the record also show that Jupiter was last in Cancer from July 2001 to early September 2002 — and boy, did the US have the support of just about everyone back then. Coincidence or conspiracy?

Finally, as you may be subjected to frustrating headlines about various power plays over the weekend, here are a few stories of people who faced horrific bullying efforts and came back swinging. In Norway, 27 of the survivors of a politically-motivated shooting rampage that killed 69 people are...running for office.  These political candidates are young! Sixteen year-old Malala Yousafzai, who survived an assassin’s effort to silence her campaign for the education of girls in Afghanistan, spoke at the United Nations yesterday, and it was awesome. In Washington, the DC Council passed a “living wage” bill despite an ultimatum from WalMart threatening dire consequences….not to mention billionaire Charles Koch declaring that eliminating the minimum wage will “help the poor”  (one day we’ll look at his horoscope). Ironically, the story about Charles Koch came out the same day as this item about a Saudi princess living in California arrested for holding her Kenyan maidservant (paid $220/month) hostage in her home.  Comedian Chris Rock has a few choice words about minimum wage…and work is such a Moon in Virgo concern, doncha’ know…

Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 6/25/2013: Jupiter in Cancer; Edward Snowden

Moon entered Aquarius as of 3:09AM ET, seeking to make a friendly connection and be of social significance. We can expect a challenge — or a stubborn clash — perhaps from someone with a ruthless authoritarian agenda this morning, as stern Saturn in Scorpio squares the Moon. Who’s raining on your parade now? This is the only exact aspect we have today until just before midnight, when Moon makes a communicative connection to unconventional Uranus (which rules Aquarius). Think outside the box.

Also of note: Jupiter, which needs to expand whatever it touches, leaves fickle, airy, information overload Gemini tonight at 9:40PM ET, where it’s been for about a year. It’ll plunge into the watery, emotional and financial security-seeking Cancer, which should make all of you Crabs very happy. You’re about to experience a boost of expansive, optimistic energy to your natal Sun, which only happens once every 12 years. Be alert for opportunities to expand your horizons, with the feeling of having the wind at your back. This includes the United States, which is also a Cancer — with Jupiter and Venus in early Cancer, too. As I posted earlier, it’s hard to imagine feeling less than prosperous under such transits — at least in the short term.

Jupiter refers to “big picture” thinking, law, academia, broadcasting, publishing, religion, travel, etc. — so we can expect those areas to have a Cancerian focus for the next 12 months. What does Cancer care about? For starters: food, mothering, money, home, family,  emotional security and my country — right or wrong.

For the past week Jupiter has been at the Aries Point, which avid readers know is 0 degrees (the beginning) of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. Any planet at the Aries Point needs to be noticed in a big way, and isn’t it interesting that in the news we have seen a number of Jupiter-themed stories gaining prominence? Jupiter refers to the law and the courts, and we are expecting a number of high profile cases to be decided this week. Here’s one that just came down on affirmative action. Here’s another — this one upholding the civil rights of a transgender child.  Jupiter also refers to the liver and the pancreas — check out this link for a breakthrough on the treatment of diabetes. As noted, Jupiter refers to publishing, and all last week, the publishing of information (Gemini) has certainly been prominent in the news.

Get it off your desk today, as not only will the Moon be void of course ALL DAY from 9:06AM ET – 4:32AM ET Thursday, but Mercury will be turning retrograde as well. BACK UP YOUR COMPUTERS NOW!! I don’t know about you, but I noted more than the usual communication snafus and traffic jams last week, and I am thinking that this Mercury retrograde period (June 26th – July 20th) will try our patience more than most. Certainly this Moon void tomorrow is likely to offer plenty of challenges to your patience, as in all that hard work you’re going to do may end up going nowhere. Chill if you can.

Right. Edward Snowden. Because a reader asked for it in an email I received yesterday, which also contained the question, “What will happen to Snowden during Mercury retrograde”? I ran a chart for the time I received the question, and the suggestion was that it too soon to tell. Fascinatingly, nebulous Neptune was sitting exactly at the top of the chart, suggesting a fog of mystery/illusion/confusion. And as of yesterday afternoon, he has “disappeared”.

We now have an official birth time for Snowden and thus an accurate horoscope. Born Jun 21, 1983 at 4:42AM in Elizabeth City, NC, Snowden is a Gemini with the Sun at 29 degreess of Gemini, which places it at — very good, class — the Aries Point. Immediately we expect he will gain prominence in life, probably for just being who he is. This Sun is in the First House of ego identity (he’s a “personality”) and it rules the 4th House, which refers to the homeland. Indeed. The Moon is in Scorpio, in the 6th House, ruling the 2nd and 3rd, suggesting a need to be of service, a need for communication and a concern with worth/assets,  as it also seeks to be of depth and substance, through knowledge which affords power and control.  A potentially self-indulgent square to the Moon from Venus in regal Leo suggests a need for drama in social expression.

The overall layout of planets in this horoscope suggests a need for a defensive posture. Why? We’d have to have a chat with Edward about his childhood, and I am not going to write about those speculations now. I am fascinated to note another defensive structure: a Air Grand Trine involving a Sun-Mars conjunction…trine to Saturn-Pluto in late Libra…trine to the Aquarius MC. This suggests a closed circuitry involving the intellect, likely experienced by others as elitism expressed as a readiness to dismiss what anyone else thinks or has to say. Would you believe the United States has a similar pattern in its horoscope?

Astrologer Linda Goodman observed that both Gemini and Scorpio like to wear masks, which is one reason they may be so fascinated with each other. And perhaps in an individual horoscope, an emphasis on these two signs may produce a fascination with the self. Snowden’s Ascendant is also Gemini, suggesting a need to be seen as someone who is clever, intense, diversified and informed. Mercury, which rules Gemini and thus Snowden’s Ascendant, is well-placed in Gemini and is conjunct the Ascendant. It’s in the 12th house, not the 1st, suggesting a need for communication and a mindset that has a behind-the-scenes or insider’s perspective. Brilliance, an aptitude for technology and restlessness, nerves and a need for intellectual risks are suggested by a strong opposition to Mercury/ASC from Uranus and expansive Jupiter in high-flying, righteous, opinionated Sagittarius. A need for risk and excitement in relationship/vocation, as well as a need to publish are suggested by patterns involving Snowden’s Sun/Moon midpoint.

Back to Snowden’s Gemini Sun. It is augmented by a conjunction from Mars and the nodal axis. This suggests he needs to be a firebrand, trumpeting a social cause, connecting with the public. This conjunction is opposed by nebulous Neptune in the 7th house, which is reflected by his “man of mystery” persona. In the 7th, Neptune suggests a need to make sacrifices in relationship, not unlike those of a martyr. Neptune in touch with Mars offers charisma, glamour, magnetism. It can also be dreamy, visionary, delusional or fanatical. Again — look no further than the horoscope of the United States for a strong Mars-Neptune connection, reflected in our collective need for “the American Dream”….and other illusions we may present to the world. It is interesting to note that our current and last two presidents have strong Neptunes in their horoscopes. Last week, we talk about Bill Clinton’s Mars-Neptune patterns. In George W. Bush’s horoscope, we have either a weak Sun-Neptune square or Neptune is simply running away with the persona. Barack Obama has a definite Sun-Neptune square in his horoscope. How often have people wondered who he really is and what he really stands for? Neptune tends to dissolve whatever it touches. Neptune in touch with Sun, suggests a bewildering and/or idealized sense of identity….and plenty of pixiedust.

There’s more to write on Snowden, so stay tuned. And have a fabulous day!

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 6/24/2013: Capricorn Super Moon & Fallout

On Sunday at 4:08AM ET, Moon entered the enterprising sign of Capricorn, where it needs — as I learned from  astrologer Noel Tyl — to Make Things Happen. Three and a half hours later, that Moon waxed full at 3 degrees of Capricorn, very close to the prominent Aries Point. Avid readers of this forecast will recall that the Aries Point corresponds to the solstice and equinox points: 0 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. Perhaps that’s why everyone and their dog was talking about this Full Moon being a Super Moon, as if it was a completely new and rare phenomenon, which it is not. They happen every year and more than once. Astrologer Richard Nolle coined the term”SuperMoon” in 1979 — here’s his explanation of what can be expected when the Moon is closerthanthis to Earth. Still, it is pretty darn awesome that an awareness of Something Planetary is being reflected so strongly by the general public. It bodes well for astrologers…. : )

You can charge ahead with a few caveats today, using the proactive energy of the Capricorn Moon to fuel your ambition. Be aware, however, that communications are subject to more than the usual snafus, given that Mercury is about to turn retrograde on Wednesday. Back to today: as evening approaches, the potential for a clash between an idealistic wish for emotional comfort and security may be smacked down by impersonal authority — or someone insisting on following the company policy or party line, as mental Mercury opposes the Moon at 4:20PM ET. We’ll get a break in the action as the Moon goes void at 10:24PM ET, not to enter the next sign, Aquarius, until 3:26AM ET. Take the evening off!

Now, about that Super Moon. The Full Moon was exact at Sunday 7:32AM ET at 3 degrees of Capricorn. We would have expected an easy flow of communication for transcendent/spiritual/healing purposes, especially with persons and/or institutions of authority. We would have expected a stunning upset and/or power play referring to an enterprising ambition, as the Moon was challenged by ruthless Pluto and rebel Uranus in the evening hours, ET time.  I’d argue that one reflection of these patterns was daredevil Nik Wallenda’s successful tightrope walk across the (sort of) Grand Canyon, notable for Wallenda’s constant state of audible prayer. Talk about an easy flow of communication with a higher authority!

We would have expected illumination and/or release on your New Moon agenda (can you remember what that was on June 8th), which was reflected in the Sabian Symbol for 19 degrees of Gemini: “a large archaic volume reveals a traditional wisdom”. In other words, volumes and volumes of data collected and stored, reflecting the consciousness and value systems of the people collecting it.  And that is one big question with a Book of Secrets or Akashic Records or any such text: who is deemed wise and/or responsible enough to be privy to the knowledge contained therein. Everyone? High priests and priestesses? Governments and corporations? Knowledge is a powerful thing, with compelling and sometimes terrible and perhaps even unjust consequences, as anyone who has read the Book of Genesis can tell you.

Given the above Sabian Symbol, one poster child for this lunar cycle has to be Edward Snowden, the former Booz Allen systems analyst who journeyed to Hong Kong, where he met with reporters from the UK paper The Guardian and informed the entire Free World what sort of data private contractors like Booz Allen have been collecting, paid for by US taxpayer dollars.   It is fascinating that the Full Moon coincided with another bold move in this saga,  and so are its Sabian Symbols. For the Sun at 3 degrees of Cancer: “a man bundled up in fur, leading a shaggy deer”. For the Moon at 3 degrees of Capricorn:  (for the Sun at 3 Cancer) and “the human soul receptive to growth and understanding” (3 Capricorn).

I wish I could quote all four paragraphs Sabian Symbol guru Blain Bovee has penned about these  intriguing symbols; as always, I recommend you get his book.  But briefly, for the man bundled up in fur (3 Cancer), Bovee suggests “an image of rugged individuality in a cold environment”;  the “human soul” image of 3 Capricorn is self-explanatory.  One of these symbols is closed/defensive; the other is open and receptive, and therein lies the polarity/opposition suggested by any Full Moon.  In your own personal world, Bovee suggests these symbols may manifest as an awareness of  “creative potentials that cook within” or as a sense of personal identity that is at once between the perils of experience (life’s harsh realities) and the soul (who you are in spite of said external realities). Bottom line: in light of these challenging — perhaps even perilous — times, we are being presented with an opportunity for a greater understanding and appreciation of what really and truly ties us all together.

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 6/12/2013: Let It Shine; Belated New Moon in Gemini

Finally the Moon is in gear, having entered the fiery, regal, organizing, playful sign of Leo at 12:58AM ET this morning. Find way to shine and help others shine, too! A helpful authority or a stern wet blanket may dampen your enthusiasm or modify your plans around 11:41AM, when Moon is challenged by disciplined Saturn.

As the day progresses, may you reap the benefits of a cooperative connection between the Moon and assertive Mars in Gemini, suggesting an easy flow between will and action. Minutes later, we’ll have the exact square between Venus (social expression) in Cancer (emotional security, homeland) and rebel Uranus in me-me-me pioneering Aries. Many of us were feeling the disruptive potential of that aspect during yesterday’s void, as I heard several reports of startling communication and/or emotional outbursts. The plus side of Venus-Uranus contacts include appreciation and attraction to unconventional expressions in relationships, as well as technical and creative breakthroughs.

As for the New Moon in Gemini which was exact at 11:56AM ET on Saturday, now that the Moon is no longer void, you can take some steps in your New Moon agenda. The New Moon offers us an opportunity to re-set  intentions and goals for the next lunar cycle. This week is about planting seeds to turn your intentions into reality. Around the 16th, on the First Quarter Moon, we can expect a challenge to those goals, with appropriate adjustments made. At the time of the Full Moon on the 23rd , we can expect illumination on the success or failure of our goals for the cycle. If we succeeded, we can consciously release our success into our reality; if we failed, we let go of whatever did not work. After the Third Quarter Moon on the 30th, we can review our achievements, tie up loose ends and get ready to begin another New Moon on July 8th.

I’ve broken down the patterns active in this New Moon in prior forecasts (read last week’s and today). They include the pixie-dust, magical and /or delusional potential of the square between Mars and Neptune and two Grand Water Trines involving Mercury, Venus, Saturn and Neptune, which offer the potential for inspired and structured visionary thinking and social expression. On the potential downside, we could see efforts to contain and control these issues. And of course we can’t forget the ongoing square between rebel Uranus and ruthless Pluto, which is hellbent on challenging the Established Order.

This New Moon happened at 19 degrees of Gemini, and it might feel somewhat familiar. Why? Because we had a Full Moon and lunar eclipse at 19 Gemini/Sagittarius in December of 2011. In light of the story dominating the news in the US, which involves one Edward Snowden’s “revelation” that our intelligence agencies are compiling all sorts of data on apparently anyone and everyone, including information that you, as a private citizen, might find intrusive and unwarranted, you will love the Sabian Symbol for 19 Gemini: “a large archaic volume reveals a traditional wisdom”.

In this case, I went to my Dane Rudhyar reference book, “An Astrological Mandala: The Cycle and Transformations and Its 360 Symbolic Phases” for more on this Sabian Symbol. The “archaic volume” suggests a “reserve of collective knowledge and wisdom beyond true individual self-expression,” and “deference to past experience.” But beyond just being a collection of data (like a phone book or record of your personal phone calls), a higher potential suggested by this symbol would be an engaged discussion of what will be the “seed ideas” that will define our collective thought and thus our collective action. What do we value and how will we grow in that direction?

You are more affected by this New Moon than most if you have a planet or an angle at 19 degrees of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces.

When you watch the video of Edward Snowden explaining why he did what he did  (see link above), you’ll notice a cool, steady gaze (along with a bit of tension in the jaw — not surprisingly). Snowden is a Gemini, but that gaze suggested Scorpio, and sure enough, his Moon is in Scorpio, suggesting a need and/or awareness for depth and substance, as well as information used for the sake of power and control. More on him later
