Last night the Gemini Moon made contact with jolly Jupiter at 8:04PM ET, suggesting a buoyant mood that will carry us through today. Did you buy your lottery tickets? Of course it was a mad frenzy with Jupiter conjunct the Moon. People are thinking BIG!
The hook-up with Jupiter is the last planetary connection Moon will make while it is in Gemini…and…having made that last contact, the Moon is now said to be “void-of-course” until it enters the next sign (Cancer) at 8:55AM ET on FRIDAY. Everybody clear on that? This loooooong period of the Moon DWV (Driving While Void) suggests a natural break in the action — for you, for me, for everyone. Chill if you can. Meditate. Cogitate. Do something playful that engages your mind in an informative way, but without any expectation of results. If you are Barack Obama, invite Mitt Romney to lunch. Sure, the flake factor is higher during Moon voids, as well as surprise twists in efforts to move forward in a straight line. But the press won’t be there, so who cares? Plus, aggressive Mars has moved past ruthless Pluto, and is now in a cooperative, communicative and downright appealing connection with loving Venus. Very smart!
People are still googling “Mitt Romney horoscope,” wondering what opportunities may be in store. Well, he’s just had a classic “ego wipeout”. This term was coined by astrologer Noel Tyl and has been discussed in prior forecasts. Nebulous Neptune symbolically shrouded Mr. Romney’s personal projection, self-image and mindset in a rapturous rose-colored fog; many were bedazzled; many more were bewildered — and in the end, it was nothing more than a dream. Wipeout. And it’s not completely over until the end of the year. Seriously, this is a classic pattern astrologers see over and over in horoscopes.
When Neptune is prominent, seeing things clearly — realistically — is often a big challenge. The love of your life turns out to be married with a family in Denver. Your business partner invested the money, lost it and did not tell you. Alcohol and drugs become verrrrry appealing. You decide to join a cult. Your Type A personality can’t find the energy to get to kick-boxing class…for an entire year. Yes, there are ways to manage these phases constructively, especially if you’re an artist or a healer. But if they are not handled constructively and the bubble bursts…wipeout!
Mr. Romney now has Saturn, the planet of “Get Real”, moving through the area of his horoscope that refers to cooperation, health, work and service. He could spend the next two years restructuring these areas and find himself in a genuinely happier place around December 2014 — with a renewed sense of purpose he’s ready to take public. Let’s all wish him well.
And now, the news. First, reflecting the theme of constructive transformation and advancement in relationship noted on Tuesday, columnist David Brooks penned a provocative piece called “How People Change”. The reader comments on this one are equally provocative. And, just in time for yesterday’s eclipse in Gemini-Sagittarius, suggesting a bottleneck in areas of information and communication, Gail Collins wrote a witty, informative (and thus very Moon-in-Gemini) piece about one of the most talked-about bottlenecks affecting the Senate: the filibuster. And here’s how some people outside of the Senate are trying to unclog this major traffic jam.
Remember, in your own personal world, the Moon is void-of-course all day.Go with the flow — even if you’re stuck in a bottleneck or jam. And if all else fails, take a really long lunch…and watch this gorgeous ten-minute film about an unusual lunch date in Grand Central Station. I guarantee this happened during a void-of-course Moon! I guarantee you will love this film!

I’ve heard more than one good report of a successful enterprise undertaken during Wednesday’s constructive aspects between mental Mercury and disciplined Saturn, as well as Sun and potent Pluto. More of the same this morning, at least until 1:48PM ET, when the Moon goes void in humanitarian Aquarius on an opposition from aforementioned Mercury. And this is where a tension may arise over some overblown thing some royal ego said, or where you may find illumination on a issue involving the one versus the many.
Whatever crisis that arises during the next few hours is likely much ado about nothing. Go with the flow until 6:31PM ET, when Moon enters Pisces, and needs to concern itself with intangibles including, but not limited to: escape, fantasy, illusion, film, glamor, deception, drugs, oil, water, spirit and vision. At 9:20PM ET, Moon conjuncts nebulous Neptune, suggesting an evening of glorious rose-colored fog…perhaps perfectly timed for when Mitt Romney takes center stage at the Republican National Convention.
You may recall prior posts noting that Romney has been experiencing heavy Neptune transits in his horoscope throughout 2012, which suggests a period of confusion, bewilderment and pixie dust illusion…or downright delusion and deception. Isn’t it interesting that these themes have repeatedly turned up in news items and commentaries about Mr. Romney, including one penned this week by conservative columnist David Brooks, former senior editor at the Weekly Standard. Warning: if you click that link and read whilst drinking coffee, I will not be held responsible for the consequences.
You may also recall that VP nominee Paul Ryan also has a strong Neptune in his horoscope: it sits right on the Ascendant, which refers to physcal appearance, personal projection, first impressions and the filter through which we see the world. This suggests reality may be a challenge. Mr. Ryan captivated audiences last night with a speech that also kept fact checkers at the New York Times thoroughly engaged: here’s what they found. And here’s a more comprehensive list of the distorted realities presented therein, courtesy of Salon.
Now you may be wondering what is it about the American collective psyche that makes us fall in love with so many political leaders that are often not what they seem to be. Remember Bill Clinton also has Neptune and Mars on the Ascendant — that can be ever so sexy and charismatic. Barack Obama has Neptune square Sun, which — especially in one’s early years — suggests a bewildered — or bewildering — sense of identity. Was he born in Kenya or born in Hawaii? Is he a Christian or a Muslim? I’m certain I know the correct answers to those questions, and I’m certain there are people who will argue that it is still a subject of debate. A lack of crystalline clarity is typical of Neptune energy. So is being hailed as a savior.
Back to the collective American psyche, which produced Hollywood glamor and lots of charismatic religious/spiritual leaders (that savior thing again). Why? Is there an astro-logical measurement in the chart of the United States which reflects that energetic pull? Yes, in fact, there is: on July 4, 1776, Neptune in Virgo was square to Mars in clever chatterbox Gemini. If the United States were a human being, you’d immediately notice a certain glamour and magnetism. That person would likely have issues with intangibles like movies, video games, drugs, spirituality, idealism, sex appeal — and DREAMS! Let’s not forgot dreams, especially The American Dream. So why do we have all these American politicians with strong Neptune in their horoscopes? I’d argue that for the collective American psyche, like attracts like.
We’ll talk about something other than politics tomorrow. Peace out.
At 7:47PM EDT the New Moon arrives at 1 degree of Gemini, along with a solar eclipse. Eclipses act as “bottlenecks” of energy. Light flowing from the Sun or Moon is temporarily interrupted, focusing attention on the interrupted point and allowing something new and possible fragile to enter the picture and grow. And here I would be thinking of Michael, the kindhearted policeman in the storybook Make Way for Ducklings, who stopped the flow of traffic on Beacon Street so Mr. and Mrs. Mallard and their brood of eight could safely make their way to the Boston Public Garden.
Of course while traffic is stopped, it’s also backing up…and when it flows again, it’s possible that some drivers may hit the gas a little too hard — and wham! — there’s a sudden release of the bottlenecked energy. If you have a planet or point at the degree of an exceptionally potent eclipse, you may feel the effects of the release of the bottleneck for months afterward — sometimes even years. And here I would be thinking of Rupert Murdoch, Rebekah Brooks and (former) Congressman Anthony Weiner, who all have a major point or planet at 11 degrees of Virgo, Pisces, Gemini and/or Sagittarius, which was impacted by last June’s eclipse at 11 Gemini. Might they have been feeling a bit “eclipsed” over the past year?
In Gemini, the New Moon suggests a focus on new ideas, new mindsets, new ways of communication and gathering information. Got that? Your thoughts and your words can move mountains; i.e., they manifest in your physical reality. Don’t believe me? Here’s an article from last week about two people paralyzed from the neck down who can now move a robotic arm with their minds. Don’t believe that thought patterns can change? Check out this collection of 23 Vintage Ads That Would Be Banned Today.
This New Moon offers us the opportunity to create a new way of positive thinking so that you can manifest a more positive reality. Don’t know how to do that? You could start by listening to this super-positive, life-affirming song by Joan Armatrading every morning. Hum it through the day and see if it changes the way you interact with your world for the better. Patterns in the chart for this New Moon strongly support visionary/revolutionary thinking and communication.
The Sabian Symbol for 1 degree of Gemini is “a glass-bottomed boat in still water”. This is an image of a self-contained, protected, transparent vessel that allows illuminating perspective into watery (emotions) depths. It’s an image that ties in nicely with the current Venus retrograde, which suggests a focus on courtesy and grace in our social expression. This image also supports nebulous Neptune, which is challenging Sun, Moon and the lunar nodes. The lunar nodes refer to the feminine and groups/associations. How can intuition, emotions and feminine/receptive principles clarify and/or change your thinking in the material world?
Interesting to note that this eclipse is almost exactly conjunct Mitt Romney’s Gemini Ascendant, using birth data of 3/12 47 9:51AM Detroit MI. This suggests Romney’s personal projection will be impacted. The eclipse is not quite as close to Barack Obama’s Moon at 3 Gemini; we may see the impact in Obama’s need to be seen as clever and informed in areas of work, service, homeland security and women. Visionary values may also be projected at this time (nebulous Neptune is almost exactly square Obama’s Moon).
This a week for big ideas! Take note of what’s flowing through your mind. And on Monday, note the potential for a clash of wills around 5:17PM ET and temper your communication accordingly.
Ease into the morning, which begins with a potentially spacey or muddy feel on the East Coast, thanks to nebulous Neptune challenging Mercury, which relates to mind, travel and communication. Take note of your dreams & let me know if yours were especially “out there”. With the Moon now in Cancer, a sign which craves emotional and homeland security, leaving your comfort zone might be difficult, and you may find yourself focused on security concerns. Watch the headlines.
Meanwhile, on the West Coast, the morning may begin with a jolt or a flash of genius, as the security-craving Moon is challenged by disruptive Uranus at 9:04AM LA time/12:04 PM NY time. The rest of the day you may be challenged by issues involving power and control. Try to respond by seeing the potential for growth offered by the challenge, even if it forces you outside your aforementioned cherished comfort zone.
Big news on Saturday is Jupiter, the cosmic sugar daddy, leaving the pioneering sign of Aries for the stabilizing sign of Taurus at 9:56AM NY time, where it will remain for a year. This is excellent news for Bulls, especially those born in the first ten days of the sign: look back to whatever was going on in your life 12 years ago — what opportunities did you have for expansion and abundance? The key words for Taurus are I HAVE. Whereas Jupiter in Aries seeks its reward in ego-recognition or the excitement of a newfangled vision (with its accompanying risk), Jupiter in Taurus is can be the one who wants to die with the most toys. Or be the one who digs in his heels and insists that vision be damned, the bottom line is the bottom line.
Sunday dawns with a Moon void from 1:33 AM – 11:03AM NY time (Saturday night hook-ups are likely to be of no consequence), followed by Moon in royal Leo. Today the focus will likely be more on having the most toys than on the bottom line. Leo Moon wants to play, and a square to Moon from expansive Jupiter can be quite grandiose (just ask Charlie Sheen). Have fun!
As for recent headlines in synch with planetary patterns, yesterday Michelle Obama 86ed the Food Pyramid and introduced its replacement, The Food Plate http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/03/business/03plate.html?_r=1&hpw So now we can all learn to think differently about something we do every single day. How’s that for a radical new mindset, as this month’s New Moon suggests?
Other headlines in synch with nebulous Neptune in Pisces pulling focus (review the New Moon forecast for details), include toxic chemicals (Neptune) in the Mississippi (Pisces) http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/03/science/earth/03runoff.html?hp ; email fraud known as spear phishing (Neptune refers to deception) http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/03/technology/03hack.html?hp and a seemingly complete non-news story about a “mysterious” shipwreck on Malibu Beach that really isn’t a mystery at all — go figure. If it’s not a slow news day, blame this on Neptune stationary retrograde in Pisces — I mean honestly, New York Times — you put this on the home page???? http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/03/us/03shipwreck.html?hp
Last but not least, Mitt Romney, a Pisces ruled by Neptune, officially declared himself in the running to be the next President of the United States. Yes, I know I still need to talk about Tim Pawlenty, so I won’t go into too much detail here — and I’ll get around to Pawlenty one day soon, I promise. But here’s what’s interesting about Mitt. Pisces, Moon in Scorpio — this is a man who needs to be seen as someone of depth and substance, who acquires knowledge for the sake of power and control. He knows people. And people like him.
What’s interesting to me is Romney’s Gemini Ascendant is currently being squared by — nebulous Neptune. And Donald Trump’s Leo Ascendant is being challenged by — nebulous Neptune. And Barack Obama’s Midheaven (the other important angle in a horoscope, referring to career and status) is being squared by — nebulous Neptune. What an interesting pattern! Glamor, intrigue, masks, mystery, confusion, delusion, deception, fantasy — or sublime spiritual sacrifice, artistic success (especially in intangible media) — these are keywords for potential manifestations of Neptune in a horoscope.
To be continued…
