Wednesday-Thursday 1/25-26: Inauguration Day; Saturn Square Venus in the News

All-righty then!

True story from yesterday’s Moon void, which occurred between 12:33 PM ET until 5:43 PM ET. Avid Reader Jane accidentally doublebooked her 1PM appt. Two clients came at the same time and she had to decide which one she would need to reschedule. Yikes! Then her 3:15 PM appt showed up at 3:45 PM — without a word of apology or acknowledgment about her tardiness. How rude, right? Turned out that this client thought her appt WAS at 3:45PM — she thought she was exactly on time — d’oh!!!  An awareness that the Moon was void helped Jane react appropriately to the “crisis” at hand  — i.e., not to turn a molehill into a mountain. She rolled with the twists and her life is stress-free as a result. Word!

Since 5:43 PM ET on Tuesday, the Moon has been in Capricorn, driving the day with an ambitious need for action. Look at the headlines and you can see that happening — as anticipated at the start of the week.  An especially steaming and prominent Mars — the symbol of action — is at the very end of Pisces,  adding to the push. It’s colored by the potentially steely or just plain cold & cruel square between Saturn in Sagittarius and Venus in Pisces, exact on Friday at 12:50PM ET.

Venus challenged by Saturn can put a stern face — literally — on matters ruled by Venus: women, art money, social expression.  Remember the “bitchy resting face” that first made headlines a few years ago? That was on another Venus-Saturn square — and noted in this forecast.  In this Venus-Saturn square, Venus is in Pisces, symbolizing empathy, vulnerability, compassion. Saturn in Sagittarius suggests a block or structure to Venus’s expression — in the form of controls based on righteous belief systems.

Is that good or bad? That depends on you. Here in the U.S., the new administration wasted no time reinstating a global gag rule that prohibits U.S. funded NGOs from providing services for — or even mentioning — abortion. Imposing controls on  vulnerable women based on a righteous belief — Venus squared by Saturn. In contrast, The Netherlands announced that it would establish an international fund for such services, countering the global gag rule. Ambitious financing program with an international reach, suggesting a compassionate approach to a women’s issue — based on a righteous belief. Venus squared by Saturn! You can decide which one is good or bad. Planetary patterns have no opinions whatsoever.

If you have a planet or angle around 24 degrees of Gemini, Virgo and especially Sag and Pisces, you are more personally affected by the steely resolve — or cuts —  of Venus squared by Saturn. Consult your local astrologer for details.

And now, the news.

First, as promised —  the chart for the inauguration of the 45th president. What does it suggest?

There’s the Sun — the essential ego energy — right at the top of the chart in Aquarius. Keywords for Aquarius are humanitarian, eccentric, fringe, innovative, genius — that’s a partial list and experience will prove which ones apply. This Sun is not connected to anything else in the chart — and this is significant. It’s just highly visible — the only truly visible planet in the chart, frankly — and it needs to attract a ton of attention for its unique social significance. We can see the potential for it to be isolated and out of step. This potential is echoed in minor patterns (midpoints) linking the Sun to other planets — in pictures suggesting optimism — but mostly acting as a free agent — and not as satisfied as one might expect.  Cue Gilbert O’Sullivan now, please. With this chart, “Alone Again — Naturally” may have been a more fitting inaugural song than “My Way.”

What needs are driving this chart? The Moon in Scorpio — seeking to fulfill its need to be seen as something of depth and control. It is planted in the daily processes of work and other routines — reaching out to control communication, mindset, home,  homeland security and family/core foundation concerns. The only planet the Moon is looking to connect with is Neptune, suggesting these potentials: vision, dream, fantasy, healing, deception, faith, drugs, oil. Moon in Scorpio can certainly be loyal, operating on its own honor code. It can also be waspish and vindictive. Not a happy place for the Moon in an event horoscope, say the traditional teachings of astrology. Especially when we notice a connection to the Moon from Mars and Saturn, suggesting potential moodiness, loss and depression.

The chart has a Taurus Ascendant, suggesting a need to present an image of material comfort and security — perhaps by building a monument symbolizing those Moon in Scorpio controlling needs.  How about a big wall? Venus (money, women, art, social expression) is strongly placed in Pisces — but is sorely challenged by Saturn. This Venus-Saturn square is the second of three patterns that the energy of this event is moving toward. Ambitious and strategic in social expression, perhaps — but chilly. No love lost here. Also of interest about this strongly placed — but challenged — Venus: a connection to Mars and Neptune that suggests a bedazzling magnetism — for better or worse.

A third aspect this event is moving toward is a harmony between Mercury (mindset; communication) and Neptune. This is a strong suggestion of rose-colored glasses, vision, idealism and/or alternative facts. So…in the context of this particular presidency, we would be advised to take whatever is said with a grain of salt. Especially when we notice that this Mercury in the chart is also connected to Saturn and Pluto, two planets suggesting possible hardcore realism and anguish.

The man who now works in the Oval Office has a square between Mercury and Neptune in his horoscope, along with a meet-up between Venus and Saturn. Isn’t it interesting that his horoscope reflects some of the patterns we see in this inauguration chart?

Other observations, in no particular order. If this were a person’s horoscope, I’d expect him to have a need to shake up the system — bigly — with a know-it-all, militant approach. The placement of Pluto in this horoscope suggests a need to mix and mingle with the Powers That Be. Another measurement suggests success with ventures involving those with power and resources — no worries at all in that regard.

Keep the analysis of this chart in mind when reading headlines this week about building walls, keeping foreigners out, issuing gag orders, freezing hiring and research grants at government agencies, deleting White House webpages about climate change and civil rights, pulling out of the TPP and possibly NAFTA and the UN. Can you see how these actions reflect the potential in the chart? Also consider these actions: defending “alternative facts” and other flat-out lies — to the point where the mainstream media is finally saying that the lies are lies.

Compared to the chart for the 115th Congress, I would argue that the inaugural chart is ultimately less potent, given that it is on a waning Moon, whereas the 115th Congress chart is a waxing Moon — something that needs to grow. And then I think back to January 2011, when I first wrote about the chart for a new Congress and observed (to myself), that it didn’t look as if Congress would be able to act effectively until 2017. Is that good or bad? Hmm. Any questions?

Obviously, we could continue to talk about this political stuff, but let’s move on.

Random observation about the stock market — given that the Dow broke 20,000 today. In late 2014 I spent time looking at some bubbles that coincided with challenging patterns between Saturn (reality) and Neptune (surreal), which I wrote about in January of 2015.  I wondered if there was a pattern that coincided with the bubble bursting. And yes, there seemed to be one. Then I looked for when that pattern might occur in the aftermath of last year’s Saturn-Neptune square  — and I did not see it happening immediately. And I thought, “Really?” And now here we are at 20,000. Amazing.

In other Saturn-Venus news — and here I would be looking for a positive application of militant ambition that seeks to advance women, not control them — photos of Sunday’s women’s marches from around the world.  Together, they added up to the largest gathering of protesters ever — in history.  Here’s another item of gravitas: ten things you did not know about the clitoris — making headlines. Meanwhile, Chelsea Manning has a few thoughts on why a militant approach to solving problems is preferable to compromise. Here’s a piece on why women quit working — and it’s not for the reasons men do.

Another Venus-Saturn story — not uplifting, I’m afraid. Mary Tyler Moore has passed away — here is her horoscope — and you can see that her Midheaven is 21 Sagittarius — hit by Saturn at the end of December. Right now she is being hailed in obits as a feminist icon…as this appreciative NYT article explains.   This NYT article has culled seven of the finest episodes of the Mary Tyler Moore Show for your thoughtful entertainment. Mary Tyler Moore was a trailblazer. Her alter ego — Mary Richards — would have marched on Washington last Saturday. RIP.

Thank you for reading this forecast. Here’s the 411 on personal consultations. We will have an excellent discussion together.

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 5/11/2015: Mars in Gemini; Frida Kahlo & the Rest of the Week

Good Morning!

Mixed messages from the cosmos at 6:36AM ET, as the humanitarian Aquarius Moon squares the Taurus Sun. Squares are energetic aspects — pushing an agenda forward. What are you all fired up to do?

Perhaps it has something to do with the third stage of the New Moon agenda you set three weeks ago. Whatever it is, be advised that right after the Sun-Moon square, the Moon will be void until 10:53PM ET. This suggests twists or delays in your efforts to move forward in a straight line. Knowing about voids is an awesome way to prevent panic attacks and other imagined crises if things aren’t going as planned. There’s a higher flake factor during Moon voids, e.g., appointments cancelling or meetings wandering off into another dimension. Chill and roll with it — and you’ll be just fine.

Mars is the Planet of Week. Mars refers to action! It leaves slow and stubborn Taurus for Gemini at 10:40PM ET. Mars in Gemini is great for multitasking and getting the word out. Game plans may become more flexible. And they darn well better be clever and entertaining.

If you have a planet at around 2 degrees of Virgo, Pisces and especially Gemini or Sagittarius, you will be more personally affected by Mars this week. That planet (or your Ascendant or your Midheaven) is likely to be energized — for better or for worse. You may find yourself compelled to take action. Or, if you’re suppressing your inner action hero, you may attract someone or something who takes action on you.

By Friday, Mars will have moved into a challenging face-off with Saturn, currently at 2 Sagittarius. Mars-Saturn patterns suggest disciplined, militant action and ambition — for better or for worse. So look for those themes in the headlines. And if your own horoscope is personally affected, may you use that disciplined push for a cause with higher consciousness.

If you don’t know what degrees your planets are at, consider ordering the Astro-Basics Report. In addition to the computer-generated report of where everything is and what it means, I will include a personal note identifying the planet in your horoscope that is the key to fulfilling your potential in this lifetime.

This is the week to BACK UP YOUR COMPUTERS and other gizmos, as Mercury turns retrograde at 9:50PM ET next Monday, May 18th. No whinging will be permitted! Mercury retrograde periods provide absolutely fantastic opportunities for certain things. There is no reason to sweat the snafus and miscommunications that may arise. Here’s the survival guide I posted for the last Mercury retrograde — in January. I will re-post and update it on Monday.

Moon voids for the week, other than today’s long wandering drift: Wednesday 12:55PM – 1:13AM ET on THURSDAY; Friday 8:03AM ET until 3:02AM ET on SATURDAY.

And now, the news.

Speaking of Mars and Saturn, you know who has a planet around 2 degrees of Gemini or Sagittarius — and is thus personally affected by the “disciplined, militant action and ambition potential” of Friday Mars-Saturn opposition? Barack Obama. And there he is in the headlines, “aggressively courting skeptical legislators” so they will pass a bill this week giving him accelerated powers on the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement. He even dissed Senator Elizabeth Warren and made a speech at Nike, a company notorious for outsourcing jobs. He is serious about this TPP. I wonder why.

I would now like to take this opportunity to rave about my New Balance cross-trainers, which I bought at the company store in Skowhegan, Maine. New Balance is apparently the only athletic shoe company that makes a portion of its inventory in the United States. New Balance has five manufacturing operations in the U.S. Two are in Massachusetts and three are in Maine, where my family is from. I’ve seen first-hand what happens when textile mills and shoe companies outsource production overseas. So as long as I have a choice, I’ll buy sneakers with labels that say “Made in the USA”.

This concludes the soapbox portion of this forecast.

Meanwhile, with Venus (women) at the Aries Point on Friday, some of our fearless leaders in Congress re-introduced the Equal Rights Amendment. If you are younger than a certain age, you may not know what that is. So I’ll tell you. It’s this:

“Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.”

This amendment was passed by Congress in 1972, in the wake of the Uranus-Pluto conjunction of 1965-66. Thirty-eight states needed to ratify the amendment by 1982 for it to become the law of the land. That didn’t happen. Now, in the wake of the Uranus-Pluto square, we find ourselves revisiting agendas that were hot in the mid-60s. Will we finish what was started? This is our chance.

In other news, Frida Kahlo is “having a moment”. That’s what the NYT headline says, as a clueless reporter reports:

In a welcome though unexpected convergence, an array of new books and exhibitions about Kahlo have suddenly appeared this spring, adding insight and depth to our understanding of a woman who would seem among the most overexposed artistic figures of all time.

Dear Clueless Reporter, there is nothing “unexpected” about it.  If only you had looked at Ms. Kahlo’s horoscope (or asked an astrologer for an analysis). Such “unexpected” and “sudden” prominence strongly suggest planetary patterns at work,  no doubt involving Uranus and Pluto. And in fact, in a two-second glance at the chart we’re immediately drawn to this: Neptune, Sun, and Jupiter at 12, 13 and 20 Cancer respectively…all opposing Mars and Uranus at 12 and 10 Capricorn. That intense configuration has been supercharged by Uranus and Pluto for two years. Uranus (now at 18 Aries) is just about to square her Jupiter (suggesting, usually, expanded fortune — and in Kahlo’s case, corresponds to another exhibition opening). Her 23 Leo Ascendant and 23 Taurus Midheaven have just been hit by transiting Sun and Mars; Jupiter will hit her angles in July (more expansion); transiting Scorpio opposed her Midheaven last fall…..all adding up to prominence, expansion, revelation, empowerment, with a focus on personal/domestic concerns, even for a woman as “overexposed” as Ms. Kahlo (and even though she is no longer among the living). Horoscopes live forever!

To find out when your horoscope is scheduled for a period of expansion and empowerment, here’s the 411 on personal consultations. I look forward to an excellent discussion with you soon.

Thank you for reading this forecast.

Update: Before Mars hits President Obama’s 3 degree Gemini Moon, it opposed his 28 degree Scorpio Midheaven over the weekend. Mars suggests action — and also provocation, attack and/or an outburst. How interesting to stumble across a provocative story by Seymour Hersh, alleging that a lot of what you may have seen in Zero Dark Thirty is fiction, and that President Obama lied about what really happened in Abottabad the night Osama bin Laden was killed. On the other hand, the story was published on a square between Neptune and Mercury, which can be pretty surreal (or untrue).  We will see this Merucry-Neptune pattern again on May 29 and June 23. It will be interesting to see if there are further developments on this story then.

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday & The Weekend: The News is The News; President Obama Update

Moon continues its sojourn through Sagittarius today, armed with a spirit of high-flying righteousness. The need to expand horizons may be tripped up by the adjustments required by Mercury’s change of direction — forward, now — on Wednesday. Sorry, travelers, but United won’t honor that $70 first-class ticket from Heathrow to Newark you thought you’d scored, thanks to a computer glitch. Meanwhile, Jeb Bush and his staff scrambled to redact a boatload of sensitive personal data of Florida constituents that was inadvertently released (because no one bothered to read it before they hit “send”). Oops.

This isn’t the only tech headache Mr. Bush has suffered in recent days. With Saturn also in Sagittarius, serious consideration of the opinions we spout — with swift karmic consequences — can be expected.   Just ask Justine Sacco, who made headlines last year when a “stupid Tweet blew up her life”. Her story can be read in this Sunday’s NYT magazine.

A friendly, techy connection to the Moon from Uranus around 1PM ET today, followed by an expansive connection to Jupiter at 6:07PM ET suggests a lighter vibe than yesterday. If you wake up itching for a fight tomorrow, you may be living out the potential of a combative connection between the Moon and aggressive Mars. See if you can channel that passion into something better suited for Valentine’s Day. However far out your exploration takes you is likely to be of no consequence , and sometimes that can be a good thing. The Moon goes void at 10:15AM ET,  not to enter Capricorn until 5:24PM ET. Chill, avoid the malls and enjoy the wandering adventure.

Dinner with your Valentine on a night with Moon in Capricorn may not be the most romantic backdrop, but all of the props should be in place, as Capricorn strives to make things happen. Expect whatever is de rigueur. On the other hand, a meet-up between Venus and Mars in Pisces (exact next Sunday, but in effect now) suggests soulful passion. On the other hand, Pisces does refer to victimization, and Capricorn is a masterful user. You’re not really going to see That Movie, are you?

Sunday features a dreamy alignment between Moon and Neptune — lovely for lingering. If you’re using part of the holiday weekend to take care of practical chores, go for it in the afternoon, but be aware that the Moon makes its weekly clash with Uranus and Pluto between 4:30PM and 6PM ET, suggesting sudden jolts, power plays and other emotional charges. Monday’s patterns are lighter, and there’s another Moon void between 3:17PM and 7:13PM ET, after which Moon enters quirky, friendly Aquarius.

And now, the news.

And again, news is The News, courtesy of Saturn in Sagittarius (potential reality check for the media), challenged as it is now by Neptune in Pisces (visionaries, dreamers, frauds, victims, martyrs).  First, we find out we’re losing our favorite fake newsman (Jon Stewart, whom we take more seriously than most real ones). Then our favorite real newsman turns out to be not-so-real and he’s out, too (Brian Williams, for at least six months). And then, on Wednesday, we lose a seriously real newsman, Bob Simon, whom you may know from CBS’s  venerable 60 Minutes.

Mr. Simon was killed in an accident.  The driver of his Town Car hit another car that was stopped at a light. I looked at the chart for the time of the accident: Saturn and Neptune  are exactly on the angles of the chart, suggesting confusion, with grave consequences. Freaky. And there’s more: on Thursday night’s heavy meet-up between the Moon and Saturn, highly respected NYT columnist David Carr — whose beat was the media (Sagittarius!)  — suddenly passed away. Mr. Carr’s own life story has plenty of shades of Neptune (addiction & redemption) and Saturn (authority, gravitas). Two tributes published today are well worth the read:  here and here.  The writing is beautiful.

Briefly — because I’d like to get this posted by 9AM ET — an update on President Obama’s horoscope and how recent actions reflected the expansive reach suggested by last week’s 17 degree  Aquarius Sun-Jupiter in Leo opposition. You will note that the President’s Ascendant is 18 Aquarius. We noted months ago that  he was likely to be “at the top of his game” with transiting Saturn at the top of his chart in Nov-Dec 2014 (surprise, surprise — but not to astrologers)…and again this summer. We should also note that transiting Saturn in Sagittarius has just made the first of three oppositions to his 3 Gemini Moon, reinforcing a need for ambition and advance. Right after that Sun-Jupiter opposition, the President asked Congress for “expansive authorization to combat ISIL

Oh, there is so much more to report. But let’s stop for now and end on a horizon-expanding story about how, like humans, plants are all connected,  too– but by an underground network of fungus. It’s really neat.

And now this story won’t post until 10AM, because if I don’t take time to proof it, I won’t be able to correct half of the typos. Enjoy and have a wonderful holiday weekend!

What’s going on your horoscope?  Find out in a personal astro-logical consultation. We will have an excellent discussion together.
