Friday 11/17/2017 & the Weekend: New Moon in Scorpio; Contents Under Pressure

TGIF!

The end of the work week is driven by the Moon in moody bastard Scorpio, where it has sought to be appreciated for its depth and control since early Thursday. How many people bit your head off today?

This Moon is also dead — the New Moon hits SATURDAY at 6:42 AM ET. In the last days of the lunar cycle, wrap up projects started a month ago. Recognize that any restlessness or listlessness is reflecting the intuitive awareness that something new is around the corner — we just don’t know what.

Moon goes void on Saturday’s New Moon and does not enter Sagittarius until 1:59 PM ET. If you sleep in or flake out until after lunch, no harm, no foul…and NO impulse shopping. Once the Moon shifts into Sag, see if you notice a change in mood: lighter, fiery, enthusiastic in its need to express opinion and/or push boundaries. Take a walk in nature; think outside the box; entertain a foreign perspective; wax philosophical.

The Big Caveat of the weekend — felt in the past few days — is the exact square between Mars (action, aggression, guns) and Pluto (power, destruction). That happens at 7:11 AM ET on SUNDAY and it’s the strongest pattern in the New Moon chart, setting the tone for the next lunar cycle. Here are examples of headlines from past Mars-Pluto squares. Explosive action — perhaps involving Libra and Capricorn issues of fairness, legal theory, diplomacy, energy resources and news from underground — that’s what I’m thinking.

You are feeling the aggressive edge more personally if you have a planet or angle around 17 degrees of Libra, Capricorn, Aries or Cancer. Breathe deep and count to 50 before starting World War III. Note that P45 has Jupiter at 17 Libra; Jupiter refers to expansion. Aggressive expansion involving power and resources — with a big international spin — would be on the agenda right about now. How about wiping elephants off the face of the Earth? Apparently this is all Hillary’s fault.  Or not. The lift on the ban has just been reversed. Score one for the elephants. After all, they’re big. Like Jupiter. How about this, “T—– made millions of dollars from drug money laundering in Panama,” reports Newsweek.

On Sunday, a potentially bewildering tension between Moon and Neptune may reflect a desperate need for a beautiful escape. No sleeping in on MONDAY. The Sagittarius Moon won’t go void until 7:26PM ET.

Now about this New Moon on Saturday. It’s in Scorpio, a sign concerned with using knowledge to fulfill ambitions of power and control. It can build all the way to Heaven and all the way down to Hell.  Scorpionic depths and heights apply especially in  matters of sex, death and (other peoples’) money, a.k.a. energy, transformation and resources.  Scorpio challenges us to face the nitty-gritty consequences of our base instincts, fears and passions. Really, we simply can not look away.

In the chart for this New Moon, we have this potentially explosive Mars-Pluto pattern. What might this explosive action involve? We see Jupiter (expansion) in harmony with Neptune (oil, faith, refugees, lies, escape, drugs, spirits of all kind, forgiveness). This expansion may be a reaction to some impressive ideals and/or delusions that have recently made news, suggested by this past week’s wiggy contacts to Neptune by Mercury (thoughts/communication) and Venus (art, women, money).  Headlines reflecting these patterns:  first, aggressive bidding on a painting that might be the work of Leonardo da Vinci ends at $450 million!!  The subject is religious; the buyer is mysterious.  Second, a 19-year-old model auctioned off her virginity for millions, calling the winning bid “a dream come true.” Third, Keystone Pipeline spills 200K gallons of oil in South Dakota.

The New Moon happens at 26 degrees of Scorpio. It will square the Big Fat Solar Eclipse of August 21st, which you may recall happened at 28 Leo. If you have a planet or point around 28 degrees of Leo, Scorpio, Taurus or Aquarius whatever that August 21st eclipse set in motion is likely to be triggered. We see the potential for a sudden shift, closure or exposure. For P45, note that his 26 Mars and 28 Leo Ascendant qualify. It’s interesting to note that on Saturday, the horoscope of the 2017 inauguration will have a challenging measurement between patriarchal/controlling Saturn and militant Mars.

The Sabian Symbol for the New Moon is “a military band on the march.” Hmm. Well at least that band is making music, not warfare. Sabian Symbol guru Blain Bovee suggests this Symbol “is an image of a collective effort to coordinate an action in precision and unison….playing the same tune is highly recommended.” Bovee suggests we be aware of “something more satisfying, more in line with being true to oneself…marching to someone else’s tune; keeping in step; parading one’s honor; staying with the drill.” Let’s watch for these themes in the headlines.

And now, the news.

Al Franken — accused of testosterone-induced impropriety and really bad jokes. How many feminists does it take to screw in a lightbulb? That’s not funny. Get it? Got it? Good.

I last looked at the Senator’s  horoscope at the beginning of the year, curious to see if the buzz about him being a presidential contender in 2020 was reflected therein.  I wasn’t convinced, but I did see potential for considerable expansion this month, as transiting Jupiter crosses his Scorpio Ascendant today. Add to this another measurement between his righteously opinionated Sagittarius Moon and Jupiter suggesting no small amount of publicity (and also reward and success) — this has been in effect for a few months, and exact on November 11th.  Reward and success? Perhaps he will keep his Senate seat…though transiting Saturn squaring his natal Saturn is giving his mindset a major karmic reality check. I wish I’d taken the time to note my observations in this forecast back in February.

Senator Franken and P45 are cut from the similar planetary cloth, btw. Both are Geminis with Moon in Sagittarius. Both have strong Mars (assertion; yang; action). Franken has an exact Sun-Mars conjunction at 0 Gemini — somewhat impacted by the August 21 eclipse. P45 has Mars on his regally entitled Leo Ascendant. Senator Franken’s Scorpio Ascendant needs to be seen as someone of much greater depth and control. Franken’s Venus (social expression, values) is conjunct Uranus and square to Jupiter. Expansive, humanitarian, rebellious, quirky. P45’s Venus is conjunct Saturn: conservative, controlling, a creature of habit; potentially lean and mean.

A year from now will be a much more challenging time for Senator Franken….or so his horoscope suggests.

UPDATE: George H.W. Bush — also accused of grabbing women inappropriately — and now, by a woman who says he did it as an elected U.S. president. Back in January this potential for a sobering reality check and/or a controlling limitation was noted in this forecast.  The senior Bush has Moon at 17 Libra square to Venus in Cancer — a potentially self-indulgent and/or expansively expressive pattern. Mars is now at 16 Libra; Pluto is at 17 Capricorn. No wonder all of these women are speaking out now. Provocation…and a transformation of perspective in matters of social expression. Plus, Bush’s Leo Ascendant was also hit by the August 21 eclipse. Astrology is amazing.

What’s going on in your horoscope? Now is the time to book that consultation and plan for 2018 (!). Or gift a fabulous someone this holiday season (!!!) with something that screams “it’s all about YOU!”  Here’s the 411 .

Thank you for reading this forecast…and for all the wonderful referrals. And do take a moment to look up at the night sky tonight or tomorrow..the Leonids meteors are peaking...
