Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 8/30/2012: Some Enchanted Evening

I’ve heard more than one good report of a successful enterprise undertaken during Wednesday’s constructive aspects between mental Mercury and disciplined Saturn, as well as Sun and potent Pluto. More of the same this morning, at least until 1:48PM ET, when the Moon goes void in humanitarian Aquarius on an opposition from aforementioned Mercury. And this is where a tension may arise over some overblown thing some royal ego said, or where you may find illumination on a issue involving the one versus the many.

Whatever crisis that arises during the next few hours is likely much ado about nothing.  Go with the flow until 6:31PM ET, when Moon enters Pisces, and needs to concern itself with intangibles including, but not limited to: escape, fantasy, illusion, film, glamor, deception, drugs, oil, water, spirit and vision. At 9:20PM ET, Moon conjuncts nebulous Neptune, suggesting an evening of glorious rose-colored fog…perhaps perfectly timed for when Mitt Romney takes center stage at the Republican National Convention.

You may recall prior posts noting that Romney has been experiencing heavy Neptune transits in his horoscope throughout 2012, which suggests a period of confusion, bewilderment and pixie dust illusion…or downright delusion and deception. Isn’t it interesting that these themes have repeatedly turned up in news items and commentaries about Mr. Romney, including  one penned this week by conservative columnist David Brooks, former senior editor at the Weekly Standard. Warning: if you click that link and read whilst drinking coffee, I will not be held responsible for the consequences.

You may also recall that VP nominee Paul Ryan also has a strong Neptune in his horoscope: it sits right on the Ascendant, which refers to physcal appearance, personal projection, first impressions and the filter through which we see the world. This suggests reality may be a challenge. Mr. Ryan captivated audiences last night with a speech that also kept fact checkers at the New York Times thoroughly engaged: here’s what they found. And here’s a more comprehensive list of the distorted realities presented therein, courtesy of Salon.

Now you may be wondering what is it about the American collective psyche that makes us fall in love with so many political leaders that are often not what they seem to be. Remember Bill Clinton also has Neptune and Mars on the Ascendant — that can be ever so sexy and charismatic. Barack Obama has Neptune square Sun, which — especially in one’s early years — suggests a bewildered — or bewildering — sense of identity. Was he born in Kenya or born in Hawaii? Is he a Christian or a Muslim? I’m certain I know the correct answers to those questions, and I’m certain there are people who will argue that it is still a subject of debate. A lack of crystalline clarity is typical of Neptune energy. So is being hailed as a savior.

Back to the collective American psyche, which produced Hollywood glamor and lots of charismatic religious/spiritual leaders (that savior thing again). Why?  Is there an astro-logical measurement in the chart of the United States which reflects that energetic pull? Yes, in fact, there is: on July 4, 1776, Neptune in Virgo was square to Mars in clever chatterbox Gemini. If the United States were a human being, you’d immediately notice a certain glamour and magnetism. That person would likely have issues with intangibles like movies, video games, drugs, spirituality, idealism, sex appeal — and DREAMS! Let’s not forgot dreams, especially The American Dream. So why do we have all these American politicians with strong Neptune in their horoscopes? I’d argue that for the collective American psyche,  like attracts like.

We’ll talk about something other than politics tomorrow. Peace out.

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 8/29/2012: The Department of Water & Power

Clear sailing, unless you happen to be caught in a tropical storm or a hurricane. The Moon in freedom-loving Aquarius is buoyed by a connection to Jupiter, encouraging rhapsodies of enthusiasm for your favorite humanitarian cause. Constructive thinking and efficient use of power and resources are also on the day’s agenda, even if what you’re thinking about is a fantasy. Not a bad day to make a pitch. Get it off your desk before 1:48PM ET Thursday, when the Moon goes void…and enters watery Pisces at 6:31PM ET. Emotions will likely run high through the rest of the week: Moon waxes full Friday morning.

Speaking of water, Hurricane Isaac isn’t the only storm on the horizon. A deadly typhoon just hit South Korea. Which seems like a good time to remind you that with the Mother of All Squares — rebel Uranus challenging ruthless Pluto, there’s no place on Earth that is safe from an upset. If you haven’t done so already, re-stock your emergency kit at your home, office and in your car.

Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 8/28/2012: Chills and Wills

Mind the Moon, which will be void-of-course in Capricorn from 6:33AM ET to 1:38PM ET. If you sleep in late, flake out on an appointment or your usual morning routine takes an unexpected detour, your life is reflecting the wandering freefall of the Moon in the last degrees of one sign before entering the next. Take break, relax, brainstorm and trust that whatever crazy crisis crops up is likely much ado about nothing.

When Moon enter Aquarius at 1:38PM ET, it won’t make contact with another planet until 7:37PM ET. In Aquarius has a reputation for being friendly and humanitarian, as well as oddly stubborn.  They are often “far-out”  — on one extreme or the other — and politicians are no exception.  Sarah Palin, Paul Ryan and Dick Cheney are all Aquarians; so were Abraham Lincoln and Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Meanwhile, at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, delegates were reportedly frustrated that their convention was put on hold yesterday, thanks to Hurricane Isaac. And can you blame them? That Moon in Capricorn needed to make things happen. I’m impressed that they won’t be getting back underway until today at 2PM ET, when the Moon will no longer be void. Think they have an astrologer on staff?

We may see some stubborn clashes or expressions of will this evening, when the Aquarian Moon is challenged by aggressive Mars in Scorpio.  Good thing the Moon moves fast and tomorrow is another day.  Re-read yesterday’s forecast for notes on the major aspects of this week, two of which are exact Wednesday. Meanwhile, here’s a bit of “news from underground” (as forecast) that reflects the current prominence of Pluto (underground, resources) and Neptune (oil, water, showbiz, music, celebrity):  an op-ed on fracking written by Sean Lennon. That, and the fact that the Moon will be challenged at 6:33AM ET by stern Saturn, which calls for something sobering with your morning coffee.

Peace out.

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 8/27/2012

More “make-it-happen” earthy, practical energy is yours to utilize today, courtesy of the Moon in Capricorn. And what big and noble thoughts you may have while you’re moving forward. Why? Well, Mercury — referring to mind and communication — is running wild in Leo, suggesting the potential for proud, playful and/or dramatic expression. Also running wild is expansive Jupiter in information-junkie Gemini, suggesting you’ll need a certain Sun-in-Virgo discernment as you receive the potential information overload this day holds. The only exact lunar aspect is an opposition from loving Venus at 8PM ET, suggesting a bit of pleasant indulgence and nurturing.

Moon voids: Tuesday 6:33AM – 1:38PM ET; Thursday 1:48PM ET – 6:31PM ET.

Major aspects this week, which you can apply all week long: a constructive connection between Mercury and Saturn on Wednesday helps you structure your thoughts that may have been running wild. Also on Wednesday: an easy connection between the Sun and potent Pluto, suggesting a successful reach for power and news from underground. The Full Moon is exact Friday at 9:58AM ET in watery Pisces, so emotions and tensions are building all week for a release/illumination.

Speaking of watery, that type of energy is also in effect this week, with the potential for considerable force. And here I would be thinking of Hurricane Isaac, which is expected to hit land in the US later this week. This has inspired me to look up the charts for the 2nd and 3rd landfalls of Hurricane Katrina on 8/29/2005 — at 6:10AM ET in Buras-Triumph, LA and 9:45AM in St. Tammany Parish, LA. Stay tuned…

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 8/24/12 & the Weekend: Curiouser & Curiouser…

Word on the street is that yesterday’s all-day Moon void was accompanied by some strange, weird vibe. Weird indeed,  and we can look no further than today’s challenge: a First Quarter Moon and a T-square among the Virgo Sun opposing nebulous Neptune, with both planets squared by the high-flying, opinionated Moon in Sagittarius. All that sparkling pixie dust can be put to good use in creative and spiritual endeavors; in more practical concerns this is a good time to “measure twice; cut once” to make sure the pattern you’re following is for real. Neptune can also suggest fanatics and delusions.

The T-square described above was exact between 8:33AM and 9:54AM ET, and it was just after 9AM ET that a truly weird headline hit the wires in New York: Several People Shot, One Fatally, Outside Empire State Building. And to think, Mars (aggression) moved into Scorpio (potential for vengeance) only yesterday. It does seem like we have more than the usual share of violent words on the NYT home page today: Iran Speeding Up Nuclear Work; Missile Advance by China; Norway Killer Ruled Sane; US Drone Strike Kill More People; Town Built by Guns is Worried; Syria Clashes Intensify.

Count on Neptune’s weirdly rose-colored fog to carry you through the weekend, as the next connection it makes is to that very potent Mars at 2:55AM ET on Sunday. This is a charismatic connection and a favorite of glamorous Hollywood starlets and seductive snake oil salesmen. Paul Ryan has a Mars-Neptune trine in his horoscope that channels that charm right on his Ascendant. How appealing is that? So appealing, that a woman from “Democratic royalty from Oklahoma” fell in love and married him. (Bill Clinton also has Mars and Neptune on his Ascendant).

On Sunday, after a Moon void between 2:39AM and 9:58AMET, Moon enters “make-it-happen” Capricorn. This practical, earthy energy is good for accomplishing all sorts of weekend tasks. Be advised, however, that ruthless Pluto and disruptive Uranus  engage the Moon at 10:05PM ET and 11:19PM ET, suggesting the potential for a bumpy emotional evening.

A couple of other headline notes: first, remember the eclipse on May 21 that was at 0 Gemini (and right on Mitt Romney’s Ascendant)? Listen up if you were born around the 21st of February, May, August or November, or if you have a planet or angle at 0 degrees of Pisces, Gemini, Virgo or Sagittarius.  When an eclipse directly affects your horoscope, you can anticipate potential fallout from the eclipse when a transiting planet hits the degree of the eclipse. For example, on Wednesday the Sun was at zero degrees of Virgo, which is an exact square to zero degrees of Gemini. Got that? Did anything hit the newswires that might have put some pressure on Mitt Romney? Answer: yes — “a massive cache of confidential financial documents” was published on Gawker. Coincidence or conspiracy? Let’s keep an eye on what happens around October 7, when Mars will be at 0 Sagittarius and Neptune will be at 0 Pisces.

Astro-logical Forecast for 8/23/2012: Mars in Scorpio

Patience may be required if you’re trying to gets something important off your desk today. The intense and methodical Scorpio Moon is void-of-course as of 5:34AM ET, after making a pleasant connection to Venus, which sets a cooperative tone.  However, the Moon will not enter Sagittarius (the sign after Scorpio) until 6:50AM ET on Friday. That’s a loooong time for a natural break in the action, and it suggests a higher potential for a twist in your efforts to move forward in a straight line. People cancel appointments — or simply forget about them. A “crisis” happens that turns out to be nothing to worry about, but you had to deal with it anyway. Go with the flow…and if you can plan a watery escape, more power to you. Otherwise work on being present.

Mars changes signs today — also moving into Scorpio, where it will stay until October 7th. Mars — which refers to the energy we apply when we take action —  is one of the rulers of Scorpio, and thus it is well-placed — for better or for worse. Mars in Scorpio can be passionate and magnetic, simmering with an aura of powerful knowingness — and wouldn’t you like to know what’s going on deep down inside. It can also be ruthless and vengeful.

When motivated by love, honor and integrity, Scorpio builds all the way to heaven.  When motivated by fear, suspicion or power for its own sake, Scorpio destroys all the way to hell. As astrologer Linda Goodman once wrote, “That’s what makes Scorpio so…interesting.” Why is Scorpio so tough to handle?  In a horoscope it naturally rules the 8th house of sex, death and money. These are tough subjects for most all of us, these matters of life and death.

Look for an uptick in intensity and passion over the next several weeks — in your own personal world and in world events. Debating, weighing issues, trying to keep the peace is so Mars in Libra. Now is the time for actions with power and emotional substance. That’s Mars in Scorpio.

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 8/22/2012: Sun in Virgo

Say goodbye to the Sun in Leo; say hello to the Sun in Virgo, as of 1:07PM ET.  Virgo is an earth sign (as opposed to fire, water or air). It is also a mutable sign, as opposed to cardinal or fixed. What does that mean? Cardinal signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn; they need to come up with the idea and take action.  Fixed signs are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius. These signs need to organize and give form to the concepts pitched by cardinal signs. Mutable signs — Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces — get to spread the word about the cool form the fixed signs made. Got it?

More about Virgo: it is ruled by Mercury, which also rules mindset. Virgo is symbolized by a virgin with a shaft of wheat. Its keywords are I ANALYZE. Virgo needs to apply its mental energy to discernment and discrimination, as it separates the wheat from the chaff. In health matters,  Virgo rules the intestinal tract and assimilation. If you have planets in Virgo in your horoscope, and they are under a great deal of developmental tension, you may have some issues with your digestive system, especially how your system absorbs nutrition from food.

We should notice a shift in tone from the roaring Leo vibe to Virgo’s comparative quiet as the week progresses. How so? Why look, right on the home page of TMZ: pictures of Prince Harry naked in Vegas…I kid you not…talk about royal Leo revelry — and no, I am not going to provide a link, as the Moon is still in Libra and has some social graces. Read this piece about Jets quarterback Tim Tebow — and other virgins — living in New York instead. That’s Virgo — and on the home page of the New York Times, if you please.

Meanwhile, we have a few hours left to dream royally, encouraged  by the deep Scorpio Moon making an easy connection to nebulous Neptune at 6:58AM ET. So definitely take note of your dreams….and the rest of your ideas for the day. Why? Because jolly Jupiter is getting along famously with mental Mercury, supporting writers and thinkers everywhere. That connection is exact at 6:57PM ET…and frankly, some of what you are thinking may be quite fantastic. Why? Because nebulous Neptune is moving to an exact opposition to the Sun at 8:33AM ET on Friday. How weird and dazzling can it get? Just watch the headlines..and note that Venus, which refers to women, has been running wild in the heavens.

Use the energy of today’s Scorpio Moon — which kicks in after 1:07PM ET — to be seen as someone of depth and substance.

Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 8/21/2012: Venus, Pluto & Uranus in the News

More of the same potential for gracious proactivity from yesterday, only without the potential bumps and jolts some may have experienced when the Libra Moon was challenged by ruthless Pluto and rebel Uranus at around lunchtime ET. For me, with my horoscope directly affected by the ongoing square between Pluto and Uranus, this was reflected in an especially intrusive “pat-down” by a airport TSA person determined to assert her authority after I declined (as I always do) to walk through the gamma ray gizmo scanning device that no one can conclusively prove is safe. Next came a leisurely swabbing of every item in my luggage, including several pages of  Noel Tyl’s Astrology Looks At History — an explosive text indeed — as I marvelled at the intelligence of our tax dollars at work. The rest of the day was delightful — how about you? As I’ve written before, you are personally affected by the Uranus-Pluto square if you were born around the 29th of March, June, September and December…or you have angles or planets around 4-10 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn.

As for today, the only lunar connection is a serious hook-up with Saturn, suggesting the potential for ambition realized, on the one hand — or a sense of isolation, loss or a limitation imposed as the day progresses.  Which will it be for you? The hook-up is exact at 8PM ET.

And now, the news. We’re seeing continued manifestations of last week’s challenging patterns involving Venus, Uranus and Pluto — suggesting rebellion, over-the-top emotion and prominence involving women. Exhibit A would be the Russian feminist punk band Pussy Riot being convicted on charges of “hooliganism” (that’s a carryover from last week).  Exhibit B would be the famed Augusta National Golf Club moving into the 20th Century and inviting two women to join. Exhibit C would be Representative Todd Akin’s provocative assertion that women’s bodies can prevent unwanted pregnancy in cases of “legitimate rape.” Many in his own political party (Republican) are now calling for him to bow out of his current campaign for a seat in the US Senate. This story has led to reports noting that Akin and VP-candidate Paul Ryan co-sponsored a bill that sought to define different kinds of rape, with only one of them being called “forcible.”  This could become a problem for the Romney-Ryan ticket, as Ryan’s mindset becomes a drain on Romney — a potential noted in last week’s forecast.

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 8/20/2012: Arise, Go Forth, Etc.

OK, long Moon void is over…or will be at 12:45AM ET, when Moon enters gracious, cerebral and proactive Libra. Time to move forward on your New Moon agenda, which I hope is as inspiring as a rainbow. I challenge you to find ways to shimmer and sparkle, as you surf the surge of energy you may be experiencing around lunchtime (on the East Coast), as ruthless Pluto and rebel Uranus connect with the gracious Moon at 1PM and 2:25PM ET, respectively. A flash of insight, an emotional outburst or other power play may cross the newswires and/or in your own personal world.

As the day progresses, harsher aspects give way to sweet indulgence, as loving Venus and expansive Jupiter connect with the Moon at 10:42PM and 11:32PM ET. Not bad at all.

Moon voids this week: Wednesday 3:13AM – 3:54AM ET (blink and you’ll miss it); Thursday 5:34AM ET – 6:50AM ET on Friday…that one you will notice….

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 8/17/2012 & the Weekend: New Moon in Leo; the Rainbow Connection

What an emotional roller coaster for so many of us this week…TGIF! And hooray for today’s New Moon — a chance to re-set your intentions for the next four weeks. Make a list and light a candle at 11:54AM ET, when the Sun and Moon meet up at 26 degrees of Leo, the sign that rules the heart.

Remember the Sabian Symbol for last month’s New Moon forecast — 27 Cancer  — “a violent storm in a canyon filled with expensive homes?” This month’s is a sweet relief: “a rainbow” — a divine message of reassurance after a troubling time. Did you know that Iris, the Greek goddess of the rainbow, was a “messenger for Hera and associated with being at everyone’s beck and call…and that she is depicted as a beautiful golden-winged goddess with long hair flowing in all the colors of the light spectrum?” Me neither, and I thank Sabian Symbol guru Blain Bovee for pointing that out. Did you know that “no two people see the same rainbow, unless it is frozen in a photograph; no two people have identical irises of eyes?” I knew the latter; didn’t know the former — let’s all go buy Bovee’s book right now; mine is on my Kindle.

With this week’s challenging planetary patterns on the wane, a new pattern of support moves in. This New Moon — symbolized by the rainbow — is aided and abetted by constructive connections from energetic Mars and disciplined Saturn. Yes, you really can take something out of thin air and give it earthly form. Take full advantage of this practical vibe! Mental Mercury (mind, communication) is equally supported by innovative Uranus (exact on Saturday at 7:30PM ET), suggesting the time is ripe for fresh ideas: yours! With expansive Jupiter adding a ton of  creative drive to this mix —  and running wild in talktalktalk Gemini, trust your brainstorms. Write that pitch or draft,  send that email, pick up the phone, set up that meeting — and forge ahead with all your heart. Need a special boost? Here’s your rainbow connection.

Planetary patterns will be intense for many in September’s lunar cycle. We’ll have the second exact square between rebel Uranus and ruthless Pluto on the 19th, with the Sun and Moon engaged with this Mother of All Squares at the Full Moon on September 29th. You’ll be in the hot seat if you were born around the 29th of March, June, September and December…or if you have planets or angles around 6 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. Consult your local astrologer for details.

As for the rest of the weekend: Moon goes void of course on Friday at 1:55PM ET, not to enter discerning Virgo until 8:33PM ET. Perhaps you can cut out of work early. An inspirational lunar connection to nebulous Neptune at 11:57PM ET is your Friday night highlight. One cocktail or two?

Saturday’s Moon in Virgo is lovely for hammering out the inventive details of your next creative venture. Moon goes void at 7:26PM ET on an expansive challenge from jolly Jupiter. There is a potential here for big plans — or simple self-indulgence. Go with the flow and adjust to any surprise twists that foil your efforts to move forward in a straight line. The Moon void continues all day Sunday (avoid yard sales and impulse purchases)…not to enter Libra until 12:45AM ET on Monday.
