Monday 11/6/2017: Sneak Peek at the Week; Catching Up on the News

And off we go again…

Buzz, buzz, buzz says the Moon in Gemini today…until it clashes with wet blanket Saturn around 9:57PM ET tonight. Moon goes void for all of five minutes at 5:39 AM ET on TUESDAY, then enters homeland security-seeking Cancer at 5:44AM ET. Get out of the house and get yourself to the polls! If you don’t vote, someone else will…and then you will be sorry. Just DO it!

Thoughts of home and family will drive TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY. Moon goes void at 12:15 AM on THURSDAY and enters regal party animal Leo at 7:29AM ET, where it seek to shine, shine, shine until midday on SATURDAY.

Exact planetary patterns — other than to the Moon — are as follows.  TUESDAY at 6:39 AM ET ET, Venus leaves Libra and plunges into the icy depths of Scorpio. That means we’ll have the planets representing how we need to think (Mercury); how we need to love (Venus) and how we need to act (Mars) in signs where they are more likely to behave badly. Mercury in Sagittarius can be sloppy in its thinking; Venus in Scorpio can be vindictive; Mars in Libra can be passive-aggressive or conflict-averse to the extreme.  Upside potential: thinking that pushes boundaries; affections that are loyal; actions that are pacifist/diplomatic. How will we see this manifest in the headlines?

Two other patterns driving the action this week involve the consolidation of power (Sun in harmony with Pluto, exact on Thursday at 7:08 AM ET), and the reinvention of the wheel (old guard Saturn in harmony with avant garde Uranus, exact on Saturday at 4;41 AM ET). Translation: and just like that, things changed. Example:  in Saudi Arabia over the weekend, there were “sweeping arrests” of cabinet ministers and royal princes, in a “corruption purge” (no doubt aided by Jupiter in Scorpio), initiated by a 32-year-old heir apparent to an old crown.  Here’s a useful op-ed on yet another trend towards the kind of authoritarian power grab that is totally in sync with planetary patterns. It could happen anywhere, including here. If you have a planet or point around 26 degrees of Aries, Leo or Sagittarius, maybe you’ll have an opportunity to put a fresh spin on an old patterns, too.

[These next four paragraphs were written on Friday, as a forecast for the weekend and the Full Moon in Taurus.]

TGIF!

Moon has been in Taurus as of 5:46AM ET, now waxing to its fullness at 1:23AM ET on SATURDAY. A Taurus Moon seeks material comfort and security, and comfort was what I was feeling last night when I happened to glance up at the sky and see the big, bright, beautiful Moon. When is the last time you looked up at the Moon?

This Full Moon is  a Supermoon — closer to Earth than usual. The Taurean needs of conservation and preservation are opposed by the Sun in Scorpio. Depth is a Scorpio need….but so is decay and breakdown…and I may not emphasize those needs enough. Taurus refers to “mine.” Scorpio refers to “ours”…and therein lies the potential conflict, illumination and release…especially in matters of resources.

You could make some practical magic over the next few days. The Taurus Moon, whilst ripe with emotion, is also in a grounding Earth sign. Venus — symbol of women, money, values and social expression — is in harmony with Saturn, facilitiating cooperation and structure. The magic kicks in with a surprise around 1:01 AM ET, when Venus opposes rebel Uranus, disrupting the status quo. Women: this is a chance to speak out — or become the first American woman to win the NYC Marathon in 40 years.  Planetary patterns also favor beautiful vision, with the Sun in harmony with Neptune, exact today at 3:23 PM ET. That’s the upside. The downside of Neptune is scandal, drugs and deception.

Moon goes void for an hour on SUNDAY…then enters chatty Gemini at 5:26 AM ET. Who’s the smartest kid in the room? How diverse and entertaining can you get? The bigger the better — but you might want to double check the details before pulling the trigger on your boundary-pushing ideas and communication. Why? Because Mercury — the way we need to think and communicate — enters Sagittarius, where it will travel forward — backward — and forward again — until January 11, 2018. We are likely to see some astonishingly ill-thought-out intiatives involving control in matters of publishing, opinion and foreign affairs around December 5th, when Mercury turns retrograde.

Anyhoo. No sleeping in on Monday…buzz, buzz, buzz.

And now, the news.

All hail Jupiter in Scorpio! Since October 10th we’re seeing a plethora of stories of wretched excess in matters of deep, dark, sexual secrets. Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, George H.W. Bush, Dustin Hoffman, Bill O’Reilly, NBC’s Mark Halpern, NPR’s Michael Oreskes, UK Defence Secretary Michael Fallon…all part of a growing list of powerful men who are being called out for their wretchedly excessive, abusive harassment and assaults against their objects of desire (all except one in this list were against women).  Apologies are being issued; careers are being ended; investigations (for some) are being opened. Men in politics are also being called out: a state legislator in Washington; a state legislator in Illinois; in Kentucky; and of course, some men in the U.S. Congress. Come on, ladies of the House and Senate — name names! Fast Company is keeping a list — here it is as of November 1st. As for all of those allegations against the Grabber-in-Chief, here’s the latest.

This is Dustin Hoffman’s horoscope. Sun in regal Leo; driven by the Moon in perfectionist Virgo. The Moon and dreamy Neptune are together in the 8th House; we see potential for a rich imagination and/or private fantasy seeking release to an other — whether it is a person or the general public. I can’t believe Mr. Hoffman is 80; Tootsie is one of my all-time favorite movies, and really, you’d think Mr. Hoffman might have learned something about sexual harassment from his involvement in that film. This year he has transiting Pluto crossing his fine, upstanding Capricorn Ascendant. Pluto rules his Midheaven — his public status. The suggestion here is the potential tear-down of his public image, with a disruptive element added courtesy of transiting Uranus to his natal Pluto.

Here is Kevin Spacey. The birth time is unconfirmed, though he is cited as the source. Another Leo Sun — perhaps with a Leo Ascendant — honestly he does come across as a double regal king. Moon in stability-seeking Taurus…but both Sun and Moon are challenged by nebulous Neptune. I could understand why he was involved with men and women…there’s considerable tension in this horoscope suggesting sensitivity and bewilderment over identity. An Earth Grand Trine among Mars conjunct Pluto in Virgo (a potentially forceful execution of perfect action), the Taurus Moon and a prominent Saturn in Capricorn suggests a need to project an air of self-sufficiency, as if the laws that apply to others do not apply to him.

Mr. Spacey is about to have his second Saturn return — an important time of assessing the accomplishments of the last 28-30 years. If his take on his birth time is correct, transiting Pluto to his Aries Midheaven is likely to effect a change in his public status, for better or for worse. Transiting Uranus will challenge his Taurus Moon, Leo Sun and Ascendant. More changes are suggested…possibly a move or other fresh start, reflecting a need for freedom and greater self-expression. Here’s the latest on all of the men who have said Mr. Spacey sexually harassed them…and the recent consequences.

UPDATE: the Democratic Party, which continues to experience upsets we could expect with transiting Uranus conjunct its pioneering Aries Moon. Cue former DNC interim chair Donna Brazile, now please. She last made headlines a year ago when she had to resign as a CNN commentator after it was revealed she’d leaked debate questions to the Clinton campaign.  On Thursday she revealed how horrified she was to discover exactly how the DNC “rigged” the primaries in favor of Hillary Clinton. Well duh…and double duh…as anyone noticing the absurd debate schedules set by the DNC in….oh gawd, was it 2015? Oh no…wait…now Ms. Brazile isn’t saying the DNC rigged the primaries after all.  I’m so confused. Why are we having this conversation now, days before an election?

Ms Brazile has transiting Jupiter on her Midheaven now and for the next month or so. Perfect time to go on a book tour. Here is her horoscope — time not officially confirmed.  fascinating to see her Sagiattarius Sun at 22 degrees — along with all the other political power players making news for the past year. Her Gemini Moon’s need to be the smartest kid in the room has also been under the streamling squeeze and focus of transiting Saturn, and that does not lift until December. An extra dose of anguish and effort was added this year by a measurement between Saturn and Pluto. If her 8:53 AM birth time is correct, a transit from Pluto to her Capricorn Ascendant is likely to be especially transformational for her in 2019.

UPDATE: Hillary Clinton. Any astrologer worth her salt could see the potential for a streamlining squeeze this year and into the end of the year. Her Moon at 22 Pisces may no longer be pressured by Saturn, but there is another measurement between the Sun and Saturn that will be exact on December 27th and is in effect now. Time will tell.

UPDATE: The horoscope of the P45 inauguration. Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller’s first indictment was unsealed days after a disruptive hit to the public status of P45’s decrepit administration. That hit was the second challenge of Uranus to the Midheaven, suggesting shake-ups. The third hit happens on March 12, 2018 — and this will be a few days after another disruptive measurement between Uranus and Pluto. The day before Mueller’s indictment — against P45’s former campaign chair Paul Manafort (for starters) — transiting Saturn squared the inauguration chart’s Mars, suggesting frustrated action. Note that there will be an even heavier Saturn-Mars hit on November 24th, but definitely in effect now.

More scandalous sex and money revelations, courtesy of Jupiter (expansion) in Scorpio (sexual secrets; other peoples’ money): the probe in the U.S. Navy’s “Fat Leonard” scandal (prostitutes and payola) expands to include at least 60 admirals; the relentless Guardian publishes the must-read  “Paradise Papers,” exposing more “secrets of the world elite’s hidden wealth”; Paradise Papers reveal  links between U.S. Commerce Secretary and Putin’s family; how Russia funded investments in Facebook and Twitter via an associate of Jared Kushner.

Finally, rebel Uranus opposed Venus early Sunday morning, suggesting unconventional women would be making headlines. So often I’ll see in the obituaries the death of someone who expresses the potential of that day’s planetary patterns. On Sunday Nancy Friday, “best-selling student of gender politics,” passed away in Manhattan. Astrology is amazing.

Wednesday 11/1/2017: Back in the Saddle Again

…and how have you been over the past two weeks? Carried away by last Thursday’s meet-up of big big big Jupiter and the Sun, both in nitty-gritty Scorpio? Blindsided by the intensely ruthless perspective demanded by Friday’s tension between Venus (women, money, arts, social expression) and Pluto (establishment, power)? Hanging on the edge of your seats at the upsets and underdog wins (go Astros!) in Sunday’s nearly all-day Moon void? I know I was.

Exact planetary patterns are few and far between in the early part of this week. The most compelling pattern is one between Mars (aggression, action, warfare) and a point involving lean, mean Saturn and ruthless Pluto. The Saturn-Pluto thing suggests potential anguish…or actions taken in the face of great loss. Yesterday and today are the hottest days. If you have a planet around 6 degrees of Aries, Libra, Cancer or Capricorn, you may be pulled into a conflict or suffer an attack, even if you spend the entire day in your home office.

Exhibit A: your astrologer, who received a text from her bank yesterday asking if I’d ordered a replacement debit card — to be shipped to an address in Michigan. I didn’t — and I’d call that an attack. Fortunately, my bank was savvy enough to at least contact me before real damage could be done. Exhibit B: a huge kerfuffle exploding on the Facebook page of a group in which I serve as Fearless Leader. I did not start it, but I needed to resolve it as a win-win for all parties concerned. This kerfuffle occupied much of my brain space and writing energy for the past few days. I saw this potential weeks ago and wondered how it might erupt. Now I know. Astrology is amazing. Do you have any planets or points at 6 Aries, Libra, Cancer or Capricorn?

In the news, we see two obviously explosive items: in New York, in which cyclists and pedestrians were killed by man driving a truck down a bike path; and in North Korea, where 200 were reportedly killed in a nuclear test accident.

Today is driven by the Moon in me-me-me Aries. Note the potential for a confrontation when the Moon is opposed by Mars in Libra at 1:43PM ET. Passive-aggressive or simply aggressive, whatever work. The Aries Moon makes its weekly clash with Uranus and Pluto tomorrow, continuing to shake, rattle and roll.

To be continued. I know there’s a lot to catch up on. Like…it’s Mueller Time! Meanwhile, I am absolutely, positively available for consultations to help you sort out these interesting times.

Thank you for reading this forecast.

Thursday 10/19/2017: New Moon in Libra; Mars-Saturn Fallout

Light a candle and make a list. The New Moon in  Libra officially begins at 3:12 PM ET, offering us an opportunity to re-set  intentions and goals for the next lunar cycle.  Around the 27th, on the First Quarter Moon, we can expect a challenge to those goals, with appropriate adjustments made. At the time of the Full Moon on November 4th, we can expect illumination on the success or failure of our goals for the cycle. If we succeeded, we can release our success into our reality; if we failed, we let go of whatever did not work. After the Third Quarter Moon on the 10th, we can review our achievements, tie up loose ends and get ready to begin anew on November 18th.

A Libra Moon suggests a focus on fairness, balance, justice and relationship, with a strong need for appreciation on both sides. At 1:34 PM ET — right before the New Moon — the Libra Sun will be opposed by rebel Uranus. At 3:04 PM ET, Uranus opposes the Libra Moon. So here we are, needing to plant seeds for a new cycle focused on balance, harmony and relationships in the possible aftermath of a shock, a break or some other me-me-me disruption. Said disruption was perhaps inspired by yesterday’s meet-up of Mercury and Jupiter in Scorpio, suggesting a big idea that digs deep, reveals intimate secrets and establishes power and control.  Here in the United States, I suppose we can see this reflected in the aftermath of the Harvey Weinstein scandal. He’s the lightning rod for a slew of  disgusting revelations of how women have been treated by abusive men of power in what is theoretically an equal opportunity workplace.  Or perhaps this story also fits: Shake-Up at Democratic National Committee, Longtime Officials Ousted.

My money says that you are feeling the shake-up and need to rebuild more personally if you were born around the 19th of October, July, April or January…or if you have a significant point in your horoscope around 26 degrees of Aries, Libra, Cancer or Capricorn. The horrorscope of the P45 Inauguration falls into this category, with its 26 Capricorn Midheaven (public status). Shake-ups during this cycle would not surprise me.

The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon is “an airplane hovering overhead.”  Sabian Symbol guru Blain Bovee suggests this airplane may be an image of an astonishingly powerful creation, hanging in the balance (hovering), unresolved. Another interpretation is having one’s focus on the hustle and bustle of mundane affairs being disrupted by the need to focus on something clear and wondrous up above, as in: “Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s….Superman!” Whatever it is — bird, plane, rainbow, blimp, rocketship — it pulls focus. We’ll see how that plays out in the news.

The Libra Moon goes void at 3:12 PM ET, entering Scorpio at 9:41 PM ET. Chill tonight. The next planetary shift is Mars leaving Virgo for Libra at 2:30PM ET on Sunday. Perfection in (militant) action is likely to be prominent over the next couple of days, with Mars at the end of Virgo.

And now, the news.

First, a brief note on the devastating California wildfires. In the horoscope of California, we see Uranus and Pluto together at 29 Aries — a Fire sign.  The fires began when transiting Jupiter was at 29 Libra — an Air sign — exactly opposing — and expanding — the volatile Uranus-Pluto conjunction. Coincidence or conspiracy?

As anticipated most of the news last week was heavy. Happy Mars (action, anger, military, sports) square Saturn (control, brick wall), which was exact on Oct 11th. You will recall that this pattern affected the horoscopes of P45, HRC, Barack Obama and the U.S., as well as many other Washington newsmakers.

When I looked at Obama’s horoscope about a year ago, I noted his Mars at 22 Virgo being hit by brick wall Saturn all through 2017. At the time I couldn’t imagine what could happen in his life that might suggest such frustration of accomplishment, but it’s all clear now, with the current Twitler-in-Chief obsessed with destroying everything President Obama did. One example among many last week was Environmental Destruction Agency Scott “Soundproofed” Pruitt declaring that “the war on coal is dead,” as he announced a rollback on Obama’s clean power rules. That same day a piece about China leading the way in solar power and other renewable energy hit the wires. Which country is going to come out ahead in the long run?

For HRC, Saturn’s heavy hit to her Pisces Moon might be the news that while her campaign was spending zillions on traditional TV and radio ads, her opponent — and for some mysterious reason, a truckload of troll farms in Russia — was putting ad dollars into Facebook and other social media. This Russian-generated propaganda was then distributed by members of the P45 campaign. Wow. Meanwhile…

On October 11th, P45 was informed that his planned visit to the U.K. next year has been downgraded. The Queen will not be receiving him.  His ratings are down — even on the list of the world’s weathiest people. Larry Flynt, publisher of Hustler magazine, is offering up to $10 million in cash for information leading to P45’s impeachment.

P45 responded to one of many Saturn squeezes received last week by making a strategic advance (the upside potential of a Saturn squeeze). He issued executive orders 1) authorizing the sale of junk health insurance policies; and 2) demanding the federal government cease paying the subsidies to insurance companies that make it possible for low-income citizens to afford health care. These orders, if implemented, are guaranteed to wreak havoc on those who will lose health care — and health care providers who will lose patients (because their patients won’t be able to afford the care).

Today I can’t bring myself to write much more about the pathological liar/bully P45. Pick up any newspaper and weep. As for why he continues to be in office, here’s a piece by a screenwriter who worked with Harvey Weinstein explaining why that reign of sexual assault was allowed to continue despite that “Everyone-effing-knew.” That article is not about astrology — it’s about human nature. Will get back to the astrology – and what lies ahead – anon.

Look! Up in the sky! It’s the moon! With a  ginormous cave big enough to hold a colony of humans in it!! Seriously!!!  Calgon, take me away!  In other cosmic shocks, reflecting the potential of today’s opposition between the Sun (ruler of gold) and Uranus (shocks, technology)…a collision between two neutron stars — Never Seen Before — reveals the source of gold, platinum and other heavy metals. Kewl!

And now, let’s talk about you. What’s going on in your horoscope? Are you feeling a Saturn squeeze? A Jupiter boost? Only your astrologer knows for sure. Here’s the 411 on consultations and reports. We will have an excellent discussion together.

Thank you for reading this forecast.

Tuesday 10/10/2017: Sneak Peek at the Week; Jupiter in Scorpio

Is it Friday yet? I’m looking forward to Friday. Meanwhile, we have a busy few days to go before then…

The Moon is in Gemini, driving the day with a need for chatter and to prove itself the smartest kid in the room. If you’re the current occupant of the Oval Office, make the most of this day by challenging your Secretary of State (who has not denied calling you a moron), to an I.Q. Test competition. May the best brain win — MENSA has already volunteered to host.

This Gemini Moon is just spoiling for a fight in the hours before 10:47 AM ET and 11:41 AM ET, when it is challenged by aggressive Mars and then by controlling (yet ambitious) Saturn. To make matters more frustrating and combative — especially if you are the occupant of the Oval Office or anyone else with a planet or angle at 22 degrees of Sagittarius, Virgo, Gemini or Pisces — Mars (guns, anger, courage, yang) and Saturn (patriarchy, cuts, discipline) are themselves in a tense pattern, exact WEDNESDAY at 9:37 AM ET. Barack Obama (Virgo Mars)  the United States (Gemini Mars; Virgo Neptune) and Hillary Clinton (Pisces Moon) are in this group.

Moon goes void at 6:24 PM ET and enters its home sign of Cancer at 11:38 PM ET. Wednesday and Thursday will be driven by a need for emotional and home(land) security, perhaps militantly so, given the backdrop of the Mars-Saturn square. THURSDAY is especially charged, as the Moon makes its weekly clash with Pluto and Uranus at 4:13 AM ET and 9:10PM ET, respectively. We’ll also have the Third Quarter Moon at 8:25 AM ET, suggesting another action point or conflict in whatever New Moon agenda you set at the end of September.  An easy flow between Mercury and Saturn at 11:03 PM ET suggests an ability to structure thoughts and communication in a way that facilitates cooperation.

Moon goes void at 11:59 PM ET on Thursday and enters drama queen/party animal Leo at 2:41 AM ET. Fun fun fun and/or pomp and circumstance — what shall it be? Moon enters Virgo on SUNDAY at 7:19 AM ET, determined to clean up the confetti.

Two planets change signs this week. Venus enters Libra at 6:11 AM ET on SATURDAY. That’s good news if you’ve got a beautification project on your plate. Venus functions with high effectiveness in Libra, where it shall be until November 7th.

A longer-lasting shift happened today at 9:20AM ET. Jupiter, the symbol of expansion — for better or for worse — entered Scorpio. It will remain in Scorpio until November 9, 2018. What can we expect?

Jupiter keywords include: collective belief systems, such as higher education, religion, political philosophies and the media; optimism, benevolence, inflation, bombast. Whereas Saturn restricts, Jupiter expands, for better or for worse.  How will it apply its expansive efforts in 2017? Through the sign of Scorpio, a sign which demands substance, depth and control. Airy-fairy Libra theories of fairness and balance need not apply. Scorpio keywords include: debt, sexual/procreative energy, regeneration. In a natal chart, Jupiter in Scorpio suggests a need to have a mission in life — zealously, perhaps.

The news will be back in the next forecast.

Friday 10/6/2017 & the Weekend: Full Moon Fallout; When Mars Met Up With Venus…

TGIF!

The Moon is still in Aries, driving the day with a need to lead, championing the underdog (at its best) or dangerously self-absorbed (at its worst). If the work week ends with a big surprise, you can say you saw it coming, given the Moon’s meet-up with rebel Uranus at 2:58PM ET, followed by a face-off with expansive Jupiter at 6:38PM ET.

After a brief Moon void (chill!), Moon enters Taurus — and it’s about darn time. A Taurus Moon seeks material comfort and security — good food and drink; a snuggle with your sweetie; a nice long hot stone massage. Shop without fear on SATURDAY. Resist the urge to indulge in impulse purchases on SUNDAY, as the Moon will be void on Sunday for 12 hours, starting at 9:45 AM. At 9:44 PM ET Moon enters Gemini, seeking to be the smartest kid in the room, facilitating buzz and chatter.

Frankly, planetary patterns over the weekend are better suited for cuts, not expansion. Why? A tense aspect between Venus (money, women, aesthetics, social expression) and Saturn (control, patriarchy). No wonder P45 is all set to roll back the mandate requiring employers to include coverage for contraceptives in health care plans.  He has a tense aspect between Venus and Saturn in his own horoscope. Avid Readers may recall that the horoscope for his inauguration also has a harsh aspect between Venus and Saturn. Its worst potential is illustrated by the Queen of Swords in the Osho Tarot deck:

…especially with the power play suggested by ruthless Pluto challenging the Sun and Mercury on Sunday and Monday. A Sun-Mercury meet-up in Libra suggests thoughts and communication about fairness and balance, from a mind that may be totally fried. That meet-up happens at 4:54 PM ET on Sunday; Pluto squares Mercury at 8:24 AM ET on MONDAY, followed by a square to the Sun at 8:07 PM ET. Another shoe drops on WEDNESDAY at 8:37 AM ET when Mars (action, courage, anger) squares Saturn (control, cuts, brick walls).

Monday is a holiday in the U.S. Enjoy. No sleeping in on TUESDAY, when the Gemini Moon will definitely be buzzing, and Jupiter leaves Libra for Scorpio (to be covered in the next forecast).

And now, the news.

Guess who else has a tough aspect between Venus and Saturn? Former Congressman Tim Murphy (R-PA), the 65-year-old proud sponsor of a bill passed by the House that would ban and criminalize abortions after 20 weeks. Turns out this fiercely pro-life legislator asked his 32-year-old mistress to get an abortion when she thought she might be pregnant. And then he blamed all the anti-choice posts on his Facebook page on his staff, as NYT columnist Gail Collins cheerfully explains.  Murphy’s Venus-Saturn conjunction was hit by this week’s Full Moon, whose Sabian Symbols suggested we’d see headlines about things blowing up in people’s faces (thanks to Avid Reader Lesley for sending me that tidbit).

Murphy announced he will leave Congress by the end of the month. Born on Sept 11, 1952, his 19 Virgo Sun was hit by this week’s Venus-Mars meet-up in Virgo. He might have Moon in Gemini — and if so, it would not surprise me if that Moon were around 22 degrees, thus opposed by transiting Saturn at 22 Sagittarius. That can feel sad and lonely. He also has Mars (aggression) in a tense aspect to Mercury (communication), and apparently working in his Congressional office was akin to working in a war zone, with a 100% turnover rate. Fun fact: this perpetrator of abuse, hypocrisy and deceit is a former psychologist. His horoscope suggests we’d have much to discuss if we asked him about his mother.

Meanwhile across the aisle, award-winning producer Harvey Weinstein is suing the NYT for publishing allegations of sexual harassment and settlements with women he harassed over the past few decades.  Mr. Weinstein’s offensive behavior was noted here in 2015, after an eclipse to his Pisces Sun.

Here’s another blow-up: State Street Corporation, the financial firm that brought the provocative “Fearless Girl” statue to Wall Street earlier this year, has been fined millions of dollars for its pattern of consistently paying women and minorities less than their white male peers. Perhaps that’s why it installed a statue of a little girl — not a grown woman — staring down that bull…

UPDATE: on P45. Yesterday’s Venus-Mars conjunction made a provocative hit to his horoscope, as noted here on Monday. What did he do yesterday? Hosted a dinner of military officers and called it “the calm before the storm, freaking the Twitterverse out.   Because it’s fun for him to end the week on a cliffhanger, so viewers will come back for the next episode.

I would not be surprised if White House Chief of Staff makes news in the next few days, as transiting Mars meets up with his natal Mars in Virgo.

Transiting Mars also met up with the natal Mars of Special Prosecutor Robert S. Mueller. This week it was revealed that his team met with Christopher Steele, the man behind the “pee tape”dossier on P45 and his ties to Russia. In other news, it was revealed that Jared and Ivanka have maintained at least three email accounts on a private server, and these accounts were used for official government business. It was also revealed that Ivanka and P45 Jr “were close to being charged with felony fraud, ” reports ProPublica. “New York prosecutors were preparing a case. Then the D.A. overruled his staff after a visit from a top donor: Trump attorney Marc Kasowitz.”

Meanwhile….

We do not have a birth time for Kazuo Ishiguro, winner of this year’s Nobel Prize for Literature. Sun in Scorpio; Moon in Aries — perhaps the latter is being supercharged by Pluto. What is definitely hot in his horoscope is this: natal Mercury conjunct Neptune at 26 and 28 Libra, respectively. Mercury-Neptune aspects are superb for creators of fiction and fantasy; it’s apt that Mr. Ishiguro is known for writing from the point of view of narrators with selective memories.  His Mercury-Neptune conjunction is squared by the potentially lucky and boundless meet-up between Jupiter and Uranus in Cancer, suggesting more innovative, magical thinking. All four planets are being hit this week by Jupiter and Uranus, with their potential for lucky breaks! Of course he would win that Nobel Prize now.

What about you? Are you up for a big break? Find out in a personal consultation. Here’s the 411.

Last but not least: there’s a bookshelf in the laundry room of my building where neighbors leave offerings. On a day with a Full Moon in me-me-me Aries, opposing the Sun in we-we-we Libra AND a Venus-Mars hook-up in perfectionist Virgo, here’s what I found clustered together. Astrology is amazing.

Wednesday & Thursday 10/4-5/2017: Full Moon in Aries; Tom Petty, RIP

Alll righty then!

The intuitive, empathic Pisces Moon has been void since 3:19AM ET; it won’t shift gears into me-me-me Aries until 4:40 PM ET. Go with the flow; stick to routine and chill. A Moon void suggests an opportunity for you to wake up to the smell of gas, courtesy of the cat jumping on the stove in the middle of the night. You might also dump fresh-ground coffee into the Melitta brewing-thingy, without lining said thingy with a paper filter (caught myself just in time). Anyone else have odd twists and flakes to report?

Emotions may be on the rise, reflecting the waxing Moon. The Full Moon will be exact on THURSDAY (tomorrow) at 2:40PM ET. The Sun will be at 12 Libra; the Moon will be at 12 Aries. Both will square Pluto — and also the U.S. Cancer Sun. What illiumination and power plays shall we receive in the aftermath?

Speaking of Pluto (power; breakdown; transformation), when we run the Full Moon chart set for Washington D.C., we see Pluto at 16 Capricorn — exact exact exact on a 16 Capricorn Ascendant. That seems significant. It is where the New Moon will fall on January 16 2018. We’ll see if there is a connection between what is brought to light in this Full Moon and what seeds are planted at the start of the year.

The Sabian Symbols for the Full Moon are — for the Aries Moon: “an unsuccessful bomb explosion”; for the Libra Sun: “children blowing up soap bubbles.” Sabian Symbol guru  Blain Bovee suggests we apply these Symbols with a mind to “attempting to contain delicate but explosive situations….hollow threats…bubbling sounds…remarks that blow up in your face…extreme expressions of gaiety and doom; frivolity and seriousness…a big show for a little result.” OK. Let’s watch.

Also happening tomorrow: Venus meets up with Mars in Virgo at 12:53 PM ET, just before the Full Moon. The Sabian Symbol for this meet-up of yin with yang; social expression with action is “an automobile caravan.” Bovee writes that this Symbol suggests a line-up of selves who are in full command of his/her mobility. Having achieved a level of self-mastery, we are invited to consider these two questions: 1) “if you have mastered your own power, why follow others?” and 2) “If you have mastered your own power, why not join with others so that even more can be accomplished?” Let’s see how these questions play out in the news. Meanwhile, you are personally affected by this meet-up if you have a planet or angle around 19 degrees of Virgo, Gemini, Sagittarius and/or Pisces.

And now, the news.

Thanks to Avid Reader Jane, who emailed me the time of the Wretched Incident in Las Vegas: 10:08 PM on October 1, 2017.  There are heavy planets making contact with the angles of the chart — Saturn and Mars — just as anticipated.  Note that in the horoscope of the U.S., transiting Saturn and Mars are in a heavy connection with the U.S. Mars-Neptune square. Translation: outburst and reality check  (Saturn) on the America’s idealization of guns (Mars square Neptune).

UPDATE: it is being reported that Stephen Paddock was prescribed anti-anxiety meds in June. That would be consistent with the second hit of transiting Saturn squaring his (likely 22 degree Pisces) Mercury, suggesting potential depression and other heavy thoughts — noted here on Monday. One of the side effects of those meds is aggression.

UPDATE: Jimmy Kimmel continues to reflect the persuasive and empowered action potential suggested in his horoscope — noted here last month. First it was health care; now it is gun control. He is from Las Vegas. Here is his opening monologue from Monday night.

As if Monday weren’t wretched enough, music legend Tom Petty passed away (after much confusion over his actual status). Cause of death: cardiac arrest. We do not have a birth time for Mr. Petty, but we can still see in what we do know how this awful event could have triggered. Mr. Petty has a Mars-Saturn square in his horoscope, and his natal Mars at 17 Sagittarius was exactly squared by transiting Mars at 17 Virgo on Sunday. Mars to Mars suggests a release of energy.

In the language of astrology, the heart is symbolized by the Sun. Last week Mr. Petty had the 3rd hit of transiting Jupiter conjunct his 26 degree Libra Sun. Jupiter expands whatever it touches, for better of for worse. So yes, Mr. Petty had an expansive and presumably rewarding summer touring the country. Last week he played at the Hollywood Bowl and I wish I had been there to see it. But expansive is not always beneficial in matters of the heart, especially if the Sun in the horoscope is under pressure from other patterns (as it was when Justice Antonin Scalia passed away last year). In Mr. Petty’s case, we see transiting Uranus will make its second exact opposition to his Libra Sun on October 14th. Uranus refers to electricity, shock and disruption.

Sigh.

Here are links to “14 Essential Tracks” by Tom Petty, compiled by the New York Times.  They are timeless.

Meanwhile, reflecting the potential of Venus (art, women, money) in harmony with  Pluto (empowerment) in earthy Virgo and Capricorn, respectively, we find “Nude Sculpture Four Stories Tall Planned for National Mall.” The sculpture is of a woman in yoga pose called “Mountain.” There’s your earth.

While “nude” may be a tasteful expression for Virgo, it seems that suggestive block forms are not. Virgo can take its need for discernment to downright prissiness. Here is that potential “chastity” of Venus and Mars meeting up in Virgo (exact tomorrow): “Louvre Pulls Sculpture, Saying It Was Sexually Explicit.” You be the judge.

Thank you for reading this forecast. If you are curious to know how these patterns are meaningful in your own horoscope…or you want to learn the many other ways astrology can be used as a tool for living life better, here’s how to contact me.

Monday 10/2/2017: Sneak Peek at the Week — and Next Week, Too

(I started writing this late last night, a few hours after yesterday’s harmony between Mars (guns, anger, action) and Pluto (power, ruthlessness). Hmmm, I thought. Haven’t really seen an example of this easy flow of energy in the headlines..at least not in the U.S. Now waking up to Las Vegas. Sigh.)

Good Morning!

The Aquarius Moon will be void between 7:13 AM and 10:26AM ET. East Coasters, there’s your excuse for sleeping in — or any twists and delays that disrupt your efforts to move forward in straight line. Once the Moon moves into Pisces, see if you notice the shift.

There are no challenging aspects to the Moon today. Go with the Pisces intuitive flow and find ways to fulfill its need to work with impressions and ideals. Practice random acts of kindness and senseless beauty, motivated by the Pisces awareness that All is One and One is All. Compassion. Empathy. Big time.  There’s a special depth to social expression for the next few days, as Venus (money, women, art, social values) harmonizes with Powers That Be Pluto. Consolidation of power and money in the material world, perhaps? Venus is in perfectionist Virgo; Pluto is in Establishment Capricorn; both are earth signs.

On Wednesday at 3:19 AM ET, Moon goes void on a challenging aspect to patriarchal Saturn. That can be cutting. The void lasts until 4:40PM ET, suggesting that crises which crop up during business hours on that day will be much ado about nothing. Chill and stick to routine concerns; avoid impulse shopping until after the Moon enters impulsive Aries. That’ll pick up the pace of the evening and continue the charge into…

…THURSDAY, when the Aries Moon will officially be Full (of itself, no doubt) at 2:40PM ET. Me or We — what shall it be? That’s the dilemma when a me-me-me Aries Moon faces off against a people-pleasing Libra Sun.  A quest for a more perfect union is suggested, as Venus (yin) and Mars (yang) unite in Virgo at 12:53 PM ET. FYI: this meet up will challenge (square) P45’s Gemini Sun and Sagittarius Moon. Cue his favorite campaign tune –  “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” – and run for cover.

If you have a planet or angle around 20-22 degrees of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces that part of your horoscope will be feeling the charge from Venus & Mars, along with the frustrating squeeze of Saturn. Consult your local astrologer for details. (Updating this paragraph to add that the Mars-Neptune square in the U.S horoscope at 20 Gemini and 22 Virgo, respectively, is now being triggered –literally — by transiting Mars at 20 Virgo and Saturn at 22 Sagittarius. Mars square Neptune is reflected in America’s idealization (Neptune) of guns (Mars).  Its worst potential is reflected in the massacre in Las Vegas we all woke up to this morning).

At 9:46 PM ET on Thursday, Moon makes its weekly clash with Pluto (power plays, emotional catharsis). It meets up with rebel Uranus at 2:58 PM ET on FRIDAY. The work week ends on Something Big, as the Aries Moon opposes expansive Jupiter at 6:38 PM ET (watch the late-breaking news). One hour later, Moon enters Taurus, seeking stability and comfort for the evening and through the weekend. The following week looks….interesting. More on that in a minute.

And now, the news.

We do not have a time for the start of the latest U.S. massacre as I am writing — though we are sure to see heavy planets on the angles of the chart, whenever that time is determined.  [UPDATE: 10:08 PM; 21 Gemini ASC with Saturn opposing it; Mars squaring it]. This event is now the  record-breaker in terms of people killed and wounded. The Independent published a birth date for the 64 year-old while male who brought an arsenal of automatic weapons to a 32nd floor hotel room in Las Vegas, and fired on hundreds of concertgoers at a country music festival below. Birth date: April 9, 1953. [UPDATE: the Telegraph is now saying “believed to have been born on April 9, 1953” — so the following analysis, apt as it may be for that birth date, may not apply to this particular perpetrator). Sun at 19 Aries; Moon in Aquarius; Mercury around 22 Pisces. Mercury — the way he needs to think — has been feeling the squeeze of Saturn at 21-22 Sagittarius since late June; heavy thoughts indeed. Transiting Mars squaring his Mercury in recent days suggests a prompt to take action.

His Aries Sun is squared natally by rebel Uranus at 14 Cancer and opposed by Neptune and Saturn at 22 and 24 Libra. At its worst, this pattern could be delusional, rebellious and repressed — all at the same time.  Also part of that unstable pattern: natal Venus in Aries — retrograde. This is an extremely challenging placement for relationships. It suggests an insatiable need to know it is loved — blinded by unrealistic expectation (Venus is opposed by Saturn and Neptune). Transiting Uranus has been sitting on his natal Venus and opposing Saturn-Neptune. This can be impulsive and weird.

Transiting Pluto has been supercharging his Aries Sun, suggesting a transformation of identity and/or empowerment. His natal Mars and Jupiter in methodical Taurus are square to Pluto — a potentially murderous and resourceful pattern. It is possible that his Aquarius Moon is in an exceptionally tense pattern with those three planets — without a birth time, we can’t be sure. His natal Jupiter is at 23 Taurus, conjunct P45’s Midheaven and the Fixed Star Capulus (male sexual aggression). Not sure how this Jupiter-Midheaven connection will be “lucky” for P45, other than to provide a media distraction from Russia, Puerto Rico, corruption in his administration, etc. for a few days.

Meanwhile….(this part was written last night):

Saturn, planet of cuts and control, is less than three months away from wrapping up its sojourn in Sagittarius, where it’s (mostly) been since December 23, 2014. Here’s what I wrote back then:

Saturn refers to control, discipline and structure. Sagittarius refers to collective belief systems, including the law, religion, philosophy and academia. Hmm…how about mind control? Or tests of faith?  It also refers to publishing and other mass communication media, as well as sports and entertainment. Expect efforts involving restrictions and/or restructuring. Sagittarius refers to that which is foreign, so issues of border control will likely become hotter. It refers to travel.  So we can expect headlines involving controls in these areas, too.

Righteousness is another Sagittarius buzzword, as is blunt honesty. As its best, the Saturnine restructuring of Sagittarius concerns will stem from righteousness, much as the restructuring of the institution of marriage (Libra) to include same-sex couples evolved when Saturn was in Libra. Fairness is a big Libra buzzword. Got that?

After Saturn turned direct last month, I noted a pile of stories involving streamlining in publishing and education. The Village Voice is no longer in print. Online yes; print, no. The NY Daily News was sold — for one dollar. Wow. Four magazine editors called it quits last month, including Vanity Fair’s Graydon Carter and Glamour‘s Cindi Leive.  The magazine business is in serious trouble — as I personally experienced last week while searching every drug store, newsstand and supermarket for the latest Dell Horoscope. No luck at all — and even more shocking — serious cuts in the overall number of magazines on sale. Two days later, the NYT wrote about the “not-so glossy future of magazines.” Then Life magazine publisher Katherine Bonniwell passed away, followed by  Playboy founder Hugh Hefner (good riddance) and S.I. Newhouse (legendary Conde Nast mogul).   End of an era?

Meanwhile in the world of academia, I noted several bleak articles — especially this one about adjunct professors: “Facing Poverty, Academics Turn to Sex Work and Sleeping in Cars.”

I promised you more stories involving themes of excess in aviation, suggested by last Thursday’s face-off between Jupiter (big) and Uranus (“the plane, the plane!”). Cue former Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price, who resigned after billing hundreds of thousands of dollars in travel expenses to taxpayers. Fun fact: Mr. Price was born on October 8, 1954 in Lansing, MI (time unknown). Guess what he has in his horoscope? Jupiter conjunct Uranus — exactly at 27 Cancer! It’s squared by Neptune and opposed by Mars, suggesting a need for excitement, risk and scandal.  Remember his “shady” stock trades?    Astrology is amazing.

Meanwhile, across the Pond, the UK’s Monarch Airlines “collapsed,” apparently stranding over 100,000 people.

Let’s see…what else. Oh. Pluto (plutocracy) turned direct last week, and P45 unveiled a tax plan. Who would benefit the most? The 1%.

Random Venus-Mars-Pluto story: a sex robot was “molested and destroyed” at an electronics show. Add the bewildering technology of the Uranus-Neptune semisquare, discussed in a prior post, to that mix.

The fallout from the series of seven revolutionary Uranus-Pluto squares continues in Spain, where 90% of voters in Catalonia voted to separate from the mothership…violent efforts to control the insurgents ensued

…and in closing:

Planetary patterns next week are challenging, and will be felt as we move into the weekend. We’ll have a lean, mean Saturn-Venus square on Sunday 10/8; a “take no prisoners” Pluto-Mercury square AND and a  power play Pluto-Sun square on Monday 10/9; on Wednesday 10/11, Saturn (control; ambition; frustration) squares Mars (anger; guns; action). These patterns directly impact P45’s horoscope and the horoscope for the inauguration. In the lattter, note that on 10/12 and 10/13, transiting Mars squares Saturn and opposes Mars, respectively; Jupiter squares the Sun on the 14th; Uranus squares the Midheaven on 10/19. Frustration, action, expansion, change.

In P45’s horoscope, Mars squares his natal Moon and Sun on 10/8 and 10/11; his horoscope gets the third and final opposition between transiting Saturn (control; cuts) to his Sun on 10/11. These are tough times for him — as evidenced in SNL’s Weekend Update, with Colin Jost and  Michael Che’s cutting commentary.  Alec Baldwin did his part as well — in the show’s cold open.  Comedy is a coping strategy for pain, doncha’ know…

Thank you for reading this forecast. To find out what all these planetary patterns mean in your own personal world, here’s the 411 on consultations. Much gratitude for all the client referrals and contributions to my Cosmic Tip Jar in recent weeks. I am delighted to be of service.

Tuesday 9/26/2017: Sneak Peek at the Week; Cosmic Breaks; Pluto Power Plays

Alll-righty then!

The work week began with a sigh of relief as the Moon entered optimistic Sagittarius at 12:01 AM ET on MONDAY. Anything to escape the intensity of the weekend’s Moon in moody Scorpio!  A challenge between a Mercury (mindset) in Virgo (refinement) and Saturn (control) in Sagittarius (opinion) suggested gravitas in thought and communication. That pattern was exact Monday at 10:36 AM ET.

Today the Sag Moon continues without interference through most of the business day. Consider a gambol or a gamble; think outside the box; take a walk in the woods; catch a foreign film; tell the entire Free World your righteous opinion. As we get closer to 8:15 PM ET, note the potential for an ambitious patriarchal reach or wet blanker to weigh in, courtesy of the Moon’s meet-up with stern Saturn.

The Moon will be void on WEDNESDAY between 7:08AM ET and 12:24 PM ET. Roll with the twists and flakes that may disrupt your morning. Crises that crop up are often much ado about nothing when the Moon is void. Stick to routine concerns. After lunch it will be all business as the Moon enters enterprising Capricorn, where it will be for the rest of the work week. The Moon’s  weekly clash with Pluto and Uranus hits at 10:36PM ET on THURSDAY and 7:20PM ET on FRIDAY. Power plays, emotional catharses and sudden upsets are more likely when the Moon’s journey through the cosmos is challenged by these heavies.

But wait, there’s more. There are two significant patterns happening on THURSDAY which we are feeling now. I really can’t do better than this headline from today’s WaPo Daily 202:  “ Trump’s plutocracy problem complicates push for tax cuts”  The keyword here is PLUTOCRACY, and the planetary pattern it reflects is PLUTO turning direct in Power That Be CAPRICORN on Thursday at 3:33PM ET. Isn’t that interesting? Pluto also refers to news from underground. A volcano in Bali may be “hours away” from erupting after “unprecedented seismic activity.”

Pluto has been slowing to a virtual dead stop all month, stationing at 16 degrees of Capricorn. If you have a planet around 16 -18 degrees of Capricorn, Aries, Libra or Cancer, you’re probably feeling the pressure for a power play or transformation. Jimmy Kimmel fits that category. So does Megyn Kelly, who launched a goofy new talk show yesterday. I’m not sure what to make of the pinky pussy-bow blouse she opted to wear for her big debut.  That would never have happened on Fox.

Guess what part of the body Capricorn rules? The KNEE. Saturn is the ruler of Capricorn, so it also refers to the knee. Saturn is in Sagittarius, which refers to publishing, opinions and sports. What made headlines all through the weekend, against the added backdrop of Neptune (vision, headline, fatih) opposing Mars (athletes & other warriors)? Professional athletes peacefully protesting police brutality against people of color, as Eric Reid, a player for the San Francisco 49ers, explains.  What are they doing? TAKING A KNEE. How can this be a mere coincidence? (It can’t).

Former 49er quarterback Colin Kaepernick is the player who started it all, and it should surprise absolutely no one that Mr. Kaepernick is a Scorpio with the Sun conjunct Pluto. What drives him? The Moon in Aries, which needs to be first in all things. Of course he went FIRST.  Where is his Mars (how he needs to act)?  16 degrees of Libra, supercharged by transiting Pluto right this very minute! Mars in Libra is the quintessential warrior for peace! Where is his Mercury (the way he needs to think and communicate)? At 28 Libra, amplified by transiting Jupiter in Libra and opposed by Uranus in Aries. Of course he’s being seen as a disruptive thinker, big time.   He is going to be making news on this issue through 2018.

Was that fascinating and helpful? Did you learn something new? If so, please support this work by making a generous donation to my Cosmic Tip Jar.  It’s the big gold DONATE button you’ll see on the left hand side of the Daily Forecast page. Thank you!

Another big pattern exact on Thursday is the third opposition between expansive Jupiter and rebel Uranus, happening at 12:24 AM ET. Jupiter refers to excess; Uranus refers to aviation. This just in:  “Plane crash which killed UN boss Dag Hammarskjold may have been casued by aircraft attack.”   In other news:  why are alleged public servants like Treasury Secretary Steve Munchkin and Health & Human Services Secretary Tom Price using taxpayer-funded charter jets instead of flying commercial? Is it really worth $25,000 per hour to have a “secure phone line” on a short hop from NY to DC? Tom Price billed taxpayers $300,000 so he wouldn’t be “inconvenienced.” I bet a lot of taxpayers could get desperately needed dental care for $300,000…

Can you tell the Moon is in righteously opinionated Sagittarius?

Sudden changes of fortune, genetic mutations and big wake-up calls are also reflected by Jupiter-Uranus. “Nerve implant restores consciousness to man in persistent vegetative state.”  That is certainly a big wake-up call.  Uranus refers to seismic activity. Combine the expansive Jupiter-Uranus energy with Pluto (“news from underground”) and it is no surprise to read that a volcano eruption in Bali may be “hours away after unprecedented seismic activity.”   Watch for big news of power — or lack thereof — in the tech industry this week.

And now, more news.

Anthony Weiner. I can’t believe I’ve been following his horoscope since June 2011, when his horoscope was eclipsed and his secret sexting hobbies were outed for all the world to see.  That June 2011 eclipse happened at 11 Gemini, square his Virgo Sun, Uranus and Pluto. Those three planets were eclipsed again in September of 2016 and February 2017,  with predictions for 2017 noted here.  Yesterday, with transiting Mars at 12 Virgo (i.e., triggering that ancient eclipse and his pile-up of Virgo planets), he was sentenced to 21 months in prison.  Bewildering? A wipe out? Yes, most definitely. Transiting Neptune (which dissolves whatever it touches) is exactly opposite Weiner’s Sun, Uranus and Pluto.

Guess what else has a significant planet at 12 Virgo? The horoscope of Puerto Rico.  That’s where its Moon is. Its Mercury at 26 Leo was hit by the Big Fat Solar Eclipse last month…which fell in its 10th House of public status. Mercury refers to communication and transportation. With gas and electricity in dangerously short supply, there is not much communication and transportation to be had. Eclipsed?  Here are satellite images of Puerto Rico at night — before and after Hurricane Maria.

Meanwhile….“Trump misreads North Korea’s sacred dynasty at his peril”  — this is a fascinating piece that argues that Kim Jong-un sees himself as the descendant of an ancient shaman king. It’s an apt piece for a week dominated by fanatical/spiritual Neptune with Mars. Elsewhere,  it seems to make perfect sense that a Republican senator from Alabama  fighting to keep his seat in a runoff today is named “Strange.”

In Virgo, Mars could refer to fastidious men. Sunday’s “Modern Love” essay in the  NYT is called “Discovering Manhood in Soapy Bubbles.” I am sure Neptune rules bubbles…

If you’d like to know what all these patterns mean for your horoscope, here’s the 411 on consultations. And here are a few raves from recent clients:

“Regarding her birth..it was a bit unusual and stressful…how were you able to see that??”
“Our conversation felt really helpful and already I feel myself standing a little taller and projecting some of my assertive energy out into the world (in a good way).”

“I hope the voice message I left you conveyed my surprise at the intense and  surreal reading you gave me on Monday.  It was astonishing. Let’s get in touch on Friday to set up the other reading. Again, thanks so much!!!”

You’re welcome!

Thank you for reading this forecast.

Friday 9/22/2017 & the Weekend: Happy Sun in Libra; Weird, Wild Neptune & Mars

TGIF!

The Libra Moon is void this morning, wandering without focus until it enters the next sign — Scorpio — at 1:40PM ET. A Scorpio Moon suggests an intense emotional drive carrying us through the weekend, seeking depth and substance in its quest for world domination.

Moon will be void again on SUNDAY at 3:33 AM ET — not to enter Sagittarius until 12:01 AM ET on MONDAY. That’s your cue to do your weekend shopping on Saturday, not Sunday, as impulse purchases made during Moon voids are rarely as useful as you thought they would be. Stick to routine during the void and chill, chill, chill.

The dominant pattern now and through Sunday is the opposition between Mars and Neptune on Sunday at 3:50PM ET. Mars refers to action, courage, combat and anger. Neptune refers to vision, film,  fog and big fat lies. Thus, I’ve been doing a Snoopy dance all week at the timeliness of Jake La Motta’s passing earlier this week. Why? Mr. La Motta was a boxer (Mars) of mythic (Neptune) proportions. He was subject of the award-winning film Raging Bull.  I’ve been seeing a ton of Raging Bull — in the news this week.

Other notable obituaries reflecting the glamorous and scandalous potential of Neptune-Mars: “Liliane Bettencourt, L’Oréal Heiress Vexed by Swindling Case, Is Dead at 94″.  Neptune refers to sleep and drugs; Mars rules surgery:  Dr. Edmond Eger II, 86, Dies; Found Way to Make Anesthesia Safer.  Neptune rules film; Mars rules sports: “Bernie Casey, Who Glided From Football to Hollywood, Dies at 78”. Isn’t that interesting?

Meanwhile, today marks the last day of summer — the Sun is at the end of Virgo and will move into Libra at 4:02PM ET. Happy Autumnal Equinox…a perfect balance between day and night.

Here’s what you need to know about the first day of any season  — i.e., equinoxes and solstices — from an astrological point of view. The first days of Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter correspond with the first day (or first degree) of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, respectively (there are thirty degrees in each sign of the zodiac). Got that? Good.

These four signs are called cardinal signs. Cardinal signs initiate. They come up with the idea and put it into action, which leads to necessary change. “Cardinal” suggests (from the Latin root of the word), “that on which something turns or depends.”  So the first day/degree of a Cardinal sign is a turning point. In astrology, the technical term for the first degree of any Cardinal sign is the “Aries Point”, just to confuse people who are not professional astrologers. In other words, the first day of Cancer, Libra, Capricorn and Aries is the Aries Point. The first day of Taurus (and the rest of the signs) is NOT at the Aries Point). Clear?

Equinoxes and solstices are also prominent. We make a fuss over them, right? In Japan, the first day of each season is actually a national holiday. How cool is that? Thus, in a horoscope, a planet or angle at the Aries Point needs to be prominent. Off the top of my head, Meryl Streep & Elizabeth Warren both have the Sun at the Aries Point (though they are Cancers, mind you — born on the same day). They’re pretty prominent in everything they do, don’t you think?

Libra is an airy, mental sign, generally concerned with relationships, social graces and with promoting fairness, justice and balance. Its ruling planet is Venus, which can be oh-so-sweet and socially gracious. Libra’s mantra is : I BALANCE. This does not mean Librans are balanced; it means they generally are seeking balance and are quite capable of swinging back and forth wildly as they search for it. As sweet as Libra can be, they are not marshmallows. The term “iron fist in a velvet glove” often applies. Jimmy Carter is a Libra. So was Margaret Thatcher, dubbed the “Iron Lady.” Perhaps that also reflects her Scorpio Ascendant.  Vladimir Putin is  a Libra — rumored to have a Scorpio  Ascendant, too.

No sleeping in on MONDAY. Moon will be in high-flying Sagittarius — but thoughts and communication may be seriously sobering, as Saturn (control) will square Mercury (mindset) at 10:36 AM ET. Wake up and smell the coffee.

And now, more news.

The last time Jimmy Kimmel made headlines with a potent perspicacious spin on the need for actual affordable health care accessible to ALL — was around May 8th. Guess what pattern was hot in the cosmos? A challenge between MARS and NEPTUNE. Back then it was a square. Now it is an opposition — the next stage in the cycle. Think First Quarter Moon moving on to Full Moon. This week Mr. Kimmel is making news again, calling out Congress on its fanatical (Neptune-Mars) effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act for the 348th time. He’s playing the role of Mercury (mindset) in harmony with dirt-digging Pluto (a pattern exact today at 1:59 PM ET), against the other Raging Bull–. Do we see this surge of persuasive action in his horoscope? Yes!

Mr. Kimmel is a Scorpio with a need for a vision, suggested by his Sun-Neptune conjunction. He is driven by the me-me-me need of his pioneering Moon in Aries, which is likely in a challenging pattern with Mars in “make it happen” Capricorn. This Mars is being supercharged by transiting Pluto this year and into next, so we can appreciate why Mr. Kimmel would be especially forceful in action. Here is the latest clip of Mr. Kimmel speaking truth to power on his show. As for The Guardian saying that Mr. Kimmel has emerged as the “unlikely”  leader of the fight to save the Afffordable Care Act, obviously it hasn’t seen his horoscope.

Meanwhile, at the United Nations, P45 praised the health care system of an African nation which does not exist.  Earlier this week he threatened to destroy North Korea. Yesterday, Kim Jong-un declared P45 a  “mentally deranged U.S. dotard,” boosting web traffic at dictionary dot com and perfectly reflecting the delusional potential of this week’s planetary patterns.  Also imaginary:

A Mexican navy official has apologized for confusion over reports that a 12-year-old girl was trapped alive after a Mexico City school collapsed in the wake of a magnitude 7.1 earthquakethat killed more than 280 people nationwide.

Reporters covered “rescue efforts” for over a day…only to find out that all of the students in that school were accounted for. Surreal…and how interesting that an apology for the error would come from the Navy (Neptune!).

Mars rules the head. Neptune is madness. Aaron Hernandez was an NFL player convicted of murder. He commited suicide in April. This week it was revealed that he had C.T.E, a disease of the brain often seen in football players. Symptoms include “problems with controlling aggression and impulses, and some degree of dementia, as well as mood swings, lapses in judgment and a disorganized manner”.

Final story of the day sent in by an Avid Reader. “Back in 1982 I was dealing acid at Jim Morrison’s grave and that’s when I met Vladimir Putin.”  Fact, fiction or just weird, wiggy ride of Neptune opposing Mars?

And what’s Neptune doing in your horoscope? Here’s the 411 on consultations and reports.

Thank you for reading this forecast.

Wednesday 9/20/2017: Late Sneak Peek at a Wiggy Week; New Moon in Virgo

Late post this week, as my writing efforts were focused on finishing another article for The Mountain Astrologer — coming soon to a newsstand near you…huzzah!

Meanwhile, the Moon entered people-pleasing Libra at 6:06AM ET, driving the next few days with a quest for balance, fairness and rational debate. Said quest will be subject to power plays and upsets, as the Moon makes its weekly clash with Pluto (1:01PM ET on THURSDAY) and Uranus (9:04 AM ET on FRIDAY). Today, however, while there are other electric and wiggy patterns humming in the background, the path of the Moon is free of bumps. So off we go, inspired by the New Moon that occurred at 1:30 AM ET in Virgo.

What can we say about Virgo? Well, it is an earth sign (as opposed to fire, water or air), and thus practical, with material concerns. It is also a mutable sign, as opposed to cardinal or fixed. What does that mean? Cardinal signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn; they need to come up with the idea and take action.  Fixed signs are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius. These signs need to organize and give form to the concepts pitched by cardinal signs. Mutable signs — Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces — get to spread the word about the cool forms the fixed signs made. Mutable signs are much more subject to change, compared to Cardinal and Fixed. Think of a weathervane spinning in whatever direction the wind happens to blow.

Other Virgo tidbits: it is ruled by Mercury. Virgo is all about analysis and making thing right.  In health matters,  Virgo rules the intestinal tract and assimilation. If you have planets in Virgo in your horoscope, and they are under a great deal of developmental tension, you may have some issues with your digestive system, especially with how your system absorbs nutrition from food.

This New Moon has four planets in Virgo: Sun, Moon, Mercury and Mars. That’s a lot of energy focused on breaking things down into tiny bits of perfect data, separating the wheat from the chaff. However, the Virgo need for precision has been challenged this week by the influence of foggy Neptune. In the language of astrology, Neptune refers to drugs, oceans, faith, delusions, deceptions, oil, healing, spirits and other intangibles.

On this New Moon, Neptune opposed Mercury (how we think and communicate) and Mars (action; assertion; machism0). “Disturbing images show Navy hospital staffers mishandling infant, calling babies ‘mini Satans’,” reports the Washington Post. Surreal? A tad fanatical? Hurricane Maria Does ‘Mind-Boggling’ Damage to Dominica, Leader Says, reports the NYT. How often do we see “mind-boggling” in a headline? “Porn-actor-turned-spy who posed as jihadist gets suspended sentence,”  the Guardian tells us. Intrigue and scandal, with no small amount of sex appeal — courtesy of Neptune in a hard aspect with Mars.

The Mercury-Neptune opposition was exact yesterday at 11:50PM ET. The Mars-Neptune opposition will be exact on SUNDAY at 3:50 PM ET.  Let the record show that the world is scheduled to end the day before, on September 23rd. Let the record show that this is not the first time the world has been scheduled to end, and that the last time it was on the calendar (10/6/2015), there was a Mars-Neptune opposition.  I think I see a pattern here…

Meanwhile, Mercury is in a harmonious pattern with depth-seeking Pluto, exact on FRIDAY at 1:59 PM ET. This facilitates investigative powers and persuasive communication. Some may use it to pierce the veil of murky Neptune fog and deceit.

This week, two planets change signs. Yesterday, Venus left drama queen Leo for persnickety Virgo at 9:15 PM ET. Bye-bye drama queens; hello fussbudgets. Planning a cosmetic surgery when Venus is in Virgo? Perfection may be elusive. Venus leaves Virgo on October 14th. On FRIDAY, the Sun leaves Virgo for Libra at 4:02 PM ET. This is the autumnal equinox, the start of a new season and a turning point. Watch for leaders and other movers and shakers to pull greater than average focus in the headlines through the rest of the week.

The Sabian Symbol for this Virgo New Moon is “a bald-headed man who has seized power.” Rumor has it that baldness is more prevalent in men with higher levels of testosterone. This does not appear to be based on fact; but the myth of the macho bald-headed man clues us in to what we are likely to see in the headlines during this lunar cycle. The keyword is DOMINANCE through the use of personal power, according to Sabian Symbol guru Blain Bovee. Well, power broker Pluto will turn direct on September 28th, the same day we will have the third in a series of disruptive, pie-in-the-sky oppositions between expansive Jupiter and techno shockjock Uranus. If you have a planet or angle around 27 degrees of Virgo, Gemini, Sagittarius or Pisces, this New Moon may spark action from your inner dictator.  Consult your local astrologer for details.

And now, more news.

In the wake of last week’s potentially cutting and ambitious square between Sun and Saturn, a last-gasp effort to rip health care away from millions of Americans has surfaced. The Graham-Cassidy bill will repeal the Affordable Care Act and replace it with Something Else, because…well…let these nine U.S. Senators “explain” what the bill will do and why it is good. Just keep in mind that all of this “explaining” is being done under planetary patterns (Mars, Mercury, Neptune) we often see in the horoscopes of  con artists and other persons who are Not As They Seem.

Yesterday, transiting Venus triggered August’s Big Fat Eclipse when it hit 28 degrees of Leo, right on P45’s Ascendant. Venus rules his Midheaven (career/public status) and his 3rd House of mindset and blah blah blah communication. A planet triggering an eclipse can release a surge of energy; for P45, it was a keynote address at the United Nations, in which he “vowed to ‘totally destroy North Korea.’  if North Korea threatened the United States”. Note that North Korea has its Saturn at 28 Leo, its horoscope was triggered, too. One wonders what planets in Mother Nature’s horoscope are at 28 Leo, with Hurricane Maria hammering the Caribbean and an 8.1 quake in Mexico City yesterday.

Here’s a story about a glamorous public figure with Neptune opposing her Mercury, Venus and Mars in her natal horoscope, Her natal Venus is at 28 Taurus, also affected by the eclipse.  Today, she speaks out: “Melania Trump to condemn bullying at U.N. luncheon.” For real?

Meanwhile, I saw a ton of stories reflecting the potential of “diversity, technology, humanitarians, quirky comedians and pioneering women” anticipated for the weekend, including virtually every story in the Sunday NYT’s Week in Review.  Sunday’s Emmy Awards also reflected those keywords — just look at Variety’sFive Key Takeaways from Emmys 2017.”   Elsewhere, Hillary Clinton was one of many offering “stirring” eulogies for Edith Windsor, who passed away last week at 88.  Ms. Windsor also embodied planetary patterns at the time of her death, which we’ve seen over and over again. From her  NYT obituary:

(Ms. Windsor’s)  landmark case led the Supreme Court to grant same-sex married couples federal recognition for the first time and rights to a host of federal benefits that until then only married heterosexuals had enjoyed…

Last but not least, an UPDATE on John Kelly. This retired general is working overtime to bring order and discipline to the White House as its Chief of Staff. He has Mars and Saturn in uber-organized Virgo, so this is helpful. However, as noted in a prior post, transiting Neptune is opposing his natal Saturn. Yes, his ambition has likely become a vision for him this year — perhaps even a quixotic quest. But Neptune in hard aspect to Saturn can turn ordinary reality into a bewildering slog through Wonderland. Transiting Saturn squaring Kelly’s Mars (action) may further ambition or simply be frustrating…and it is possible that his Pisces Moon is feeling the isolating squeeze of Saturn, too. Here is what that might look like,  if those transits ever happen to you:

…and here is the story behind that photo.
