Astro-logical Forecast for 2/24/2014: Sun-Neptune in the News; Sneak Peek at the Week

This week brings an interesting mix of startling revelations and upsets, against a cosmic backdrop that may not be sure if it’s coming or going.  Monday offers lingering effects from Sunday’s bewildering, bedazzling Sun-Neptune hook-up, which translates into a need for a rose-colored vision or escape. But once the Moon enters earthy Capricorn — engaged as of 8:50AM ET — it demands practical application of all those dreams. And fortunately, cooperative connections from the Sun, Mars, (action) and Neptune (vision, intuition) are only too happy to oblige. Meanwhile, a cooperative connection between Venus (money, women, art, social expression) and disciplined Saturn (patriarchy and other corporate structures)  at 11:50PM ET affords you an opportunity to productively get down to business. Work it out!

Major planetary patterns this week include the spectacular windfall potential of expansive Jupiter squaring rebel Uranus, exact on Wednesday at 2:33AM ET and another buoyant expansion potential with Jupiter trining the Sun late Friday night. Sunday features a potentially juicy or cranky clash between Mars (men) and Venus (women), which colors all relationships a few days in advance. But wait — there’s more: mental Mercury turns direct on Friday;  Mars (action!) and Saturn (structure, ambition, contraction) turn retrograde on Saturday and Sunday; Jupiter (expansion) turns direct on March 6th — next Thursday. OK, so — like I said — a cosmic backdrop that’s not sure if it’s coming or going, but quite certain it’s ripe for change. Oh, and there’s a New Moon on Saturday, too. Change!

Moon voids this week — schedule your rest periods during these times, not events you wish to be of consequence: Monday 4:25AM ET – 8:50AM ET; Wednesday 5:51AM ET – 9:55AM ET; Friday 5:55AM ET – 9:53AM ET…not too much interference with regular business hours, at least in the Americas.

And now, the news.

Check out the lede on this AP story that hit the wires on Saturday evening:

KIEV, Ukraine — In a stunning reversal of fortune, Ukrainian opposition icon Yulia Tymoshenko left imprisonment Saturday and spoke to a massive, adoring crowd, while her arch-foe President Viktor Yanukovych decamped to eastern Ukraine and vowed he would remain in power.

“Stunning reversal of fortune”…what an apt reflection of patterns involving Jupiter and rebel Uranus, triggering a release of greater tensions built up in the never-ending revolutionary Uranus-Pluto square. If you haven’t been following the drama that’s been unfolding in the Ukraine in recent weeks, the New York Times explains it all succinctly right here. Meanwhile, the surreal magical mystery tour of the Saturday’s Sun-Neptune hook-up was added to the mix when “street fighters” entered Yanukovych’s residential compound — peacefully, mind you — and discovered its “bizarre vision of opulence” (noted added subtext: corruption exposed, courtesy of Pluto in Capricorn).

In another stunning reversal of fortune, also tinged with Sun-Neptune themes, this one involving drugs: the “world’s most wanted man,” Mexican drug kingpin Joaquín Guzmán Loera (El Chapo), was arrested — apparently also peacefully — in his home state.

More Sun-Neptune: the “sometimes elegant, sometimes flashy, sometimes bewildering” closing ceremony of the Olympic Games at Sochi received a rhapsodic, rose-colored review. A story about “asylum, (immigration) fraud and an industry of lies” in New York’s Chinatown was on yesterday’s NYT homepage. So was this piece about redemption: men exonerated — released from prison — after serving time for crimes they did not commit. And then there’s this man in New Jersey who was falsely accused by police of resisting arrest…until a videotape of the incident that had apparently been withheld by the law enforcers proved otherwise.  With Neptune, often things are not as they seem.

Oil and water  are also Neptune themes, especially with Neptune in watery Pisces…and here’s a story about an oil spill that impacted water supplies around New Orleans. And finally — Neptune refers to themes of empathy and healing. Here’s George W. Bush, in an interview with ABC’s Martha Raddatz talking about how he’s working to help veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 2/20/2014: Good Stuff & Mark Zuckerberg’s Perfect Timing

Note your dreams upon waking, along with any flashes of insight captured by your conscious mind. The Moon in substance-seeking Scorpio is easily supported by an easy connection to intuitive Neptune at 7:43AM ET, followed by an equally easy connection from expansive Jupiter in nurturing Cancer at 6:27PM ET. Blast through your to-do list, especially if it involves organization and getting to the heart of a matter. I don’t know yet if there was a winner in Wednesday night’s ginormous Powerball drawing, but next week’s planetary patterns do suggest the potential for a big payout.

On Sunday at 1:11PM ET, the Sun and nebulous Neptune meet up in dreamy Pisces, suggesting themes of fantasy, dreams, drugs, spirits, music, film and other intangible escapes. On Wednesday we’ll see Jupiter, the cosmic sugar daddy, in a challenging square to rebel Uranus. Big news in technology, revolutions, aerospace, investments and sudden changes of fortune are suggested, as well as potential seismic shake-ups and news from the cosmos. The latter pattern involves slower-moving planets; experience suggests that events often manifest before the pattern is exact.

One big item in technology and investments that hit yesterday was the acquisition of the messaging start-up What’s App by Facebook for a cool $16 billion. I was particularly delighted to see this, because when I looked at Mark Zuckerberg’s horoscope at the time of Facebook’s dismal IPO, I noted that in 2013 and 2014, his Jupiter (expansion; often material) would be supercharged by the never-ending Uranus-Pluto square. This suggested that Zuckerberg would likely be feeling very resourceful and expansive. Earlier this year he made headlines as America’s top philanthropist. Coincidence or conspiracy? Also noted in Zuckerberg’s chart: disciplined Saturn is now exactly opposing his Taurus Sun, suggesting an ambitious reach; transiting Jupiter is opposing his natal Jupiter, adding to the potential largesse.

One of the themes of the never-ending Uranus-Pluto square is nuclear energy, as in uranium and plutonium.  The ongoing situation at Fukushima reflects that theme.  As noted in prior posts, with Jupiter almost exactly engaged with Uranus, we can expect a significant headline about Fukushima — and here it is, as of minutes ago: another big leak of highly radioactive water, “the largest since last August,” when both Jupiter (expansion) and Mars (action) were engaged with Uranus and Pluto. Wow. We’ll see what develops in mid-April, when all four of those planets will be in an exact Cardinal Grand Cross.

Finally, an odd item on the home page — at least for the New York Times — but perhaps not-so-odd, given the aforementioned upcoming hook-up between the Sun and Hollywood-loving Neptune. Actor James Franco wrote an op-ed about another actor, Shia LaBeouf, whom most New York Times readers apparently would not recognize if they fell into his lap at an Oscar party (read the comments on the Op-Ed).  Franco notes that his fellow thespian has been behaving “erratically” in public and was also accused of plagiarism. Is this a sign of a nervous breakdown? Immediately I am thinking we will see stresses in LaBeouf’s horoscope involving mental Mercury, rebel Uranus, potent Pluto and probably nebulous Neptune. This would suggest supercharged communication and thinking needs, and possible issues with escapism vs. reality.  And in fact, we do see these stresses.

Natally, LaBeouf’s Gemini Sun is challenged by Uranus; his Mercury (mindset) is challenged by nebulous Neptune. That Mercury is currently being supercharged by the Uranus-Pluto square, just as Catherine Zeta-Jones’ very strong Mercury was being supercharged last April when she checked herself into a mental hospital (for help with her bipolar disorder). Point is, if Mercury is undergoing a Uranus-Pluto transit, it likely will generate a tremendous mental buzz needing a release, for better or for worse. And if you know about such a transit in advance, you can plan a strategy to use the buzz for the former, not the latter.

May you manifest the potential good times suggested by today’s planetary patterns…

Mercury retrograde is an excellent time to REview your life with your astrologer — and find out if your own Mercury is being supercharged.  Here’s the 411 on scheduling a personal consultation…I look forward to hearing from you.

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 2/22/2013: Mercury Retrograde in Pisces

Floods in Maui…a foot of snow dumped on the Midwest…more water, water today as the Moon drifts along, void-of-course in Cancer. It could be worse. Moon is generally a happy camper in Cancer, the sign it rules, so long as it is feeling safe, secure, well-fed and otherwise nurtured. Otherwise it gets crabby. Now you know how to deal with any crabby people you may encounter during this void: offer them a hug, a Kleenex or a cookie. The usual void activities apply: creative brainstorming, chilling, meditating and long lunches. Shopping is definitely not favored, especially impulse shopping.

Meanwhile, some are already reporting stalls, crashes and other communication glitches, which we would expect with the Sun and Neptune fogging things up and  mental Mercury at a standstill. The Messenger Planet reverses course at 4:41AM ET at 19 degrees of Pisces. Those of you with 19 Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces prominent in your horoscopes…or born around the 9th of March, June, September or December are more affected by Mercury’s station than others.

Contrary to popular belief, Mercury retrogrades are no reason to freak out. Mercury retrograde gets a bad rap because we are geared, in this crazy modern age, to always be thinking, doing, moving FORWARD. Ya know what that gets you? BURN OUT. We need our down times, and Mercury retrograde is a perfect time to give our minds a rest. Why else would your computer, phone and/or car choose THIS time to malfunction? Because you are supposed to be slowing down. And as you slow down, it is vitally important that you re-adjust your FOCUS.

When Mercury is retrograde through March 17th, be prepared for travel delays, scheduling screw-ups, mechanical breakdowns, computer crashes, having to repeat what you’ve just said, misunderstandings, the past coming back for a second look, surprise reunions and having to repeat what you just said. Use your FOCUS and double check important details, like whether the restaurant you’ve chosen for a meet-up is still in business.  Special extra bonus: since this Mercury retrograde is in Pisces, you may find your intuitive focus more reliable than your logical mind.

Adopt a playful attitude of flexibility to whatever twists you encounter, as with void-of-course Moons. Avoid signing contracts, making major purchases (especially mechanical ones), believing everything you hear or read in the papers and losing patience. Do plan on RElaxing, REviewing, REsearching, REorganizing, REgenerating, REconnecting and REcreating.

The Sabian Symbol for this Mercury retrograde is quite lovely:  “a table set for an evening meal”.  What an inviting image of rest and reward. And why not invite a whole bunch of people you haven’t seen in ages to join you? Believe me, the pace will pick up as we get closer to the first day of Spring and into the last week of March.

Back to tonight (Friday). It’s a party when Moon leaves Cancer for drama queen Leo at 5:12PM ET…and this spirit carries us all through Sunday night, setting the stage for the Academy Awards.  Oh, the pageantry! Oh, the emotions building to a climax as the Moon waxes to it fullness (exact on Monday afternoon ET). Oh, can it get any bigger than this (Sun will be challenged by expansive Jupiter on Monday, too)?  I haven’t looked at the horoscopes of this year’s contenders — except for Abraham Lincoln, and his horoscope suggests empowered social expression. The Uranus-Pluto square has been all over Lincoln’s natal Venus at 7 Aries, super-charging his popularity over the past year. When you’re hot, you’re hot.

I leave you now with a headline. After the Sun and Neptune (deception) met up in Pisces (fish!!!) at 2:21AM ET on Thursday, this story was all over the news: “Survey Finds That Fish Are Often Not What Label Says”. Isn’t that fabulous?

Mercury retrograde is an excellent time to REview your life in a personal astro-logical consultation, especially if you have not done so in over a year.

Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 2/21/2013: More Water, Water; Shades of Rose

More of the same from yesterday, only on the other side of the dreamy vision suggested by the soulful meet-up between the Sun and nebulous Neptune at 2:19AM ET. While you are sleeping there may be a power play or other emotional catharsis as the sensitive Moon is challenged by ruthless Pluto at 3:43AM ET.

Efforts to secure your home, family and foundation are favored all day, thanks for supportive contacts to the Moon from disciplined Saturn, proactive Mars and mental Mercury. Get it signed, sealed and delivered by 9:08PM ET, when the Moon goes void for a long rest…not to enter Leo until 5:12PM ET on Friday. Anyone got a long weekend planned?

Friendly reminder: back up your computer and smart phones NOW. Mercury goes retrograde Saturday at 4:41AM ET (another reason to sign documents now…or wait until after March 17th, when Mercury turns direct).

And now, the news. In honor of the plethora of planets in Pisces, here are a few Fish-themed headlines. First, did you know that Pisces rules the 12th house of a natal chart. This refers to secret enemies, retreats, things buried in our subconscious (“the self undoing”) and all the other stuff we sweep under a rug or otherwise confine.  Hospitals and prisons fall into this category; here’s a fascinating story about the latter, if you want to know a well-kept secret about our exploding prison population. Suffering, martyrdom and victimization are Pisces themes, too. And Pisces feels it all so deeply. No wonder they have a reputation for being so melancholy.

I don’t know if this qualifies as the rose-colored vision suggested by Sun conjunct Neptune,  but it certainly is a new vision: Google glasses  — the ones that let you access the Internet while you are looking straight ahead, walking and presumably chewing gum at the same time — are in the news again. I first read about these last summer in Physics of the Future — an absolute must-read book, because the future is happening faster than you think.

Mercury retrograde is an excellent time to REview your life in a personal astro-logical consultation, especially if you have not done so in over a year.

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 2/20/2013: Water, Water

A flood of emotion, perhaps, as Moon ingresses into watery Cancer at 5:45AM ET and heightens our need for the comforts and caring of a strong foundation, home and/or family. A smooth connection between the equally watery Sun in Pisces and the Cancer Moon suggests little resistance to initiatives, followed by a dreamy connection to the Moon from nebulous Neptune — all before noon ET. Only a potential jolt or revelation from rebel Uranus to the sensitive Moon at 6:52PM ET could shake things up…moving more sensitive types to tears.

Otherwise, it’s an excellent day for vision, healing, music, spirit, art and delectable home cooking…as well as rose-colored escapes, delusion, fantasy, drugs, deception and maybe a story about oil and water — watch the news. Why? Because the Sun in Pisces hooks up with nebulous Neptune at 2:19AM ET on Thursday. If  you are not channeling creativity or vision, your biggest challenge today may be motivation.

Astro-logical Forecast for Sunday & Monday 2/19-20/2012: Sneak Peek at the New Moon; A Nun’s Story

Networking, friendships, being of social significance, space cadets, a cerebral/scientific approach to emotions, freedom and independence — look for these themes to pull focus for the next two and a half days. Moon enters the humanitarian sign of Aquarius at 5:28AM ET, old buddy, old pal. Deal with whatever wet blanket or serious focus that may be required around 4:22AM ET, when Moon is challenged by Saturn (I’ll deal with this one in my dreams, and you can, too).

We are in the dark side of the Moon; the New Moon in Pisces is at 5:35PM ET on Tuesday.  That’s the time to light a candle and focus on your intentions for the next lunar cycle. Meanwhile, if you’re a meditative soul — or even if you’re not — take some time to tune in before Tuesday. What does your intuition tell you? A big clue to the theme of New Moon in Pisces is the Sun’s annual hook-up with nebulous Neptune — also in Pisces —  at 3:42PM ET on Sunday, combined with an  indulgent challenge to the Moon from expansive Jupiter. Note these keywords: soulful surrender, meditate, yoga, escape, intuition, fantasy, drugs, alcohol, go with the flow, bewilderment, illusion, deception, delusion, photography, film, higher realms, oil, oceans, sacrifice, empathy. It all spills over into Monday, too — sweetened by a connection between loving Venus and the Moon at 7:28AM ET that can carry you through the whole day.

Signs of nebulous Neptune on the NY Times homepage include an op-ed about drinking and drugging http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/19/opinion/sunday/bruni-whitney-houston-and-alcohols-toll.html?hp rising oil and gas prices, the “parade of stars and fans” paying tribute to Whitney Houston; and a gem of a column by Maureen Dowd about a former Hollywood starlet who became a nun — and who will be attending the Oscars next weekend because a documentary about her called “God Is Bigger Than Elvis” has been nominated. Talk about a Sun conjunct Neptune in Pisces story! Read how Dolores Hart left Hollywood for the cloister here http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/19/opinion/sunday/dowd-where-the-boys-arent.html?hp  and here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolores_Hart

Since we looked at Cardinal Timothy Dolan’s horoscope in the last post, I thought it would be interesting to look (briefly)  at the horoscope of this former starlet-turned-nun. Will we see similar patterns?

Dolores Hart was born October 20, 1938 (time unknown) in Chicago, IL  She’s a Libra with Moon in Virgo, suggesting a need to be discerning, exacting and perfecting. Like Cardinal Dolan, there is a connection between Jupiter and Neptune — a reliable signal of the importance of spirit. The Jupiter-Neptune connection is not as big and bold as the pattern in Cardinal Dolan’s chart, but it’s definitely there; and Neptune is still very strong in other ways. Charisma — and the potential for glamour is suggested by a hook-up between Neptune and Mars; it’s likely that Neptune is also involved with the Virgo Moon, which adds idealism and the intangible to that need to be discerning, exacting and perfecting. Also of note: Saturn, suggesting discipline, patriarchy, authority, control, structure, ambition — making a strong statement about a potential obsession with the father…which perhaps evolved into the Father…or perhaps the Mother Superior. Hmmmmmm…. Also found in Dolan’s chart and Hart’s: strong connections between the Sun and expansive, sunny, philosophical Jupiter and resourceful, empowering Pluto. Let the record show that Hart is in fact the Reverend Mother Dolores Hart and Prioress of the Abbey (since 2001) where she resides. And as Maureen Dowd and Wikipedia both note, the Reverend Mother remains a voting member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Powerful!
