"I'm a skeptic by nature and I still don't know how she does it, but Elisabeth told me more about myself and about critical points in my life than she could've known beforehand or can possibly be dismissed as coincidence or a parlor trick. And she helped me to use this as a framework to analyze the here and now more clearly. The session was definitely a positive, eye-opening experience."

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 5/8/2013: That’s A Wrap

Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars are all in fertile, sensual Taurus, and as of 6:09AM ET, the Moon is there, too. More focus on creating material security and enjoying simple pleasures is suggested. You can work with calm efficiency today,  wrapping up projects initiated a month ago and contemplating your New Moon agenda for the next lunar cycle, which will continue today’s concentration on issues of worth, value, material security and possessions.

A lovely connection to Moon from nebulous Neptune at 4:10PM ET suggests a need for vision or other intangible escape. Music, healing and spirit (s) are also highlighted. A not-so-lovely to Moon from stern Saturn in “deal with it” Scorpio at 8:36PM ET may end the day with a slight thud; otherwise, there is no reason not to enjoy a simply delightful evening.

And now, the news — some of it belated, but still fascinating in light of the Sabian Symbol of last month’s lunar cycle, which you will recall was “a pugilist”, yes? And also recall that one theme suggested was whether this pugilist was fighting the good fight as a warrior championing a noble cause, or a tantrum-throwing, self-absorbed baby. We expected firearms to remain prominent in the headlines, along with nitty-gritty, “you can’t look away” stories exposing raw realities of life and death, suggested by Saturn in Scorpio in the spotlight.

So here we go. First, after a gun control bill died in the Senate, the bill’s sponsor admitted that members of his party shot it down because they did not want to be seen as “helping the President”, despite polls suggesting that 90% of Americans supported the bill. Score one for the tantrum-throwing baby. Shortly thereafter, a five-year-old boy killed his two-year-old sister with rifle — and not just any rifle, mind you, but a rifle especially designed and marketed for children. I wish I’d shared this story when it broke, because the company website has since been taken down — but you can see some of it via the preceding link. Want more? On July 4th, a very special March on Washington is planned: over 900 gun owners have RSVP’d to walk through the streets, openly carrying loaded firearms — which happens to be against the law in D.C. What will happen if law enforcement officials attempt to enforce the law? Stay tuned.

But wait, there’s more. The officer in charge of sexual assault prevention programs in the Air Force was arrested — for sexual assault;    meanwhile, there’s been a sharp rise in sexual assaults in the military. In other news  the guy who brought us “Girls Gone Wild” was convicted of assault, and Viagra will soon be available online. Meanwhile, evidence of cannibalism by early settlers in Jamestown, VA has been discovered — and surprise, surprise –with all this heavy Saturn in Scorpio news, now we. learn there’s a huge hurricane on Saturn.

Finally, a fascinating investigative piece on words that have stood the test of time, as in 15,000 years — brought to you by yesterday’s Mercury (communication) in “I’ll never change” Taurus trine Pluto (investigation). And speaking of never changing,  during yesterday’s Moon void, in which surprise upsets and victories by underdogs are suggested, Mark Sanford, whose extra-marital affair generated headlines a couple of years ago when he was governor of South Carolina, was elected to Congress, in a close race against Elizabeth Colbert Busch, Stephen Colbert’s sister. Sanford was discussed in this forecast back in April.

Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 5/7/2013: A Restless Chill

East Coasters, the fired-up Aries Moon may inspire you to rise with great enthusiasm, but be advised that Moon goes void at 8:40AM ET on a jovial connection with Jupiter. All dressed up with no place to go? Let the enthusiasm carry you on a marvelous drift of a day, and roll with whatever twists may hamper efforts to move forward in a straight line. Rolling is a better strategy than a typical Moon in Aries response, and here I would be thinking of the madness at the Trader Joe’s on West 72nd Street last night, where hundreds of dangerously self-absorbed shoppers jostled each other in the aisles.

The wandering sensation of the typical Moon void may be augmented the balsamic phase (the end)  of the lunar cycle. The Moon has little light; hence, a sense of listlessness or restlessness, as we sense there is something new just around the corner, but we don’t know what. Use this time to wrap up projects initiated at the New Moon last month and think about your agenda for the next cycle, which begins Thursday at 8:28PM ET. This Taurus New Moon is also an eclipse — more on that later in the week.

Meanwhile, some interesting news from underground, as anticipated by an easy a connection between mental Mercury and Pluto, lord of the Underworld: three women who disappeared a decade ago have been found in Cleveland; three men have been arrested. And — look out East Coast —  after 17 years, the cicadas are beginning to emerge from their underground hideaways…what else will be brought to light on this day? Lastly, note the potential for impassioned, inflamed, stubborn communication around 8:33PM ET, when mental Mercury and aggressive Mars hook up in earthy, possessive Taurus. Be nice and share your toys.

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 5/6/2013: Get Up & Go

Get up, get out, get moving. Driving the energy of the day is the Moon in me-me-me Aries, a sign that falls down stairs because it’s faster than walking. In a perfect world, Aries shines as an inspiring, courageous pioneer. Otherwise, Aries can be pushy, impatient and dangerously self-absorbed, like a newborn fascinated by its fingers and toes. As we approach the time span of 5PM -6:30PM ET, be aware of the potential for a jolt, revelation or power play as the Moon makes its weekly meet-up with the disruptive Uranus-Pluto square.

Meanwhile, persistent, persuasive and deep communication are suggested during the next 36 hours, as Mercury in stubborn Taurus is aspected by investigative Pluto and willful Mars — exact on Tuesday. More dirt, news from underground and a clash of wills, I’ll wager.

Your Moon voids for the week: Tuesday 8:40AM ET until 6:09AM ET on Wednesday; Thursday 8:28 PM ET until 5:21PM ET on Friday.  Moon voids are natural rest periods which are well-suited for aimless wandering and chilling. Get it off your desk today or ship it on Wednesday; consider starting the weekend a day early. As for right this minute — onward!

Astro-logical Forecast for Sunday 5/5/2013: Serious Focus & Flow

I hope you’re enjoying the dreamy sensitivity of the weekend’s Moon in Pisces, colored by the rosy glow of mental Mercury in touch with nebulous Neptune (ruler of Pisces). Music, spiritual pursuits, healing and other idealistic escapes are favored, experienced with the depth and power of an easy connection (a trine) between Mars (action) in earthy Taurus and regenerating Pluto in earthy Capricorn. The Mars-Pluto trine follows on the heels of Wednesday’s Sun-Pluto trine, another measurement suggesting an abundance or easy flow of resources in the material plane.

Take the magical thinking potential of Mercury-Neptune,  mix it with all that Sun-Mars-Pluto empowered action/resource; add in expansive, optimistic Jupiter running wild in the middle of airy Gemini, and it appears we have a recipe for more all-time highs in the markets last week. Even more fascinating: the Jupiter/Pluto midpoint — a highly reliable suggestion of wealth — has been at the Aries Point for weeks. Avid readers of this forecast know that any astrological measurement configured with the Aries Point (0 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn) needs to demand prominence/fame. So it’s no surprise to see so many stories of outrageous fortune dominating headlines recently, like this one about trillions of dollars stashed offshore — or this one presenting yet another study about the relationship between political clout and wealth.

Energy resources have also been making headlines. Credit the Uranus (aeronautics) – Pluto (power) square reflecting the test flight of a solar-powered airplane –way to reinvent the wheel — and it’s going rather well. U.S. oil production is at levels not seen in 30 years — and hey, soon those fossil fuels will be flowing under a new pipeline slated to run right through the heart of New York City’s West Village, installed by a company which reportedly has a rather dicey safety record — huzzah! But wait, there’s more. Helium was a hot (air) topic this week, as the always-witty Gail Collins informs us — did you know we’re facing a shortage & that this is important?

Also in the headlines: a mind-bending physics bulletin I won’t pretend to fully understand, but it does reflect the disruptive power of the Uranus-Pluto square to change our perspective of the world as we know it: “Time Crystals Could Upend Physicists’ Theory of Time”.

Well, I promised you a lot of news, and I haven’t even talked about the forecast for today, Sunday, which began with a sobering opposition to mental Mercury (transportation) from stern Saturn at 7:13AM ET. This is the serious focus referred to in the forecast headline. What’s at the top of the newsfeed as I type? A story about a limousine catching fire in Northern California, killing five passengers. Sobering, indeed — and naturally I looked at the chart for the time of the fire (10pm in San Mateo, California), fully expecting to see a challenging aspect on the angles. Why? Because planets on the angles seem to have a greater need for expression, and in the case of this freak accident we immediately see the Uranus-Pluto square on the angles of the chart, suggesting a sudden, freakish, potent and potentially explosive quality to the event.

If you’re out and about running important tasks today, get them done before the Moon goes void at 12PM ET. Moon will coast through the rest of Pisces until 9:03PM ET, when it enters fiery Aries, immediately shifting the “go with the flow” energy to one of action! now! andale (and a happy Cinco de Mayo to you, too). Use the energy of the void to chill and recharge. Monday will be another day to hit the ground running.

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 5/3/2013: A Day for Artists and Dreamers

The first natural break in the action this week greets you upon waking: the Moon is still in humanitarian Aquarius, but as of 12:24AM ET, it went void-of-course on an indulgent challenge from Venus (love, money, women, art). Ahhhhh. This wandering drift suggests you could sleep in a bit later without consequence, as nothing of vital importance is likely to occur until the Moon enters Pisces at 2:25PM ET. Note the potential for odd twists during voids  — such as pouring hot water over whole beans in your efforts to become caffeinated — as the flake factor is higher during voids.

When the Moon does enter watery Pisces, it heightens emotional and intuitive sensitivity, especially as it connects with mental Mercury and nebulous Neptune after 11PM ET. A lovely evening for film, spirit and spirits, music, healing — and other pleasant escapes. Hmmmm…so much spiritual energy — what does the new Pope think of all this (on a supportive connection between Mercury (mind) and Neptune (spirit)?   I don’t know, but as yesterday’s Moon approached a benevolent trine to expansive Jupiter (a planet associated with popes and high religion), his 30th Tweet caused quite a buzz.

More later on the rest of the weekend and a thorough news round-up. The third of seven exact squares between rebel Uranus and ruthless Pluto is 17 days away, and talk of revolution continues to make headlines. Did you know that 29% of Americans think an armed rebellion “might be necessary” in the next few years?  It’s absolutely fascinating, but also not surprising, given how this disruptive square is making and will continue to make contact with planets in the US horoscope over the next couple of years. Take it away, Jefferson Airplane...

Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 5/2/2013: Shades of Rosy Buzz

Another busy day of buzz, marked by the square between the unconventional Aquarius Moon and the sometimes stick-in-the-mud Taurus Sun  7:14AM ET. A focus on values and what you really stand for, perhaps. This square is also known as the Third Quarter Moon, suggesting another flash of recognition or challenge to the New Moon agenda that was set on April 10th, which was discussed here and here. No exact aspects for the rest of the day, save for a buoyant trine to the Moon from jolly Jupiter at 5:05PM, which is lovely for your happy hour plans this evening. In effect, though not exact until just after midnight on Saturday, is a communicative connection between mental Mercury and nebulous Neptune, suggesting a need for those rose-colored glasses once again. Issues of faith, idealism and other forms of magical thinking crop up, as well as inspiration for artists, healers and storytellers (including con artists).  Get it off your desk before the Moon goes void at 12:24AM Friday, not to enter Pisces until 2:25PM ET (on Friday).

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 5/1/2013: Light the Beltane Fires

No break in the action today. The enterprising Capricorn Moon goes void for all of thirteen minutes at 10:07AM ET, on a tense challenge to mental Mercury, suggesting the potential for a brief spat.  That should calm down before noon, with 1) the Moon’s ingress into detached, humanitarian Aquarius and 2) Mercury’s ingress into earthy Taurus, which slows down the impulsive rush-to-judgement thrust brought to you by the past few weeks of Mercury in Aries. Adding depth, potency and the discovery of resources you did not know you had is Pluto’s easy connection to the Sun at 1:33PM ET. It’s a great day for connecting the dots and mingling with your mover and shaker friends, though we may encounter a limitation of some kind when stern Saturn challenges efforts to be socially significant at 11:51PM ET.

So much in the news continuing yesterday’s stubborn opposition between Mars in Taurus and you-better-believe-we-are-going-there Saturn in Scorpio. The morning-after pill is now available without a prescription to girls and women aged 15 and older, just in time for a particularly stubborn and nasty “sex superbug” to make headlines, a bill allowing limited abortion rights is introduced in Ireland and Larry Flynt endorses former South Carolina governor Mark Sanford’s bid for Congress, hailing him as a “great sex pioneer”.

In other news, an ongoing hunger strike — 100 of 166 prisoners held at Gitmo are participating in this militant protest —  has finally drawn the attention of President Obama, who reaffirmed his intention yesterday to close controversial prison. I am overwhelmed by the literal sludge that I’m seeing in the headlines and find my thoughts going across the Pond, where fires were lit in celebration of Beltane. And if it seems as if I’m abruptly ending this forecast because the dynamic energy of this day demands I get moving, it’s a perfect reflection of planetary patterns. Don’t miss a minute of the creative potential this day holds.

Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 4/30/2013: Pushing the Boundaries

The only aspect today’s earthy, pro-active Capricorn Moon faces during business hours is a supportive connection to a well-placed Venus (women, social expression, money, art) at 4:05PM ET. Well, that is pleasant for social, material and sensual indulgences of a solid, status-conscious kind. Use it! Even more dynamic and resourceful is another supportive connection between the earthy Taurus Sun and potent Pluto, also in Capricorn (exact Wednesday), suggesting an easy consolidation or transformation of power, not unlike the story of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands gracefully abdicating the throne and handing the royal sceptre to her son, Prince Willem Alexander. What could possibly disrupt or frustrate your efforts to make things happen today?

How about a potentially militant opposition (exact Wednesday) between aggressive Mars in stubborn Taurus and karma cop Saturn in equally stubborn Scorpio? On the one hand, Mars-Saturn aspects can be awesome tools for those needing discipline, focus and military precision – and this is what you should be striving for. On the other hand, when hotheaded Mars collides with stern Saturn, the results can be chilly, even coldly calculating. And didn’t we just have another potential for karmic retribution, a reach for ambition or cold-hearted cuts when Saturn opposed the Sun on Sunday? Yes, we did…and for those of you born with a planet or angle between 6 and 8 degrees of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius or around the 30th of April, July, October and January, I can appreciate the sense of urgency you may be feeling in the midst of your current personal reality check right now.

Planetary patterns suggest rewards can come from persistent, patient and exceptionally resourceful in efforts this week. Leave no stone unturned. The only Moon void of significance is on Friday, between 12:24AM ET and 2:25pm ET. That’s when we’ll have a natural time out to chill. Otherwise, keep on truckin’.

So much news to report, much of it reflecting the nitty-gritty reality of Saturn in Scorpio  pulling focus, along with the never-ending disruption of the Uranus-Pluto square, which makes its third of seven hits on May 20th. What is rotten in Denmark today? We’d expect corruption to be exposed in nether regions of government, politics and some even more personal arenas, and Matt Taibbi’s latest Rolling Stone article does not disappoint. It is called “Everything is Rigged: The Biggest Price-Fixing Scandal Ever”.  Meanwhile, pundits continue to weigh in on the fantasy-destroying research of a 28 year grad student who discovered that data used to justify so-called “austerity” measures in Europe and the US was, frankly, a mess. Here’s Stephen Colbert interviewing said grad student. (thanks to the reader who sent that in). In other news, the collapse of a textile factory in Bangladesh continues to make headlines. In case you hadn’t heard, almost 400 workers were killed and the owner of the factory, which reportedly makes clothes for JC Penney, Bennetton and other Western retailers, was arrested. Thank you, Saturn in Scorpio, for revealing the true cost of “cheap”.

Nether regions were the subject of two provocative and thorough pieces about womens’ reproductive health. First, a must-read article about breast cancer; specifically the “feel-good” war against it. How many lives are really being saved and at whose expense (and profit)? And what about pelvic exams? Are they really effective? There is no topic too personal or gory for Saturn in Scorpio. Rape? Abortion? All continue to make headlines, and it is not a pretty picture. For temporary relief from the relentless intensity, may I suggest an adorable duckling chasing a cat (who just happens to be wearing a shark costume whilst riding a Roomba). With Saturn in Scorpio, of course it would be a shark — a creature that triggers one of our primal fears. Did someone say fear? Here’s an article about that, too — and how it relates to climate change….

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 4/29/2013: No Excuses

Today’s marching orders are simple. As of 8:21AM ET, the Moon enters proactive, practical Capricorn. Do your best to make things happen, and if all else fails, do your best. This enterprising vibe carries us through the end of April. How time flies…

Astro-logical Forecast for Saturday & Sunday 4/27-28/2013: What’s Eating You?

Oh, the relief of today’s Moon in fiery Sagittarius — as of 7:32AM ET — after two days of intensity in Scorpio. Randy and rowdy, Moon in Sag is up for a gamble or a gambol — whatever broadens horizons and expands minds. A need for respect for its righteous opinions is key to keeping a Sagittarius Moon content. Ramble in the park, explore a new neighborhood, read a provocative book — and tell the world what you think — sounds like a good day to me. The only exact aspect today is a square to the Moon from nebulous Neptune at 3:32PM ET, suggesting a need for a rose-colored vision to stimulate conversation. Or maybe today’s debates and headlines will have a special emphasis on idealism, sacrifice, spirituality, arts, drugs and other escapes.

The Sag Moon carries us through Sunday and it is mostly exuberant, with one caveat: a potentially heavy opposition between the comfort-seeking Taurus Sun and Saturn, the stern karma cop, in demanding Scorpio, exact at 8 degrees. You’ll feel the pressure to streamline and focus more than most if you were born around the 28th of April, July, October or January — and this is actually the second hit of a serious cycle of restructuring and/or ambition challenged that started in December of 2012. The third hit happens in September.

You are also feeling the pinch if you have a planet or angle around 6-10 degrees of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius, and perhaps you would like to talk about it. Yea verily, nearly all of my clients in the past few months have had these degrees prominent in their horoscopes. With all Saturn transits, there is an urgency about a need to be more firmly established, which often requires letting go of many people and pursuits that no longer serve. There is also no escape.

In the news, I’ve been seeing plenty of stories about Taurus and Scorpio concerns. For Taurus, have you noticed how much has been written about food, lack of food, breakthroughs on how we process food and necessary changes in our diet? Part of these revelations I’d say are a reflection of the Uranus-Pluto square, as it approaches its third (of seven) exact hits on May 20th. You may recall that a revolution in diet and farming began in the mid-60s (think: organic farming, etc.) when Uranus and Pluto were conjunct; the square suggests a serious next step forward. Here’s a sampling of intriguing headlines: earlier this week I posted a piece about foods that cause inflammation & the relationship between bacteria and a healthy gut; now we see eggs being called out as a possible cause, too. Here’s an interesting bit about farmers, resources, discrimination (and possible fraud). Here’s a follow-up on that massive fatal explosion at a Texas fertilizer plant that occurred within minutes of the volatile Sun-Mars conjunction in Aries on April 17th in which a probable cause of the explosion should surprise no one.

Plenty more to talk about, but I have horoscopes to prepare. Have a wonderful weekend and be advised that there is no Moon void to detour your efforts on Monday (at least not in the US) — so be prepared to hit the ground running.
