“I can't thank you enough for the incredible adventure in astrology. You have that rare gift that certainly all who call themselves astrologers don't possess... you're the real deal!! It seriously blew me away that you were able to not only nail so much from my past (exact times/years certain events took place, along with situations with family, relationships and beyond) but you've already helped with my present! The answers you gave to the specific questions I asked pertaining to important career-related happenings this week have already proven true. I will look forward to an update in a year or so.”

Monday 12/4/2017: Sneak Peek at the Week: Mercury Retrograde Survival Guide; Jupiter Trine Neptune in the News

Up and at ’em, with the gentle reminder that Mercury is retrograde. Here is the Survival Guide, if you need a refresher:

Even if you know nothing else about astrology, you may have heard this term before. Often it’s accompanied by curses and groans, and that’s a shame. Yes, all of the flights on American Airlines might be grounded because of a computer glitch. Or the entire country of Finland might be offline because there’s a transportation strike (actual Mercury Rx events). But there’s much good that can be accomplished when the Messenger Planet appears to be retracing its steps.

Mercury—which in the language of astrology refers to mindset, travel and communication—will appear to move backward through the sky until December 22nd. It’s not really moving backward, but that is how it looks from our perspective here on Spaceship Earth. Mercury goes retrograde 3-4 times each year, for a period of 22 days.

Contrary to popular belief, Mercury retrogrades are no reason to freak out. Mercury retrograde gets a bad rap because we are geared, in this crazy modern age, to always be thinking, doing, moving FORWARD. You know what that gets you? BURN OUT. We need our down times, and Mercury retrograde is a perfect time to give our minds a rest. Why else would your computer, phone and/or car choose THIS time to malfunction? Because you are supposed to be slowing down. And as you slow down, it is vitally important that you FOCUS.

When Mercury is retrograde, be prepared for travel delays, scheduling screw-ups, mechanical breakdowns, computer crashes, having to repeat what you’ve just said, misunderstandings, the past coming back for a second look, surprise reunions and having to repeat what you just said. Use your FOCUS and double check important details, like whether the restaurant you’ve chosen for a meet-up is still in business. Or whether it is booked for a commercial shoot or a private party — all of which has happened to me during Mercury retrogrades.

If you are looking for a job, Mercury retrogrades are a perfect time to reach out to people from your past. Mine your address book and trust that your contacts will be happy to hear from you. However, do not be frustrated if your target is away on vacation or keeps rescheduling meetings. Also, triple check your emails and resumes before you hit “send,” as there is a higher probability of typos and other sloppy snafus.

In your business, you’ll need to make sure all communications have been received and are clearly understood. Be mindful of the higher potential for communications equipment to go on the fritz. MAKE SURE YOUR FILES ARE BACKED UP. Also be aware of a higher than average probability for delays in shipping and travel arrangements. For this you will need an extra dose of patience.

You may also find it profitable to REview a project from the past. Maybe you shelved it then, but now is the time to REconsider. However, be advised that a spontaneously, “out-of-the-blue” idea for advancement may not be so sound when Mercury turns direct. This is why the conventional wisdom advises against finalizing and/or signing contracts on deals during Mercury retrograde. An exception might be supported if you are REnegotiating or RElocating. If you absolutely must close a deal, triple check everything. The key is not to RUSH.

This is a good time to schedule a corporate REtreat. Any activity that affords the opportunity to REview past performance is encouraged. REsearch on a new strategy is also favored.

Mercury retrogrades are not favored for launching a new website or a new communications systems. There is a higher than average probability of technical glitches and confusion.

In general, adopt a playful attitude of flexibility to whatever twists you encounter. Avoid making major purchases (especially electronic ones). Don’t believe everything you hear or read in the papers. Rumors have a higher probability of spreading during Mercury retrogrades. Avoid losing patience — that’s a big one.

When in doubt, be silent!

Do plan on RElaxing, REviewing, REsearching, REorganizing, REgenerating, REconnecting and REcreating….and REviewing your life with your astrologer.

This Mercury retrograde happens at 29 degrees of Sagittarius, suggesting that whatever is up for REview and RElaxation likely involves an expansive quest for vision and truth, as old opinions and beliefs are RE-evaluated. Watch areas involving the judiciary, sports, media, religion and foreign affairs. If you have a planet or angle around 29 degrees of Gemini, Pisces, Sagittarius and especially Virgo, you are more personally affected by this particular Mercury retrograde. FUN FACT:  this month’s retrograde at 29 Sagittarius is likely to recall things that were hot during the Mercury Rx that began on August 30, 2016 — at 29 degrees of Virgo. Here’s a post from mid-September 2016 with a few examples.

Back to today and the rest of the week. The information junkie Gemini Moon is opposed by Saturn and Mercury at 12:46 PM ET and 2:13 PM ET. Someone throws a wet blanket on someone’s parade, in an effort to take control. And then starts an argument about it. Chill during the brief Moon void…and shift your focus to matters of emotional/home/homeland security at 3:37 PM ET, when the Moon enters nurturing Cancer.

Moon makes its weekly clash with Pluto and Uranus at 8:07 PM ET TUESDAY and 7:17 AM ET WEDNESDAY. Note that time frame as a potential for catharsis, power play and/or upsets. Other Moon voids are Wednesday 12:56 PM ET – 3:37 PM ET; FRIDAY 5:40 PM ET – 6:09 PM ET — you won’t even notice that one.

Wednesday is busy, as in heavy, provocative and action-packed. First, Mercury Rx re-connects with reality king Saturn. When it did that at the start of last week, Matt Lauer was pink-slipped. The nurturing Cancer Moon will be challenged by Uranus and Mars before lunch ET. Mercury Rx in sloppy Sag with harmonize with Mars in Libra, seeking fairness and balance; Mars will harmonize with Saturn at 4:21 PM ET, seeking an action plan that is pleasing, but still maintains control. Perhaps Congress will agree on a funding plan to avert a government shutdown on December 8th.

As we get closer to the weekend, Wednesday’s reality check fades in favor of the high-flying aesthetic dream suggested by SUNDAY’s exact patterns: a harmony between Mercury and rebel Uranus; a tension between Venus (women, money, art, social expression) and Neptune. Sounds like bitcoin to me. Meanwhile, Mars leaves Libra for Scorpio on SATURDAY. More on that in the next forecast.

And now, the news.

Jupiter expands. Neptune refers to drugs, healing, TV and film, music, refugees/migrants and scandal. It also dissolves boundaries and creates fog. Here are the headlines:

Meanwhile, Saturn is barreling theough the last few degrees of Sagittarius, giving it prominence. In Sunday’s NYT magazine, Saturn was the subject of its Letter of Recommendation — with an entire paragraph about the wisdom of being mindful of first, second and third Saturn returns. Pigs have flown again!!

Elsewhere, on SNL, I saw a few topsies saucily asserting themselves (reflecting the potential of the Sabian Symbols for the Sunday’s Full Moon). Here’s “Welcome to Hell” — a music video awash in rose-colored Sun-square-Neptune pixie-dust — perfectly in sync with planetary patterns.

Today the Supreme Court will hear the case of the Colorado baker who said he was exercising his right to free speech and religious liberty when he refused to bake a cake for the wedding of two men. Well, that’s an apt case for Saturn (control) and Mercury (communication) at the end of Sagittarius (religion, judiciary, opinion). I found this intriguing quote from Justice Antonin Scalia in WaPo, suggesting that this is going to be an opinion about freedom of speech:

In a 1990 case, the justices said two Oregon men were not protected from being fired from their jobs as drug counselors because they had used an illegal drug, peyote, as part of their Native American religious ceremonies. The opinion by Justice Antonin Scalia in Employment Division v. Smith said a person may not use religious motivation as a reason not to obey a law generally applicable to the public and passed without animus to a specific religion. To find otherwise, Scalia wrote, would invite “a system in which each conscience is a law unto itself.”

Finally, as you may have heard, Senate Republicans passed their sloppy 500-page tax bill that no one had time to read, let alone have a committee hearing about. Amazing, given that there were over 30 hearings on Benghazi….none so far on the four soldiers killed in Niger…but…hey…priorities. The bill passed at 1:51 AM ET — during a Moon void (much ado about nothing?), a Mercury in sloppy Sagittarius stationary retrograde (subject to review) and a Neptune-Sun square (we’re so confused!). People were, in fact, so confused that they forgot that this bill is not law! Now the sloppy Senate bill needs to be reconciled with the sloppy House bill — and then and only then — and only if P45 decides to sign it — will whatever ends up in it, end up destroying the country.

Here’s the chart for the Senate tax bill — with the comfort and security-seeking Taurus Moon locked away  in the 8th House,  not able to do anything of consequence, as it is void. The Moon refers to the people. The 8th House is debt and taxes. Coincidence or conspiracy?

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday-Sunday 7/20-26/2015: Sneak Peek at the Week, Part 1

Good Morning!

Moon is in Virgo today, where it has been since  8:47PM ET on Saturday.  Use its organizing and discerning energy to put things right in your world today. Your efforts can be supported by an easy flow of communication and action, as the Moon makes contact with Mars (action) and Mercury (mindset) at 7:3oAM ET and 11:02PM ET, respectively. Refine, revise, reform….with an eye towards perfection and service.

Construction, stabilization and productive use of time is supported by two other easy flows among Sun and Mercury in emotional security-conscious Cancer and Saturn in reality check Scorpio. Those aspects are exact tomorrow at 7:08AM ET (Sun-Saturn), and Wednesday at 1:51PM ET (Mercury-Saturn). Use these building blocks well!

The smooth flow of planetary patterns at the start of this week give way to more excitement towards the end. After a brief Moon void on Wednesday (6:06AM ET – 9:23AM ET), Moon enters Libra and attempts to find balance, social graces and fairness in relationship — at least in theory. Note the potential for an emotional catharses or  power play around 1:36PM ET when the Moon is challenged by ruthless Pluto. Late Wednesday night, the Sun leaves Cancer for drama queen Leo. Mercury follows suit on Thursday (8:15AM ET) and then meets up with the Sun (3:24PM ET). This suggests a certain stubborn and fiery idealism in thought and communication.

Early Thursday the peace-seeking Libra Moon is further rattled by conflict and upsets from Mars and Uranus (12:04AM ET and 3:02AM ET) — exciting, if you’re working the night shift. Patterns are relatively supportive for the rest of the day on Thursday, though be advised that the Moon will be void between 2:12PM ET and 10:07PM ET. That’s a good time to focus on routine matters and roll with any twists that may crop up in your efforts to move forward in a straight line.  Crises during voids tend to be much ado about nothing.

If you work in a mercurial business such as the media, where you have daily deadlines, you’re more likely to notice these “road to nowhere” crises. When I was working onsite in TV news, I can’t tell you how many times a “hair on fire” project would show up during a void, and somehow fizzle out after the void was over — but not before a number of tech snafus and other flaky events that could have raised my stress levels if I were less informed. So CHILL if this happens to you.

Friday’s fun includes a tense and stubborn First Quarter Moon at 12:04AM ET, as the Moon, now in control and depth-seeking Scorpio, is challenged by the regal Leo Sun. Whatever agenda you set on last week’s New Moon may now be adjusted. A dreamy flow between Neptune and the Moon at 4:41PM ET aids your need for a weekend escape.

Humming in the background on Friday are three significant patterns exact on Saturday and Sunday. First, the other shoe of last Wednesday’s face-off between Mars and Pluto drops at 5:42AM ET. That would be rebel Uranus (aviation, seismic activity, accidents, sudden outbursts, technical breakthroughs, astrology) in a hard aspect to Mars (action & assertion, for better or worse).  Second, Uranus pulls focus again on Sunday at 6:38AM ET when it turns retrograde at 20 degrees of Aries.  It  will back up to 16 degrees before turning direct again on December 26th.

When a planet is retrograde, the energy it represents is best expressed by turning inward, instead of outward. When direct, Uranus tends to rebel against the status quo set by others. When retrograde, Uranus needs to set itself free from limits that are self-imposed. So if you have a planet between 16 and 20 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn…or if you were born around the 10th of April, July, October or January, you can expect an intense second hit of issues you’ve recently experienced (i.e., since April),  involving freedom, independence, being yourself without compromise, sudden revelations and upsets of the status quo.  Exhibit A: Bill Cosby, whose status has definitely been disrupted, as predicted in this forecast last year — with more to come all this year and into 2018 (because after Uranus is done with Mr. Cosby’s Cancer Sun and Aries Ascendant, Pluto will take over).

The Sabian Symbol for this year’s Uranus retrograde is this: “a pugilist entering the ring”. Sabian Symbol guru Blain Bovee suggests we apply this symbol to “the focused contest between social organization and individuality; the natural inclination to define one’s space; finding the range of one’s power, the impact of one’s punch”.  What are we fighting for? Are we championing a noble cause or are we just in it for ego recognition, born of insecurity? Will we inspire the world with our battle cry or will we just throw a temper tantrum and never mind the damaging consequences of our actions? Aries can go either way — big baby or warrior-hero — what will it be?

Third, Venus — which refers to women, aesthetics, social expression and values/worth — also turns retrograde. That happens at 5:29AM ET at O degrees of Virgo. In Leo, Venus needs a dramatic, playful, heart-centered expression of affection and values. In Virgo, such expression is likely to be more analytical and refined in its quest for perfection. It can also be priggish and hypercritical.  Venus has been in Virgo since 6:38PM ET on Saturday (last weekend), so perhaps you’ve already noticed the shift.

Tomorrow I’ll post some helpful guidelines for handling this year’s Venus retrograde. I’ll also recap the news — always amazing to see the synchronicity between planetary patterns and the headlines. Isn’t it fun to have a sense of what’s going to happen before it makes news? I’m only planning to post two forecasts this week — and I’ll tell you more about that tomorrow.

Meanwhile, why not find out more about what these planetary patterns mean to you? Consider that an invitation to schedule a personal consultation. Find out why you are the way you are, what you need in order to feel fulfilled, and what opportunities you can create for yourself now and in the near future. Astrology is amazing.

Thank you for reading this forecast.
