"The reading was a partnership between the two of us; she did not simply recite planetary signs and meanings, but had a conversation with me, continually asking what I made of what she saw, and what I thought I could do to change the things I want to change.

When the names of other people in my life came up, she quickly looked up their charts on her computer and commented on their roles in my life -- painting a fuller picture of where I was, where I wanted to go, and how I could get there.

What was impressive was that Elisabeth took all the planets, people, and situations that made up my life and created a context for them all that was positive, hopeful, and exciting!

She has a lovely personality, a sharp wit, and a gift for astrological interpretation."

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 4/10/15 & The Weekend: Lincoln Chafee & Other Disruptors of the Status Quo

Arise, go forth and get down to business, driven by the Moon in enterprising Capricorn as of 8:47AM ET. There’s a heady idealism in mindset and communication, suggested by a meet-up between Mercury and the Sun in Aries which occurred just after midnight. This could be highly persuasive (Aries is indomitable), even if it does require a revision down the road (Mercury, when so close to the Sun, can be blinded by the light — unable to receive input from any other Source). Classical astrologers define planets conjunct the Sun as combust.

There’s no Moon void on Saturday to dissuade you from accomplishing your weekend chores. Have at it, being mindful of the potential for upsets and power plays in the hours between 11AM and 3PM ET, as the Moon makes contact with Uranus and Pluto.  Just before midnight ET on Saturday we’ll have the 3rd Quarter Moon, presenting another bit of light regarding the agenda you set on the New Moon a few weeks ago.

On Saturday we’ll also see Venus (arts, women, social expression, values and money) leave Taurus for Gemini at 11:29AM ET. In Gemini, Venus can be oh-so-charming, seeking social expression by being informed, intense and entertaining — and able to love both sides of the same coin — or several coins at once. Is that fickle?

Sunday morning is lovely for sleeping in, as the Moon will be void between 4:15AM and 1:44PM ET. There’s pixie dust in the air, helpful for artistry and healing, suggested by a cooperative connection between Mars and Neptune. This patterns also supports fantasy and showbiz types, including those who might want to sell you a bill of goods. Don’t buy it during the Moon void.

After the void, the Moon enters Aquarius, favoring gatherings of friends, especially with such an easy connection to the aforementioned chatty Venus in Gemini at 4:08PM ET. The menu might be quite exotic, as well as your guests.

No sleeping in on Monday.

And now, the news.

Surprise, surprise — there may be a new presidential candidate in town, as the NYT reports that Lincoln Chafee, the former Republican senator from Rhode Island, who then was elected governor as an Independent, is exploring a run — as a Democrat. Mr. Chafee is a pioneering Aries with Moon in Leo — birth time unknown, though I do have a few ideas about why we are seeing this expansive/ambitious reach now.

What we can see clearly in his horoscope is unconventional Uranus running wild (Barack Obama has this pattern, too). No wonder he defies description — and the status quo. As a US Senator, he voted against invading Iraq. This need to buck the trend is being supercharged by Uranus, Pluto and last Saturday’s Full Moon/Eclipse. Assertive Mars is also active now, by transit and by solar arc — there’s the need for action now.

Elsewhere, more startling revelations in communication from Alex Millard, a woman who posed as a man on Twitter for just one week and found herself being retweeted and favorited for what she had to say, instead of being the recipient of rape threats and insults about her weight. Her opinions were even picked up by a media outlet, too — imagine that. Which reminds of comedian Hannibal Buress — a person with a Y chromosome. Funny how only after he called out the numerous rape allegations against Bill Cosby did people start taking seriously what dozens of women had said before. Ohhhhh if only that were funny.

Anyhoo…

In other news of breakouts and triumphs for equality no matter how unconventional you might be (Sun conjunct Mercury-Uranus in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn, thanks very much), score one for Tamara Lusardi, a transgendered woman who just won a discrimination suit against her employer, the US military. As I’ve opined before, these suits reflect the opportunity to take the seeds of civil rights planted during the Uranus-Pluto conjunction of the mid-60s to the next level. They also stretch and challenge whatever notions we may have about gender and identity, arguing for a paradigm shift that overturns the status quo…

Which reminds me of a conversation I had recently with a woman well-versed in Tarot who wanted to better understand the potential of Uranus square Pluto. Here’s what I showed her:

the tower

…and here’s what Tarot sage Beth Owlsdaughter has to say about this powerful card (I can’t wait for her to finish her book).

Have a wonderful weekend….and meanwhile, if you’re passionate about understanding why you are the way you are…what you need in order to live your life to your fullest potential…how you can better understand the significant others in your life…what opportunities are likely to present themselves this year…or even how you can use astrology to better manage your co-workers at the office, here’s how you can contact me to schedule a consultation.

Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 6/17/2014: Blinded By the Light

…still a noticeable uptick in the sirens wailing through the neighborhood…who needs an alarm clock anymore?

I’ve got last weekend’s volatile/forceful Mars-Pluto square on my mind this morning. If you recall this was the third and last challenge between these two planets since Mars has been in Libra for what now seems like forever. The first challenge was at the end of the December; the second was during April’s Cardinal Grand Cross, in which the reality of climate change reached a tipping point. The third in a series of planetary patterns drives the point home, much as the third act of a play. And there was President Obama delivering a commencement address in which climate change deniers were openly mocked. What a difference a year makes. Not that this will stop said climate change deniers from filing lawsuits that attempt to block sustainable energy objectives, said one of the deniers, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal (at a press conference with three other state governor-deniers).

Which brings me to a discussion of idealism, suggested by mental Mercury hooking up with the Sun on Thursday — in Gemini. Traditional astrologers use the term “combust” to describe a planet that is so close to the Sun (ego drive) that it blinded by (the ego’s) light. With Mercury, which refers to how we need to think, there’s a challenge seeing the forest for the trees. Which can be expressed as idealism.

So naturally I had to look up Bobby Jindal’s horoscope for suggestions of an idealistic mindset, and immediately noticed Mercury and Venus (social expression) opposed by Jupiter and Neptune. Jupiter-Neptune aspects suggest a need for spirituality and/or faith, and this would color his mindset and social expression in rose — big time. But wait – there’s more: stern Saturn is also hooked up with Venus, suggesting a reserved, chilly and/or controlled (controlling?) influence in matters relating to women, art and money. Color that black! There’s a contradiction here — so the question is, how might this be expressed by the person bringing the horoscope to life?

Currently Jindal’s natal Mercury at 6 Gemini is being challenged by nebulous Neptune (now retrograde at 7 Pisces).  He’s been wearing a super-deluxe pair of rose-colored glasses for months, and will continue to do so into 2015. On the plus side, Neptune-Mercury transits suggest vision, spirituality and creativity; on the down side, they suggest fantasy and delusion. Bobby Jindal also made headlines on Thursday when he signed two bills restricting information and access to reproductive health care  in a church, because that’s where the Founding Fathers intended for legislative bills to be signed. The bill restricting information reads: “no individual or organization that performs elective abortion or its affiliates may provide instruction or materials in public elementary and secondary schools or in charter schools that receive state funding.” In other words, no free speech for certain people, despite the First Amendment. A few days later, Jindal gave a speech in Ohio and said, “I’m here to tell you one of the most important fights we have is to stand up for our First Amendment religious liberty rights.”

So that’s an example of how contradictory patterns in a horoscope may be expressed…and in this case, under the influence of a potentially bewildering Neptune period of influence.

What I really meant to share today was a bit about Neptune retrograde — which happened last week — and which appears to have turned up in Beth Owlsdaughter’s always-engaging Tarot Card of the Week. Because over the weekend I found myself turning inward for inspiration and guidance, which is what is suggested during Neptune — and Mercury — retrogrades. I was drawn to RE-read Dr. Eben Alexander’s marvelous book, Proof Of Heaven — because I was tired of reading all the headlines about wars, violence and bickering about freedom, climate change and so forth. I wrote about Proof of Heaven last year — oddly enough, in a post that also mentions Beth Owlsdaughter. Here’s an excerpt; the whole post is worth re-reading, if I do say so myself:

Astrology can identify the potential for great good or evil suggested by a planetary pattern. We can surmise reasons why someone with a disconnected consciousness might choose evil over good. What astrology doesn’t do is answer the bewildering question of WHY anyone who allegedly has a soul and consciousness, as all humans presumably do, has the option of inflicting such damage and pain.  Why is there evil in the world?

As it turns out, over the weekend I happened to read Proof of Heaven by Dr. Eben Alexander. Dr. Alexander was in a coma for seven days and had an amazing out-of-body experience that transformed his life — and just might transform yours, should you read the book.  And in the book the question of why there is evil in the world was addressed. And the answer was something like this.  Evil exists in places where beings with souls and consciousness are learning the lessons of free will. Earth is one such place. If evil were not an option, we would not be able to make choices and thus learn the lessons required in the laboratory called Planet Earth. There is relatively little evil in the Universe compared to the amount of good, and this is very, very good. And there is probably far more good on this planet than evil — though there have been times where one wonders

What I found especially helpful reading this book for the second time was the reminder that this life we experience on Earth is maya — illusion (see the Tarot Card of the Week for more).  Things are not as they seem to be…and in reality, everything is much better than we think. So while we’re living this illusion, we are well-advised to make the best of it. Don’t worry, be happy, etc. Seriously.

I also was delighted to re-read this quote, attributed to Isaac Singer:

We must believe in free will. We have no choice.

Dr. Alexander has a new book coming out this fall…

Thank you for reading — and sharing — this forecast.

Astro-logical Forecast for Tueday 4/16/2013: Free Will & Consciousness

As of 10:49PM ET last night, Moon entered the watery depths of Cancer, a sign known for its emotional sensitivity,  nurturing ability, and its need to establish a solid family/homeland foundation. It is the power of Mom and apple pie, and our collective soul could use a dose of it.

A dreamy connection between Moon and empathic Neptune at 8:18AM ET sets the tone for much of the business day in time zones Eastern thru Pacific, softening the sharp edges of so many other planets — Sun, Mercury, Mars and Uranus — in fiery Aries. It suggests a need for inspiration and intuitive action, coupled with the drive and passion that facilitates success. Temper your initiatives with sensitivity and you can accomplishment much today.

As the day progresses, the Cancer Moon is given further gravitas by a strong connection to steady, sobering Saturn at 5:14PM ET, which is about when we may experience a jolt, revelation , power play and/or catharsis, as the sensitive Moon is challenged by rebel Uranus at 6:12PM ET and then by ruthless Pluto at 10:18PM ET (we just had a 7.8 quake in Iran). Be vigilant and be prepared (which just happens to be in synch with the advice of Beth Owlsdaughter’s wonderful Tarot Card of the Week). These lunar challenges will be happening as the Sun in warrior-hero Aries and Mars (the warrior planet which rules Aries), approach an exact conjunction Wednesday at 8:20PM ET, as noted in previous forecasts. The potential manifestations of this power focus of self-centered will and action are, at its best, fearless, inspiring feats of heroism; bold actions that take us into new frontiers. At its worst, Sun-Mars in Aries can be dangerously self-absorbed, angry, destructive and yes, explosive — especially when the disruptive Uranus-Pluto square is added to the mix.

If you recall the forecast for the last week’s New Moon in Aries, you will remember the potential for destructive action was discussed, as — for example —  Kim Jong-un was rattling sabers and raising concerns. But two explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon? Utterly bewildering, which is exactly what we see in the horoscope for the first explosion at 2:50PM ET in Boston: foggy, bewildering Neptune on an angle, i.e., the cusp of the 7th house, which represents the public. And the public is bewildered. Who could do such a thing? (Neptune suggests a fanatic). In the online  astrology forums, astrologers are analyzing charts, looking for patterns that reflect — and would portend the potential for this awful reality. Like, how interesting it is to see 2 degrees of Aries on the Ascendant for last week’s New Moon chart calculated for Boston. And that yesterday, mental Mercury was at 2 degrees of Aries, triggering the New Moon chart and suggesting an aggressive idea might gain prominence. And that in the chart for the first explosion we see mental Mercury in the house associated with death, approaching a conjunction with rebel Uranus (surprising, explosive). And that Eris, a cosmic body specifically referring to war, is at zero degrees of Aries — the Aries Point — conjunct mental Mercury!

There are plenty of other patterns suggesting the potential for explosive action (including a challenging square in the horoscope of the US from transiting Mars to Pluto)  — that could be used for a horrible purpose — or a higher, heroic one. It is fascinating to see a meme circulating on Facebook last night, featuring a quote by Fred Rogers, who had a TV show that was comforting and beloved by children everywhere (Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood): “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” And indeed, there were plenty of helping heroes in yesterday’s chaos.

There is relatively little evil in the Universe compared to the amount of good, and this is very, very good. And there is probably far more good on this planet than evil — though there have been times where one wonders…

Use the sensitive, dynamic, proactive energy suggested by today’s planetary patterns to go out and do good things today. Exercise your free will to be a hero, the highest form of Aries — as opposed to a destructive jerk , which is the alternative. The choice is yours.

And when in doubt, count your blessings — always empowering.

Peace out.

Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 9/4/2012: Return to Earth

For those who are not self-employed, your holiday weekend is over. Back to work — but take your time easing into it, as the impulsive Aries Moon will be void from 7:06AM until 11:41AM ET, when it enters good ol’ earthy Taurus. See if you notice any twists in your efforts to move in a straight line this morning.

Known for being both  patient and stubborn, Taurus is concerned with tactile sensual things and preserving material security. It has a well-deserved reputation for its resistance to change. Isn’t it interesting that Moon in Taurus will carry us through all three days of the Democratic National Convention, where we are sure to hear many speeches made for why we should not make major changes now (at least in the White House),  but at the same time work toward making things “the way they should be”? We will also likely hear many reasons why we should be grateful for what we already have — and how we can hang on to it. And they are right: we should be grateful for what we have, no matter how small it may seem.  Any statement of gratitude is empowering, as it instantly makes us feel like a “have” instead of a “have-not”. Gratitude is also one of the more effective remedies for depression. As is singing — another favorite Taurus activity, believe or not. Try it, you’ll like it!

Tremendous resources are available to you all week in your efforts to turn ideas into purposeful, powerful action, presented persuasively. That’s suggested by a favorable alignment among Mercury (mind), Mars (action) and Pluto (transformation and resources). Don’t waste this opportunity. Seize the day!  I promise by the end of the week, your spirits will be soaring higher than they may be now. Yesterday’s serious square between strict Saturn (authority, structure) and Venus (women, money) was a downer for many. But by Friday — huzzah! Venus will be in playful Leo and jolly Jupiter will be encouraging good vibrations everywhere.

Your Moon voids for the week, in addition to today: Wednesday 2:54PM ET…until 12:10AM FRIDAY. Plan accordingly.

In other news, last week I received a lovely email from a reader (no pun intended, as you will see),  marveling at the synchronicity of planetary patterns with the Tarot cards she pulls for insights into the week ahead. Last week it was all about nebulous Neptune — from the sublime to the ridiculous. The card she pulled for last week was The Moon. This week planetary patterns are much more down to earth, and the card she pulled was the Page of Pentacles — the suit that corresponds to the Earth element in astrology. Coincidence or conspiracy? Hardly a conspiracy; truth is expressed in all symbolic languages, which is what Tarot and astrology are: languages.  Please “emeet” Tarot card reader Beth Owl’s Daughter and learn more about the Page of Pentacles on her fascinating and practical blog. You can read about The Moon there, too.
