Monday 4/10/2017: Sneak Peek at the Week; Mercury Retrograde Survival Guide; Full Moon Alert; News, News & More News

…and we’re off to the races again…but this week, slooooooow down! As you know, Mercury turn retrograde at  7:15 PM ET on Sunday, backtracking through early Taurus and late Aries.  There are plenty of great things you can accomplish during a Mercury retrograde, like REview and REvise your website or your business plan…or REconnect with people you haven’t seen in years. Here’s your strategy for the next few weeks:

Even if you know nothing else about astrology, you may have heard the term “Mercury retrograde” before. Often it’s accompanied by curses and groans, and that’s a shame. Yes, all of the flights on American Airlines might be grounded because of a computer glitch. Or the entire country of Finland might be offline because there’s a transportation strike. Or some trickster might set off all the tornado warning alarms in Dallas — that actually happened yesterday. But there’s much good that can be accomplished when the Messenger Planet appears to be retracing its steps.

Mercury—which in the language of astrology refers to mindset, travel and communication—will appear to move backward through the sky until May 3rd. It’s not really moving backward, but that is how it looks from our perspective here on Spaceship Earth. Mercury goes retrograde 3-4 times each year, for a period of 22 days.

Contrary to popular belief, Mercury retrogrades are no reason to freak out. Mercury retrograde gets a bad rap because we are geared, in this crazy modern age, to always be thinking, doing, moving FORWARD. You know what that gets you? BURN OUT. We need our down times, and Mercury retrograde is a perfect time to give our minds a rest. Why else would your computer, phone and/or car choose THIS time to malfunction? Because you are supposed to be slowing down. And as you slow down, it is vitally important that you FOCUS.

When Mercury is retrograde, be prepared for travel delays, scheduling screw-ups, mechanical breakdowns, computer crashes, having to repeat what you’ve just said, misunderstandings, the past coming back for a second look, surprise reunions and having to repeat what you just said. Use your FOCUS and double check important details, like whether the restaurant you’ve chosen for a meet-up is still in business. Or whether it is booked for a commercial shoot or a private party — all of which has happened to me during Mercury retrogrades.

If you are looking for a job, Mercury retrogrades are a perfect time to reach out to people from your past. Mine your address book and trust that your contacts will be happy to hear from you. However, do not be frustrated if your target is away on vacation or keeps rescheduling meetings. Also, triple check your emails and resumes before you hit “send,” as there is a higher probability of typos and other sloppy snafus.

In your business, you’ll need to make sure all communications have been received and are clearly understood. Be mindful of the higher potential for communications equipment to go on the fritz. MAKE SURE YOUR FILES ARE BACKED UP. Also be aware of a higher than average probability for delays in shipping and travel arrangements. For this you will need an extra dose of patience.

You may also find it profitable to REview a project from the past. Maybe you shelved it then, but now is the time to REconsider. However, be advised that a spontaneously, “out-of-the-blue” idea for advancement may not be so sound when Mercury turns direct. This is why the conventional wisdom advises against finalizing and/or signing contracts on deals during Mercury retrograde. An exception might be supported if you are REnegotiating or RElocating. If you absolutely must close a deal, triple check everything. The key is not to RUSH.

This is a good time to schedule a corporate REtreat. Any activity that affords the opportunity to REview past performance is encouraged. REsearch on a new strategy is also favored.

Mercury retrogrades are not favored for launching a new website or a new communications systems. There is a higher than average probability of technical glitches and confusion. REvisions, however, are A-OK.

In general, adopt a playful attitude of flexibility to whatever twists you encounter. Avoid making major purchases (especially electronic ones). Don’t believe everything you hear or read in the papers. Rumors have a higher probability of spreading during Mercury retrogrades. Avoid losing patience — that’s a big one.

When in doubt, be silent!

Do plan on RElaxing, REviewing, REsearching, REorganizing, REgenerating, REconnecting and REcreating….and REviewing your life with your astrologer.

So do take it easy on Monday, on a day driven by the Moon in people-pleasing Libra. As much as Libra seeks balance, fairness and harmony, the patterns leading up to the Full Moon — exact at 2:08 AM ET on TUESDAY — suggest anything but. A literally jovial contact between Jupiter and the Moon at 6:58 PM ET heightens emotions and builds to a possible power play at 9:54 PM ET, when the Moon is challenged by Pluto.

After the Full Moon face-off against the me-me-me Aries Sun, balance and harmony may be further disrupted by another face-off between the Moon and rebel Uranus at 7:31 AM ET. Yes, it’s that weekly clash among Moon, Pluto and Uranus — augmented through the summer by Jupiter’s expansive influence. Not only that, but this Full Moon also connects with Eris. You may remember that Eris symbolizes those who may stop at nothing to secure a place at the table, having previously been dissed. In mythology Eris is the goddess of discord — perhaps a feminine counterpart to Mars.  It’s an apt time to be a warrior woman, with the following caveat to those who would get in a warrior woman’s way: “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.”

But wait — there’s more. While the Libra Moon is disrupted by Eris, the warrior Aries Sun joins forces with Uranus at 1:29AM ET on FRIDAY. This is the other shoe dropping after the first one fell last week. We have been tracking these quarterly clashes among the Sun and the Uranus-Pluto square since 2012. Here’s a sample from 2016.

Other than Friday’s Sun-Uranus meet-up, there are no other exact aspects among the planets except to the Moon this week. In these apparent “empty spaces,” there is room for much to fall, in the way that a giant chunk of ice breaks off an Arctic shelf and crumbles into the sea, as if no one saw it coming.

And now, the news.

Let the record show that the Full Moon at 21 Libra-Aries will challenge P45’s Venus and Saturn in Cancer. You can’t say that this man doesn’t value family ties. It is fascinating to note that Stephen K. Bannon’s natal Uranus hits P45’s Venus and Saturn. It’s a disruptive influence on P45’s family ties, no? How interesting that during this current Venus retrograde — when social graces fly out the window and you can’t help but tell people how you really feel — a blow-up between P45’s son-in-law (Jared Kushner) and Bannon made headlines. Was their effort to “bury the hatchet” a success? Given what is known about the latter’s horoscope, let’s see what happens in mid-May and mid-June.

Back to P45. We’ve established that this Full Moon hits his unique horoscope.  Transiting Mars (the energy of action) will also make contact with planets and angles in his horoscope on April 13th, 16th and 21st. Do you know when Mars is scheduled to hit your Mars and your angles? You really should and I can tell you! When Mars hits these sensitive points we see increased potential for outbursts of energy: anger, assertive, accidents. I had a field day tracking Mars in the horoscopes of headline newsmakers last March.

So P45 is likely to be feeling provocative and provoked this week. Not only that, but he’s likely feeling expansive, thanks to the second hit of his Jupiter return at 17 degrees of Libra. Talk about luck! But there’s a wild card factor to the expansive action potential, given that rebel Uranus is also hot in his chart, especially on April 5th and 20th. Keep that in mind when watching the news.

Meanwhile…

It’s not just the U.S. seemingly falling apart. South Africa has its own political crisis, with massive demonstrations last week calling for President Jacob Zuma to step down. Thousands are marching against the socialist government in Venezuela.  There were “unauthorized” protests in Russia, too — earlier this month. France is facing its own potentially volatile elections on April 23rd and in May. In Alabama, the scandal-plagued governor  — Robert Bentley — is finally facing impeachment hearings. Papers were filed a year ago.

In the non-political arena, I see many stories reflecting the women of steel/no mercy potential of the Pattern of the Month: Saturn square Venus. Google stands accused of extreme pay discrimination against women.  Conservative pundit Tomi Lahren is suing Glenn Beck for wrongful termination, saying she was fired because of pro-choice remarks she made. I was not familiar with the 20-something Ms. Lahren until I saw a clip of her being interviewed on the Daily Show.

On the other hand, women in British Columbia can no longer be required to wear high heels at the office — and this isn’t the only place in the world where this is a subject of debate. I will bet fifty cents that Fox News requires its women on-air talent to wear heels, and that it is not the only broadcast network with that policy.

In other news…

In a horoscope, when Uranus (lightning in a bottle) makes contact with cosmic sugar daddy Jupiter, sudden windfalls are more likely. When Uranus makes contact with Venus, we see the potential for disruptive revelations in relationships and matters of worth. That is what is going on in Bill O’Reilly’s horoscope, as we are learning about the $13 million in fees paid to five women who accused O’Reilly of sexual harassment over the years — with more accusations made in recent days. The settlement fees were paid by Fox — his employer. Dear Avid Reader, has your employer done as much for you?

I wrote about O’Reilly back in early 2015, as well as Brian Williams — who also raised eyebrows last week (Williams is still gushing over guns).  While advertisers are ditching the O’Reilly Factor in droves, O’Reilly’s book on hahahahahahaha family values is an instant bestseller and his ratings are through the roof. Did you know that April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month?

Here is Alec Baldwin, portraying O’Reilly and P45 over the weekend on SNL. Mr. Baldwin is also on a roll…as predicted earlier this year.

Friday’s story about the girl in India who was reportedly being raised by monkeys felt so off to me — and not at all in tune with the harshness of planetary patterns — so I did not mention it. Now it turns out that she is not believed to have been raised by monkeys. She is believed to be disabled and was likely abandoned by her family. Right. That is harsh. Fits the patterns.

Add harshness and ambition to the power and resources suggested by Saturday’s Sun-Pluto meet-up, and you might see an in-depth NYT article about how the rise of solar power is killing jobs in the U.S. (because China has taken the lead in developing renewable energy). Meanwhile, solar power broke the 50% threshold in California last week, pushing prices into the negative. Wow!

And last but not least, meet John Goodenough, an inventor who revolutionized battery technology decades ago. Now he’s done it again. His latest patent is for a battery that is so effective it make electric cars ridiculously affordable and efficient, killing off the need for petroleum-fueled cars. Mr. Goodenough is 94 years old. So if you think you’ve done everything possible in life — don’t be ridiculous. You’ve got years ahead of you! And yes, yes, YES…we see the potential for Mr. Goodenough’s scientific genius and empowerment in his horoscope at this time.

When will your genius potential break out? What’s going on in your horoscope? Here’s the 411 on consultations.

Thank you for reading this forecast and sharing it with your friends. You have awesome friends, and I know this because they consult with me when you share these posts. Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday-Sunday 4/7-10/2016: New Moon in Aries; More Rolling Heads and Warrior Women

Feeling especially charged this morning? Fizzle out as the day progressed?

Between 4:33AM ET and 10:56AM ET, the me-me-me Aries Moon made contact with Saturn, Pluto and Uranus, before going void for the rest of the day on that Me-Without-Compromise Moon-Uranus meet-up. At 7:24AM ET, the new lunar cycle officially began, as the Moon met up with the Aries Sun. Light a candle; make a list and take time to re-set your intentions for the next thirty days.

A New Moon in Aries suggests a need — or an opportunity — to be a courageous, inspiring pioneer and/or warrior, preferably on the side of the angels. At its best, Aries is a champion for the weak and vulnerable. It inspires people to take initiatives and defy the odds…yes, sometimes foolishly, but hey — if Plan A blows up, there’s always a Plan B, a Plan C and D. A true Aries never never never gives up. There is always a tomorrow.

At its worst, well…let’s just say Aries can be utterly self-absorbed and go to disturbing extremes in order to get there FIRST. Wherever, whatever…so long as something gets started. Astrologer Rick Levine — who celebrated his Aries birthday yesterday — aptly describes the Aries strategy for success as “Ready? Fire. Aim!” I like to say that Aries falls down stairs because it is faster than walking. You got a problem with that?

New Moon seeds planted now may be imbued with a strong need for freedom and empowerment, suggested by Moon’s contact with Pluto and Uranus.  They also hold an easy structuring flow, courtesy of the Moon’s early AM contact with Saturn. Also in an easy flow: prominent crusading values and righteous opinion, suggested by Mars in Sagittarius trine to Venus at 2 Aries, at the Aries Point. Want some pixie dust with that? Mars and Neptune have been in a tense pattern for weeks, and the tension continues through May, returning for a last huzzah at the end of August. Your dusted pixies may be fanatical, magical, scandalous, seductive or drunk on their own delusions. It’s we who choose how we will manifest the potential suggested by planetary guideposts. Upside or downside — we decide.

Many astrologers have noted that this New Moon makes contact with Eris, known in mythology as the Goddess of Discord. File this under “increased potential for righteous outrage from those who perceive they haven’t been offered a seat at the table.” Also file it under “bullheaded/intractable  thoughts and communication, potentially running wild,” suggested by Mercury unaspected in Taurus.

In the New Moon chart for Washington DC, we see this Mercury exactly on a 2 degree Taurus Ascendant, with the Sun and Moon exactly squaring an 18 Capricorn Midheaven, atop which sits Pluto at 17 Cap.  There are four planets, plus Chiron, Eris and the South Node in the 12th house. This house traditionally refers to covert concerns, secret enemies, institutions, the self-undoing and issues we bury in the subconscious. Sounds like a lot of behind-the-scenes, backroom power plays which — with that Mercury on the ASC, we should hear about in plodding detail or pixie-dusted spin. Also hidden away in the chart for Washington: Mars and Saturn in the 8th House. Intriguing.

You’re more personally affected by this New Moon if you have a planet or important point at 19 degrees of Cancer, Libra, Capricorn, and especially Aries. Bernie Sanders has Moon at 20 Aries, Mars at 24 Aries and Venus at 23 Libra. The entity that continues to wreak havoc in the Middle East and elsewhere has Sun at 20 Aries, Venus and Eris at 23 Aries and Mars at 22 Aries.  Justin Trudeau has Moon at 18 Aries. Pope Francis has Mars at 20 Libra — and he’ll be making headlines on Friday.

The Sabian Symbol for 19 Aries is “a magic carpet.” Ooh — more pixie dust!  A magic carpet is empowered by something outside conventional norms, transcending the Earth, rising above it. What an interesting perspective you can get by introducing a little levity into your life. Or alternatively, as Sabian Symbol guru Blain Bovee writes:

Suspending natural laws implies effecting the extraordinary or not appreciating the gravity of the situation….

(cue “Shock Horror Riff” now, please)

Bovee’s  take on this Symbol seem to echo the overall patterns of this New Moon with its breakout, magical or delusional potential. In applying this Symbol in our daily lives, Bovee adds:

Think of magic as the wisdom to know when to stand above the fray; to transcend situations that could lead to bereavement; to ascertain the right moment to touch down.

How interesting that the Sabian Symbol for last month’s New Moon suggested the potential for being swept away by the madding crowd.

On Friday, the Taurus Moon seeks to build and maintain comfort and security — perhaps in ways that are fiercely unique, given Saturday’s meet-up between the Sun and rebel Uranus. The Taurus Moon will be void all day Saturday. Chill and avoid the malls.

Moon buzzes into Gemini at 1:59AM ET on Sunday, clashes with Mars at 4:06PM ET and squares off with nebulous Neptune at 7:59PM ET. Double check your communication channels to make sure what you heard is what was said.

No sleeping in on Monday, as the Moon will not be void in the morning.

And now, the news.

The disruptive Sun-Uranus-Pluto action this week continues to be reflected in rolling heads (the Sun) of state and other bright stars. In the wake of the Panama Papers massive leak, Argentina’s leader now faces an investigation. British PM David Cameron appears to be coming clean. In China, no heads are rolling, but websites posting the leak have been censored. Because if you censor it, that means it didn’t happen.

In Alabama, articles of impeachment were filed against Governor Robert Bentley (R-AL), who is currently mired in a sex scandal amid other questionable actions.  In other news, Thomas O. Staggs, thought to be the likely successor to Disney CEO Robert Iger, was suddenly let go.

Meanwhile, Don Blankenship, the former CEO of Massey Energy, received the maximum sentence — one year — for conspiring to ignore federal mining safety regulations. This is considered extraordinary, the first time such a high-ranking executive has been found guilty of a workplace safety violation.  You may recall that six years ago, 29 miners were killed in an explosion in one of Massey’s mines.

Venus entering Aries on Tuesday suggested prominent stories of fiery, independent and/or warrior women. I’d heard of Burning Man, but not the Dinah, where this year 20,000 lesbians gathered for a five-day festival in Palm Springs. The fest has been happening since 1991. Meanwhile, the NYT just posted a depressing piece about how Boko Haram is training abducted women to become suicide bombers. Feels like there are shades of Eris, Goddess of Discord in that one.

Discordant women in Indiana are attracting attention nationwide today, as a campaign called Periods for Pence made the home page of the NYT. In response to Governor Mike Pence signing a bill requiring, for instance, that a miscarried or aborted fetus must be now buried or cremated at the woman’s expense, Hoosiers with hoo-has have been peppering the governor’s office with status reports and questions about gynecological concerns. A suit challenging the constitutionality of the law has just been filed.

Meanwhile, in Australia, prominent Venusian themes of sugar, women, money and social graces made headlines in this story about a Gender Gap Bake Sale intended to expose wage disparity, yet exposed something even uglier. Also ugly: a very lengthy expose on sugar itself, arguing that it is poison. What’s interesting about that story — which I’ve heard before — it that it builds on research that was published in the aftermath of the Uranus-Pluto conjunctions of  1965-1966. The research was not well-received, and now another scientist is having a go with research of his own.

That’s it for the news! Have a wonderful Moon in Taurus weekend, indulging in good food, drink and a snuggle with your sweetie. To facilitate your efforts to build material security, here’s how you can stash away some tax-free funds right here in the good ol’ USA. No need to call anyone in Panama.

Thank you for reading this forecast. Here’s how to schedule a personal consultation. We will have a fabulous discussion together!

Astro-logical Forecast for Tueday 4/16/2013: Free Will & Consciousness

As of 10:49PM ET last night, Moon entered the watery depths of Cancer, a sign known for its emotional sensitivity,  nurturing ability, and its need to establish a solid family/homeland foundation. It is the power of Mom and apple pie, and our collective soul could use a dose of it.

A dreamy connection between Moon and empathic Neptune at 8:18AM ET sets the tone for much of the business day in time zones Eastern thru Pacific, softening the sharp edges of so many other planets — Sun, Mercury, Mars and Uranus — in fiery Aries. It suggests a need for inspiration and intuitive action, coupled with the drive and passion that facilitates success. Temper your initiatives with sensitivity and you can accomplishment much today.

As the day progresses, the Cancer Moon is given further gravitas by a strong connection to steady, sobering Saturn at 5:14PM ET, which is about when we may experience a jolt, revelation , power play and/or catharsis, as the sensitive Moon is challenged by rebel Uranus at 6:12PM ET and then by ruthless Pluto at 10:18PM ET (we just had a 7.8 quake in Iran). Be vigilant and be prepared (which just happens to be in synch with the advice of Beth Owlsdaughter’s wonderful Tarot Card of the Week). These lunar challenges will be happening as the Sun in warrior-hero Aries and Mars (the warrior planet which rules Aries), approach an exact conjunction Wednesday at 8:20PM ET, as noted in previous forecasts. The potential manifestations of this power focus of self-centered will and action are, at its best, fearless, inspiring feats of heroism; bold actions that take us into new frontiers. At its worst, Sun-Mars in Aries can be dangerously self-absorbed, angry, destructive and yes, explosive — especially when the disruptive Uranus-Pluto square is added to the mix.

If you recall the forecast for the last week’s New Moon in Aries, you will remember the potential for destructive action was discussed, as — for example —  Kim Jong-un was rattling sabers and raising concerns. But two explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon? Utterly bewildering, which is exactly what we see in the horoscope for the first explosion at 2:50PM ET in Boston: foggy, bewildering Neptune on an angle, i.e., the cusp of the 7th house, which represents the public. And the public is bewildered. Who could do such a thing? (Neptune suggests a fanatic). In the online  astrology forums, astrologers are analyzing charts, looking for patterns that reflect — and would portend the potential for this awful reality. Like, how interesting it is to see 2 degrees of Aries on the Ascendant for last week’s New Moon chart calculated for Boston. And that yesterday, mental Mercury was at 2 degrees of Aries, triggering the New Moon chart and suggesting an aggressive idea might gain prominence. And that in the chart for the first explosion we see mental Mercury in the house associated with death, approaching a conjunction with rebel Uranus (surprising, explosive). And that Eris, a cosmic body specifically referring to war, is at zero degrees of Aries — the Aries Point — conjunct mental Mercury!

There are plenty of other patterns suggesting the potential for explosive action (including a challenging square in the horoscope of the US from transiting Mars to Pluto)  — that could be used for a horrible purpose — or a higher, heroic one. It is fascinating to see a meme circulating on Facebook last night, featuring a quote by Fred Rogers, who had a TV show that was comforting and beloved by children everywhere (Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood): “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” And indeed, there were plenty of helping heroes in yesterday’s chaos.

Astrology can identify the potential for great good or evil suggested by a planetary pattern. We can surmise reasons why someone with a disconnected consciousness might choose evil over good. What astrology doesn’t do is answer the bewildering question of WHY anyone who allegedly has a soul and consciousness, as all humans presumably do, has the option of inflicting such damage and pain.  Why is there evil in the world?

As it turns out, over the weekend I happened to read Proof of Heaven by Dr. Eben Alexander. Dr. Alexander was in a coma for seven days and had an amazing out-of-body experience that transformed his life — and just might transform yours, should you read the book.  And in the book the question of why there is evil in the world was addressed. And the answer was something like this.  Evil exists in places where beings with souls and consciousness are learning the lessons of free will. Earth is one such place. If evil were not an option, we would not be able to make choices and thus learn the lessons required in the laboratory called Planet Earth. There is relatively little evil in the Universe compared to the amount of good, and this is very, very good. And there is probably far more good on this planet than evil — though there have been times where one wonders…

Use the sensitive, dynamic, proactive energy suggested by today’s planetary patterns to go out and do good things today. Exercise your free will to be a hero, the highest form of Aries — as opposed to a destructive jerk , which is the alternative. The choice is yours.

And when in doubt, count your blessings — always empowering.

Peace out.
