Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 4/11/2012: After the Void, Make It Happen

Early morning risers on the East Coast may be engaged or presented with a flurry of words, perhaps in a heated debate, as mental Mercury challenges the Moon — which is still in opinionated Sagittarius — at 6:06AM ET.  Moon goes void at 7:05 AM ET on a constructive connection with disciplined Saturn; possibly adding an unexpected twist or “flake factor” any best-laid plans. Go with the flow and remember that any crises that turn up in the next six hours are likely much ado about nothing. When in doubt, check to see that the machine is actually turned ON.

At 1:02PM ET Moon moves into enterprising Capricorn, needing to make something happen out of those lofty ideals. Inspiration and the energy to work out the details of a plan will likely color the rest of the afternoon, perhaps ending with a jolt/surprise/flash of insight around 10:33PM ET.

There’s so much to write about re: planetary patterns driving the headlines that I could easily devote an hour-long show to the subject. Where to begin? Pluto turning retrograde was certainly reflected in several “news from underground” front page headlines, including this report disputing the governor of New Jersey’s rationale for pulling the plug on a massive plan to build a new TUNNEL under the Hudson River http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/10/nyregion/report-disputes-christies-reason-for-halting-tunnel-project-in-2010.html  Meanwhile, Moon in opinionated Sagittarius, which also rules foot-in-mouth disease, is sublimely expressed in this piece about the manager of the Florida Marlins being suspended after expressing his opinion (“I love Fidel Castro”), about the Cuban dictator. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/11/sports/baseball/marlins-suspend-manager-for-5-games-over-comments-on-castro.html?hp

Planetary patterns are also reflected in last Friday’s disappointing jobs report and this week’s sell-off in the markets in Europe and the U.S.  Suffice it to say that after last month’s materially self-sufficient, enriching Earth Grand Trine, a streamlining is certainly suggested.  I am fascinated that Rick Santorum’s surge in popularity  at the end of 2011 coincided with his Venus (social expression, love, money, women) being empowered by potent Pluto. As he ended/suspended his campaign today, his Venus was hit by Uranus, sudden disruptor of the status quo.

It goes on. Stay tuned to this channel for continuing updates from the cosmos…

Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 4/10/2012: Pluto Retrograde; Mars Direct

It’s another day of Moon in high-flying, waxing philosophical Sagittarius, where the reigning need is to expand our horizons and express our opinions. Moon in Sag is great for profound debates, a walk in nature, a night at the theater — any activity that offers a change of scene, lifts our spirits and broadens our minds.

With no exact lunar aspects during business hours in the U.S., there may be a slow feel to the day…like so much bottlenecked energy waiting for a release. Part of that bottlenecked feeling is suggested by aggressive Mars, still retrograde in perfectionist Virgo and moving even closer to nebulous Neptune. If you’re just tuning in to these forecasts, you can refer to posts from last week on how Mars and Neptune interact, and how it is reflected in the headlines. Keywords for Mars-Neptune connections include: charisma, showbiz, delusion, con artists, fanatics, irritability (especially with Mars in nerve-wracked Virgo), guru and a sublimely spiritual revelation. This particular Mars-Neptune connection is in effect all through April.

Ruthless Pluto turns retrograde at 12:21 PM ET.  When it does, Pluto will be at 9 degrees of Capricorn. Retrograde planets appear to be moving backward in the sky, as seen from Spaceship Earth. Here is a picture of retrograde motion, courtesy of someone at NASA: http://starchild.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/StarChild/questions/question46.html

During retrograde periods, areas in life that are ruled by the planet are held back and up for review. For example, Pluto refers to power plays, resources, perspective and transformation. Wherever Pluto falls in your horoscope; i.e, wherever you have 9 degrees of Capricorn, is where issues of power, resources, perspective and transformation will come up.

If you were born 8-10 days into the sign of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, you will feel this Pluto retrograde period more personally than the rest of us. What issues of transformation and empowerment are you working through — or toward — right now?

Ship it today if you can, or ship it Wednesday afternoon, as the Moon will be void-of-course from 7:05 AM – 1:02PM ET tomorrow. And get ready for action-oriented Mars to finally turn direct on Friday at 11:53PM ET, potentially releasing a truckload of pent-up energy its been sitting on since January 23rd.  Look for projects you’ve been dutifully planning and organizing to finally begin taking form. If you made significant life decisions born out of frustration or sudden impulse during Mars retrograde, especially those involving partnerships, you may find yourself rethinking your course of action in the coming weeks.

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 4/9/2012: A Brief Look at the Week Ahead

Happy Monday! I hope you had a deep and meaningful Easter/Passover weekend, suggested by the Moon being in Scorpio from 11:18AM ET Saturday until 11:12M ET today. If you went overboard on Easter candy (or anything else) yesterday, blame an indulgent opposition between Moon and Jupiter, the cosmic sugar daddy. I used these planetary patterns to indulge in a day at the local spa, complete with a deep-tissue massage.

A slow start to the morning and/or an unexpected twist is suggested by a void-of-course Moon (as of 2:56 AM ET); Moon enters opinionated Sagittarius at 11:12AM ET. Feel like starting your work week off with yoga, meditation or some other creative flow? A Moon void can support it.

And speaking of flow, lunar aspect today suggest the following: more creativity or dreamy/confusion/spaciness (Moon square nebulous Neptune) at 3 PM ET; a potential clash of opinions or an impassioned outburst of energy around 5:22PM (Moon square aggressive Mars); innovation, networking and good times are favored by Moon trine rebel Uranus and opposed loving Venus at 8:02PM and 8:27 ET, respectively.

The whole day offers much potential for innovation in social expression, creative arts and finances, suggested by  Venus in an easy connection with Uranus. If you are out and about today, you may be surrounded by people whose opinions feel like a breath of fresh air. Or perhaps you will be the source of those refreshing points of view.

Your Moon voids for the week: Wednesday 7:05 AM – 1:02 PM ET; Friday 1:05PM -5:48PM ET. If you don’t know what a void-of-course Moon is, look up the forecast that was posted on February 10, 2012.

Planetary shifts this week include Pluto turning retrograde Tuesday at 12:21PM ET and Mars turning direct on Friday at 11:53 PM ET. More on that later this week.

Finally, a brief look at the headlines. On a day when nebulous Neptune challenged Venus, suggesting dreamy charm and/or fantasy, isn’t it wonderful to see an op-ed on the home page of the New York Times about the power of magical thinking  and superstitions  http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/08/opinion/sunday/in-defense-of-superstition.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=magical%20thinking&st=cse  Also of note: this article about one individual leading the charge against an allegedly corrupt system. The individual in question happens to be a 23-year-old woman and a student in Chile. With rebel Uranus in Aries (the individual) squaring Pluto (corruption exposed, transformation, power) in Capricorn (the establishment) for the next three years, we are sure to see many stories from around the world on how the actions of one person are disrupting the system. And since this story went to press under the influence of dreamy Neptune, this particular revolutionary happens to be  “glamorous” Coincidence or conspiracy? www.nytimes.com/2012/04/08/magazine/camila-vallejo-the-worlds-most-glamorous-revolutionary.html?_r=1&scp=3&sq=chile&st=cse

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 4/6/2012: Full Moon in Libra

The Full Moon in Libra, exact at 3:19PM ET, is the only exact aspect of the day. It suggests that needs of the individual vs. the needs of relationship at up for illumination and/or release. If you know where 18 degrees of Libra and Aries fall in your horoscope, that is the area of your own personal world where you can expect illumination, release or an interesting development.

The Sabian Symbol for the Full Moon is 18 Libra is “two men placed under arrest” opposing the Sun at 18 Aries (Sabian Symbol: “an empty hammock”). I am intrigued by these two symbols, given what stories the Sabian Symbol for the New Moon on March 22nd suggested would capture our attention in the headlines during this cycle (one of them was Trayvon Martin — feel free to review the New Moon forecast).

Keywords for the Full Moon symbols include, according to Sabian Symbol guru Blain Bovee: taking a time out, bending the pillars of law, values, mores; operating outside the law/rules in an innovative or slightly defiant way; a story with holes in it; a story that hangs on one or two points; a story told from opposing sides; an arresting beauty (!), or some other decision or event that brings activity to a halt”.

We’ll see how these keywords play out in the headlines through the end of this lunar cycle. If you don’t know what a Sabian Symbol is, check out this link: www.sabian.org/sabian_symbols.php  And if you find the symbols as intriguing as I do, check out Blain Bovee’s most excellent reference book, The Sabian Symbols and Astrological Analysis. If you’re a student of astrology, you’ll love it!

Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 4/5/2012: Everything’s Coming Up Roses

Moon will be void of course from 1:37AM – 11:32 AM ET, suggesting a slow start or twist to your morning routine, augmented by the dreamy charm and/or fantasy of the square between nebulous Neptune and loving Venus, exact at 9:51 PM ET. Is that why there’s a piece called “Living Like a Billionaire, if Only for a Day” on the front page of the New York Times? http://dealbook.nytimes.com/2012/04/04/living-like-a-billionaire-if-only-for-a-day/?hp

Add the Moon in people-pleasing Libra (as of 11:32 AM ET) to the mix and….oooh…that could make for Some Enchanted Evening, ripe with potential for enjoying the arts, music, romance or some other rarefied escape. As for meeting a stranger across a crowded room…hey, it could happen, given weird, wacky Uranus in Aries challenging the Libra Moon at 7:54PM ET. If not a stranger, then some kind of jolt, surprise or sudden revelation. And now that I think about it…a certain sexual tension may seek release on Saturday, with aggressive Mars squaring receptive Venus at 7:37PM on Saturday. And not only that, we’ll have the release and illumination suggested by the Full Moon, too — exact Friday at 3:19PM ET.  Who’s going out for cocktails?

Meanwhile, I hope you’re being patient with any mishegosh mental Mercury turning direct has thrown your way. Certainly you’re dealing with travel delays if your flight through Dallas has been disrupted by Tuesday’s tornadoes. I’m hearing reports of other scheduling snafus, too. And I’m sure I’ve misspelled “mishegosh”.

Plan your escape.  It’s almost Friday!

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 4/4/2012: Mercury Turns Direct

Mercury turns at direct at 23 degrees of Pisces as of 6:11AM ET, suggesting that great ideas that were put on hold may once again move forward. But don’t rush to sign on the dotted line until you’ve carefully reviewed that proposal on your desk. So often, when Mercury (mind, communication and travel),  moves forward, we find that what we thought were solid concepts have more than a few holes. What was that mantra you were given a few days ago? Focus, focus, focus and patience, patience, patience — especially with the details.  Give yourself until the 23rd to get your brain fully up to speed.

The day itself may be defined by the Moon in Virgo’s need for perfection, especially the perfection of a (romantic) ideal – or perfect organization. Check out yesterday’s notes on nebulous Neptune’s challenge to loving Venus, which will be exact on Thursday, as we are under the influence of this rose-colored pattern right now. Here’s to rarefied art, matters of spirits and other dreams that may be too good to be true, but delicious and delectable while they last.

Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 4/3/2012: Que Sera Sera

It’s Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012 and that means it is actress/singer Doris Day’s 88th birthday. Here is Doris Day singing Que Sera Sera from Hitchcock’s classic film The Man Who Knew Too Much. Happy birthday, Miss Day! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZbKHDPPrrc&feature=fvsr

Que Sera Sera would be a terrible signature song for an astrologer.

An indulgent connection between loving Venus in sensual Taurus and  the “oh just adore me, why don’t you” Leo Moon could get your day off to a jolly good start. It might also be a suggestion of wretched excess, picking up where a potentially expansive aspect left off yesterday (as I type, the markets are reportedly up in Asia. For now). Wretched excess revealed, eh? Like the big fat trip to Vegas on taxpayer dollars that just caused a number of heads to roll at the General Services Administration http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/03/us/politics/general-services-administration-chief-resigns.html?_r=1&hp ?

And speaking of excess, maybe we’ll learn for sure who won the Mega Millions jackpot that was held on Friday, under the auspices of a sensational, fanatical opposition between Mars and Neptune. When these two planets get together it’s a dazzling mix. Just ask Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich, who have this cocktail in their horoscopes.

Moon moves into discriminating Virgo at 9:53AM ET, and could immediately launch a clean-up effort to put everything right, though it may get side-tracked by an unattainable dream around lunchtime ET, thanks to — hello — nebulous Neptune rolling in like so much fog. What passion for perfection — or perfect organization could result in a critical (Virgo!) outburst around 5:16PM ET, hmmm? Depth and perspective are favored later that night, when incisive Pluto facilitates emotional release.

But wait, there’s more: loving Venus leaves earthbound Taurus for airy Gemini at 11:18AM ET, suggesting glib communication and wordplay will be back in vogue — or downright seductive — over the next few weeks. Who will whisper sweet nothings in your ear? With Venus also under the influence of nebulous Neptune (an exact square happens Thursday at 9:51PM ET), watch for troubadours, gurus, Romeos, refined artists and others wearing rose-colored glasses. If you’re an artist, healer, saint or other inspirational type, may these next few days find you especially creative.

One intriguing headline reflecting not only the fantasy-driven surrender/fanaticism suggested by nebulous Neptune opposing macho Mars is Sunday’s op-ed by Maureen Dowd, reporting on the erotic novel that’s all the rage among the double-X chromosome set. It’s clearly been spiked by that “resistance is futile” power play suggested by ruthless Pluto’s challenge to the Sun on Thursday.http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/01/opinion/sunday/dowd-shes-fit-to-be-tied.html?partner=rssnyt&emc=rss   Add Pluto in Capricorn — the PTB — challenging Uranus in Aries — freedom of the individual — to this lurid headline, also about a power play. Yesterday the Supreme Court ruled that there are apparently no limits whatsoever on strip searches of persons who are arrested and held in police custody http://loyalopposition.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/04/02/the-right-to-strip/  Meanwhile, in the UK, Big Brother is definitely watching…and listening, too:   http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/03/world/europe/british-government-eavesdropping-plans-draw-protest.html?hp  Stay tuned for more on this developing story as the year progresses…

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 4/2/2012: A Brief Two-Week Overview

East Coasters will be waking up in the afterglow of an expansive and indulgent connection between jolly Jupiter and the Moon in prideful, playful Leo…and that sets the tone for the entire day for everyone else, too.

There are no other exact planetary aspects for the rest of the day, so things may feel a little slow, but frankly, moving slowly is appropriate with both Mars (action) and Mercury (communication, mind) retrograde. Speaking of Mercury retrograde, the planet associated with all those scheduling and communication snafus we’ve been seeing in recent weeks turns DIRECT in motion at 6:11AM Wednesday. We’ll spend the rest of the week untangling whatever gets tangled and amplified by the Full Moon on Friday at 3:19PM ET.

Overall, there’s a push-pull, stop-and-go feel likely in store for this week and next, as ruthless Pluto turns retrograde on the 10th and action-oriented Mars turns direct on the 13th. So just remember these mantras: patience, patience, patience and focus, focus, focus..until we all get back into a regular groove. Everything is going to be just fine!

The only Moon void that could contribute to the twists and tangles of your work week is on Thursday from 1:37AM to 11:32AM ET. West Coasters probably won’t even notice it.

Happy April!

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 3/30/2012 & The Weekend: Chance of Thunderstorms, Followed by Sunshine

A day driven by a need for emotional and home(land) security, suggested by Moon in watery Cancer (which, btw, is Moon’s natural home). How might this need be challenged or charged, given the surprise/jolt/revelation suggested in the early morning hours (East Coast time), followed by the intensity of ruthless Pluto at 1:47PM ET? Whatever it is may be linked to your New Moon agenda and tension of the First Quarter Moon at 3:41 PM ET.  Let it all go after hours and enjoy the comforts and jocularity suggested by an easy connection between Moon and Jupiter at 8:41 PM.

Staying close to home, dining in, chatting with Mom or a close female friend — or maybe a home improvement project are fine choices for Saturday, as the Cancer vibe continues. You can shop until you drop without worrying about a Moon void to disappoint you and you’re not likely to overspend.

On Sunday, the Moon’s ingress into Leo suggests a giant meteor smashing into Earth, meaning you’ll never have to worry about your health insurance plan again.  April Fools’! But seriously folks, Moon in Leo offers a fine day for playful drama (or just plain drama), and we may see some especially inventive April Fools’ Day pranks, given that innovative Uranus wants to get into the act.  If you’re out and about, you’re likely to meet some folks from the fringe…and that can be a fun thing indeed.

Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 3/29/2012: Resistance is Futile

A day of many moods,  as the need for information drives the morning with Moon in chatty Gemini. A rest period is called for when Moon goes void of course on a stable connection to serious Saturn at 2:05PM…not to enter Cancer until 7:07PM ET. Unplug from the hubbub if you can, and resist the urge to be swept into any drama or power plays that may arise during this time. In the evening, the focus turns to a dream of home sweet home and the security home provides.

Pluto in Capricorn exactly squares the Sun in Aries at 3:54 PM. You are likely feeling this potent pattern personally if you were born 7 to 11 days into the signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. Significant challenges and changes in your life are strongly suggested, brought by forces seemingly beyond your control. No, it’s not all bad; Pluto transits can be quite empowering, even though structures you have relied upon may be taken away. Rise from the ashes and build yourself anew!

Inventor, designer and engineer Buckminster Fuller had a few notable things to say about change, worth considering if you are currently coping with the above:

“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.” ― Richard Buckminster Fuller

“There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it’s going to be a butterfly. ” ― Richard Buckminster Fuller

And speaking of coping and transformation, here’s a bit from Fuller’s Wikipedia biography:

“By age 32, Fuller was bankrupt and jobless, living in public, low-income housing in Chicago, Illinois. In 1922,Fuller’s young daughter Alexandra died from complications from polio and spinal meningitis. Allegedly, he felt responsible and this caused him to drink frequently and to contemplate suicide for a while. He finally chose to embark on “an experiment, to find what a single individual [could] contribute to changing the world and benefiting all humanity.

Fuller was experiencing a major Neptune transit (an “ego wipeout”), during the above time frame, and somehow he pulled himself together and lived to be 87. More inspiring words from this extraordinary mind can be found here:  www.goodreads.com/author/quotes/165737.Richard_Buckminster_Fuller
