Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 10/11/2016: Mercury in the Spotlight; Buzz, Buzz, Buzz

Good Morning!

Moon continues its sojourn through “who’s yer buddy?” Aquarius, on a work day primed for big ideas about fairness, laced with scandal or sex appeal.  Mercury — the planet which refers to how we need to think, travel and communicate — is hot this week. Mercury also refers to MERChants and MERChandise and all things MERCantile — so look for some interesting business ideas to make headlines. My favorite so far is the Nobel Prize awarded on Monday to a couple of economists working on contract theory — “improving the design of contracts, the deals that bind together employers and their workers, or companies and their customers,” reports the New York Times.

Today at 5:46AM ET Mercury meets up with expansive Jupiter. On Thursday at 5PM ET it is squared by a ruthless effective Mars in Capricorn, either instigating a conflict or pushing through a deal with gusto. On Friday, Mercury is aided and abetted by a constructive connection with Saturn, perhaps allowing us to make something practical out of Thursday’s energetic outburst. On Saturday, Mercury is challenged by Pluto, suggesting fools will not be suffered gladly; discourse will be sharp and corruption will be exposed.  On Saturday the balance-seeking Libra Sun will be opposed by rebel Uranus in me-me-me Aries, suggesting a mutiny or flash of insight disrupting the status quo — adding to the drama of the Mercury-Pluto power play.  On Sunday just past midnight — 12:23AM ET — the Aries Moon will be full….of itself? No doubt.

If you have planets between 4 and 16 degrees of Aries, Capricorn, Libra and Cancer, I expect you’ll be feeling the communicative buzz more than most. Make those calls; return those emails; make those pitches.

Moon goes void today (Tuesday) at 7:49PM ET, offering us a long chill period until 8:43AM ET on WEDNESDAY, when the Moon enters soulful Pisces, just in time for those atoning on Yom Kippur. The next void will be between 3:13AM ET and 11:08AM ET on FRIDAY, after which the Moon charges into Aries. The pace should noticeably pick up over the weekend, what with the Moon waxing full and making supercharged  contacts (along with the Libra Sun) to disruptive Uranus.

And now, the news.

The Washington Post’s daily “first reads” email is chock full of big ideas involving fairness, equality, social graces and other Libra themes, as anticipated. “Why You Should Give Your Son More Chores;” “Why People Swear at Work;” and “Learn Your Manners: a White Man’s Note to His Black Neighbor Draws a Viral Response.”  I am constantly in awe of the astonishing synchronicity of headline news and planetary patterns. Back to the news. With the Moon in Aquarius, we can expect a focus on people who are unconventional or simply different. What’s it like to be LGBT in China? Did you know that a new law has made it illegal for immigrants to get married in Louisiana? Marriage. Equality. Libra. I ask you, is this fair? Thank you, Washington Post, for making my job so easy today.

Speaking of laws, if you are not registered to vote in these twelve states, today is the LAST DAY to register before the election:

You cannot register to vote online in Michigan, Ohio, Texas, Montana or Tennessee, but each state has deadlines to register by mail or in person on Tuesday.

In the following six states, the deadline for all forms of registration, including online, is Tuesday.

New Mexico: You need a driver’s license or another official form of identification from the state to register online.

Pennsylvania: Here’s where you can register online.

Georgia: To register online, you need a driver’s license or another official form of identification from the state.

Indiana: To register online, you need a driver’s license or another official form of identification from the state.

Kentucky: You can register online here; the site gives residents further instructions about acceptable identification.

Louisiana: To register online, you need a driver’s license or another official form of identification from the state.

If you live in Florida, you have until October 18th to register. Here’s the 411 on other states not listed above. It may be too late for some of you, but check anyway.

UPDATE: Paul Ryan, whose people-pleasing, social graces-focused Libra Moon has been under intense pressure from transiting Uranus since late spring announced he would no longer defend his party’s nominee for president. People-pleaser that he is, he has not withdrawn his formal endorsement. Keep an eye on the Speaker, especially in April/May, when Uranus will complete the cycle involving Ryan’s Moon. Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 10/7/2016 & the Weekend: Storm Watch

(I started writing this forecast Thursday night…couldn’t get to the news portion until this afternoon)

The weekend begins with the Sagittarius Moon void of course as of 2:26AM ET on Friday. Will the lack of driving focus and potential to wander off course be reflected in a dampening of Hurricane Matthew’s force when it hits the eastern coast of Florida this morning? This is much on my mind as I type, as is Wednesday’s big charge between Mars (action; energy) and Jupiter (expansion).

UPDATE: Relieved to find at 6:30AM that the storm has been downgraded to a Category 3 and is not expected to make a direct hit. Haiti, sadly, was not as fortunate, having been subject to the high-energy release suggested by planetary patterns earlier this week.

Friday’s patterns include a prominence of ideas and communication, suggested by Mercury entering Libra at 3:56AM ET. We may see a need for thinking that is more rational, fair and balanced;  weighing opposing sides. Also on Friday: the first part of the Sun’s quarterly clash with Pluto (power) and Uranus (disruption). On Friday’s it’s Pluto at 3:31PM ET; Uranus follows on the 15th. Power plays involving heads of state; energy resources and news from underground are potentials.

Moon enters Capricorn at 4:40PM ET on Friday, seeking an outlet for getting practical projects done. You may be all fired up early Saturday, as the Moon meets up with Mars at 7:18AM ET. Onward — and hit those yard sales early.  At 9:56PM ET Moon meets up with Pluto, adding emotional intensity to your evening plans. Thirty minutes after midnight, we’ll have the First Quarter Moon, illuminating a potential challenge to the New Moon agenda you set last week.

At 12:51PM ET on SUNDAY, Moon goes void on a clash with rebel Uranus, suggesting a potential bolt from the blue or other shock or surprise. The Moon void continues until 2:33AM ET on MONDAY — and thus sets the tone for Sunday’s second debate between Hillary Clinton and her opponent. The debate is a “town hall” format; the void suggests a wandering track that will hopefully be less painful to watch than Tuesday’s Moon void VP debate, which Mike Pence phoned in from an alternate reality. Tim Kaine, pumped up by a supercharged Mars and Jupiter hitting his horoscope, was notably on the attack.

On Monday — a Columbus Day holiday for some, the Moon enters Aquarius at 2:33AM ET and drives the day with a need for social significance and networking. Big ideas on equality, seductively or scandalously presented, are likely to be on deck. Why? Mercury (thoughts) meets up with Jupiter (expansion); Mars (action) makes contact with Neptune (pixie-dust). You are more likely to be inspired — or in the spotlight — if you have a planet or point around 6 degrees of Libra, Aries, Cancer or Capricorn.

Oh — guess who has that configuration? Donald Trump: his Neptune is at 5 Libra and his Mercury is at 8 Cancer. I wonder what could happen….oh lookie here…(see below)

Regardless, no sleeping in on Monday or Tuesday.

And now, the news. I’ve actually been working on a lengthy op-ed piece — the second “astrology thing” I mentioned in the last forecast. It’s still a draft — and in the interest of posting a forecast now, will simply note that while I was drafting —The Washington Post broke a boundary-pushing Moon in Sagittarius “news from underground” video of the Republican presidential nominee having “an extremely lewd” conversation about his efforts to hit on women (“when you’re a star, you can do anything”) — including women who were not his wife. Transiting Jupiter expanding on his natal Neptune (delusions of grandeur and scandal) and squaring his Mercury (talk talk talk); transiting Mars (a provocative action) square his Neptune (scandal) opposing his Mercury.

Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 10/4/2016 & Beyond: Sneak Peak at the Week; When Mars Attacks!

Alll-righty then!

Picking up from where we left off on Friday, which was:

No sleeping in on Monday — planetary patterns suggest high-energy and discipline throughout the week, with a power play by the week’s end.  This bodes well for the application of those New Moon projects you’ve got planned.

The work week began with the Moon in controlling Scorpio, seeking to fulfill its mission of being appreciated for its emotional depth and substance. It goes void at 9:04PM ET, just in time for the VP debate between candidates Mike Pence and Tim Kaine. Much ado about nothing? Of little consequence? Upsets and twists in efforts to move forward in a straight line? A higher than average flake factor, reflected in the ratings? A victory for the underdog? All of these are caveats until 4:26AM ET WEDNESDAY, when the Moon enters high-flying Sagittarius and is no longer void. In this contest, I’m putting my two cents on Tim Kaine, given the action of transiting Jupiter and Mars in the contenders’ horoscopes — even without a confirmed birth time for Mike Pence.

Moon in Sagittarius (sign of the philosopher-clown) is bright and bouncy, ready for a gamble or a gambol. Wednesday through most of Friday, consider ways to broaden your horizons. Have an opinionated debate. Take in a show. Take a walk in the woods. Watch a foreign movie. If you can give yourself permission to wander on Friday, you’ll maximize the potential of a Sagittarius Moon that is void-of-course, which could be quite an adventure. Friday’s Moon void will occur between 2:26AM ET and 4:40PM ET. Can you start your Columbus Day holiday weekend early? Go for it!

The high-energy and discipline suggested this week comes courtesy of an easy alignment between the Sun and Saturn (facilitating said discipline and structure) and a super-charged aspect between Mars in Capricorn (practical, effective ambition translated into action) and Jupiter (expansion). The former is exact today at 12:59PM ET; the latter happens WEDNESDAY at 5:45PM ET. Also of note on Wednesday at 5:20PM ET: an easy alignment between Venus in Scorpio and Pluto in Capricorn. Venus refers to women, money, values, beauty and social expression. Pluto refers to power, resources, underground currents, transformation and regeneration.  Those Plutonian symbols are likely to be reflected in power-play headlines towards the end of the week, as Pluto squares the Libra Sun on Friday at 3:31PM ET.  Also on Friday: Mercury leaves Virgo for Libra at 3:56AM ET, moving past the point at which it turned retrograde on August 30th. Our collective thinking officially moves forward….until the next Mercury retrograde on December 19th.

If a surprise were going to show up in October (as opposed to the power play Friday’s Sun-Pluto challenge may bring), I’d look to the days leading up to the Full Moon on the 16th, when rebel Uranus will oppose the Sun and conjoin the me-me-me Aries Moon. Mars (action) and Mercury (communication) are in a combative connection on the 13th. On the 19th, Mars (assertion and action) meets up with Pluto in Capricorn, sign of the Powers That Be. Hours later, Mercury (ideas, communication) is disrupted by a hard connection to Uranus, suggesting innovation, shock or some other lightning bolt from the blue. In the U.S., the third and final debate between Hillary Clinton and her opponent happens on the 19th. Yowza. The days leading up to the 29th may also be provocative, as Mars is challenged by Uranus.

And now, the news.

Astrology — in two parts. First, some of you may have seen a “news” item in which NASA allegedly tells everyone that thanks to the precession of the equinoxes, your Sun Sign has changed. This is about the same “news” that caused panic in the populace at the beginning of 2011 — and refuted in this forecast at that time.   Why would this story be back now?  Off the top of my head, I do note that in late 2010 and early 2011,  Jupiter and Uranus (which refers to astrology) were together at the end of Pisces, close to the prominent Aries Point. Last month, Jupiter was at the end of Virgo, making contact with its position in 2011…so perhaps this, along with other planets recently at the end of Virgo, served as a trigger for the “story” to be revisited.

Meanwhile…a few random observations of the astonishing synchronicity of planetary patterns and the headlines.

On Saturday’s exact harmonious alignment between Venus (arts) and Neptune (even more sublimely artsy-fartsy), the home page of the NYT was littered with more than the usual array of stories on this theme. I was traveling over the weekend — I did not write them down.

Last week, big was BIG — as in Jupiter, which is in Libra, a people-pleasing, appearance -conscious sign if ever there was one. And on the 26th, the day of the first debate between HRC and her opponent, the Libra Sun met up with that big, hot, gaseous planet. The fallout: Alicia Machado, the former Miss Universe whom HRC’s opponent famously fat-shamed in the mid-90s, was back in the headlines with a Venus-in-Scorpio vengeance.

If you’ve been wondering why Ted Cruz took the opportunity on September 23rd  to tell the world he had consulted his conscience and concluded that the man who trashed Cruz’s wife and father, whom Cruz publicly declared to be “a pathological liar” was now his personal pick to become the next U.S. President, look also to transiting Jupiter and the Sun. Both recently squared his Capricorn Sun, suggesting a need for an expansive push of ego expression. As for why his conscience could forgive the deliberate cruelty of the current Republican nominee’s remarks, remember that Cruz is driven by a conflict-averse, appreciation-needing Moon in Libra. Also consider the anguish suggested by a once-in-a-lifetime measurement between Pluto and his natal Saturn, putting severe pressure on efforts to hang on to power and authority.  That measurement is exact on October 12th, in effect a few months before and after.

Finally, a little story about Mars — and how it suggests the potential for a release of energy — for better or worse — when it make contacts with planets and points in your own personal horoscope. On Sunday, Mars was at 3 degrees of Capricorn, almost exactly conjunct my 4 Capricorn Ascendant. The Ascendant is one of the health points in the horoscope, and a planet making a hard contact to the Ascendant often suggests a health concern. When the planet is Mars, accidents and inflammation are not uncommon. Which is what happened to me walking across a street on my way back from a trek to Costco. Didn’t see the little depression in the road. Caught my foot the wrong way and landed with a thud. Result: severely sprained ankle (inflammation; accident) — nothing broken, thankfully as the x-rays determined — but this has curtailed my tap and ballet lessons for at least a couple of weeks, which is disappointing.

And just because astrology has such a wicked sense of humor (it is ruled by wacky Uranus, after all), the Ascendant (i.e., “the face of”) the event chart of my fall is exactly conjunct the Fixed Star Scheat (a.k.a. “shit”), often associated with shipwrecks — and also Mars.

Did you know that sprained ankles heal faster if you walk on them, as opposed to plotzing on a couch like a sack of potatoes? Ya learn something every day.  Did you also know that it takes Mars two years to make a complete circle around your horoscope? Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 9/30/2016 & the Weekend: New Moon in Libra, Very Briefly

After yesterday’s looonnnnng Moon void in perfection-seeking Virgo, Moon entered Libra at 3:52AM ET. It’s still dead, suggesting a sense of listlessness or restlessness until the New Moon begins at 8:11PM ET. Wrap up projects from the past 30 days and then light a candle and make a list of your intentions for the next cycle.

This New Moon happens at 8 degrees of Libra, so wherever that falls in your horoscope is where you may expect seeds to be planted involving fairness, appreciation and balance in relationships. Idealism and a need for substantive beauty color this New Moon chart, suggested by an alliance between Venus and Neptune that will be exact tomorrow at 1:14PM ET. How will you rose-tint your world? And how will that influence your weekend plans? Art and music, anyone? With Venus in sexy Scorpio, this is the song that popped into my head…

On Sunday, the Moon goes void at 1:43AM and enters Scorpio at 3:43PM ET. Avoid the malls and yard sales during the void, as items purchased on impulse during voids have a higher probability of proving themselves of little use.

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday & Tuesday 9/26/2016: Sneak Peek at the Week; U.S. Horoscope Update; Pluto Direct

All-righty then!

Lots of action this week. Let’s start with the Moon, which has been in regal Leo since 9:48AM ET on Sunday. It drives the day with a need for ego recognition that may be playful, wonderfully creative, show-stopping and/or bombastic. The only aspect to the Moon today is a supportive flow from Saturn. So if you woke up feeling as if you could turbo-charge through your to-do list, that flow will help.

We have three other planetary markers infusing this day with potentially yuge power plays and boundary-pushing action. First is the Sun’s annual meet-up with Jupiter, which refers to expansion and reward, for better or worse. That happened at 2:59AM ET. Did you have a birthday over the weekend? How nice for you!

In the horoscope of the United States, the Sun-Jupiter meet-up makes contact with the U.S.’s Venus and Jupiter at 2 and 5 degrees of Cancer,  a strong potential for abundance if ever there was one. Coincidence or conspiracy that headlines now proclaim, “Millions in the U.S. Climb Our of Poverty At Long Last.” Hooray! America is great again! You don’t need to save us, Mr. Trump — you’re free to go back to (sur) reality TV.

Jupiter will be in contact with the U.S. Sun and Saturn on Election Day. Suggests expansion and a renewed sense of purpose — hopefully for what is fair, balanced and rational. Speaking of balance and fairness, am I the only one that’s noticed as uptick in the use of words like “equivalency” and “fair” and “balance” — ever since Jupiter entered Libra at the beginning of the month?

Second marker: Mars at the very end of “open mouth insert foot” Sagittarius, suggesting big potential for boundary-pushing action sparked by righteous opinion. What a night for a presidential debate. Mars — which refers to action and aggression — enters Capricorn at 4:08AM ET on TUESDAY. It will be there until 12:52AM ET on November 9th. In earthy Capricorn,  the action-oriented energy of Mars is quite comfortable.  So long as you keep your temper in check (and are not held hostage by the outbursts of others), you may move a mountain or two in your own personal world, especially if Mars makes contact with planets in your personal horoscope.

Third marker: Pluto turning direct at 14 degrees of Capricorn, exact at 10:59AM ET.  If you were born halfway through Aries, Cancer, Capricorn or Libra, prepare yourself for a final round of whatever forces have resulted in a major change of perspective over the past year, not unlike a phoenix rising from the ashes.  If you weren’t born on those days and you’ve been experiencing some kind of intense transformation — or the pressure to have one — your Moon or other acutely sensitive point (such as your Rising Sign) might be affected. Consult your local astrologer for details.

In the horoscope of the U.S., Pluto’s change of direction is almost – -but not quite — making contact with the U.S. Saturn. As I have noted  in prior posts, Pluto-Saturn transits are often anguished, and in the horoscope of the U.S.,  what we have is an anguished Saturn in Libra, building its structures and laws  (Saturn) upon what is equitable, just, diplomatic and fair (Libra). Headline after headline in recent years has provided opportunityies for the U.S. to see that equal treatment under the law is not functioning in practice.  But take this last hit of Pluto to the U.S. Saturn and add in the expansive potential for social graces of the First Planetary Marker discussed today, and consider how apt it is for the opening in Washington of the National Museum of African American History and Culture — as well as this photo of Michelle Obama and George W. Bush that quickly went viral.

We’ll have a New Moon in Libra on Friday at 8:11PM ET.  Stay tuned. One more planetary shift of note, which happened on Friday around 11AM ET: Venus left Libra for Scorpio, where it demands substance; none of that airy-theory-rational stuff that Libra does so well.  Venus in Scorpio needs depth and substance in social expression, along with passion, for better or for worse. As in revenge, served cold. It’s an honor thing with Scorpio. There is a certain code that must be followed. Anything less would be an insult. Show a Scorpio a bit of honor and you may have a loyal ally for life. And a fiercely passionate one, too.

Meanwhile, your Moon voids for the week are:

Tuesday 4:52AM ET – 5:43 PM ET, when the Moon finally enter Virgo to clean up whatever royal mess, pomp and circumstance erupted during the all- business day void.

Thursday 6:05AM ET until 3:52AM ET FRIDAY — a verrrrry long void — on a dead moon day, too — obsessive details about something of little consequence? Spend the day cleaning up your desk and organizing your files? Works for me.

And now, more news.

There’s a debate tonight, in case you haven’t heard. With all the patterns noted above, the sky’s the limit.  Tonight’s debate will be moderated by Lester Holt, a Pisces Sun with Moon in Pisces. “Presidential Moderator; Proven Fact-Checker” according to The Guardian. According to his horoscope, we see that careful, cautious fact-checking potential in an exact square between Mercury (how he needs to think) and Saturn (necessary controls). What a coincidence. That’s the tightest pattern in Hillary Clinton’s horoscope, too — or rather, the one many astrologers use. Without a confirmed birth time, we can’t be sure of her Ascendant, but we can be sure of that Mercury-Saturn square. Trump’s Mercury is square nebulous Neptune — and I believe that is the tightest pattern in his horoscope, too. Fascinating.

Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 9/22/2016: Mercury Direct; Sun in Libra; Mars Pushes Boundaries

While you were sleeping, Mercury turned direct at 1:31AM ET — be careful on the roads — be patient with yourself and others as we get used to our brains moving fully forward again, which will take until October 6th.

Meanwhile, the Moon continues in Gemini, the sign which needs to be the smartest kid in the room. So — whaddaya know? Something innovative and tech-savvy perhaps, as Mercury aligns with Uranus at 5:11PM ET. Resist the urge to lash out around 11:53PM ET, when action hero and provocateur Mars faces off against the Moon. Mars is at the end of Sagittarius, gathering steam and prominence as it prepares to enter make-it-happen Capricorn on TUESDAY morning. Mars in Sagittarius is action that know no boundaries. Mars is about to meet up with a measurement — the Saturn/Pluto midpoint — which has been mentioned in prior forecasts and is not a pretty picture. Pay attention to your surroundings over the next several days. There are too many distressing headlines reflecting the violent potential of Mars — in Charlotte, in Tulsa and more. Please stay safe.

The other big news today is the Sun leaving Virgo for Libra at 10:22AM ET. Happy birthday, Libra!

Here’s what you need to know about the first day of any season  — i.e., equinoxes and solstices — from an astrological point of view. The first days of Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter correspond with the first day (or first degree) of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, respectively (there are thirty degrees in each sign of the zodiac). Got that? Good.

These four signs are called cardinal signs. Cardinal signs initiate. They come up with the idea and put it into action, which leads to necessary change. “Cardinal” suggests (from the Latin root of the word), “that on which something turns or depends.”  So the first day/degree of a Cardinal sign is a turning point. In astrology, the technical term for the first degree of any Cardinal sign is the “Aries Point”, just to confuse people who are not professional astrologers. In other words, the first day of Cancer, Libra, Capricorn and Aries is the Aries Point. The first day of Taurus (and the rest of the signs) is NOT at the Aries Point).

Equinoxes and solstices are also prominent. We make a fuss over them, right? In Japan, the first day of each season is actually a national holiday. How cool is that? Thus, in a horoscope, a planet or angle at the Aries Point needs to be prominent. Off the top of my head, Meryl Streep & Elizabeth Warren (both Cancers — happy birthday!) and William Shatner (an Aries) were born with the Sun at the Aries Point. They’re pretty prominent in everything they do, don’t you think?

Libra is a airy, mental sign, generally concerned with relationships, social graces and with promoting fairness, justice and balance. Its ruling planet is Venus, which can be oh-so-sweet and socially gracious. Libra’s mantra is : I BALANCE. This does not mean Librans are balanced; it means they are seeking balance and are quite capable of swinging back and forth wildly in their quest. As sweet as Libra can be, they are not marshmallows. The term “iron fist in a velvet glove” often applies.

For the rest of the year and into 2017, those born with the Sun in Libra get an expansive boost from Jupiter, which moved into Libra earlier this month. This only happens every 12 years — so look back to the end of 2004 and 2005 and recall what opportunities you had to be the biggest fish in whatever pond you swam in. Thinking about Saturn square Neptune this week…and what I wrote about this pattern back in January 2015:

Briefly, Saturn is reality. Neptune is fantasy. Put them together and what have you got? A bubble of optimistic faith. When will it burst?  A few months ago, when I was reading The Big Short — about the collapse of the housing bubble and the outrageous speculation going on in the financial markets that led to the fiscal crisis in 2008,  I noticed a challenging aspect between Saturn and Neptune as that bubble was building.  There was a similar aspect in 1999, coinciding with the internet bubble and everyone freaking out about Y2K, which proved to be much ado about nothing. What pixie dust-covered fantasy will captivate us now and into the next year?

I thought about bubbles watching Senator Elizabeth Warren grill Wells Fargo Chairman and CEO John Stumpf  in Congress this week. You know this story, right? 5300 employees fired because they opened millions of  fake customer accounts to meet sales targets that boosted the company’s stock price and apparently added $200 million to Mr. Stumpf’s personal piggy bank. We do not have an exact birth time for Senator Warren, but transiting Jupiter just squared her natal Sun-Uranus conjunction, suggesting windfall opportunities and expanding her unique rebellious expression. Transiting Pluto continues to oppose her natal Venus, suggesting empowered social expression through 2017.

I thought more about Neptune and its association with chemicals when I read that Bayer and Monsanto are proposing to merge, meaning they will control 25% of the seed and pesticide market if the deal is approved. Executives defended the deal before the Senate on Tuesday.  Neptune will soon meet up with a point called the South Node,  a point suggesting what needs to be released. In classical astrology, it is thought of as a destructive influence.

I thought about Neptune, Saturn and the South Node when Avid Reader Majie made sure I did not miss the item about a massive sinkhole in Central Florida which dumped hundreds of millions of contaminated water from a fertilizer factory into an underground aquifer. This happened a couple of weeks ago. We’re finding it out about it under a Mercury-Pluto trine, suggesting news from underground.

I thought about Neptune when I read that Angelina Jolie is divorcing Brad Pitt because he smokes too much pot. You may recall that Brad Pitt is having a heavy Neptune transit suggesting things not being as they seem — or a bewildering escape. Drugs and alcohol are in the realm of Neptune.

Now I’m thinking about Mars again, pushing boundaries in Sagittarius, the sign of righteous political humor. It just squared Donald Trump’s Sun and Moon, reflecting — perhaps — the many late-night comics who made him the butt of their jokes this week,  bluntly and raucously calling out his blatant lies. Sagittarius in action.

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 9/19/2016: Sneak Peek at the Week

Good Morning!

Back in the saddle after 1) being under the weather; and 2) leaving my Celestial Calendar at my hostess’s home on last weekend’s trek West. Took it as a sign to retreat and relax — an apt strategy for Mercury in retrograde. Hopefully the new Celestial Calendar will arrive in today’s post.

The volatility of the past week’s patterns should settle down today, as the Moon is in stability-seeking Taurus as of 12:59AM ET. A rare cooperative alignment between Venus and Mars bodes well for efforts to rein in boundary-pushing action with iron-fist-in-velvet-glove directives to strike a balance. Depth of perspective, persuasive communication and dirt-digging is supported by a harmonious aspect between Mercury (mind) and Pluto (power), exact on Tuesday.

Moon will be in Gemini on Wednesday; on Thursday Mercury turns direct (1:21AM ET), and the Sun enters Libra, marking the Autumnal Equinox (10:22AM ET). On Friday, Moon will be in Cancer and Mercury will revise and reinforce whatever deep thoughts and deep doo-doo emerged at the beginning of the week, courtesy of a repeat of Tuesday’s Mercury-Pluto thing. Also on Friday: Venus leaves Libra for the emotional depths and controls of Scorpio. Those are the highlights for the week.

Moon voids: Tuesday 11:33PM -Wednesday 1:54PM ET; Friday 3:58AM ET- 4:34AM ET; Saturday 9:49PM – Sunday 9:46Am ET. Voids are apt for taking care of routine matters and rolling with whatever twists and flakes may crop up in your efforts to move forward in a straight line.

Last week’s Full Moon was an eclipse. Full Moons suggest illumination; a lunar eclipse suggests release. It fell at 24 degrees of Pisces (Moon) opposing 24 degrees of Virgo (Sun). It was squared by Mars at 23 degrees of Sagittarius, infusing already heightened, sensitive and soulful suffering with added aggression/assertion, pushing boundaries as a planet in Sagittarius needs to do.  If you have a planet or significant point around 24 degrees of Gemini, Pisces, Virgo or Sagittarius, you would be more affected by the eclipse than most. This includes Hillary Clinton, the United States of America and Donald Trump — as if that weren’t perfectly obvious from recent headlines. The Sabian Symbols for the eclipse are fascinating. For the Sun: “a flag at half mast;” for the Moon: “a purging of the priesthood.” Sabian Symbol Blain Bovee writes, “apply this degree pair with a mind to the genius of tender appreciation of the changing nature of reality….” Sure, it was that kind of week.

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 9/9/2016 & the Weekend: Jupiter in Libra; Saturn Square Neptune in Wonderland

TGIF!

…and let a super-charged stretch of planetary activity begin!

At 7:49AM ET, the First Quarter Moon between the perfection-seeking Sun in Virgo and the opinionated Moon in Sagittarius suggests a challenge or “next step” in the New Moon agenda you set last week. How to take boundary-pushing action on that righteousness could be a focus this morning, as the Moon meets up with warrior Mars — also in Sagittarius at 11:11AM ET. At 8:26PM ET, talking about it can expose conflict, as Mercury (mindset) makes a challenging aspect to the Moon. A little innovation and a humanitarian approach helps navigate the rapids. When in doubt, call a friend…then chill as the Moon goes void at 8:51PM ET, not to enter the next sign, Capricorn, until 8:55AM ET on SATURDAY.

At 9:10AM ET on Saturday we’ll have the third and final wiggy square between Saturn and Neptune. More drugs, scandal, education, extreme politics, lies, religious beliefs, etc. etc — pulling focus in the headlines. At 9:22AM ET, the Capricorn Moon — which means business like no other sign — gets an expansive lift from Jupiter. The need of a Capricorn Moon is to execute the strategic plan, increasing status. Doing so over the next few days may be a jarring process on a personal level — for better or for worse.

At 3:45AM ET on SUNDAY, Venus — happily functioning as designed in Libra, where social graces and diplomacy flow naturally — is supercharged by power-focused Pluto. If you have a planet halfway through Libra, Capricorn, Aries or Cancer, you are likely to feel the pressure of an emotional catharsis, “fish or cut bait” scenario more than most. In the news, Venus-Pluto aspects often reflect power plays, witchy-bitchy women, down and dirty financials and other news from underground. A meet-up between the Moon and Pluto at 1:36PM ET amplifies the power flow.

Tension and release — stemming from someone’s idealized thinking — dominates the early part of next week. Mercury — the way we need to think and communicate — squares off with Mars and meets up with the detail-focused Virgo Sun at 2:59PM ET and 7:40PM ET on MONDAY. On Tuesday, the Sun is squared by Mars, pushing boundaries in its need to act — or aggressively act out. The volatile energy of these patterns are building now. One way to avoid a conflict: remember that Mercury is retrograde. What you hear may not be accurate. Double check the facts before you strike back. When in doubt, be silent! It’ll sort itself out next weekend, in the aftermath of Friday’s Full Moon/lunar eclipse.

Also on MONDAY: the Capricorn Moon will be void between 6AM and 5:29PM ET. Roll with whatever twists and flakes may derail your efforts to move forward in a straight line. Focus on routine concerns. Know that whatever contentious crises crop up during the day are likely to be much ado about nothing. If you sleep in or space out on a appointment, there’s no need to panic.

And now some thoughts on Jupiter — which refers to expansion and reward. At 7:18 AM ET it left Virgo and entered Libra, where it will be until October 11, 2017.  Jupiter takes 12 years to make its way through the zodiac, staying in each sign for about a year. It was in Libra in 1993 and 2005. You are more personally affected by Jupiter’s expansive potential if you have planets in Libra, Cancer, Capricorn or Aries…and especially if you have planets and/or angles at around 13 and 21-23 degrees of those signs. Why those degrees? Because Jupiter will make contact with those degrees not once, but three times in 2017, upping the potential for that part of your horoscope’s expansion. If you do not know where your points and angles are, consider ordering an Astro-Basics Report, a.k.a, a ton of useful information for a totally reasonable price.

Libra refers to one-on-one relationships, such as marriage and business partnerships; fairness, balance, social graces, diplomacy, popularity; the scales of justice. As Libra is ruled by Venus, we can expect beauty and art to be bigger priorities over the next 13 months.  Whereas Jupiter in Virgo might seek its reward in what is perfect, principled and of service, Jupiter in Libra could be quite content with what is most pleasing to the eye. And this is a potential weak spot for Libra: accepting surface charm without looking under the rug,  checking thoroughly under the hood, etc., before making a buy. It’s Scorpio that demands actual depth and substance — and we’ll get into that experience this time next year, when Jupiter moves on.

Libra has a reputation for having difficulty making decisions. It goes back and forth, seeing both sides of a situation. There is a need to debate, valuing airy, “rational” approach over what is intuitive. On the upside, maybe we’ll see some major peace treaty negotiated. The court system should be a big focus — and it certainly will be in the United States, with one or more justices appointed to the Supreme Court.

I’m interested to see what will hit the headlines when Jupiter is at 15 degrees of Libra this December and next May and July. This was the degree of the last of the seven game-changing Uranus-Pluto squares back in March of 2015.  I expect we’ll see expanded progress on the seeds sprouting at that time, the biggest of which was the acknowledgment that climate change was real — and human behavior has no small something to do with it. A big initiative to put things back in balance...?

And now the news, briefly…because I gotta fly…literally, thanks to the miracle of jet propulsion engines.

Scandals: as I type, Wells Fargo is running banner ads all over my paid subscription to the New York Times online. Damage control ain’t working, Wells Fargo. I’m not giving up my credit union, even though you fired 5300 (!!!) employees who, it seems, opened 1.5 million fraudulent accounts and half a million credit cards since 2011…I mean seriously, wtf? Fined $185 million and that’s it? Meanwhile, in Arkansas a dozen people have been busted in a $10 million scheme to steal federal funds intended to provide food for hungry children. No word on what they did with all that money.  Gahhh!

Reflecting the aggressive potential of current planetary patterns, we are informed today that the U.S. conducted airstrikes in six countries this month.  North Korea is accused of “maniacal recklessness” after its latest nuclear test triggered an earthquake. Meanwhile, Facebook is at war with…Norway. In a surreal case of censorship (Saturn in Sagittarius vs. Neptune in Pisces), and evidence that the decision-makers at Facebook weren’t born in the 50s or 60s, Facebook suspended the account of a Norwegian writer who shared this iconic photo as one of seven that “changed the history of warfare:”

Norwegian politicians, including the Norwegian prime minister have championed the writer’s cause — prompting Facebook to delete the Norwegian prime minister’s posts. I kid you not. What if millions of Facebook users changed their profile pictures to this:

Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 9/9/2016: High-Flying, High Fashion

Good Morning!

The day is driven by the Moon in high-flying Sagittarius, needing to tell everyone and their dog what they think in very blunt and righteous terms. Sagittarius at its best is an optimist that loves a good gamble or gambol, even if that means it sometimes trips over the furniture. With the Moon in Sagittarius until 8:51PM ET on Friday, consider ways to broaden your mind. Get out in nature; treat yourself to a foreign movie or some other culture that is not your own. The sky’s the limit…at least until just before 6PM ET, when the Moon meets up with Saturn and then clashes with Neptune. Heavy and controlling on the one hand; nebulous, scandalous or visionary on the other. If your exuberant beliefs are walloped by a weird, wet blanket around Happy Hour, you’re experiencing the downside potential of a Saturn-Neptune thing.

Important Safety Tip: Mercury is still retrograde. It turns direct on September 22nd. Double check everything thrice before you hit send. If you find yourself having to repeat things you just said, because your target audience didn’t fully understand, be grateful for the opportunity to clarify. Patience and focus are your best friends when Mercury is retrograde. So is silence, especially when rumors are flying.

And now, the news….

…brought to you mostly by this year’s most-talked about planetary pattern: a series of squares between reality check Saturn and surreal Neptune. The second one was on June 17th; the third one is on Saturday.  Themes we expected to see — and have seen — in the news since last September include: refugees, borders, freedom of the press (and lack thereof), thought control, media restructuring, drugs, oils, faith-based beliefs, bubbles and other event that suggest we have fallen down a rabbit hole.

Exhibit A: an in-depth exclusive in Vanity Fair about Elizabeth Holmes, the Stanford dropout whose “revolutionary blood diagnostics company” — Theranos —   has since been exposed as a fraud. Neptune refers to blood and fraud; Saturn refers to the proverbial brick wall. Fun fact: in Ms. Holmes’ horoscope (Feb 3 1984 in Washington DC), her Neptune is at the Aries Point, suggesting Neptune themes will be especially prominent in her life.  The timing of the Vanity Fair expose coincides with a pattern in her horoscope suggesting that her “Neptune issues” are about to pull even bigger focus this month. In the Vanity Fair piece, the reporter notes that Ms. Holmes has a habit of blinking her eyes — enough to be a distraction. In October of 2012, I wrote about what that likely suggests about people with this unconscious habit.  It’s a tangible expression of Neptune’s bewildering fog at play.

Exhibit B: Creepy clowns — creeping people out —  in North and South Carolina? It’s surreal.  The bewildering potential of Saturn together with Neptune is reflected in an NYT headline about the start of Fashion Week: “Everything You Need to Know About This Crazy, Mixed- Up, (Maybe) Very Good Season.”

Speaking of Fashion Week, if you happen to be at the shows in New York and you happen to pick up a copy of Daily Front Row, you’ll see a headline “Astrologers Weigh in on Vous!”  right on the cover. Wow, right? Actually, it was one astrologer (me) and one astonishingly gifted psychic (my dear friend Peri Lyons) who were invited to speculate on the futures of six fab fashion designers. Astrologer, psychic — eh — what’s the difference? A lot.

The article reports that Peri and I both looked at the horoscopes of the designers in question. Not true.  Peri downloaded her impressions from what I call the cosmic iCloud.  I studied the horoscopes based on available data. Only one designer has an exact birth time on public record. Three have exact birth dates. One has a confirmed Sun Sign and birth year (no confirmed birth day). One has only a confirmed Sun Sign — no birth year or birth day — but fortunately your Aries astrologer loves a challenge. What’s super duper cool is that Peri and I arrived at similar conclusions about our subjects, even though our techniques are vastly different.

UPDATE: When last we heard from Elizabeth Gilbert — the author of Eat, Pray, Love — she was getting a divorce. Crushing perhaps for millions who were inspired by her relationship with her husband, as it appear to fulfill a dream of finding true love. A look at patterns on her birth date back then revealed:

Certainly we can see the potential for a break, given patterns on her birth date — July 18, 1969 in Waterbury, CT (birth time unknown). Cancer Sun; Moon in perfection-seeking Virgo. Sun conjunct Mercury. Transiting Uranus is putting pressure on Ms. Gilbert’s Sun and Mercury — likely in the form of a need for greater freedom of expression and communication.

We don’t know the exact degree of her Virgo Moon, but it may well be in a hard aspect to her Venus in Gemini, which is definitely under the streamlining influence of Saturn through this fall. Moon-Saturn and Venus-Saturn transits can be isolating and stark…but the silver lining is that out of the sense of lack or loss, a plan for advance may emerge. Finally, we see in her horoscope another pattern between Pluto and Saturn which was exact last month and in effect for most of the year. Pluto-Saturn measurements nearly always suggest hard work required under threat of loss, often with anguish. The NYT report on the split notes that there were hints months ago that this decision was not a sudden move.

Yesterday Ms. Gilbert revealed that her marriage ended when she fell in love with her best friend — a woman — who has been diagnosed with incurable cancer. So now we have a context for the potential suggested by current planetary patterns in her horoscope. Sudden upsets, a need for freedom — unconventional as it may seem, and an ambition realized in the face of something undeniably heavy. She is, as she writes on her Facebook page, “exactly where she is supposed to be.”
