Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 7/9/2013: Rise and Shine

What are the signs Mercury (communication, transportation) might be retrograde (delays and other tech/transport snafus) AND the Moon might be void of course (challenges moving forward in a straight line; unexpected twists and detours)? Well, if you happen to be stuck on the F train (of course it would be the F) for well over an hour, thanks to “heavy traffic volume” and “signal malfunctions”, you might wonder if one or both patterns were in effect. And in fact, both were. Thank God for a copy of Pride and Prejudice on  my iPad…and yes, both patterns were also in effect for most of the day on Saturday, as noted in that forecast.

As of 6:48AM ET, Moon enters Leo, where it needs to shine. Make room for the kings and drama queens; they’re sure to put on a jolly good show. We have an exact hook-up between mental Mercury and the Sun at 2:41PM ET, suggesting an idealistic frame of mind. However, at 4:27PM ET, the sunny Leo Moon may howl in regal indignation over some wet blanket or other limitation imposed by a challenge from stern, patriarchal Saturn. Keep an eye on the Texas State Legislature.

Yesterday I think I mentioned that Mars, planet of action, was at the end of Gemini — 26 degrees, to be exact. And this area of the zodiac is a sensitive one in the horoscope of Edward Snowden. So it was interesting that the second part of a videotaped interview was released.  One of the topics discussed is privacy (or lack thereof) and Facebook.  Also going to press yesterday: this helpful article entitled “If You’ve Ever Posted Anything Embarrassing on Facebook, Now is the Time to Hide It“. Yes, Facebook has a new search function — they told us it was coming months ago — and it is going to make it ever so much easier for everyone you don’t know to find out everything you’ve ever posted in to your community of Facebook friends, neatly catalogued and indexed for their convenience.

Another person with a sensitivity to planets in the end degrees of Gemini is Bradley Manning. No less than four planets in his horoscope — all at the end of Sagittarius — were recently opposed by the Sun, Jupiter and now Mars in late Gemini. Yesterday Mars (action, will) opposed Manning’s natal Uranus (freedom, individuation); and thus began the defense’s case in his trial.  But wait, there’s more: Julian Assange’s horoscope is also sensitive to planets transiting the last degrees of Gemini. His Venus and Pluto are currently being provoked by willful Mars, we’ll see what develops as the week progresses.

All three of these men — Assange, Manning and Snowden — have Moon in Scorpio, either currently affected or soon to be affected by Saturn (see yesterday’s forecast for a bit about what we can expect when Saturn makes contact with a planet in a horoscope).  In Assange’s case, he also has two planets currently affected by the empowering and/or liberating Uranus-Pluto square. I would not be surprised if his home and public status change by mid-2014.

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 7/8/2013: Mind the Void; New Moon in Cancer

Happy Monday!  Have you noticed that the  Moon went void at 7:44AM ET, where it will drift aimlessly until 6:48AM ET Tuesday? If you extended your vacation by one extra day, good for you! Otherwise, take care of what is routine today; enjoy a bit of wandering and do not stress out over any crises that arise. They are likely much ado about nothing. Certainly that was the case for Rick Perry, who had everyone all abuzz for about five minutes when he announced over the weekend that he was making a big announcement…today…during an all-day Moon void.  And what was the big news? That he is not running for re-election. Watch this space for further…oh…was that a squirrel I saw out the window? We’ll get this work week started on Tuesday.  The only other void you need to plan for is on Thursday from 3:54PM – 6:12PM ET — no big deal.

The New Moon in  Cancer officially began today at 3:14AM ET, offering us an opportunity to re-set  intentions and goals for the next lunar cycle.  Around the 15th, on the First Quarter Moon, we can expect a challenge to those goals, with appropriate adjustments made. At the time of the Full Moon on the 22nd (which is another Supermoon & thus more potent than the usual Full Moon), we can expect illumination on the success or failure of our goals for the cycle. If we succeeded, we can consciously release our success into our reality; if we failed, we let go of whatever did not work. After the Third Quarter Moon on the 29th, we can review our achievements, tie up loose ends and get ready to begin another New Moon on August 6th.

This New Moon occurs at 17 degrees of Cancer and it is in a loose, separating alignment with the status quo-disrupting Pluto and Uranus. Moon is generally very happy to be in Cancer, the sign it rules. In Cancer, the Moon seeks to fulfill a need for emotional/homeland security; this month we can expect that need to be challenged by other needs for freedom (Uranus) and/or power (Pluto) that are in the recent past. Got that?

In the New Moon chart, mental Mercury is conjunct the Sun and Moon, suggesting this month will be notable for an intensely emotional/intuitive approach in mindset and communication, marked by idealism. Given that Mercury is retrograde, we can expect plenty of that thinking to be concerned with reviewing issues from the past (a positive potential of Mercury retrograde), or flat-out sloppy and misinformed (a downside potential of Mercury retrograde). An absolutely perfect Mercury retrograde activity was described in this article from the Sunday NYT — about a summer camp for grown-ups: no cell phones or computers of any kind; not even your real name is used on these true “get-away-from-it all” REtreats. I highly recommend you make some serious down time for yourself between now and the end of July — and if I disappear for a day or two this month, now you will know why.

Venus, referring to social expression – arts, women, money — is in a lovely trine to rebel Uranus, encouraging us to play outside of the norm of our usual social haunts. Mars, symbolizing our need for action, is at the tail end of Gemini, fast approaching the Aries Point and expansive Jupiter in Cancer (on the 13th and 21st, respectively); we can expect big, bold moves — of a physical kind and also those that seek to preserve security. By the end of the month, Mars will engage with the Uranus-Pluto square, and this is when we can expect more jarring headlines, likely involving forceful, even violent efforts (the downside) and technological breakthroughs (upside).

Meanwhile, Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune — in the water signs of Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces — continue on in a tricky Grand Trine pattern. I say tricky because on the one hand, this “law unto itself” pattern can accomplish a lot. Jupiter and Saturn working well together can be great for business. Throw in nebulous Neptune and you have the potential for dreams to become real (the potential upside). But what kind of dreams?  This heavy emphasis on water — including the Sun, Moon, Mercury (and soon, Mars) favors the emotional/intuitive over the rational, as in actions stemming from gut feelings — not the logical mind. And the potential downside of any Neptune influence is a blanket of fog/illusion/delusion. Think about that, before you react emotionally to news or other communication.

The Sabian Symbol for the New Moon at 17 Cancer continues the theme of knowledge we had for last month’s New Moon.  Last month, the symbol was “a large archaic volume reveals a traditional wisdom”, which coincided with The Guardian and the Washington Post reporting that private contractors working for US intelligence agencies were capturing communication logs and hacking into computers all over the world, OK’d by a secret surveillance court (FISA) and allegedly in violation of the 4th Amendment of the US Constitution. Who should have access to such a “large volume…of wisdom”?  That’s a good question.   The symbol for 17 Cancer — this month’s lunation —  is “the germ grows into knowledge and life”. Turning once again to Sabian Symbol guru Blain Bovee for insight, we are advised to consider ideas and projects at a very tender, vulnerable stage — as seedlings. Bovee suggests that a germ of an idea is something to be tended carefully — perhaps with a certain reserve — until it can fully blossom. Certainly many seeds can be planted at this time. You will feel this “germination potential” more than most if you have a point or planet at 17 degrees of Cancer, Libra, Capricorn or Aries.

Another significant pattern of this New Moon is Saturn being stationary direct at 1:12AM ET.  What does that mean? Avid readers of this forecast know that Saturn refers to structure, authority, ambition and necessary controls. Projects involving these themes that have been held back during Saturn’s retrograde, which began on February 18, may now begin to move forward…but .slooowly.  Why slowly? Because right now Saturn is stationary! It will begin to pick up speed and move forward over the next few weeks. Patience, lest ye be frustrated even further by trickster Mercury retrograde in your haste to move forward. In your own personal world, you are feeling the weight or urgency of Saturn’s move forward if you have a planet around five degrees of Scorpio, Aquarius, Leo and Taurus. Just ask Liz Cheney, now exploring a Senate run in Wyoming, or so this story suggests. Or Eliot Spitzer, the former governor of New York who resigned  in 2008 after his association with certain prostitutes was revealed. He’s just announced a run for public office in New York.

Ms. Cheney (7/28/1966 — time unknown) would be feeling Saturn’s push on her idealistic Sun-Mercury conjunction at 5-6 Leo. She has Venus at 8 Cancer and Mars at 11 Cancer; both are being supercharged by the Uranus-Pluto square. We would expect assertive action and social expression that could be empowering, forceful, transformational, liberating and/or a disruption of the status quo. Certainly there would be opportunities to gain prominence. And — lucky Liz — with her natal Jupiter at 18 Cancer and the Sun at 5 Leo, she could anticipate many favorable opportunities for expansion over the next 12 months.  Plus, at 46, she’s at an age when — astro-logically speaking — she could be getting serious about a new development in her career. In Spitzer’s case (horoscope here; time unknown), transiting Saturn is right on top of his natal Neptune at 4 Scorpio  and square his charismatic Venus-Mars conjunction  at 4-5 Leo. Other aspects also suggest a need to go public with an ambition at this time. There’s likely more going on — which we would see if we had birth times…coincidence or conspiracy?

Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday-Saturday 7/4-6/2013: State of Independence?

Happy 4th of July!

As of 5:22AM ET, Moon entered information junkie Gemini, suggesting a driving need for communication, diversification and entertainment over the next few days. Exact planetary patterns are relatively light; we are at the end of the lunar cycle; Mercury is very much retrograde. It’s a perfect time to relax and review the progress you made on your New Moon intentions. Wrap things up and contemplate your  To-Do List for the next New Moon, which occurs at 3:14 AM ET on Monday — in Cancer. The next lunar cycle begins on the day that Saturn — planet of structure and discipline — turns direct after almost five months of being retrograde; that is significant (stay tuned).

Today we are processing the fallout of the exact square between the Sun and rebel Uranus at 2:22AM ET. A challenge between the clever Moon and nebulous Neptune at 3:50PM ET, followed by a communicative and pleasant connection between Moon and loving Venus (in drama queen Leo) just before midnight suggests a day of dreamy buzz. Artists, healers and visionaries — especially those near a podium — could really dig it.

Friday’s patterns are even lighter. The need for information continues, supported in the early AM by flash of insight, courtesy of technogeek Uranus. And…that’s it. Moon goes void of course on Saturday at 8:30AM on a provocative verbal hook-up with aggressive Mars. Be mindful of that aspect if you are considering getting into an argument or behind the wheel of a car. The ten-hour Moon void, combined with Mercury retrograde, increases the probability for communication and transportation snafus.

At 6:14PM ET on Saturday, Moon enters Cancer, suggesting a need to focus on home, family, Mom and whatever makes us feel emotionally secure. Indulgence and exuberance is a strong potential for the evening, courtesy of a hook-up between Moon and Jupiter at 11:21PM ET.  Consider socializing outside your usual haunts for the next couple of days. An easy connection between Venus (arts, women, money) and unconventional Uranus (exact Sunday around 8PM) suggests profit and enjoyment can be found off the beaten path.

And now, the news…in astro-logical perspective. But first, a re-cap of two planetary patterns pulling big focus right now:

1) the on-going square between rebel Uranus in me-me-me firebrand Aries and transformational Pluto in “the Establishment” Capricorn. This brings back themes of revolution that were hot in the mid-60s and the mid-30s. We can expect battles for equality and freedom, as well as an exposure of what is rotten and decayed in our infrastructure. When Uranus and Pluto clash, history shows we can expect the status quo to be disrupted and/or overturned. This pattern is in effect until early 2016.

2) a Grand Trine among Jupiter (expansion, reward, beliefs of the masses) in Cancer (homeland), Saturn (necessary controls, business, patriarchy) in Scorpio (shared resources, including sexual energy and its consequences; debt — karmic and/or financial; death), Neptune (diffusion, delusion, dissolution; the dream) in Pisces (empathy, at-one-ment). So what’s a Grand Trine, other than a pattern that looks like an equilateral triangle? As I learned from Noel Tyl, in an individual horoscope, a Grand Trine suggests a defensive patterns of self-containment. It doesn’t need anything from anybody; abundance is likely easy to manifest or act “as if”. I’ve read many times that Grand Trines are considered “lucky”; I’ve also read that they are often seen in the horoscope of serial killers. Perhaps the luck of a Grand Trine entity happens because it refuses to be bound by the constraints of law; it does what it wants and assumes it will be successful. It operates as “a law unto itself”.

Which brings me to Egypt. As you may have heard, with the Sun engaged with the Uranus-Pluto square, Egypt’s president was arrested and deposed, and the Constitution was suspended. But despite millions of Egyptians protesting in the streets, the president was not dragged out of his home by a  mob of average citizens. He was deposed by the military. And in light of the “law unto itself” Grand Trine, it was intriguing to see this op-ed on the Egyptian military’s agenda in this morning’s paper. Which led me to wonder about other organizations in other nations that may have power, influence and privilege, but no accountability or visibility as governing authorities. Here’s another op-ed by an average citizen, defending the military’s actions. Might we expect more power plays as July continues?

In your own personal world, if you have a planet or angle around 4-7 degrees of any sign, it’s making contact with this Grand Water Trine. Wherever that point falls in your horoscope is where you may make strong advancements, or download a treasure trove of information and insight, courtesy of your supercharged intuition. If the affected point is in Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius, the pressure for advancement, stemming from a feeling of lack, may be especially strong.

Back to the news. In Bolivia, President Evo Morales has returned home after his unplanned layover in Vienna, allegedly because his plane was denied access to airspace over France, Spain and Portugal. Why? Because it was rumored that Edward Snowden was on board — and naturally all of this meshuga happened in a void of course Moon and Mercury retrograde. Rumors do tend to fly under these conditions; really, dear Readers, do not take everything you hear at face value. Dig for details. Also be advised that efforts to move forward in a straight line are often subject to unexpected twists and delays. I rest my case.

Meanwhile, Jupiter (liver) at the Aries Point (prominence) was reflected in yet another headline which offers hope for those who may one day need a transplant. Last, but not least — a bit of news from this week’s T-square among Uranus (revelation; outer space) square Pluto (Pluto) square Sun (identity): two of Pluto’s moons have now been named. Huzzah!

Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 7/2/2013: Mooooooon in Taurus & Saturn Square Venus in the News

I don’t know about you, but as soon as the Moon entered Taurus yesterday at 5:43PM ET, it was as if the clutch finally engaged. No more listless drifting; suddenly, tangible projects with real deadlines landed on my plate, and that has been the focus for the past 16 hours. You? The Moon functions well in Taurus, where it seeks to build or preserve material comfort and security. The Moon is calmer in Taurus;  there is less impetus to change.  At 1:52PM ET, an easy connection to Moon from Pluto adds depth and perspective to the tasks at hand, supported by a balancing support from the emotional security-preserving Cancer Sun.  A productive conversation reviewing the past or with someone from the past? Certainly said conversation ought to be centered around good food, wine and other physical pleasures.

Get it off your desk today; the Moon will be void of course at 11:51AM ET…not to enter Gemini until Thursday at 5:22AM ET. This Wednesday void may be especially restless, given rebel Uranus about to challenge the sensitive Cancer Sun at 2:22AM on Thursday. Be prepared for an eccentric individual to challenge the security of home and family. What do we want? Freedom! When do we want it? Now! So…like that. I hope you will be free to wander through the day on Wednesday — being at work will likely feel like a literal drag…

And now, the news. I have no shortage of headlines to share reflecting yesterday’s especially potent square between stern, patriarchal, wet blanket Saturn in Scorpio to Venus (social expression, women, art,  money)  in sunny Leo. Women and cold, hard cash were the subject of this New York Times op-ed about the new economy of prostitution.  Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton is  been slapped with a lawsuit allegedly theft of intellectual property by an irate NYT photographer. Meanwhile, the good folks at CNBC reported the buzz about a curious state of being known as the “bitchy resting face”.  Because this news is important in the world of finance, doncha know.

In other news,  someone finally got around to cutting off the disability benefits paid to about 600 retired NY transportation at a cost of $2 million/month  — this was a fraud scheme uncovered some years ago; the retirees are not disabled. Also getting cut off: US soldiers in the Middle East can no longer read The Guardian, the UK paper that broke the Edward Snowden story, and New York ‘art groups’ are anxious about losing valuable support when zillionaire Mayor Mike Bloomberg leaves office this fall. And let’s not forget the unemployed, Paul Krugman reminds us, referring to a particularly stingy situation in North Carolina.

In Kentucky, Democrat Alison Grimes (November 23 1978 in Maysville, KY) announced she would run against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in 2014; she declared her ambition with transiting Saturn on her natal Venus in Scorpio. She probably has Moon and Saturn conjunct in Virgo (same pattern as Governor Rick Perry — how intriguing) which are both square Mars — definitely “Women of Steel” material…as are the three women justices on the US Supreme Court; here’s a profile that just hit the NYT homepage.

Coincidence or conspiracy?

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 7/1/2013: The Big Chill

If you were hoping this week would start with a hug and cute stuffed bunny rabbit,  I would not count on it. Please refer to the forecast posted Saturday for thoughts about what we can expect today. To recap: we’ve got a me-me-me Aries Moon, void as of 2:43AM ET until 5:43PM ET, suggesting we do our best to chill out through whatever fiery, self-absorbed crisis lands on our collective plates. Adding fuel to the fire: the volatile Uranus-Pluto square puts pressure on the maternal/homeland Cancer Sun all week, with exact hits today (from Pluto at 8:03PM ET) and Thursday (from rebel Uranus at 2:22AM ET).

Last, but hardly least, a chilly square between Saturn in karmic debt Scorpio and Venus in regal Leo suggests hardcore realities must be faced in matters of women, money, beauty and affection. Is that why the front page of the NYT homepage has a sobering article on the outrageous expense of childbirth in the United States? It should come as no surprise that it costs more to have a child here than in anywhere else in the world…but still, the numbers are staggering.  Another stingy, rotten headline, this one involving money:  many workers are now being paid with debit cards instead of checks, and they have to pay a fee every time they use the card to withdraw their wages. The nerve! Can an article about PayPal’s outrageous service fees be far behind? Gosh, I hope so.

Meanwhile, many eyes will be on Austin today at 2PM, as Rick Perry’s “special” session of the Texas legislature attempts to shut down 37 of the 42 women’s health care clinics that also provide abortion services. It is fascinating to see in Governor Perry’s horoscope an exact conjunction between stern Saturn and the Moon in prissy, perfectionist Virgo opposing the Sun in sensitive Pisces. That can be harsh. Additionally, we note that transiting Saturn  Venus square is exactly squaring and opposing Perry’s Venus in Aquarius, so we expect that he personally is dealing with issues of control regarding women, social expression, money, etc. Sigh.

Other signs of volatility and/or revolution at the start of this tumultuous week include continued  uprisings in  Egypt, violence in  Tanzania, fires in  Arizona,   an empowered change of status in Croatia, protests in Hong Kong and strikes (a Mercury retrograde tradition) in Oakland.

When the Moon enters Taurus at 5:43PM ET, it ushers in a slower pace, as slow as things can be with the drumbeats of revolution as background music. Moon will be void of course again on Wednesday at 11:51AM ET until 5:22AM on Thursday (start your 4th of July break early)…and from 8:30AM ET to 6:14PM ET on Saturday (no shopping sprees, if you please).

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 6/28/2013 and the Weekend: Women of Steel

TGIF…as the Pisces Moon goes void at 8:16PM ET with a long sigh. Enjoy the relative chill, as things will likely be all fired up when the Moon enters me-me-me Aries at 9:06AM ET on Saturday. Upsets, outbursts and power plays will likely become more prominent by Sunday, as we approach the First Quarter Moon at 12:53AM ET. A clash between the needs of the pioneering individual and the motherland or maybe just Mom is suggested, especially with the feisty Aries Moon being challenged by rebel Uranus and ruthless Pluto at 8:02AM ET and 4:10AM ET, respectively. If you’re not engaged in a feisty confrontation, you can have a fine time boldly going where no one has gone before.

Be advised that the Moon will be void of course for most of the business day on Monday — from 2:48AM ET until 5:43PM ET.  This is a power-packed day, with plenty of folks just dying to act impulsively and aggressively, even though the Moon void suggests it may all be for naught. If you’re on vacation this week, lucky you. I expect we’ll see an encore presentation of the volatility we experienced the last week of March, as the Sun is challenged by — oh, you knew this was coming — the Pluto-Uranus square.  Women are especially vulnerable to assaults on their dignity by as assortment of control freaks, as reflected by a challenge to Venus (women) in regal Leo by Saturn (patriarchy) in Scorpio. On the plus side, this tough pattern presents an opportunity for some women to show the world what kind of steely stuff they are made of. And here I would be thinking of women like Rep.  Tammy Duckworth — seen here taking no crap whatsoever from an IRS contractor — and Wendy Davis, whose awesome stamina was discussed in earlier this week.

Stay tuned for more news analysis from an astro-logical point of view…and thank you for reading the forecast!

Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 6/27/2013: Venus in Leo

Moon got into gear after yesterday’s all-day void at 4:32AM ET, moving into dreamy, sensitive Pisces. Oh, how I did not want to get out of bed this morning, aided and abetted by Mercury’s retrograde move yesterday. Rest and relaxation should be on your schedule during the next few weeks. That’s my story and I’m sticking with it.

This intuitive Moon spends the day engaging with the lingering Grand Water Trine among Sun, Saturn and Neptune, providing opportunities for REstructuring and REvising with a visionary flair. That is the plus side. The downside may be an emotional closed-circuitry more appropriate for a Mercury retrograde REtreat than for clear and open communication, particularly around lunchtime ET when the Moon conjoins nebulous Neptune. You may be dealing with a few dreamy space cases today, including yourself.

Also around lunchtime — 1:03PM ET — Venus leaves Cancer for drama queen Leo, invigorating social expression with royal edicts and luxurious fun until July 22nd.

Meanwhile, I was pleased to see the two SCOTUS decisions on gay marriage manifest as predicted: DOMA struck down; Prop. 8 dead; but no real change at all on the issue of whether a ban on same sex marriage is unconstitutional. For now, less-evolved legislatures may continue to pass less-evolved laws.

In other news, the long Moon void and Mercury retrograde wreaked havoc at Wimbledon. Moon voids are often reflected by surprise upsets favoring the underdog, and there was no shortage of top-seeded players suffering stunning defeats on “one of the strangest days” in the history of the tournament . How will the Moon void drive the action at 2PM on July 1st in Austin, you may wonder. That’s when Governor Rick Perry has scheduled a special session of the Texas legislature in an effort to pass that draconian anti-women’s health bill…the one that was ruled moot after Wendy Davis’ marathon filibuster blocked it. Well, the general rule of voids is “no consequence” for actions taken. But mark my words, the horoscope for that day and time suggests an act of war — against women — with patriarchal Saturn in Scorpio exactly squaring Venus (women). And the status-quo disrupting Uranus-Pluto square falls on the angles of the horoscope. Hmmm….

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 6/26/2013: Mercury Retrograde; Ain’t it Grand?

This should be interesting. Moon in unconventional Aquarius goes void of course at 9:08AM ET, on a smooth connection from Mars in glib, multi-tasking Gemini, where it can excel at killing two birds with one stone. At that same moment, mental Mercury, planet of mindset, communication, travel and electronic gizmos, goes retrograde at 24 Cancer, possibly screwing up said communications whilst giving us a chance to review whatever plans we’ve thought out since the last retrograde in February. And yet…

…the other pattern of note today is a Grand Water Trine among stern Saturn in nitty-gritty Scorpio, empathic, dreamy Neptune in soulful Pisces and fueled by the Sun in home-and-family Cancer. This is a powerful pattern that facilitates solid structures based on genuine insight and compassion, which leaves me cautiously optimistic that the two decisions on marriage equality we are expecting from the Supreme Court will declare DOMA unconstitutional and leave California’s currently-dead Prop. 8 on a slab in the morgue…even though it may allow states to decide what level of  consciousness– evolved or unevolved —  they would like their laws to reflect. Here is helpful legal analysis of the two cases that are being decided today. My sense of caution is because of the Moon being void of course, a condition often reflected by upsets, surprise twists and victories in favor of the underdog, but also actions that end up being of no consequence. In your own personal world, you’ll be more impacted by the stabilizing energy of the Grand Water Trine if you have a planet or angle around 4-5 degrees of any sign.

The Sabian Symbol for Mercury retrograde at 24 Cancer seems daunting at first: “a woman and two men on a bit of sunlit land facing south.”  Huh? Thank goodness Blain Bovee wrote a book to help us figure this out. This is an image of a classic love triangle, suggesting that a choice between two perhaps worthy but different options must be made. The “sunlit land” is the issue highlighted that must be decided. For general tips on how to handle Mercury retrograde, a condition many curse when they really shouldn’t, please look here.

In other news, it was fascinating to note the slap in the face to 50 years of civil rights was handed down by the Supremes on that stern “wet blanket” Saturn-Moon square I wrote about yesterday. After the decision was announced, I could not help but think of the 2005 Citigroup memo on plutonomy  and wonder if there might be a connection…Mercury in Cancer does love a good conspiracy theory….but if you’ve never heard of this document, it’s a page-turner. Meanwhile…not only is Texas fast-tracking its shiny new voter-ID law (see link above), but it’s also preparing to execute its 500th inmate on Death Row. It won’t, however, be closing all but five of its abortion clinics — at least not today —  thanks to a nearly 13-hour filibuster by one pioneering rebel (how very Uranus in Aries) against the Establishment. You’ll want to keep an eye on Wendy Davis, whose stubborn and determined Mars-Saturn opposition squaring her Taurus Sun is not to be messed with. Peace out.

Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 6/25/2013: Jupiter in Cancer; Edward Snowden

Moon entered Aquarius as of 3:09AM ET, seeking to make a friendly connection and be of social significance. We can expect a challenge — or a stubborn clash — perhaps from someone with a ruthless authoritarian agenda this morning, as stern Saturn in Scorpio squares the Moon. Who’s raining on your parade now? This is the only exact aspect we have today until just before midnight, when Moon makes a communicative connection to unconventional Uranus (which rules Aquarius). Think outside the box.

Also of note: Jupiter, which needs to expand whatever it touches, leaves fickle, airy, information overload Gemini tonight at 9:40PM ET, where it’s been for about a year. It’ll plunge into the watery, emotional and financial security-seeking Cancer, which should make all of you Crabs very happy. You’re about to experience a boost of expansive, optimistic energy to your natal Sun, which only happens once every 12 years. Be alert for opportunities to expand your horizons, with the feeling of having the wind at your back. This includes the United States, which is also a Cancer — with Jupiter and Venus in early Cancer, too. As I posted earlier, it’s hard to imagine feeling less than prosperous under such transits — at least in the short term.

Jupiter refers to “big picture” thinking, law, academia, broadcasting, publishing, religion, travel, etc. — so we can expect those areas to have a Cancerian focus for the next 12 months. What does Cancer care about? For starters: food, mothering, money, home, family,  emotional security and my country — right or wrong.

For the past week Jupiter has been at the Aries Point, which avid readers know is 0 degrees (the beginning) of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. Any planet at the Aries Point needs to be noticed in a big way, and isn’t it interesting that in the news we have seen a number of Jupiter-themed stories gaining prominence? Jupiter refers to the law and the courts, and we are expecting a number of high profile cases to be decided this week. Here’s one that just came down on affirmative action. Here’s another — this one upholding the civil rights of a transgender child.  Jupiter also refers to the liver and the pancreas — check out this link for a breakthrough on the treatment of diabetes. As noted, Jupiter refers to publishing, and all last week, the publishing of information (Gemini) has certainly been prominent in the news.

Get it off your desk today, as not only will the Moon be void of course ALL DAY from 9:06AM ET – 4:32AM ET Thursday, but Mercury will be turning retrograde as well. BACK UP YOUR COMPUTERS NOW!! I don’t know about you, but I noted more than the usual communication snafus and traffic jams last week, and I am thinking that this Mercury retrograde period (June 26th – July 20th) will try our patience more than most. Certainly this Moon void tomorrow is likely to offer plenty of challenges to your patience, as in all that hard work you’re going to do may end up going nowhere. Chill if you can.

Right. Edward Snowden. Because a reader asked for it in an email I received yesterday, which also contained the question, “What will happen to Snowden during Mercury retrograde”? I ran a chart for the time I received the question, and the suggestion was that it too soon to tell. Fascinatingly, nebulous Neptune was sitting exactly at the top of the chart, suggesting a fog of mystery/illusion/confusion. And as of yesterday afternoon, he has “disappeared”.

We now have an official birth time for Snowden and thus an accurate horoscope. Born Jun 21, 1983 at 4:42AM in Elizabeth City, NC, Snowden is a Gemini with the Sun at 29 degreess of Gemini, which places it at — very good, class — the Aries Point. Immediately we expect he will gain prominence in life, probably for just being who he is. This Sun is in the First House of ego identity (he’s a “personality”) and it rules the 4th House, which refers to the homeland. Indeed. The Moon is in Scorpio, in the 6th House, ruling the 2nd and 3rd, suggesting a need to be of service, a need for communication and a concern with worth/assets,  as it also seeks to be of depth and substance, through knowledge which affords power and control.  A potentially self-indulgent square to the Moon from Venus in regal Leo suggests a need for drama in social expression.

The overall layout of planets in this horoscope suggests a need for a defensive posture. Why? We’d have to have a chat with Edward about his childhood, and I am not going to write about those speculations now. I am fascinated to note another defensive structure: a Air Grand Trine involving a Sun-Mars conjunction…trine to Saturn-Pluto in late Libra…trine to the Aquarius MC. This suggests a closed circuitry involving the intellect, likely experienced by others as elitism expressed as a readiness to dismiss what anyone else thinks or has to say. Would you believe the United States has a similar pattern in its horoscope?

Astrologer Linda Goodman observed that both Gemini and Scorpio like to wear masks, which is one reason they may be so fascinated with each other. And perhaps in an individual horoscope, an emphasis on these two signs may produce a fascination with the self. Snowden’s Ascendant is also Gemini, suggesting a need to be seen as someone who is clever, intense, diversified and informed. Mercury, which rules Gemini and thus Snowden’s Ascendant, is well-placed in Gemini and is conjunct the Ascendant. It’s in the 12th house, not the 1st, suggesting a need for communication and a mindset that has a behind-the-scenes or insider’s perspective. Brilliance, an aptitude for technology and restlessness, nerves and a need for intellectual risks are suggested by a strong opposition to Mercury/ASC from Uranus and expansive Jupiter in high-flying, righteous, opinionated Sagittarius. A need for risk and excitement in relationship/vocation, as well as a need to publish are suggested by patterns involving Snowden’s Sun/Moon midpoint.

Back to Snowden’s Gemini Sun. It is augmented by a conjunction from Mars and the nodal axis. This suggests he needs to be a firebrand, trumpeting a social cause, connecting with the public. This conjunction is opposed by nebulous Neptune in the 7th house, which is reflected by his “man of mystery” persona. In the 7th, Neptune suggests a need to make sacrifices in relationship, not unlike those of a martyr. Neptune in touch with Mars offers charisma, glamour, magnetism. It can also be dreamy, visionary, delusional or fanatical. Again — look no further than the horoscope of the United States for a strong Mars-Neptune connection, reflected in our collective need for “the American Dream”….and other illusions we may present to the world. It is interesting to note that our current and last two presidents have strong Neptunes in their horoscopes. Last week, we talk about Bill Clinton’s Mars-Neptune patterns. In George W. Bush’s horoscope, we have either a weak Sun-Neptune square or Neptune is simply running away with the persona. Barack Obama has a definite Sun-Neptune square in his horoscope. How often have people wondered who he really is and what he really stands for? Neptune tends to dissolve whatever it touches. Neptune in touch with Sun, suggests a bewildering and/or idealized sense of identity….and plenty of pixiedust.

There’s more to write on Snowden, so stay tuned. And have a fabulous day!

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 6/24/2013: Capricorn Super Moon & Fallout

On Sunday at 4:08AM ET, Moon entered the enterprising sign of Capricorn, where it needs — as I learned from  astrologer Noel Tyl — to Make Things Happen. Three and a half hours later, that Moon waxed full at 3 degrees of Capricorn, very close to the prominent Aries Point. Avid readers of this forecast will recall that the Aries Point corresponds to the solstice and equinox points: 0 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. Perhaps that’s why everyone and their dog was talking about this Full Moon being a Super Moon, as if it was a completely new and rare phenomenon, which it is not. They happen every year and more than once. Astrologer Richard Nolle coined the term”SuperMoon” in 1979 — here’s his explanation of what can be expected when the Moon is closerthanthis to Earth. Still, it is pretty darn awesome that an awareness of Something Planetary is being reflected so strongly by the general public. It bodes well for astrologers…. : )

You can charge ahead with a few caveats today, using the proactive energy of the Capricorn Moon to fuel your ambition. Be aware, however, that communications are subject to more than the usual snafus, given that Mercury is about to turn retrograde on Wednesday. Back to today: as evening approaches, the potential for a clash between an idealistic wish for emotional comfort and security may be smacked down by impersonal authority — or someone insisting on following the company policy or party line, as mental Mercury opposes the Moon at 4:20PM ET. We’ll get a break in the action as the Moon goes void at 10:24PM ET, not to enter the next sign, Aquarius, until 3:26AM ET. Take the evening off!

Now, about that Super Moon. The Full Moon was exact at Sunday 7:32AM ET at 3 degrees of Capricorn. We would have expected an easy flow of communication for transcendent/spiritual/healing purposes, especially with persons and/or institutions of authority. We would have expected a stunning upset and/or power play referring to an enterprising ambition, as the Moon was challenged by ruthless Pluto and rebel Uranus in the evening hours, ET time.  I’d argue that one reflection of these patterns was daredevil Nik Wallenda’s successful tightrope walk across the (sort of) Grand Canyon, notable for Wallenda’s constant state of audible prayer. Talk about an easy flow of communication with a higher authority!

We would have expected illumination and/or release on your New Moon agenda (can you remember what that was on June 8th), which was reflected in the Sabian Symbol for 19 degrees of Gemini: “a large archaic volume reveals a traditional wisdom”. In other words, volumes and volumes of data collected and stored, reflecting the consciousness and value systems of the people collecting it.  And that is one big question with a Book of Secrets or Akashic Records or any such text: who is deemed wise and/or responsible enough to be privy to the knowledge contained therein. Everyone? High priests and priestesses? Governments and corporations? Knowledge is a powerful thing, with compelling and sometimes terrible and perhaps even unjust consequences, as anyone who has read the Book of Genesis can tell you.

Given the above Sabian Symbol, one poster child for this lunar cycle has to be Edward Snowden, the former Booz Allen systems analyst who journeyed to Hong Kong, where he met with reporters from the UK paper The Guardian and informed the entire Free World what sort of data private contractors like Booz Allen have been collecting, paid for by US taxpayer dollars.   It is fascinating that the Full Moon coincided with another bold move in this saga,  and so are its Sabian Symbols. For the Sun at 3 degrees of Cancer: “a man bundled up in fur, leading a shaggy deer”. For the Moon at 3 degrees of Capricorn:  (for the Sun at 3 Cancer) and “the human soul receptive to growth and understanding” (3 Capricorn).

I wish I could quote all four paragraphs Sabian Symbol guru Blain Bovee has penned about these  intriguing symbols; as always, I recommend you get his book.  But briefly, for the man bundled up in fur (3 Cancer), Bovee suggests “an image of rugged individuality in a cold environment”;  the “human soul” image of 3 Capricorn is self-explanatory.  One of these symbols is closed/defensive; the other is open and receptive, and therein lies the polarity/opposition suggested by any Full Moon.  In your own personal world, Bovee suggests these symbols may manifest as an awareness of  “creative potentials that cook within” or as a sense of personal identity that is at once between the perils of experience (life’s harsh realities) and the soul (who you are in spite of said external realities). Bottom line: in light of these challenging — perhaps even perilous — times, we are being presented with an opportunity for a greater understanding and appreciation of what really and truly ties us all together.
