"The reading was a partnership between the two of us; she did not simply recite planetary signs and meanings, but had a conversation with me, continually asking what I made of what she saw, and what I thought I could do to change the things I want to change.

When the names of other people in my life came up, she quickly looked up their charts on her computer and commented on their roles in my life -- painting a fuller picture of where I was, where I wanted to go, and how I could get there.

What was impressive was that Elisabeth took all the planets, people, and situations that made up my life and created a context for them all that was positive, hopeful, and exciting!

She has a lovely personality, a sharp wit, and a gift for astrological interpretation."

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 5/13 and the Weekend

Enjoy the last few days of impulsive thoughts and social expression. Mercury (mind, communication) and Venus (social expression) leave the sign of Aries on Sunday evening, so you can expect a “wobble” — a day or two to shift into the new gear. See? Mercury and Venus are STILL in Aries, and I’m getting ahead of myself. That’s what Aries does. Let’s talk about the forecast for today, Friday.
Moon went void at 10:52PM on Thursday…entering the people-pleasing sign of Libra at 11:56AM EST on Friday. Regular readers of this forecast know that the Moon void suggests a slow start to the morning or a twist to your routine: an unusual commute,  a flaky AM meeting — or no meeting at all; or an alarm clock that does not function as designed.

No exact aspects among the planets until a little jolt from rebel Uranus at 5:20PM EST that launches happy hour on the East Coast. Perhaps some juicy revelations or jealousy will crop up later in the evening, thanks to a challenge to Moon, trying so hard to be thoughtful, from ruthless Pluto. Curb your inner control freak.

Saturday really is Saturn-day, featuring a potentially serious, focused hook-up between the planet of wet blanket control and Moon, again, trying to be thoughtful, fair and rational. Grab a buddy and get some chores done. On Sunday, especially in the early AM, you can relax. After a short void you likely won’t even notice, Moon enters Scorpio at 12:32PM EST, demanding depth, substance and…later in the evening, earthly pleasures.

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 5/11/2011: Newt and Callista Gingrich

Shall we talk some more about idealism and people with idealism strongly suggested in their horoscopes making news at this time? Oh, let’s. I do hope you’re out there pitching this month….

Yesterday morning Newt and Callista Gingrich entered the race to become the Republican nominee for President of the United States in 2012. Callista, a reportedly devout Catholic, began her relationship with Newt in 1993, while he was married to his second wife. Their affair went on for seven years. While involved with Callista, who is 23 years his junior, Newt called for the impeachment of President Clinton  — for lying about his affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky. What kind of planetary patterns in a horoscope could suggest such bewildering, seemingly hypocritical actions and beliefs?

In the horoscope of Callista, we immediately see Mercury (mind, communication) in touch with Venus (social expression) — a classic sign of idealism (birth data: March 4, 1966, Whitehall, WI — time unknown). Other patterns suggest a likely challenging relationship with the father; an element of being somehow suppressed in her early home life, and a sense that life is hard work. These same patterns also suggest great discipline, determination and achievement. A Pisces with Moon in regal Leo, she likely has a bit of a queen complex, as well as more than a bit of glamor and charisma suggested by a connection to Mars from nebulous Neptune. With idealism identified in a horoscope, one is inclined to wonder — what unpleasantness that rose-colored outlook be masking?

In the horoscope of Newt, we find more than one familiar pattern. First, Sun in Gemini and Moon in opinionated Sagittarius — just like Donald Trump. Fascinating!  Signs of idealism? How about nebulous Neptune (fantasy, delusion, glamor, spirituality, drugs, sacrifice, deception, enlightenment) commanding attention at the Aries Point (remember how active that point was in global events back in March), in a challenge to Sun (Barack Obama, Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck also have this aspect) AND  opinionated, often preachy Moon in Sagittarius. This Moon is augmented by a grandiose connection to expansive Jupiter, not unlike the Moon-Jupiter connection in  Charlie Sheen’s horoscope. Sure, he can be extremely inspirational. But there is also the potential for more than a bit of magical thinking…

For today: Moon is void between 12:52 – 9:59AM EST. A slow start or a twist to your usual morning routine is suggested, after which Moon enters the discerning sign of Virgo, where it can spend the entire day in search of perfectly organized bliss. Though frankly, with the luscious abundance suggested by a “big idea” connection between Mercury and Jupiter…AND an indulgent connection between loving Venus and the cosmic sugar daddy (Jupiter), “organized” might be a challenge. Leave it to Mars, entering the sign of stable, stubborn Taurus, to temper the impulsive urge to take action we’ve experienced for the past few weeks with Mars in Aries. Some of us will breathe a huge sigh of relief.

Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 5/10/2011: Hillary Clinton Photo-Shopped Out

More thoughts on idealism. continued from yesterday’s forecast. As I was sipping my morning coffee while scanning the headlines, I was stunned to find this item about Hillary Clinton and another woman being photoshopped out of this now-iconic image taken at the White House last Sunday http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/blogpost/post/hillary-clinton-audrey-tomason-go-missing-in-situation-room-photo-in-der-tzitung-newspaper/2011/05/09/AFfJbVYG_blog.html  Talk about seeing the world through rose-colored glasses!

In astrology there are certain patterns in a horoscope that suggest a client might have issues with reality. On the plus side, planetary hook ups between Mercury and Venus, for example (the pattern in effect yesterday and all through this week), can suggest great vision (especially when nebulous Neptune is also involved).  On the downside, it signals a possible inability to face the facts. I have come to appreciate how idealism functions as a necessary defense in early childhood. “Why does this horoscope suggest,” I might ask a client, “that the relationship with your mother might have been somewhat bewildering?”  A client with strong idealism might deny this…and only later in the session does it come out that Mom was an alcoholic, hooked on painkillers or some other bewildering (to the child) condition. Idealism!

Getting back to the two women edited out of a photo. The editors of the newspaper in question stated in their defense, “In accord with our religious beliefs, we do not publish photos of women, which in no way relegates them to a lower status.” Idealism or realism? What do you think? Current planetary patterns strongly suggest that it’s the former. And then — this is where it gets interesting — we are moved to ask why?  As in, why is it deemed necessary to protect women from the eyes of men. What hard, cold reality could be denied or suppressed?

In other news, Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger announced their separation after 25 years of marriage. What patterns typically associated with a need for independence and transformation (that might cause stress on a marriage) are active in their horoscopes? In the case of Ms. Shriver, disruptive Uranus and nebulous Neptune suggest tension and bewilderment in relationship and identity areas (11/6/55 5:12PM Chicago, IL). In the case of Mr. Schwarzenegger, we see disruptive Uranus, “change or die” Pluto and nebulous Neptune suggesting a change of perspective in relationship and also bewilderment (7/30 /47 4:10AM Graz, Austria). Your friendly neighborhood astrologer can help you pinpoint times of stress in your significant relationships, too.

Today’s First Quarter Moon suggests a challenge to your New Moon agenda of turning your dreams into reality. There’s also the potential for abundance, ranging from the glorious to the wretchedly excessive (note to those keeping an eye on the rising waters of the Mississippi: keep your fingers crossed through Wednesday). A grand and festive Moon in Leo imbues the day with a desire to lord it over all. If you were born around April 16th, you could buy a couple of lottery tickets. In fact, anyone with a planet at 25 degrees of Aries might take a chance on Lady Luck today and tomorrow.

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 5/9/2011: Idealism in the horoscope

There’s plenty of potential for a banner week, and at the very least, continued good cheer, starting with the Moon entering sunny, royal, playful, adorable (in its own mind) Leo at 5:35AM EST. Following that we have an exact hook up between Mercury (mind) and Venus (social expression) in the impulsive, direct, “leap before you look” sign of Aries. When Mercury and Venus get together, idealism is often the name of the game. Everything is wonderful! Impossible things can happen! We’re committed to nuclear power! (They actually said that in Japan over the weekend, which might well become a clear example of the dangers of idealistic thinking http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/09/world/asia/09japan.html?hpw)

But sometimes, the magic in magical thinking can be real. At least one miracle did happen here in New York on Friday morning. A baby red-tailed hawk pecked its way out of an egg in a nest overlooking Washington Square (you can see the nest live on the Hawk Cam — more fun than television! http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/05/06/hawk-cam-miracles-do-happen/?scp=1&sq=hawk%20cam&st=cse) Red-tailed hawks are a big deal in New York, and this nest is an especially big deal because 1) it has a Hawk Cam; and 2) “experts” had declared just a few days ago that there was no way these eggs were going to hatch; it was too late. But not too late, apparently, with planetary patterns like we’ve got right now which continue suggest hope, promise, expansion, abundance in an ‘everything happens for the best” kind of way.

It’s Monday. You’ve been advised on the potential pitfalls of idealistic thinking. Otherwise, go for it!

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 5/6/2011 and the Weekend: Paul Krugman and Jupiter transits

Thanks to a friend on FB, I caught this intriguing article posted yesterday about pundits and how inaccurate most of their forecasts are. Maybe they should start hiring trained forecasting professionals (astrologers), to fill these positions. I’m available, in case anyone reading this is hiring. http://www.theatlanticwire.com/business/2011/05/seeking-justice-bad-pundits/37339/

The most accurate pundit in the survey, I was pleased to see, is Paul Krugman, who writes for the New York Times. I’ve been meaning to write about him in this column because he seems to be quite good at identifying patterns in the economy that are in synch with patterns in the cosmos. He consistently points out, with a certain degree of alarm, that patterns seen in the 30s are repeating themselves. And certainly in the world of astrology, they are! So when Paul Krugman has something to say about why such and such is like what was going on in the 30s (the 60s also qualifies), I pay attention.

Paul Krugman was born Feb 28, 1953 in Albany NY – time unknown. He is a Pisces with Moon in Virgo and thus perfectly wired to analyze intangible data in a relentless quest for perfection. All last year the brilliance of transiting Uranus (the stroke of genius) intensified and empowered his Mercury (mind and communication), which is another reason I pay attention to what he’s been thinking. So —  might there be anything happening in his horoscope right now that would suggest him being rewarded for his insights? You betcha! Yesterday the Sun at 15 Taurus hooked up with Krugman’s Jupiter (the promise of reward). Meanwhile, transiting Jupiter hooked up with his Venus (social expression) AND his Mercury and Jupiter midpoint, which is the hallmark of a WRITER! OK, readers, what do we learn?  We learn that when Jupiter is active In the horoscope, we can anticipate reward.  Where is Jupiter in YOUR horoscope?

Aspects on Friday suggest more happy, bouncy, chatty energy to apply in your quest for world domination. I mean oil is below $100 a barrel — pinch me! Moon goes void at 4:12PM EST, suggesting you get whatever agenda is of importance off your desk before then — and chill! Moon enters Cancer for the rest of the weekend, turning our focus on our need for emotional security, the comforts of home, Mom and apple pie (good for Mothers’ Day on Sunday). If there’s any excitement to be had, the odds favor Saturday. Watch for spats and power plays…but feel free to shop, especially if it’s for a home-related project. Sunday with Mom could be over-the-top, with challenges to Moon from loving Venus, Mercury and expansive Jupiter. Fortunately, challenges from those planets are rarely that stressful. Just be careful not to overindulge.

Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 5/5/2011: The Merry Month of May

Moon in chatty Gemini makes a harmonious connection to constructive Saturn this AM, and that’s the only exact aspect of the day, which makes it an excellent day for giving concrete form to mental concepts. Like a Mothers’ Day card that right now is just a concept in your brain. Get it in the mail today, before the Moon goes void tomorrow (yes, again).

In other areas of your life, think big and act accordingly. Aspects this month are just oh-so delicious — in an easy-going, focused, expansive sort of way. Oh maybe a few bumps between now and the end of the month, but nothing on the scale of the past four months. If there’s a caveat, it may be one of over-the-top idealism where a hard dose of reality may serve better. Rose-colored glasses are not always practical and can be downright delusional. That debt ceiling they’re thinking of raising? Up it will likely go. But if you can envision a solid support structure for your pie-in-the-sky concept, this is a good time for a launch.

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 5/4/2011

I could write about the alleged horoscope of Osama Bin Laden or Rick Santorum revving up his 2012 presidential campaign, but I’ve opted for neither. Nothing to report until Moon enters Gemini at 1:09PM EST. If you’re still recovering from the 24/7 cable news binge that began late Sunday night, you can get away (again) with sleeping in late and taking your time getting in gear. During yesterday’s Moon void (still void as I type), I heard reports of one friend rushing to get to a class that meets every other week, only to discover that — oops — it was meeting NEXT week, not this. Moon voids can feel like mini-Mercury retrogrades. Try to remember to double check the details.

Use the communicative energy of the day to reach out to the network of people you’ll need to put your New Moon agenda in motion. Indulge your inner visionary with an inspirational pitch. Tomorrow you can work on making it real.

Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 5/3/2011: New Moon in Taurus

After the buzz of the last 36 hours, you might need a break. And a break is what is suggested, even on a day that began with a New Moon at 13 degrees of Taurus, exact at 2:51 AM EST. Why? Because the Moon promptly went void of course, with no other exact planetary aspects, until it enters chatterbox Gemini at 1:09PM EST on Wednesday. So you have all day to brainstorm your New Moon agenda before actually launching plans for action.

This New Moon is nowhere near as edgy as the ones we were dealt in March and April. In this New Moon chart, we see Mercury and Venus together in Aries, suggesting an idealistic outlook. This is strongly reinforced by that jubilant, believe-in-the-impossible (and act on it) hook up between assertive Mars and expansive Jupiter — also in the sign of the (battering) Ram — that we saw play out in the headlines over the weekend. This New Moon is truly waxing rhapsodic.

New Moon in Taurus needs to build material stability and security. So what do you want to have? No really, what? How creative can you get when it comes to acquiring what you want? If you’re feeling a lack of resources this month, you might benefit from this gem of a book: “Who Moved My Cheese?” Yes, the prose is absolutely awful, but its commonsense, practical wisdom might be just the kick you need to get out of your rut — or help you blast through any fear of lack.  And who has time to be in a rut with all that pioneering Aries energy dying to make a miracle happen? Think fresh. Take action. Plant your seeds. Have faith in your vision of an abundant harvest of simple joys that feed your body, mind, heart and soul.

The Sabian Symbol for the New Moon at 13 Taurus is “a man handling baggage.”  Accept responsibility for whatever you pick up — and enjoy the comfort it brings. Drop it if you’re carrying too much.

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 5/2/2011: Osama bin Laden Dead

From the Weekend Forecast for Sunday: “But wait — what about that jubilant, “believe in the impossible” (and act on it) connection between horny Mars and expansive Jupiter, happening right after midnight?” Well, what about it, indeed. As anyone who isn’t living under a rock now knows, on Sunday evening President Obama announced that Osama bin Laden was dead, having been killed by US forces in an (obviously) covert operation. And America was jubilant (and likely still is, on Monday morning). What an end to a New Moon cycle so full of promise for daring, self-reliant, status quo-disrupting words and actions to dominate the headlines (re-read the forecast for the New Moon posted on 4/3/2011 https://graceastrology.com/DAILY_FORECAST.html for answers to the question, “what just happened?”). I can’t help but note that the announcement came on a void-of-course Moon; suggesting a certain element of “no consequence.” Hmmm.

Of course I immediately began thinking about how the events of the weekend reflect patterns in Obama’s horoscope. President Obama, a Leo with Moon in news junkie Gemini, is driven by a need to inform. And wasn’t he informative (not mention clever, entertaining and intense), while holding court at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lX16OrIVfeQ — especially at Donald Trump’s expense? You’d never know he’d recently authorized a deadly, high-risk covert operation that was about to rock the world.

You may recall a post a few weeks ago about the impact of nebulous Neptune’s current influence on Obama’s career/public status. Neptune energy can manifest as confusion (as in, “why is our Nobel Peace Prize-winning President bombing Libya??) or as guile, deception, illusion, vision, glamor, sacrifice or salvation. With Neptune, writes astrologer Noel Tyl, “things are not as they seem.” In sharp contrast to nebulous Neptune is a potentially brutal, driven, forceful, hard working connection between ruthless Pluto and controlling Saturn, exact in Obama’s horoscope on July 26 — but also influential right now — and certainly an apt description of the qualities of this covert operation. Also of note is a contact between aggressive Mars and Obama’s point of career/public status (technical term: the Midheaven), exact a couple of days ago. We would anticipate that he would be especially assertive at this time.

Use this day to wrap up the adventures of the last New Moon cycle; clear your desk and get ready for the next cycle, which begins at 2:51AM Tuesday in the sign of Taurus, where it is right now, seeking to establish material security and other creature comforts. To be continued…
