Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 5/8/2012: Venus Retrograde, Part I

As mentioned yesterday, Venus goes retrograde on the 15th at 10:33AM at 23 Gemini. Venus refers to how we need to express ourselves socially. It also refers to women, art, beauty and money; in health matters Venus refers to the belt line area of the body (and internal organs at the belt line, as well as the thyroid and the throat.  Venus also rules copper, which is an important indicator of economic growth in the commodities markets.

In our social interactions, Venus is the sugar that sweetens our needs and demands, facilitating cooperation in relationships. When direct in motion, Venus supports social graces and words like “please” and “thank you”. When retrograde, courtesy and consideration do not come so easily — and relationships suffer the consequences. The image I hold of Venus retrograde is one of those old-fashioned sardine cans — the ones where you had to use a key to open them. Roll back the lid of the sardine can and there you have it: stinky fish exposed, for all to see. There’s no hiding that smell!

Venus retrograde offers a relationship, material or aesthetic challenge wherever Venus is traveling in your horoscope, in this case 7-24 degrees of Gemini. Tried and true connections may be strained, but durable. Less sturdy bonds may snap. All that fishy smell can mess up our aesthetic senses, too. Be very careful about starting a fling with that hot new thing during this time period, lest ye awake in a month or so with buyer’s remorse — or worse — the horrible panicked aftermath of a coyote date. This applies to all partnerships, not just romantic ones.

Don’t believe me? Just ask the voters who put those Tea Party rock stars in office in the November 2010 elections, despite the suggestions posted in this forecast (search the archives) that they might live to regret it. In Wisconsin, Governor Scott Walker faces a recall election; governors in at least five other states have rankled voters with their “bullying tactics”.

Exercise caution in matters of decor, too. If you’re planning on redecorating, you hopefully have your colors picked out now, rather than during Venus retrograde. Putting in an offer on a new home? The value of the home may be inflated; make sure you’re not paying too much. Look under the rugs, kick the tires — make sure you’re not seduced by surface charm covering up so much….stinky fish.

So what good can come out of Venus retrograde? Artistic and creative projects you abandoned may be ripe for a second chance at completion. Review your handling of financial matters; perhaps there is room for some REorganizing and REstructuring (the RE refers to the REtrograde). You may find yourself REconsidering the value of all of your relationships between May 15th and June 28th, but there’s no pressure to make a major leap forward or break until Venus moves forward again.

More on Venus retrograde later. As for today, Moon in high-flying Sagittarius gets off to a self-indulgent start, opposed by loving Venus at 10:39AM ET…then settles down and gets serious, courtesy of an easy connection to Saturn at 12:58PM ET…wrapped up with another easy communicative connection between mental Mercury and Moon at 9:43PM ET. Got something you’d like to talk about it? If heavy emotions are involved, blame ruthless Pluto’s continuing obsessive connection with Venus.

After a half hour void, Moon moves into “make it happen” Capricorn at 10PM ET, setting a dynamic tone for Wednesday.

More anon.

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 5/7/2012: Monday, Monday

Generally speaking, Moon in Sagittarius…where it moved last night at 9:39PM ET (after a loooong 13 hour void)…tends to lift the spirits, even when its fueled by philosophical debates that can get a wee bit rowdy (Sagittarius is not the most perfectly groomed sign of the zodiac…and you wouldn’t be either if you were half-human and half-beast, as all Centaur-Archers are). Today, however, the opinions that need to be expressed may ruffle a few feathers, suggested by a challenge to Moon from aggressive Mars in hypercritical Virgo at 8:18AM ET. The emotional outburst that may follow could be over the top, suggested by an obsessive connection between ruthless Pluto and Venus. Put your Big Girl Panties on and use a bit of charm and objective strategy to acquire the resources you need. We’ve got one more day of mental Mercury in impulsive, quick-tempered Aries; by Wednesday cooler heads will likely prevail (though they may not be nearly as inspiring or exciting).

As the day progresses, any storm clouds in your world are likely to dissipate. Take advantage of opportunities to broaden your mind and sense of physical space — or just enjoy a gambol/gamble or two.

Moon voids this week (to help you plan your agenda): Tuesday 9:34 – 10PM ET; Thursday 3:11PM – 1:03AM Friday ET.

Coming up later this week: what to expect when Venus turns retrograde at 10:33AM ET on the 15th. If you’re thinking of redecorating your home, I hope you’ve picked your colors out already….

Astro-logical Forecast for 5/5/2012: Full Moon in Scorpio

A few words about the Full Moon in Scorpio, exact tonight at 11:35PM ET because…well…I said I would write something. And because a few readers are wanting to know what a Supermoon is. Credit astrologer Richard Nolle with coining that phrase to describe “a new or full Moon which occurs with the Moon at or near (within 90% of) its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit (called perigee)”. Look up and that Moon will look very BIG in the sky. Closer to Earth suggests a more intense Full Moon than usual, and experience shows that we often see weird, wacky weather along with it. Another fun fact, especially for Scrabble buffs: With the Earth, Moon and Sun all in a line (called syzygy), and with the Moon in its nearest approach to Earth, a Supermoon is also called perigee-syzygy. I challenge you to play “syzygy” in your next Scrabble game.

  • Syzygy: Astronomy . an alignment of three celestial objects, as thesun, the earth, and either the moon or a planet: Syzygy in thesun-earth-moon system occurs at the time of full moon and new moon.
  • Perigee: Astronomy . the point in the orbit of a heavenly body, especially the moon, orof an artificial satellite at which it is nearest to the earth.
This Full Moon leaves me speechless. It’s in Scorpio, which needs depth and substance.  I could flippantly say that Scorpio wrote the book on intimacy, the kind that draws people in like a magnet or sends more skittish and scattered types running screaming down the halls. Got a planet in Scorpio? Whatever it rules in your horoscope it can take you all the way down to hell or all the way to heaven…but oh, what you will know as a result.
Taurus and Scorpio are both concerned with values and other assets. Taurus is concerned with the values of the individual; Scorpio refers to values/assets/resources that are shared. It is in these areas that you may find illumination suggested by a Full Moon.
The Sabian Symbols for the Sun at 16 Taurus opposing the Moon at 16 Scorpio are “a battle between the swords and the torches” and “a woman the father of her own child” and as usual, Blaine Bovee is the go-to guy for further explanation:  “strife between powers of the mind and powers of spirit and passion”  vs. “a spirited sense of self-fertilization and independence” .  Possible manifestations include “matters of spirit over ideas….denial, such as teenage mothers who insist they have never had sex….Gothic romances where passions collide with social and political realities; campaigns to supplant cold technology with agrarian simplicity…choosing between cutting away from or twisting together”.
Supplanting cold technology with agrarian simplicity, eh? From the New York Times home page: today the last nuclear reactor in Japan was shut down   while in Brazil, massive hydroelectric constructive projects are disrupted by workers who want more assets, and criticized by environmentalists.
If  you have a planet around 16 degrees of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius, you’ll likely feel the pull of this Full Moon more personally. I have Neptune at 15 Scorpio, so a need for depth of spirit and other intangibles, such as music, have been driving this day. I’ve been listening to the soundtracks of Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita — talk about “passions colliding with social and political realities”! On impulse, I looked up the horoscopes of composer Andrew Lloyd Webber (3/22/1948 4pm Westminster UK) and lyricist Tim Rice (11/10/44 5:45-?- Amersham, UK). Serious astrology buffs, you are going to seriously flip out (everyone else, just play along): Lloyd Webber has Venus, Saturn and Midheaven (career point) at 16-17 Taurus AND Mars-Saturn at 16-18 Leo. Rice has Sun, Mars and the Jupiter/Saturn midpoint (which refers to one’s sense of purpose) at 18-19 Scorpio.
Last, but not least, minutes ago this fascinating story about prisoners in Louisiana mounting a musical production about the life of Jesus Christ just hit the NYT home page:  At some point I’ll write more about matters of spirit manifesting in works of art, as suggested by nebulous Neptune’s recent entry into Pisces. Suffice it to say that it is no surprise to see revivals of Godspell and Jesus Christ Superstar currently playing on Broadway, along with a musical remake of the Steve Martin movie Leap of Faith
If you’re a serious student of astrology, consider getting Bovee’s book, The Sabian Symbols and Astrological Analysis.

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 5/4/2012 & The Weekend: Moon Waxing Full

The pleasantries suggested by last night’s easy connection between loving Venus in smooth-talking Gemini and mental Mercury in impassioned Aries continue into the morning, supported by another easy connection to Venus from the people-pleasing Moon in Libra. You got something you want to talk about? Go for it…but be aware of a more serious, focused, possibly authoritarian tone likely to present itself around 2:02PM ET, as Moon hooks up with controlling and/or ambitious Saturn.

Perhaps you will be able to skip out of work early today; Moon goes void at 2:02PM ET, not to enter Scorpio until 10:20PM ET. No harm, no foul during the void…but the mood likely intensifies late tonight and  for the rest of the weekend. Moon is waxing full in watery Scorpio, seeking substance…as well as knowledge for the sake of power and control.  It’s a SuperMoon, too — suggesting weird, wacky weather in unexpected places…maybe someplace near you.

Inspiration, initiation and transformation flow easily on Saturday and there is no Moon void to thwart your shopping plans. Challenges may arrive by evening, suggested by an opposition to mental Mercury from “wet blanket” Saturn. This could manifest as outright rejection or more serious conversations in search of a common ground.

More on the Full Moon, exact at 11:35PM ET on Saturday — in a separate forecast. Note that on Sunday, Moon will be void from 8:14AM to 9:39PM ET. Like I said, do your major shopping on Saturday….

Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 5/3/2012

Will your morning be greeted with a little jolt, surprise or other disruption of the status quo. Moon in people-pleasing Libra, challenged by rebel Uranus at 8:58AM ET would suggest that potential…followed by a power play, an emotional confrontation or catharsis or news from underground as Moon is challenged by ruthless Pluto at 1:27PM ET. In your own personal world, these patterns offer a dynamic, proactive energy for you to use in your quest for fairness, justice and the ideal as (possibly) expressed in relationship, which can be especially rewarding today.

Speaking of ideals, idealism is running higher than usual, as reflected in a sextile between Mercury (mindset) and Venus (social expression, art, love, beauty, money, women). So much of everything can seem so beautiful right now…

Follow up story: “The Scream” by Edvard Munch, did set records yesterday, selling to someone for a staggering 119.9 million dollars http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/03/arts/design/the-scream-sells-for-nearly-120-million-at-sothebys-auction.html?_r=1&hp  More of the wretched excess suggested by expansive Jupiter, running wild in the sensual, material world of Taurus? Yes…and there would have to be something in Edvard Munch’s horoscope to reflect this cycle of prominence in the headlines. Even though Munch is no longer among us, I’d argue his horoscope continues to respond to planetary patterns.

Munch was born on December 12, 1863 in Loten, Norway — birth time unknown, but through a technique known as rectification, an astrologer can determine a birth time, by lining up patterns in a horoscope with the timing of life events. If I were to take the time to test Munch’s horoscope, instinct tells me that the square between Pluto and Uranus would likely be active right now — the horoscope would be hot! When I have time, I may explore this horoscope further….gotta fly right now!

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 5/2/2012: Don’t Worry; Be Happy

A day that begins on a note of exuberance, expansion and idealistic pleasure, perhaps of the self-indulgent kind. Moon in perfectionist Virgo makes a smooth connection with Jupiter, the cosmic sugar daddy and challenges Venus (love, art, money, beauty) — all before breakfast, before going void-of-course at 6:58AM ET….not to enter Libra until 10:04PM ET. Chill, baby, chill.

Be prepared for curious twists in your quest for perfect organization — and roll with them w/out freaking out or having some other neurotic meltdown (Moon in Virgo can be quite the worrywart). And there’s no need to worry, because everything may flow perfectly fine for you today — but if it doesn’t, you now have the 411 on how to handle it, suggested by planetary patterns.

Creative potential continues to be high. Relationships — perhaps some with a “fated” quality — may also be a strong focus. You may find yourself more open to opportunities to mix and mingle — that includes old friends, new contacts and people you may have always taken for granted….until now.

Social interaction and appreciation continues with Moon’s ingress into Libra at 10:04PM ET — 7:04PM PT — or dinnertime on the West Coast. You could have a lot to talk about…

Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 5/1/2012: A More Perfect Union

Super early risers on the East Coast may be all fired up in the morning, courtesy of an intense hook-up between aggressive Mars and Moon in perfectionist Virgo. Could we be more perfectly organized if we tried? Yes, and there will likely be plenty of critics (including the one inside your head) who could show just how precisely resourceful they can be.  Other planetary patterns today suggest considerable creative potential and an intriguing obsession with establishing new connections — which could be quite positive. You can network yourself silly or hang with a group, especially if an idealistic viewpoint is part of the mix. For some, this may be a day of reckoning, as a driving ambition faces a test. Are you on the right track? Interesting to observe these planetary patterns on a day when demonstrations have been planned nationwide by the folks that brought you Occupy Wall Street http://rendezvous.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/04/30/occupy-wall-street-brings-may-day-to-america/

Just a reminder to get it off your desk today if you can; the Moon will be void of course from 6:58AM ET to 10:04PM ET on Wednesday. Moon voids suggest that moving in a direct, focused straight line could be challenged by unexpected twists, flakes and crises that turn out to be much ado about naught.

Meanwhile, a couple of news items caught my eye over the weekend. Jupiter, sometimes the planet of wretched excess, has been running wild in Taurus, which seeks to preserve material security and keep things “the way they should be”. One of the most popular stories on the New York Times home page is about a 102 year-old woman who has lived her entire life in New York — on the same street! http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/29/nyregion/east-84th-street-as-it-was-and-as-it-is.html?_r=1&src=me&ref=nyregion

Add to Jupiter’s tendency toward excess a few other planetary patterns noted in recent posts, and we end up with a front-page headline about how Apple has managed to avoid billions in taxes, apparently paying just under 10% last year — amazing http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/29/business/apples-tax-strategy-aims-at-low-tax-states-and-nations.html?pagewanted=all

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 4/30/2012: Void and More Voids

Get it off your desk first thing in the AM if you can — at least on the East Coast. Moon continues its promenade through regal Leo, buoyed by contact with expansive Jupiter overnight, before settling down to some constructive communication at 10:17AM ET, at which point it goes void…not to enter discriminating Virgo until 7:02PM ET. Great for brainstorming; not so great for launching new ventures and signing contracts. If you’re new to these forecasts and want more info on Moon voids, check out the post dated February 10, 2012 — it’s in the archives on the website.

Tuesday and Thursday are looking most productive this week Wednesday we have a void from 6:58AM ET to 10:04PM; on Friday Moon is void of course from 2:02PM to 10:20PM ET. Plan accordingly.

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 4/27/2012 & the Weekend: Art and Commerce

Thank God It’s Friiiiiied-day! Moon in Cancer, sign of Mom and apple pie, makes only one connection during business hours, and it’s a communicative one to jolly Jupiter, the cosmic sugar daddy, exact at 3:59PM ET. This suggests a high note to finish off your work week and certainly a very happy hour at cocktail time.

What could possibly distract you today? Ohhh…maybe a strict, disciplined focus required by authoritative Saturn, running wild in the cosmos, along with Venus, which refers to art, love, money — the value of aesthetics — running wild in buzz-generating Gemini. Hmmm…art and commerce, running wild? Sounds like a perfect day for Edvard Munch’s masterpiece “The Scream” to be previewed at Sothebys — ahead of its auction on May 2nd. It’s apparently going to be a huge season in the art world — makes sense to me! http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-04-27/munch-s-80-million-scream-leads-new-york-may-auctions.html

Moon goes void at 3:05AM ET Saturday, not to enter regal, playful Leo until 12:10PM ET, and you better believe I’m sleeping in. Moon voids are divine opportunities for catching up on rest, meditation, yoga, creative brainstorming and going with the flow. Find out more about voids in the forecast posted on February 10, 2012 — it’s in the archives. After 12:10PM you can play king or queen of your castle whilst seeking love and adoration from your subjects. Such is the need of Moon in Leo — and now you know how to handle someone who has that in his or her horoscope. Have fun!

Drama and play continue through Sunday, intensified by a potent connection between resourceful Pluto and the Sun. News from underground, power plays and/or a discovery of resources may be in the headlines or your own personal world…motivated by a challenge to whatever agenda you set for yourself at the time of the New Moon. Why? Because the First Quarter Moon is exact at 5:57AM ET, that’s why. That suggests a challenge…so deal with it and adjust your plans accordingly, without too much sturm and drang. True to the spirit of the Leo Moon, a playful approach can be highly effective.

Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 4/26/2012: The Watery Depths

The reigning need of this day and Friday is emotional/homeland security, suggested by the Moon’s ingress into watery Cancer. That’s a big shift from the information-driven energy of the past few days when Moon was in intellectual Gemini. It doesn’t mean the day will be any less dynamic, however.

Note your dreams upon awakening, courtesy of Moon’s lovely connection with nebulous Neptune. There’s a nice flow to the morning on the East Coast, followed by a flash of insight, a disruption of the status quo, a declaration of independence or some other surprise — as rebel Uranus challenges that security-loving Moon at 2:17PM ET.

Keep on trucking for the next few hours, until ruthless Pluto challenges the Moon at 8:31PM ET, suggesting a power play (which could be in your favor), or a deep emotional catharsis (which could also work to your advantage). We’ll have more of Moon in Cancer on Friday, only without so much activity. It’ll be fun. You’ll love it!

Remember that Big Giant Earth Grand Trine that was exact in mid-March? The one involving the so-called money planets: Jupiter & Venus…trine resourceful Pluto…trine aggressive Mars? The one that led to that Big Giant MegaMillions jackpot? The one that was reflected in the markets as a big surge? We have an echo of that pattern happening now through the weekend, only not quite as dramatic or exact. We saw proactive Mars trine Sun on Monday; resourceful Pluto trines the Sun on Sunday — all three in Earth signs. The suggestion here — loosely — is the projection of material self-sufficiency, and isn’t it interesting that we’re in the middle of corporate earnings season and 80% — or some number close to that — of companies that have reported so far have beat Wall Street estimates. Of course if you’re materially self-sufficient, you don’t need help from anyone else. Which means you’re probably not hiring workers anytime soon — at least not this month.

Meanwhile, look at all the cold, hard facts that hit the fan on yesterday’s exact Pluto-Mercury square! And so much dirt about to be dug up — years after we thought the investigations were over, as in the case of Madeleine McCann, a young girl who presumably was abducted a few years ago http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Latest-News-Wires/2012/0425/Madeleine-McCann-Why-British-police-want-to-reopen-missing-child-case-video In other news, Newt Gingrich has a reality check and is about to end his campaign to become our next President http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/26/opinion/collins-the-end-of-newt.html?hp There’s more dirt on an intriguing power play going on in China http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/26/world/asia/bo-xilai-said-to-have-spied-on-top-china-officials.html?hp And here’s an investigation that uncovered actual verbal abuse (one of the downsides of Mercury-Pluto challenges is verbal abuse — amazing)! http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/sns-rt-us-usa-autism-dadbre83p01c-20120425,0,3544619.story

Finally, if you’d like to see the video of Senator Rob Portman doing his chicken impression (cited in the Gingrich article above), it happened in January on CNBC’s Squawk Box http://video.cnbc.com/gallery/?video=3000067052  Chicken impressions on a TV network devoted to corporations and stock markets? Absolutely. Spectacular showmanship and entertainment are strongly suggested in CNBC’s horoscope — yes, of course I had to look it up.
