Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 2/12/2013: Pope Benedict’s Perfect Timing

Another day of Moon-voidness in dreamy Pisces, as you may recall from yesterday’s forecast. What twists, flakes and other delays in your efforts to move forward in a straight line have you experienced since noon ET on Monday? Today offers more of the same, including continued structuring and researching new platforms to launch your visions, courtesy of cooperative contacts among mental Mercury, disciplined Saturn and potent Pluto. which are exact today. Brainstorm away, and make some time to play, too.

A notable shift in tone should manifest once the Moon engages in pioneering Aries at  8:51PM ET, minutes before President Obama’s State of the Union speech at 9PM ET. Talk about going from zero to sixty. Will we be inspired to respond to his call to action? Expect equally impassioned initiatives proposed in the response given by the other side.

Meanwhile, the Pope shocked most everyone yesterday by announcing his resignation.  In my daydreams I have been imagining him over the past few weeks, meditating on the Sabian Symbol for this lunar cycle (“a rug placed on the floor for children to play”), recognizing that the New Moon opposes his Neptune (need for a creative/spiritual escape) and thinking, “Right. I’m outta here”.  After all, he does have access to the world’s largest astrological library (those early astronomers were also astrologers). All kidding aside, it is suggested in the Pope’s horoscope that health concerns might be an issue during the past couple of years, with a need for streamlined focus and conservation of energy. That his announcement would come as a surprise should surprise no one; the horoscope has Mercury (communication) conjunct disruptive Uranus, and both are squared by willful Mars. Sudden outbursts would be expected, and what was expressed would need to attract prominence. Recall what I wrote at the end of Sunday’s forecast about the need for people with planets at 6 degrees of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces to have a release? The Pope is in that category…and upcoming transits suggest this is a fine time to make an easy transition in his domestic life.

I can’t help but also note in this horoscope a need for authority and control that dominates the persona and is likely related to issues with the father. Also intriguing are strong challenges to the balance-needing Libra Moon from power-seeking Pluto and rebel Uranus, coupled with equally strong challenges to the lunar node from aggressive Mars, mental Mercury and freedom-needing Uranus (again!). Translation: this would prompt a skilled astrologer to inquire about possible combative power struggles with the mother/maternal figure in the Pope’s early home life, and how this relationship was carried forward in adult relationships with women. It was therefore fascinating to read a sharply-worded op-ed by playwright John Patrick Shanley (author of the Pulitzer prize-winning “Doubt“) about this same question in this morning’s New York Times.

In other news reflecting the tough as nails potential of yesterday’s chilly challenge between stern Saturn and loving Venus, here’s a lengthy but essential article about the Navy SEAL who shot Osama bin Laden. Far more compelling than Zero Dark Thirty, it offers a gripping account of that mission. Yes, it was tough, but how the story ends is even tougher. You won’t believe what this SEAL is doing now.

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 5/16/2012: Venus Retrograde, Part 2

With the Moon charging ahead in me-me-me Aries (as of 5:45PM ET Tuesday), we can anticipate an active day, punctuated by a surprise, a shock or a flash of insight around 8:11AM ET…and a power play, catharsis or other deep encounter (including news from underground) around 12:10PM ET. Headline news about power/aggression and resources (including nuclear energy, oil and mines) are also a potential — and oh, look, as I’m typing, here’s a story about the former military commander of the U.S. nuclear forces calling for a reduction in nuclear warheads right on the New York Times homepage– amazing.

You may be on  your own personal power surge today — and with Venus now retrograde (as of 10:33AM ET yesterday), remember to add an extra bit of consideration in your social interactions. Venus retrograde offers an excellent opportunity to FOCUS on what we need in relationship — and to give to others the kindness we would like to receive from them.

The span Venus will retrace over the next seven weeks is 24 to 7 degrees Gemini. If you know your horoscope, that area is where you may find opportunities to review issues of integrity in relationship and/or financial and aesthetic concerns. It can be challenging to assess the true value of something during a retrograde, so you may want to wait before making firm commitments one way or the other. Example: a friend of mine once bought an apartment during Venus retrograde — and while it seemed to be an excellent deal at the time, she could have paid less, especially since she discovered (after the sale closed) that the apartment had flaws the seller had deliberately covered up. Do your due diligence in matters of love, money and beauty.

The Sabian Symbol for 24 Gemini is “children skating on ice,” or to quote Blain Bovee, “an image of unsteady legs trying to move forward on unfamiliar terrain”.  We live in ever-changing times, and patterns suggest we are about to move into a time of increasing volatility. These patterns will likely offer exciting new opportunities…and as we find our paradigms shifting, how we connect and relate with each other may also be subject to change.

Astro-logical Forecast for Sunday 1/15/2012: Venus in Pisces & That Sinking Feeling

Moon has been in people-pleasing Libra since 8:28AM ET Saturday, adding to the need for beauty and harmony suggested by Friday’s hook-up between idealistic Neptune and loving Venus, still in effect thru the weekend. As of 12:47AM ET Saturday, Venus left “who’s your buddy?” Aquarius for the soulful depths of Pisces. Whereas Venus in Aquarius can take a scientific approach to relationships some find a bit detached and/or maddening, Venus in Pisces does not need to analyze; it just feels intuitively, with compassion and empathy. See if you notice that shift in social expression over the next few weeks.

Your Saturday date night offered an interesting mix of the aforementioned soulful social expression cheered on by a connection to jolly Jupiter, challenged by a potentially intense emotional catharsis, suggested by that people-pleasing Libra Moon squared by ruthless, transformational Pluto. Such was the scenario just before 1oPM ET — anyone have any good stories?

There are no exact aspects among the planets on Sunday, save for an expressive Moon-Mercury challenge at 2:15AM ET, suggesting a need — perhaps — to lay things on the line. After that, the need for peace and harmony prevails — unless you’re one of those lucky people born near a solstice or an equinox. What’s that bzzzzzzzzz you’ve probably been feeling since February of 2011 all about, hmmmm?

In other news…the Patriots were favored to win Saturday’s game — and they did. Go, Pats! http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/15/sports/football/tom-brady-leads-patriots-to-win-over-tim-tebow-and-broncos.html?hp Meanwhile, I can’t find an exact time of departure for the cruise ship that ran aground in Italy on Friday the 13th http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/15/world/europe/cruise-ship-runs-aground-off-tuscan-coast.html?hp but looking at the charts for 8PM (when the accident apparently occurred) and 9:30PM (a time of great confusion on board the ship, according to some reports I’ve read) in Giglio Porto. Measurements suggest the possibility of a “sudden event” and an insistence on self-sufficiency when it would have been more efficient to ask for input from — ???  Nebulous Neptune and status quo-disrupting Uranus are quite strong in both of these charts, suggesting the possibility of confusion, accidents and/or risky behavior. Moon and Mars conjunct in perfectionist Virgo suggests much argument over the right thing to do — even as those arguing had, according to the horoscope,  likely lost their bearings.

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 9/24/2010 and the Weekend

Reports from the field confirm that this was indeed a particularly intense, proactive Full Moon, just as anticipated. I’m hearing stories of explosive confrontations (ego-based), sudden crises in a doctor’s office and an overall busier-than-business as usual mood of the day. Also hearing stories of deals coming close to fruition — especially speculative proposals backed by an enthusiastic and innovative sales pitch — and all of this fits within the realm of possibility suggested by the planets this week.

Today the Moon is still in me-me-me Aries, suggesting abundant enthusiasm and pioneering strategies, on the one hand — and the possibility for more ego spats if someone feels they are not being Recognized. TGIF! While the Moon (emotional response) is not being buffeted around like tumbleweed today, we are approaching a challenge between ruthless Pluto and the Sun, exact Saturday at 8:24PM NY. Already we are seeing in the headlines more revelations of corruption in hallowed institutions, like GMAC admitting that it signed off on thousands of foreclosures without actually reading any of the files, despite the fact that it was legally obligated to do so. And then there are health “insurers”, scrambling as best they can to put their bottom line first, no matter what (which, for the record,  they are legally obligated to do), with endearing strategies like eliminating health insurance policies for children. Ruthless! And — what’s this? Minutes ago, this headline in the New York Times: “Hidden Under Tax-Exempt Cloak, Political Dollars Flow”. Well, thanks to Pluto moving through Capricorn, they’re not hidden anymore ; )

Saturday the Moon is Void from 9:12AM – 4:17PM NY — so consider yourself advised to avoid impulse shopping during this time period. Odds are you don’t really need it — and later you’ll wonder why you bought it. The key word here is “impulse”. If it’s something you’ve already scoped out, planned to purchase — and are just waiting for the weekend to pick it up, that’s another story. You may find the day better spent catching up on sleep, exercising, meditating or just wandering around and seeing where the day takes you. Let me know if you encounter any twists.

Moon moves into sensual Taurus at 4:17PM NY for the rest of the weekend, making dynamic connections to both Mars (action) and Venus (social expression), suggesting a Saturday and Sunday well-spent indulging in pleasures of the senses, especially with a significant other if you’ve got one hanging around. Even if you’re flying solo, the weekend can be delightful.
