Tuesday 1/15/2019: Late, Late Sneak Peek at the Week; Catching Up on the Big News

Alll-righty then!

Late post this week — and there’s so much going on. Plus, I caught a cold over the weekend, and my stunt double wasn’t available to fill in. Getting caught up now, thanks for your patience.

The Moon is Taurus, doing its best to preserve material comfort and security, while refusing to change. Still, whatever you’re doing, keep at it, because the Moon is cruising without much interference. Can’t say as much for the Capricorn Sun (leaders, CEOs) which is scheduled for a self-destruct or toxic release as it meets up with the South Node (a symbol of toxic release/destruction) just after midnight on THURSDAY. Not only that, but the Sun (leaders, willpower, heart, spine, gold) and all that is symbolizes is under added stress from its square this FRIDAY with rebel Uranus. In the language of astrology, Uranus refers to space oddities, genetic mutations, seismic activity, aviation, technology and revolution. You are more affected by the wacky buzz if you have a planet or angle around 25-28 degrees of Aries, Libra, Cancer or Capricorn.

Other patterns this week:

  • WEDNESDAY: Taurus Moon goes void at 1:34 PM ET, inviting us to chill and focus on routine concerns. No freaking out over twists and flakes; this, too shall pass. I find writing during Moon voids to be highly fulfilling.
  • Moon enters Gemini on Wednesday at  8 PM ET, seeking the big story in every trivial detail. A day with Moon in Gemini can be chattier than most, and also quite mercurial.
  • FRIDAY features a harmony between Venus (women, money, art ) and Mars (men, action, courage, aggression).  Mars is in Aries all month, driving us forward with urgency in its need to get there FIRST. Venus is in Sagittarius, pushing the boundaries of social expression with enthusiasm some may find less than refined, but it still works. The Venus-Mars harmony is exact at 11:50 AM ET,  but in effect all week, facilitating passionate alignments, especially if you have planets around 11 degrees of just about any sign.
  • FRIDAY also features a penetrating meet-up between Mercury (how we need to think) and Pluto (news from underground). This happens at 3:01 PM ET, followed at 8:32 PM ET by that raucous Sun-Uranus square. Lord only knows what investigative dirt will hit the fan — I hope there are tapes.
  • Moon goes void on FRIDAY at 8:32 PM ET and enters Cancer at 10:44 PM ET. The void is a nothingberder — you’ll barely notice. The Cancer Moon suggests a weekend of focus on family, homeland and emotional security, driven by a beautiful humanitarian ideal.
  • Sun enters Aquarius on SUNDAY at 4 AM ET; Venus squares Neptune at 11:24 PM ET; there’s your drive for a beautiful humanitarian ideal, illuminated by the eclipse of a Supermoon in Leo minutes after midnight on MONDAY. This one should reflect quite a release; even its  1 Leo Sabian Symbol is daunting: “a fit of apoplexy” — same as the New Moon in Leo from July 2017 — take a look back here and see what was going on then.

Awww…look what just landed in my inbox from Avid Reader Regina:

I wanted you to know that on New Year’s Day I went back and listened to the tape of your astro reading from last summer. With the benefit of time, distance, and reflection, I was just blown away by how accurate it was. In fact, I remembered things that did not occur to me under the pressure of hearing the reading for the very first time (which is why the tapes are so invaluable). Can’t wait for our next consultation!

That just made my day — hope your day is filled with equal appreciation.

And now, the news.

Heavy reality checks involving power and leadership beyond your wildest imagination. That’s one potential under last weekend’s:

  • Sun conjunct Pluto in Capricorn
  • Mercury conjunct Saturn in Capricorn
  • Jupiter in Sag square Neptune in Pisces (the first of three this year)

In the horoscope of the U.S., the heavy reality check hit hard, reflecting transiting Saturn opposing the U.S. Sun and square U.S. Saturn. We see the potential for America to be severely diminished and squeezed.  Exhibit A: the current government shutdown is now the longest in U.S. history. Exhibit B: while The Donald was on the TeeVee last week, reading the Teleprompter something something non-existent humanitarian crisis (told ya so)  blah blah,  The Donald’s Administration downgraded the status of the EU’s diplomatic mission (without telling anyone beforehand). “The Donald” is how he was named in the tabloid press decades ago,  back in the good old days, and I think we need a dose of good old days right now. Plus, I’m not convinced that occupying the White House has changed him at all since then.

Exhibit C: on Friday, we see the  NYT and WaPo reporting 1) that the FBI opened an investigation into whether The Donald is a Russian asset or agent; and 2) a gentle reminder that no one in our government has any idea what was discussed between The Donald and Vladimir Putin. This goes against all protocols — especially the part about The Donald seizing his translator’s notes.  In short, this is not normal — and lord only know what they’ve got on Mitch McConnell and his three (at least) planets in stubborn-as-a-bull Taurus.

First thought: “Thank gawd the FBI was paying attention (and their investigation was transferred to Mueller’s watch).”  Second thought: “None of this is remotely surprising to anyone who’s been paying attention since 2016, the year of the surreal Saturn-Neptune square…or anyone who’s been paying attention to The Donald for decades.” Third thought: “OMG…but so many people aren’t paying attention, including my adorable Republican chiropractor, who has no idea who Merrick Garland or Paul Manafort are.” Fourth thought: “As comedy is a coping strategy for pain, let’s see how funnyman Stephen Colbert presented the news of Exhibit C.

Like Stephen Colbert, I was also mercifully distracted by the video of gymnast Katelyn Ohashi scoring a perfect 10 with a mind-blowing floor routine that lit up social media. First thought: “She has to be an Aries.” And she IS…and about to launch an empowered run into the fall of 2020, as transiting Pluto squares her Sun. Birth data: April 12, 1997 in Seattle — no time available.

Meanwhile, across the pond, it was another dreadful day for UK PM  Theresa May, whose Brexit deal was resoundingly defeated in Parliament.  Well, she was never in favor of Brexit anyway. What will happen now? I do not know, but I note that on February 1st she will have the first of three squares to her Jupiter from transiting Jupiter. This is interesting because when she became PM, she was having a Jupiter return. This upcoming square is like a First Quarter Moon. Either she’ll push through the challenges of the seeds planted when she took on the job or the challenges will derail her. February 1st is a likely marker, so let’s watch.

Avid Readers may recall that the Brexit vote happened during that bewildering Saturn-Neptune square of 2015-2016, a time when borders and foreigners would be more likely to be controlled. Saturn was in Sagittarius, remember? Saturn is control/borders; Sagittarius refers to foreigners.  Now that we have Jupiter in Sagittarius (square Neptune), we see the potential for a more expansive attitude in these matters.  Add in the penetrating reality check of Mercury’s current contact with Saturn and Pluto, and in the U.S. we see: “Court Blocks [The Donald’s] Administration from Asking About Citizenship in the Census.” Huzzah.

RANDOM OBSERVATION about the horoscope for the current U.S. government shutdown, which began at midnight on December 22, 2018 in Washington, D.C.: The Donald said he would own it. And went it went into effect, the Moon was at 22 Gemini — same degree as his Gemini Sun. Coincidence or conspiracy? No idea when the shutdown might end, but the 22nd and 23rd look interesting.

Guess who else has Moon at 22 degrees of blah blah blah Gemini? Rep. Steve King (R-IA), known for being a “staunch opponent of immigration and multiculturalism,” as they might say in polite society. Of course he would also be known for being an ally of The Donald, with his Gemini Moon exactly conjunct The Donald’s Sun. This is an easy magnetic pull.

But Rep. King pushed his luck over the weekend, saying in an NYT interview, “White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization — how did that language become offensive?”  This was the straw that broke the elephant’s back, apparently.  Rep. King was stripped of his committee positions by his Republican colleagues — yep happened yesterday.

Now the NYT asks,  “Why Not Sooner?”   Well, we do have a birth time for Steve King and thus a reliable horoscope.  What just happened? The immediate trigger is transiting Mars, which squared his 9 degree Capricorn Ascendant yesterday. Mars in hard aspect to an angle alerts us to an impulsive outburst, accident or attack. Today he trashed his GOP leaders, including Liz Cheney (R-WY), whose horoscope suggests she’ll be making all kinds of headlines later this year. Stay tuned!

Thank you for reading this horoscope.

Monday 1/7/2019: Brief Sneak Peek at the Week; Venus in Sagittarius; Sun Conjunct Pluto & More

Good Morning!

The work week begins with Moon in Aquarius as of 1:46 AM ET. Who’s yer buddy and what’s your humanitarian crusade? Arise, go forth and network, in your quest to be recognized for your unique individuality and social significance. The Moon cruises without road bumps today and into WEDNESDAY.

Meanwhile, here’s to the huge sigh of relief that started this morning at 6:19 AM ET, with Venus finally finally finally completed its months-long journey through Scorpio for Sagittarius. Social expression and matters of women, finance and aesthetics can now receive an optimistic lift. A planet in Sagittarius can be playful and boundary-pushing,  compared to Scorpio’s desire for control. While Sagittarius is known for pushing boundaries in matters of opinion, its motive is to express the truth — without intending to strategically wound or destroy.

And having just said that, please note that on TUESDAY at 5:05 AM ET, a tense pattern between Mercury (how we need to think) and Mars (how we need to act) will release. This square between Mercury and Mars suggests conflict and other verbal provocations, possibly related to a yang/patriarchal concern (because Mars is in warrior Aries and Mercury is in hard-headed, patriarchal Capricorn). You’ll feel the burn more personally if you have a planet or angle around 4 degrees of Aries, Capricorn, Libra or Cancer. Be careful in traffic and around sharp objects.

Other planetary shifts and patterns of the week:

  • WEDNESDAY: The Aquarius Moon goes void at 11:53 AM ET until 2:44 PM ET. Chill and roll with whatever flakes and twists may disrupt your efforts to move forward in a straight line. Once in Pisces (the next sign), the Moon drives the rest of the work week with a need for vision, ideals, empathy and accommodation.
  • Keep on truckin’ through THURSDAY; Moon is traveling mostly free and clear. There’s an expansive expression around 7 PM ET, as Moon squares Jupiter, El Cosmic Sugar Daddy…followed by the visionary delights of a meet-up with Neptune around 8 PM ET.
  • Sometime before 6:36 AM ET on FRIDAY (possibly the day before), the Sun makes its annual meet-up with Pluto, which has occurred in Capricorn since 2009, when I started writing this forecast. Wow.  The Sun refers to heads of state and CEOs; Pluto suggests breakdown, news from underground and a reach for power. Pluto also refers to nuclear issues, mines, volcanoes, things coming to the surface after being long-buried. Watch the headlines. You are more personally affected if you have a planet around 20 degrees of Aries, Libra, Cancer or Capricorn — and if you haven’t booked an appointment to discuss this with your astrologer, you really should. Why? Because Pluto transits are life-altering. Resistance is futile — and that can be challenging.
  • The Pisces Moon goes void on FRIDAY at 9:25 AM ET for the rest of the day — giving you plenty of time to chill and process whatever transformation the Sun-Pluto meet-up presents.
  • SATURDAY: Moon enters Aries at 3:18 AM ET, needing to get where it’s going before anyone else, meaning not now, but RIGHT NOW. Note the potential for courage, assertion or aggression around 7:12 PM ET, when the Moon meets up with warrior Mars.
  • SUNDAY: A day of action and release, as two patterns in effect all week will be exact. Mercury (how we need to think) meets up with Saturn (necessary control) at 8:31 AM ET, facilitating practical, no-nonsense ideas and communication that some may find heavy-handed or downright depressing. Countering that sobriety is the first Jupiter-Neptune square of 2019, exact at 2:01 PM ET. This is likely to be a week for big news involving the press, oceans, legal matters, foreigners, refugees, scandals, churches, faith, oil, drugs (including CBD), film, spirits of all kinds, etc., etc., etc. Also countering the Mercury-Saturn sobriety: a harmony between Mercury and Neptune, suggesting no small amount of idealism. So either the big idea is either a heavy-handed approach to an imaginary concern…or it is a practical solution, applied with actual vision. If it’s coming out of P45’s head, I reckon it would be the former.

And now, the news.

I really wanted to watch the Golden Globes last night, and not just because I would have been happy to see a few people I’ve met take the stage. I know you know how that feels, because I’m sure you’ve crossed paths with one or two celebrities in your life, too. This concludes the Jupiter (big) square Neptune (glamour, film, charisma) portion of this forecast.

Anyhoo….what did the critics have to say about the show? That it “wasn’t any fun” — as if anything would be FUN with 27 planets including the Moon in “let’s get down to business” CAPRICORN with Venus at the last degree of SCORPIO. Sheesh! (Actually there was some fun, but apparently it was all off-camera — though how interesting that most in these pix are wearing standard-issue Capricorn black). With Uranus just turning direct, and the Moon squaring Uranus late last night, we’d expect upsets, and there were plenty. Bohemian Rhapsody (how very Uranus direct meets Jupiter square Neptune) won Best Drama; Green Book won for Best Comedy. Freddie Mercury, though now deceased, has transiting Uranus (surprise!) exactly opposing his Venus at 28 Libra. We can appreciate his disruptive social expression, even though he’s no longer among us. The horoscope lives forever, doncha’ know.

But what really stole the show — say the critics — was host Sandra Oh’s touching tribute to her parents, who were there to see her win the night in so many ways. Yep, honor and respect for parents definitely would rule on a night dominated by so many planets in Capricorn. We don’t have a birth time for Ms. Oh, but she is a Cancer with Moon perhaps in Cancer. What jumps out at me is her Jupiter-Neptune conjunction (Jupiter at 27 Scorpio; Neptune at 0 Sagittarius), which transiting Venus activated over these past few days. We can see how this would be an apt time for her to shine. Interesting to note that Jupiter and Neptune are in a strong relationship in her horoscope…and also in current planetary patterns. I see this all the time. Astrology is amazing — and it turns out that the Jupiter-Neptune square is such big news that it took over the whole forecast.

Now is the time to book your consultation to plan 2019 — especially if you haven’t seen your astrologer in over a year. You’re due for a check-up — and I can’t wait to see you in person or connect with you by phone.

Thank you for reading this forecast. No time to proof it before hitting “post,” so apologies for any typos.

Sunday 1/6/2019: New Moon/Eclipse in Capricorn; Dominant Patterns in 2019; Uranus Direct; the 116th Congress

Happy New Moon in Capricorn!

With this short holiday week it’s hard to believe the weekend is upon us again. And practically gone, as I write this on Sunday.

Moon has been in Capricorn, since 1:55 PM ET on Friday. Until 8:28 PM ET on Saturday (last night), it was a dead Moon, i.e., the end of the lunar cycle.  That would explain a feeling of listlessness or restlessness you may have had until today, as you sensed something new was just about the corner, but you weren’t sure what. Now that the new cycle has begun, take a few minutes to focus your intentions and make a list to carry you through until the next New Moon on February 4th.

Capricorn is an earthy, enterprising, social-climbing energy which means business like no other sign in the zodiac. Capricorn knows how to use resources (including people) to get what it needs, which is to make things happen and move things forward. This New Moon chart has three other planets in Capricorn. Mercury, having just entered Capricorn on Friday, is at the Aries Point, demanding an end to pie-in-the-sky theories in favor of practical, “show me” deals. Saturn has been in Capricorn since December 2016, and in this chart we see the Sun and Moon moving away from Saturn’s focused ambition and/or squeeze.  Where are they heading? On to Pluto, marching relentlessly through the back third of Capricorn, galvanizing and/or exposing all who are striving to die with the most power, resources and other toys.

This New Moon is at 15 degrees of Capricorn. If you have a planet or angle around 15 Capricorn, Cancer, Aries or Libra, your horoscope is activated more than most. The Sabian Symbol for the New Moon is “Boys and girls in gymnasium suits.” Sabian Sage Blain Bovee suggests we apply this symbol with a mind to “a naked approach to life as a wholesome training for future potentials; flexibility and fitting attire for what one wishes to master.” Let the games begin — and let’s see how this Sabian Symbol plays in the headlines. Did you know that “gymnasium” literally means to train naked? Me, neither!

Meanwhile, this New Moon activates two noteworthy midpoints. A midpoint is the halfway point between any two planets in a horoscope. These midpoints respond to planetary transits, just as planets do. Here we have the Sun and Moon in touch with the Mars/Uranus midpoint, and the Saturn/Pluto midpoint. An activated Mars/Uranus midpoint suggests potentially daring or reckless willpower/action; Saturn/Pluto suggests a ruthless application of ambition against the threat of great loss.

As you can see from the chart, Saturn and Pluto are just beginning to make contact with each other. They will not make an exact connection until January 12, 2020, but the agenda this impending meet-up symbolizes is one of the dominant patterns of 2019. Saturn refers to structure, control, authority, patriarchy, limitations. Pluto refers to breakdown, power, transformation. Together in Capricorn, they suggest a focused ambitious authoritarian initiative in government and/or corporate affairs, launched under likely duress or threat of loss. The last Saturn-Pluto conjunction was in 1982, in Libra; the one before that was in 1947 in Leo. Upside potential: perhaps the world finally makes a serious effort to tackle the climate crisis. Or else.

Another dominant pattern for 2019 in this New Moon is the first of three squares between Jupiter and Neptune (exact on January 13th, June 9th and September 21st). Pushing the limits of faith? In Sagittarius, Jupiter refers to expansion and/or excess in matters including, but not limited to: opinion, dogma, horses, liver, pancreas, optimism, bombast, foreigners, media, law. In Pisces, Neptune refers to fish, oceans, drugs, spirits, lies, fog, refugees, victims, gurus, viruses, chemicals, toxins, suicide, etc.  Here’s one of many headlines reflecting this pattern: “Japan’s Sushi King Pays $3 Million for Giant BlueFin Tuna.” That’s one BIG (Jupiter) FISH (Neptune), and it wouldn’t command such a high price if it weren’t so SCARCE (Saturn-Sun-Pluto conjunct in Capricorn)

In other news, we see the potential of shake-ups and/or revelations in the New Moon chart with rebel Uranus at a standstill. Uranus turns direct TODAY at 3:26 PM ET, less than 24 hours after the New Moon. Watch the headlines for more stories than we’ve already seen involving technological advances, aviation, accidents, seismic action and cosmic revelation.  Example: U.S. airline pilots write letter to P45, urging an end to the government shutdown, as TSA employees without paychecks call in sick. In your own personal world, you’ll feel the need for a break more personally if you have a planet or angle around 28 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.

Set in Washington D.C., note the angles of the New Moon chart: 22 Taurus (Midheaven) and 28 Leo (Ascendant). close to the angles of P45’s horoscope. Right. Him again. So what else is new? Challenging a regal projection of willpower is Venus at 28 Scorpio, suggesting ruthlessness, honor and tenacity in matters involving women, aesthetics, money and social expression. Mars in Aries adds a need for crusading assertion or action, in harmony with that ruthlessness. Hmm.

This New Moon has extra potency for planting seeds, as it is also a partial solar eclipse.

A Solar Eclipse can act like a “bottleneck” of energy. Light flowing from the Sun is temporarily interrupted, focusing attention on that interrupted point, allowing something new and possibly fragile to enter the picture and grow. And here I would be thinking of Michael, the kindhearted policeman in the storybook Make Way for Ducklings, who stopped the flow of traffic on Beacon Street so Mr. and Mrs. Mallard and their brood of eight could safely make their way to the Boston Public Garden. Got that?

Depending on what degree of the zodiac an eclipse falls, it will later be activated when another planet makes contact with that same degree. Saturday’s New Moon/Eclipse happens at 15 degrees of Capricorn. It will be triggered this month by Mercury (on January 15th) and by Mars (on January 23rd). Saturn will trigger the eclipse on February 4th. Those are dates to watch for a potential surge of action — especially the 23rd.

And now, the news, starting with some thoughts on the horoscope for the 116th Congress. Here is the chart:

What drives this Congress? A Moon in Sagittarius, seeking to be respected for its righteous opinion. About what? Probably shared resources and values, suggested by the Moon’s placement in the 8th House (of “other people’s money/values and other stuff”). Exhibit A: House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy made sure to let everyone know (as he introduced Nancy Pelosi as new Speaker of the House) that “Republicans will always choose personal freedom over government control.” Exhibit B: Congresswoman and Dancing Queen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s modest proposal of at 70% tax on the super-rich.

This Sag Moon is an almost-dead Moon, more apt for cleaning up old messes than starting new construction. Hmmm. Sag is a Fire Sign, relying on improvisation for direction. This particular Sag Moon is fearfully focused, tempering its expression. Focused on what? Matters involving homeland/home/family security. Put those items at the top of its agenda — and add another megadose of optimism, faith and belief in its own press. We saw that focus right away when Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was sworn in, surrounded by children.

Mars in Aries is the ruler of 116th Congress chart, demanding attention and seeking bold action.  This Mars is more effective than the passive-aggressive/steamy Mars in Pisces that ruled the chart of the 115th Congress. Still, its action potential may limited by its placement in the 12th house. How so? Mars also refers to anger, and the 12th is the house of the self-undoing and hidden enemies. On the other hand, a 12th house Mars is apt for a surgeon or a quarterback — i.e., one who is seeking to apply its ego drives for the benefit of a team. Which will it be?

Meanwhile, it should not surprise anyone to see Mercury (communication, mindset) in pie-in-the-sky Sagittarius in a challenging square to Mars. We can only imagine the bickering to come, as the Dems control the House — but not the Senate…and even among themselves, we expect heated arguments between the incoming rebel forces and the old standard-bearers. Same among the Republicans, too. Already some are going bonkers over newbie Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), who was heard at an event outside of business hours declaring that the Democrats would “impeach the (expletive ),” to demonstrate to her son that “bullies don’t win.”

Note that Mercury is close to the end of Sagittarius — at 27 degrees, near the Aries Point, and also conjunct the Galactic Center. Did that make your head spin? Good, because the Galactic Center is the ginormous center of our galaxy around which everything in it revolves. With Mercury at the Galactic Center in the 116th Congress chart, we see the potential for its mindset/communication to express reeeeeeeeeally BIG PICTURE ideas; i.e., ideas that consider their effect on the whole world; stakeholders, as opposed to shareholders.

Another note about how the 116th Congress needs to think: Mercury is trine (in harmony) to Uranus, suggesting an easy flow of ideas that are innovative, humanitarian, tech-savvy and potentially revolutionary. It is the closest aspect, giving it added punch. Uranus is also quite strong in the 116th Congress chart — in the 1st House, where everyone can clearly see it. It is at a standstill, not quite ready to move forward. But y’know what? In the horoscope for the 117th Congress — in 2021 —  the chart ruler is once again Mars in high-functioning Aries — 28 degrees, to be precise — which is where Uranus is right now. Revolutionary initiatives that can’t get off the ground in the 116th, may have their day in 2021. Plus, Mars will be in the 1st House — a much stronger position. I find this hopeful.

In the 10th House we see the Capricorn Sun, sandwiched between Saturn and Pluto, a.k.a. a rock and a hard place. But the limiting squeeze and “resistance is futile” potential of that placement is softened by a harmony with Neptune, planet of empathy, compassion, healing, drugs, dreams, oil, fog, oceans, etc. A kinder, gentler corporate/government institution? One that is more inclined to separate fact from fiction, and toss the latter in the dumpster? One can only hope. When Saturn (fact/real) and Neptune (fiction/surreal) are in harmony, it suggests a balance between ideals and practicality. When Saturn and Neptune are in conflict, we get a bubble of baloney, waiting to burst.  Cue the 2015-2016 Saturn-Neptune square now, please. What happened back then. Anyone remember?

For all its focus on ideas and debate, the chart for the 116th Congress has no planets in Air Signs (Gemini, Libra or Aquarius) — and neither did the 115th Congress, frankly. Astrologer Noel Tyl describes this imbalance as a difficulty in “seeing the self as others do” and/or a “awkwardness” in understanding society’s norms of intellectual expression. Horoscopes with no Air are often not big talkers; writing is a studied and strategic form of expression. To be continued…and let’s note the potential for significant action/combat on January 14th, 15th, 25th, 26th and 27th. For starters.

In other news, fun stuff reflecting the “far out!” potential of Uranus turning direct, with extra vision added by Neptune (FANTASTIC) square Jupiter (JOURNEY):

I’m still grooving to my Headspace app — the meditation thingamajig I started using on last month’s Mars (head) – Neptune (meditation/space) conjunction. I just completed its ten-day course on how to use the energy of anger, which made perfect sense for ten days with Mars at the Aries Point (demanding attention) and moving into Aries (the sign it rules, where it functions with high efficiency.

No sleeping in tomorrow, as there’s no Moon void and much work to be accomplished. Onward!

Thank you for reading this forecast.

Monday 12/31/2018: Sneak Peek at the Week; Mars enters Aries

Happy New Year’s Eve!

This is when I usually outline major patterns for the New Year. However, the action in just the first WEEK merits several paragraphs, so the rest of the year may have to wait.  Suffice it to say that if your plan is to hit the ground running in 2019, planetary patterns have your back. January is supercharged by a need for action and courage that carries into February. Do pay attention to any primal spark that currently commands your attention, as it may well develop into an effective crusade. Your quest for world domination may also be facilitated by patterns suggesting a focused reach for empowerment,  a sudden break and/or release — all before January 6th. Two eclipses this month — a New Moon on the 5th and a Full Supermoon on the 21st — accelerate the pace.

The last day of 2018 is driven by the Moon in depth-seeking Scorpio. What a perfect energy for tossing out dead wood and clearing space in preparation for the New Year. Purge, baby, purge! Send those dust bunnies packing! Make a list of what you no longer wish to carry — and burn it. Spend some time focusing on what you would like to receive in 2019. For more New Year’s Eve/Day traditions, Tarot Diva Beth Owl’s Daughter has written them all up for you. The need for emotional substance and control continues through New Year’s Day, as the Scorpio Moon continues its reign.

Meanwhile….

  • MORE ABOUT MONDAY (TODAY): Action, action, action — in ways that demand notice — as warrior/hero/badass Mars leaves Pisces for Aries at 9:20 PM ET TODAY. Aries is the sign ruled by Mars. When a planet is in the sign it rules, it functions with high effectiveness. Is that good or bad? I don’t know. What are you trying to accomplish?
  • At its best, Mars in Aries is courageous, inspiring, pioneering and a fighter for the underdog.  It has great physical stamina and prowess. At its worst, Mars in Aries can be way too macho — fighting for the sake of fighting; needing to win at any cost; utterly self-absorbed, impatient and reckless. Mars rules steel, men, desire, guns and war — and at 0 degrees of Aries, it suggests that such matters will be prominent.
  • You are personally affected by Mars at the Aries Point if you have a planet, angle or midpoint around 0 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra and/or Capricorn. And since I’ve heard from more than one Avid Reader asking for more on the Aries Point and what it means personally, I will be pleased to send you a few custom paragraphs on where the Aries Point falls in your horoscope, how it drives you and how you are likely to be affected by Mars sitting right on top of it. Hit reply to this email and send me your birth data if you think I don’t have it. Then toss $54 into my Cosmic Tip Jar. I will send insights within a day or so.
  • TUESDAY: Moon continues to seek depth and control in Scorpio. Aspects from other planets to the Moon are not jarring, suggesting ease and harmony of application. Moon goes void at 5:26 PM ET. Time to chill; focus on routine concerns and refrain from making a mountain of crisis out of a molehill.
  • WEDNESDAY: Humming in the background for the past several days is the Sun’s annual meet-up (technical term: conjunction) with Saturn. The Sun refers to leaders and vitality. Saturn is a karma cop, symbolizing structure, limits, ambition and control. Watch the headlines. You’ll feel this heavy focus more personally if you have planets around 11 degrees of Capricorn, Cancer, Aries or Libra. Meanwhile, Moon soars into Sagittarius at 3:53 AM ET, lifting spirits and sights into the stratosphere. A Sag Moon facilitates righteous opinions, foreign affairs, a walk in the woods — anything that pushes boundaries.
  • THURSDAY: Lots and lots of stuff. A Sag Moon drives the day with optimism, with the heavy Sun-Saturn conjunction in the rear view mirror. Plus, Moon squares Neptune at 7:01 AM ET — adding more sugarplum visions to the morning. Note your dreams upon waking and double check your schedules and directions, to minimize disorientation. Noon ET marks the official start of the 116th Congress. A look at that chart merits several paragraphs, already written — but they need an edit. Next forecast!
  • FRIDAY: Mercury trines Uranus at 12:12 AM ET — potential described above. Moon goes void at 12:41 PM ET.  Once it enters Capricorn at  1:55 PM ET, it’ll be poised to take care of business. Sun sextiles Neptune at 2:58 PM ET — apt for artists, healing, refugees and all other Neptune themes. At 10:40 PM ET, Mercury leaves Sagittarius for practical Capricorn, chasing after the Capricorn Moon.
  • SATURDAY: New Moon in Capricorn at 8:28 PM ET — it’s an eclipse — and significant in world affairs. Stay tuned for details.
  • SUNDAY: Shake, rattle and roll. Moon makes its weekly clash with Pluto and Uranus; Uranus turns direct; freedom, disruption, innovation, seismic activity likely to make headlines.

And now, the news.

“The Lives They Lived” — the NYT’s latest Sunday Magazine features more than the usual number of people who passed away under Neptune in Pisces/Mars in Pisces circumstances (i.e., self-sacrificing/undoing).

Meanwhile, WaPo  offers funny writer Dave Barry’s re-cap of 2018. Buh-bye — and don’t let the door hit you on the way out. It’s “2019 Preview” features predictions by reporters — most of which are supported by planetary patterns. Not bad, WaPo!

UPDATE: on the explosion that lit up the New York skyline a couple of days ago. Remember I said  in the last forecast that the chart for the event did NOT look like an explosion? Electric, yes — explosion, no. Turns out it wasn’t an explosion. It was a plasma discharge caused by a tech snafu. Technical term for the event: electrical arc.   Astrology is amazing.

UPDATE: Barack Obama has Venus at 0 Cancer, a.k.a. the Aries Point. With transiting Mars activating that Venus, we could expect his aesthetic values to demand our attention. Heck, even without that Mars transit, we’re always going to be hearing about Barack Obama’s aesthetic values. When he is 90, and Certain Other People are long gone, we will be hearing what Barack Obama had for lunch.

UPDATE: Avid Readers will recall that Elizabeth Warren was born with Sun and Uranus at the Aries Point. With Mars now at the Aries Point, her horoscope has been triggered. “Elizabeth Warren Announces She is Running for President in 2020.” Of course she is. Given the current state of her horoscope — even without a confirmed birth time —  there was never a doubt.

  • REMINDER: I will be pleased to send you a few custom paragraphs on where the Aries Point falls in your horoscope, how it drives you and how you are likely to be affected by Mars sitting right on top of it. Hit reply to this email and send me your birth data if you think I don’t have it. Then toss $54 into my Cosmic Tip Jar. I will send insights within a day or so.
  • OTHER REMINDER: I have not given myself a raise in several years. Rates will increase on January 15th. Any service purchased before January 15th may be scheduled anytime in 2019.

Thank you for reading this forecast. I cherish each and every one of you, whether you’ve been an Avid Reader for years or have only just discovered my astrological musings. I hope you always find it informative and entertaining.

Closing with this gem from Sunny Daze, a human who posts on the Facebook. It’s the best prediction I’ve seen yet:

Friday 12/28/2018 & the Weekend: Courage, Action and Fog (Mars and Neptune)

TGIF!

The Virgo Moon is void as of 11:27 AM ET. Focus on routine organizing concerns and roll with the twists and flakes that may disrupt your efforts to move forward in a straight line. From my experience, Moon voids are excellent times for writing, including writing these forecasts. Go figure.

At 3:23 PM ET, Moon enters Libra, shifting the day’s need to one of people-pleasing, fairness and diplomacy. A harmony between Venus (money, aesthetics, women) and Pluto (power, resources) at 4:27 PM ET might reflect a bit of balance that may be back in markets. For now.

SATURDAY begins with the Third Quarter Moon at 4:34 AM ET. Whatever illumination received from last week’s Full Moon gets a push or a shove. At 10:41 AM ET, squares Saturn, suggesting an authoritarian advance or wet blanket. Spirits may be lifted minutes later by a harmony with expansive Jupiter at 11 AM ET.

SUNDAY morning is notable for Moon’s weekly clash with Pluto at 3:23 AM ET. Power play or emotional catharsis? Watch the headlines. Moon’s weekly clash with Uranus occurs at 5:53 PM ET, suggesting a disruption of the status quo. Moon then goes void until 5:53 PM ET, when it plunges into the emotional depths of Scorpio.

The Scorpio need for depth, substance and control continues through MONDAY. If you are working today, your quest for world domination is supported by an easy flow among the Moon and Sun-Saturn (will power; authority/structure), exact between 2:46 PM and 5:09 PM ET. New Year’s Eve may be magical enough, with Moon in harmony with Neptune at 10:11 PM ET. However, the potential for action and assertion — for better or worse — can’t be discounted, as warrior Mars leaves Pisces for Aries at 9:20 PM ET. Action involving power and resources (think: megabucks) would be one potential, as Mars will be in touch with a midpoint between Jupiter and Pluto. Action with unintended consequences (think: shipwreck) would be another potential, as Mars is also in touch with the fixed star Scheat (affectionately known as sh*t). Judging from the previous link, Harvey Weinstein, Rudy Giuliani and Julian Assange should be making news any minute now.

The rest of the first week of 2019 is action-packed: New Moon (with an eclipse), the annual Sun-Saturn conjunction — and more! Stay tuned to this channel for continuing updates.

Ready to plan a strategy for 2019? Astrology can help you maximize potential and timing. Your 60-minute check-up will be jam-packed with insight and specific dates for opportunities. Check-up? Yes, a check-up. Astrologers are not a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Treat us like dentists and hairdressers —  and see us every six months to a year.

And now, the news.

Mostly a lot of Mars (action, aggression) demanding prominence at the Aries Point, and especially in the “it’s the end of the world as we know it” sign of Pisces.

In other news…

UPDATE: on Michelle Obama, who is now the most admired woman in the U.S., replacing Hillary Clinton. Not surprising at all, given what’s going on in her horoscope. File this under “told ya so” back in 2016.

UPDATE: on Kevin Spacey, whose name truly reflects planetary patterns in his horoscope (birth time unconfirmed). How so? An exact square between his Leo Sun and spacey Neptune, that’s how so. Things are not as they seem. The structures of Mr. Spacey’s reality are dissolving, suggested by 1) an eclipse to his Leo Sun at the end of July; and 2) his natal Saturn (reality) under the dissolving influence of Neptune (exact on January 13th). On Monday, the Boston Globe reported that he was to be arraigned on charges of felony sexual assault. The arraignment is scheduled to happen at 11 AM on  January 7th, in Nantucket, MA. Neptune (surreal, film, delusion) is all over this case, as apparently there is video evidence. Not only that, but Mr. Spacey’s surreal response to the charges was to post a video of himself as Frank Underwood, his killed-off character from “House of Cards.” And this was after saying nothing on social media for over a years. Ready? All together now: “Weeeeeeeeeiiiiiiird!” Astro students, guess what’s on the ascendant of the chart for the arraignment? Neptune. Weird!

Also under the influence of Neptune: Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed al-Maktoum, the Emirati princess whose effort to escape Dubai failed under a Sun-Neptune meet-up on March 4th. She was “seized on a yacht off the coast of India”, never to be heard from again. Then a British documentary about her escape aired in the UK earlier this month– on a Sun-Neptune square (see a pattern here?). This week, photos were published of the princess having a casual meal with Mary Robinson, the former UN high commissioner on human rights and president of Ireland. Not everyone is buying the “everything’s fine” story line.

Sheikha Latifa was born in Dubai on December 6th, 1985 — no birth time available. She’s a Sagittarius, driven by a perfection-seeking Virgo Moon. Skydiving is one of her passions, and we see that need for risk and excitement in the Sun-Uranus conjunction in her horoscope (and possibly a Moon-Uranus square, too).  Her Neptune is at the Aries Point, suggesting vision, scandal, idealism and other Neptune themes are likely to be prominent. Depression would be something to watch out for, with Mercury (mindset) and Venus (affection) in a tight meet-up with controlling Saturn.

In the documentary it was revealed that the princess began planning her escape seven years ago. That’s when transiting Pluto in Capricorn met up with her natal Neptune in 2010, supercharging a dream (of escape?). Then transiting Uranus grabbed the torch and carried it into 2012.  Meanwhile, transiting Neptune squared her Mercury, Venus and Saturn in the first half of the 2010s.  More magical thinking, along with a potential meltdown of her reality (compare this with Kevin Spacey’s current Neptune-Saturn meltdown). The princess launched her disappearing act as transiting Neptune squared her boundary-pushing Sagittarius Sun all through 2017 and early 2018. With Neptune now moving away from her Sun, the fog has lifted — sort of — with those photos of Mrs. Robinson (!??!) as evidence of her presence in the material world. I suspect she has a big change in store in 2019, given patterns in her horoscope. Wish we had a birth time.

Here are a few happier Neptune-themed stories, i.e., without potentially victimized fairytale princesses. They reflect Monday’s square between Mercury (mindset) and Neptune (make-believe):

What’s Neptune doing in your horoscope? Setting you up for a new creative passion or dream? Neptune is one of the most challenging energies to manage in the material world. That’s why it’s good to know when it’s pulling focus in your life.

Thank you for reading this forecast.

Monday 12/24/2018: Sneak Peek at a Holiday Week; Money Matters

The week begins with the Moon in Cancer. Its need for security may be jolted around 9:50 AM ET by its weekly clash with rebel Uranus, after which it goes void. Oh, did the market just drop below 22,000? That could be called a jolt.

But then…happy happy…merry merry…as soon as the Moon enters Leo at 11:58 AM ET. Upside: it’s party time! Downside: roars of regal entitlement from drama kings and queens who feel they are not being recognized for their inherent superiority. Adding big brushstrokes of rose is a square (tension) between Mercury (how we need to think) and Neptune (fog; idealism), exact tonight at 7:33 PM ET. Upside: there’s magic in the air. Downside: deception and bewilderment.

The rest of the week goes like this:

  • TUESDAY: Moon in Leo all day, supported by easy connections to Mercury and Jupiter in the early part of the day; Santa Claus was likely to be generous. A square between the Leo Moon and Venus in Scorpio may be experienced as a spat over values and aesthetic expression, sometime around 4:37 PM ET
  • WEDNESDAY: Happy Kwanzaa! The Leo Moon goes void with a sigh at 10:36 AM ET, entering Virgo at 12:50 PM ET. You can sleep in, space out or return unwanted gifts during the void. Once the Moon enters Virgo, you can apply its organizing and perfecting drive to putting your house in order and making to-do lists for 2019. Have you thought about scheduling your annual check-up with your astrologer? Now is the time to map out your year. How will the “Big Dream” potential of 2019’s three Jupiter-Neptune squares be reflected in your life?
  • THURSDAY: The busiest day of the week, as the Virgo Moon makes contact with six planets. Righteous ambition colors the early morning, followed by a potential miscue around noon ET, as the Moon is opposed by foggy Neptune. A squawk in the headlines may occur at the close of business, as the Moon is square by a sloppy-thinking Mercury in Sagittarius. Money and values are on the table.
  • FRIDAY: the Virgo Moon goes void on a provocative opposition from Mars (combat, action, assertion) at 11:27 AM ET. Chill and focus on routine concerns until 3:23 PM ET, when the Moon enters Libra. In Libra, the need is fairness, balance and harmony in relationships. A change of perspective in values and social expression is suggested by a cooperative alignment between Venus (money, women, art) and Pluto (breakdown, transformation, power, resources) at 4:27 PM ET.
  • SATURDAY & SUNDAY: are driven mostly by the Moon in Libra. By now we will be noticing action hero Mars at the very end of Pisces. Stories of self-sacrifice are likely to make waves. Avid Readers will recall that a planet at the end of Pisces is oh-so-close to the beginning of Aries, also known as the Aries Point. When will Mars enter Aries? On MONDAY at 9:20 PM ET — New Year’s Eve. That’s about when we are likely to see significant action on the illumination and release received on the Dec 22nd Full Moon at 0 Cancer. Got that?

And now, the news.

Speaking of the Aries Point, it is not surprising to see people with planets at the Aries Point now making headlines in the wake of the Winter Solstice and that Full Moon. Add current patterns among Mercury, Jupiter and Neptune to the mix, and we see the potential for really big, dumb ideas made even dumber by fog, deception and delusion. Exhibit A: “What Was Steve Mnuchin Thinking? Three Possibilities” (after putting out an “alarming and confusing” press release on Sunday evening). Mr. Mnuchin (and his evil twin wife Louise Linton) was born on December 21st — with the Sun at the Aries Point. I imagine we will see more breaking news about him when Mars enters Aries next week.  In other news, we do not have a birth time for Fed Chairman Jerome Powell, we can see in his horoscope that he has Mars at the end of Pisces and Venus in early Aries, both within range of the Aries Point. He’s currently under attack from P45, who today claimed that “the central bank is the only problem our economy has!” What do you have at the Aries Point, hm?

Under the weekend’s Cancer Full Moon at the prominent Aries Point,  the need for nourishment and nurturing challenges the decidedly unemotional, status-seeking ambition of the Capricorn Sun. A farmer sheds light on the conflict like so: “Dairy farming is dying. After 40 ears, I’m done.”   This growing trend will be in our face once Uranus (technology, disruption) moves back into Taurus (food, earth) next April — and with truly revolutionary force in 2022.

Meanwhile, I looked at the charts for the potent Winter Solstice, set at Mt. Etna and in Banten, Indonesia. Both locales have aggressive Mars in Pisces and the Moon in contact with angles (extreme pressure points) in their respective charts. Indonesia was hit on Saturday by a freakish and devastating tsunami; Mt. Etna erupted this morning. Coincidence or conspiracy? I do not know.

UPDATE: the drone sightings at Gatwick Airport, which shut the place down last week. I was scratching my head at this one, writing:

I’d expect to see this next story on a square or opposition (not a Sun-Uranus trine), but “Drone Sightings Cause Disruption at Gatwick Airport”  does feature the Uranus in Aries theme of robot warriors in flight — taken to Sun in Sagittarius new heights.

Now it appears that others were perplexed and bewildered over these drone sightings, too — with some going so far as to suggest that there were no actual drones sighted at all! Police are still saying there were drones…but still…what a fascinating reflection of the bewilderment over high-flying ideas —  suggested by planetary patterns (Mercury-Jupiter in Sagittarius square Neptune).

In closing, a couple of stories reflecting the upside potential of the current whether forecast.  Exhibit A“Fishermen Rescued by Cruise Ship in ‘Christmas Miracle.'”   Neptune refers to fishermen, ships and faith. Exhibit B: take Mercury conjunct Jupiter in Sagittarius (a “sky’s the limit” idea, arguably short on exact details, but boosted by a high-functioning element of luck from a foreign land). Add Venus trine Neptune (heartfelt charity; a dream come true). Mix it with the Sun at the Aries Point — of course we are going to hear about it. From WaPo: “A girl in Mexico attached her Christmas list to a balloon. A man across the border found it.” Guess what happened next…and cue Kleenex box now, please.

Thank you for reading this forecast. May faith in all that is light and good prevail against the alternative.

Friday 12/21/2018 & the Weekend: Winter Solstice; Full Moon in Cancer

Happy almost Winter Solstice and TGIF!

The buzz continues this Friday, driven by the Moon in blah blah blah Gemini, seeking to be the cleverest kid in the room. How clever a kid can be on a morning that started with the Moon challenged by foggy Neptune (at 8:59 AM ET) remains to be seen. However, the quest for a big, righteously sloppy idea continues through lunch, courtesy of 1) a trine between Venus and Neptune and 2) a meet-up between Mercury and Jupiter in “sky’s the limit” Sagittarius.

Meanwhile until 5:23 PM ET, the Sun is at the last degree of Sagittarius, pushing boundaries with prominence for all it’s worth. Then a more sobering executive authority takes the reins, as the Sun enters Capricorn. This is the Winter Solstice — a turning point. Now is the time when light begins to push back against darkness — and prevail — at least in the Northern Hemisphere. It’s also time for practical application of Sagittarian ideals — most appropriate in corporate and government institutions.

This Solstice sets the tone for the next three months. A quick glance at the chart set in Washington D.C. has:

  • The Gemini Moon in the 12th House (of the self-undoing). It is the ruler of this chart and it is exactly square the Midheaven, and also square to the midpoint between Mars and Neptune (both at the MC). Translation (courtesy of Reinhold Ebertin’s “The Constellation of Stellar Influences”): irritability, weakness, infection, lacking ego-consciousness. To this I would add pixie-dust, scandal and fanaticism. If there is an upside, it may be in the form of charisma, inspiration or healing.
  • The Moon is square to Mars — suggesting combat.
  • Mercury and Jupiter are squaring Neptune, suggesting more pie-in-the-sky thinking.
  • Meanwhile, Saturn (control, authority, patriarchy) and Pluto (power, resources, breakdown) are running wild in PTB Capricorn. Both are in the 7th House — which refers to significant others and the public. Saturn is on an angle of this horoscope, a suggestion of empowerment.

If you wanted to see how the Winter Solstice is likely to be reflected in events in other countries, run a chart for the capital of those countries — e.g., Paris, Rome, etc.

Meanwhile…

On SATURDAY, Moon goes void at 9:23 AM ET until 11:28 AM ET, when it enters Cancer. A Cancer Moon seeks emotional and homeland security. Under a Cancer Full Moon, the need for compassion and nurturing challenges the decidedly unemotional, status-seeking ambition of the Capricorn Sun. This lunation sheds light on the conflict with exceptional prominence, as it happens at the Aries Point: 0 degrees Cancer and 0 degrees Capricorn. In your own personal world, if you have a planet or angle around 0 Cancer, Capricorn, Aries and Libra, you are more affected than most.

The Sabian Symbols for the Full Moon are faaaaaaascinating and apt, as always. Ready? Stick these into your newsfeed and smoke ’em! For the Capricorn Sun: “An Indian chief demanding recognition.” For the Cancer Moon: “A furled and unfurled flag displayed from a vessel.” Hmmm….two flags — one clearly visible; the other hidden. Who is really giving the orders on this ship, eh?? Things may not be as they seem.

Sabian Sage Blaine Bovee observes that “an Indian chief does not normally have to demand recognition, suggesting [it represents] an emergent power.” He suggests we apply these two Symbols with a mind to “issues of personal power and the dynamics of the process between furling and unfurling. Think of power potentials under wraps; bold displays of power. Here’s more on that Indian chief; here’s more on those two flags. Action on whatever illumination is released in this Full Moon is likely to be triggered on New Year’s Eve, when Mars will be at 0 Aries — the Mother of all Aries Point degrees.

Moon continues in Cancer on SUNDAY, mostly with comfort and joy during waking hours. Feel free to finish your holiday shopping, as there is no Moon void to flake you out. However, at 8:23 PM ET, Moon makes its weekly clash with ruthless Pluto, suggesting a potential emotional catharsis or power play.

MONDAY begins with an electric buzz, as Moon squares rebel Uranus at 9:50 AM ET — then goes void until 11:58 AM ET. The rest of the day is driven by Moon in love love love-me-do Leo. Christmas Eve is ripe for music and sugarplums dancing in your head, as Mercury (how we need to think) squares Neptune (fog and other intangibles) at 7:33 PM ET. You might want to double check the directions to wherever place you’re heading that night.

In other news, while I have not increased my rates in three years, I will be raising them on January 15th. I will send a reminder after the first of the year so you may purchase 2019 reports, consultations and gift certificates before prices goes up. It is a joy to be of service!

And now, the news.

Last time we wrote about P45 was on December 5th:

who seems to get crankier and crabbier with every passing day, and not just because that P45 baby blimp followed him to Buenos Aires. Or that Vladimir Putin and MBS high-fived like total besties at the cool kids table, leaving the Donald scowling all alone. Same scenario today at National Cathedral. George W. Bush did not offer P45 a piece of candy. Well, he does have Mercury (how he needs to think) in Cancer (the Crab). And karma cop Saturn is just days away from the third opposition to that Mercury.  How many days? Five. Depression much? Keep an eye on Dec 9-10, followed by 11 days of angry outbursts and action.

…11 days of angry outbursts and action, eh? Put that one on transiting Mars at 16-22 of Pisces, where it triggers his reckless Uranus, toxic South Node and eclipsed Sun-Moon opposition.  In case you haven’t heard, he’ll be “proud” to partially shut down the government if Congress won’t give him the billions he wants for his wretched border wall. WaPo has a countdown clock on its website; the deadline is midnight tonight. You know what that means? It means a potentially ridiculous delay on getting my passport renewed, as the State Department might be closed. But that’s OK, I’m willing to wait, so long as that wall exists only in his mind — and Robert Mueller’s office is exempt from any shutdown (it is).

Meanwhile, he’s impulsively pulling troops out of Syria and Afghanistan — but that’s OK, because Russia, Iran and Turkey are happy, right? Makes ya think about the two flags in those Full Moon Sabian Symbols, doesn’t it? Defense Secretary Jim “Mad Dog” Mattis thought about it, and submitted a scathing letter of resignation that’s left most sensible minds worried sick about what might happen next. More crankiness around Dec 30th – Jan 2nd, suggested by patterns in his horoscope.  We’ll see a repeat of this month’s “days of angry outbursts and action” pattern at the end of April, when Mars will be at 16 – 22 degrees of Gemini…and again in mid-September, when Mars will be at 16 – 22 degrees of Virgo.  We should also mark the last ten days of March and August 6 – 17th for more hotheaded Mars outbursts.

You know who else is triggered by transiting Mars at 20-22 degrees of Pisces, Virgo, Gemini and Sagittarius? Barack Obama, whose natal Mars is 22 Virgo — right on the U.S. natal Neptune and square the U.S. Mars at 20 Gemini. How has he made news over the past several days? By playing Santa Claus (action in service to others) at a local children’s hospital. So easy for him to do with his natal Venus at 0 Cancer (he can’t help but be known for caring and nurturing). We’ll see more stories about his nurturing nature in the wake of the Full Moon. Meanwhile, a stretch of highway near Occidental College was named in his honor. Mars refers to cars. Astrology is amazing.

Alan Dershowitz’s horoscope  is also triggered by planets at 20-22 Pisces, Virgo, Gemini and Sagittarius. He has Neptune at 20 Virgo and with transiting Mars opposing his Neptune this week, suggesting a potentially scandalous provocation. What happened? He denied allegations that he received sexual favors from women under the direction of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. I’m not convinced we’ve heard the last about this — let’s wait until transiting Jupiter squares that natal Neptune in mid-February-ish.

In other news, who remembers that Beth Owl’s Daughter’s Tarot Card for all of 2018 was Justice? It was — and this week, Merriam-Webster announced its pick for 2018 Word of the Year: Justice.! And in fact, it has been heartening to see many stories reflecting true JUSTICE — even as they fly in the face of the craziness of these “interesting times.” For example:

Meanwhile, reflecting yesterday’s harmony between the Sun and Uranus: “Science Says: A big space crash likely made Uranus lop-sided.”   I’d expect to see this next story on a square or opposition, but “Drone Sightings Cause Disruption at Gatwick Airport”  does feature the Uranus in Aries theme of robot warriors in flight — taken to Sun in Sagittarius new heights.

Finally, Avid Reader Kay is back from her trip abroad. How did the rest of it go, after her unexpected layover in Vienna? Exactly as anticipated!! “Fantastic trip — will fill you in later!!” she writes. So happy she thought to call for insights before setting off on her journey.

Thank you for reading this forecast — and for sharing it with your friends. They are awesome — and so are you!

Tuesday 12/19/2018: More Sneak Peek at a Jam-Packed Week; Perpetual Motion

Wooo -hoo! What a Monday. Did you get everything done? I turbo-charged my way through tedious admin tasks that I generally avoid like the plague. But the day was driven by a “nothing is impossible” Aries Moon, and that’s where it will be when it meets up with rebel Uranus on TUESDAY at 2:21 AM ET? Surprise? We’ll see!

Also helping move mountains: a sextile (harmony) between action hero Mars and “power & resources” Pluto, exact early Monday morning.

Meanwhile, the shock of whatever Moon + Uranus has in store may fizzle, as Moon goes void immediately thereafter. It enters Taurus at 4:37 AM ET on TUESDAY, driving the next two and a half days with a need to build/maintain material security. Think about that, while you’re out there schmoozing at holiday soirees. Also consider that Taurus wrote the book on tidings of comfort and joy; feel free to indulge in such as you mooooove through this week.

The Taurus Moon goes void on WEDNESDAY at 7:42 PM ET and enters info-junkie Gemini on THURSDAY at 9:34 AM ET. Chill during the 14-hour void and resist impulse holiday shopping urges.  If you sleep through your alarm on Thursday, you probably won’t miss a thing.

Patterns in effect for the rest of the week are:

  • THURSDAY: the high-flying Sag Sun trines (harmonizes) with Uranus at 11:21 AM ET, adding easy innovation to the action this week. Creative technologies; unconventional alliances.
  • FRIDAY: super-busy, driven by the buzz buzz buzz of the Gemini Moon. Note your dreams in the AM, as Moon is squared by Neptune at 8:59 AM ET. Double check your communications and directions. A harmony between Venus and Neptune at 12:12 PM ET suggests aesthetic ideals and visions of sugarplums.
  • 30 minutes later, a sloppy — but high-flying Mercury in Sagittarius meets up with Jupiter (also in Sag, the sign it rules). This suggests big big news in the world of free speech, media, courts, athletics, dogma, collective beliefs, foreign affairs, travel — maybe even broad comedy.
  • It’s all made even more prominent because the Sun will be at the Aries Point all day. Thus a good portion of this big news is likely to involve heads of states and corporations, as the Sun refers to leaders. At 5:23 PM ET, the Sun enters Capricorn — a.k.a. the Winter Solstice. Avid Readers will recall that solstices and equinoxes are turning points — look here for further details.
  • But wait, there’s more! Emotions are on the rise this week, as the Moon is waxing full. On SATURDAY the Gemini Moon goes void at 9:28 AM ET; at 11:28 AM ET, Moon enters Cancer. A Cancer Moon needs emotional/family/homeland security, and it faces off against the patriarchal Capricorn Sun at the Aries Point — 0 degrees —  at 11:28 AM ET. Whatever illumination or release we receive in these areas, it is bound to attract attention. Change is in the air!

And now, the news.

Avid Readers are well aware that in the wake of the never-ending Uranus-Pluto square, coupled with the impending Saturn-Pluto meet-up (on January 12, 2020), the word “authoritarian” will continue to pepper the headlines. Saturn and Pluto are traveling through Capricorn, which adds corporate power and corruption to the mix. Kudos to the NYT for this riveting story, right on schedule:  “How McKinsey Helped Raise the Stature of Authoritarian Governments.”  Never heard of McKinsey? Even more reason to check ’em out, as these corporate power structures are likely to demand greater focus in the 2020’s.

Meanwhile…as anticipated the efforts of foreign adversaries to use social media to spread fake news for the purpose of controlling collective opinion are now being expanded and exposed. What planetary patterns are being reflected? In 2015 and 2016, Saturn  (control; malevolence) was in Sagittarius (publishing, foreign, boundary-pushing, opinion)…and it was square (challenging) Neptune (illusion)  in Pisces (faith). Now that Jupiter (expansion, good fortune) is in Sagittarius, the truth is coming out: “Russian 2016 Influence Operation Targeted African Americans on Social Media”  — in the NYT — and “Russian Disinformation Teams Targeted Robert S. Mueller III, Says Report Prepared for Senate.”

In other news, I confess I haven’t been paying much attention to SNL’s talented comedian Pete Davidson, even though his whirlwind courtship, engagement and subsequent  break-up with singer/songwriter Ariana Grande has been a big topic of astrological analysis on websites catering to a Certain Demographic. Apparently they started dating in May; rushed into an engagement, a condo and the adoption of a pet pig (none of which would be advised during a Mars retrograde). They broke up in October (with Venus retrograde in Scorpio).

We do not have a birth time for Mr. Davidson. He — like Ms. Grande — was born in 1993, the year of the exact Uranus-Neptune conjunction in Capricorn. That’s an aspect that seeks a disruptive ideal in matters of the Establishment. The old rules are simply not going to apply. Born on November 16 in Staten Island, Mr. Davidson has a Scorpio Sun in an intensely demanding pattern with Saturn and Pluto. His horoscope suggests an anguished childhood…an assessment confirmed in a quick Google search: “Pete Davidson Reveals Dark Childhood in New Interview.”   His father was a firefighter who died on 9/11…this is only one part of the heartache.

We could see how Mr. Davidson’s heavy mindset would become prominent, with a measurement between Mercury (mindset) and Saturn (heavy) at the Aries Point (prominence). During Saturday’s emotional Pisces Moon void, his mindset clearly pulled focus — in a since-deleted Instagram post declaring “I really don’t know how much longer I can last (on Earth).”   If Mr. Davidson gets the help he needs and does stick around, patterns in his horoscope suggest strong potential for love and support…with a new creative passion to come by late spring of 2019. Fingers crossed.

Ms. Grande is a Cancer, driven by an over-the-top people-pleasing Libra Moon. With a Capricorn Ascendant, she needs to be seen as a woman in charge, likely in ways that are game-changing. Transiting Pluto and transiting Saturn have hit Ms. Grande hard in 2018; thus the prediction that this year and next would be big.  She was reportedly devastated by the death of a former boyfriend, rapper Mac Miller — in September. True to the caring potential of her horoscope, Ms. Grande went public on Saturday with a grand declaration of support for her ex-fiance, who did show up for work at 30 Rock to the relief of friends, family and fans.

In other celebrity news, the NYT did a big story on Ellen DeGeneres to hype the first comedy special she’s done in 15 years. Here is her horoscope. Ellen is a humanitarian Aquarius, driven by a Moon in me-me-me Aries. She’s here to inspire and get there first. She may have Sagittarius rising (the birth time is not confirmed), suggesting a need to be seen as someone with righteous opinions and optimism. In 2018 and 2019, transiting Uranus squares Jupiter, ruler of that hypothetical Sag Ascendant. We anticipate the potential to for windfall opportunities to expand and change the way she is seen. With transiting Uranus squaring her Aquarius Sun starting in the middle of 2019, we anticipate a strong need for even greater independence and innovation. She’s committed to continue with her talk show until 2020…and then…who knows? I think we’ll see efforts to break out of the mold long before then.

Closing now with one of my favorite 90-second animated shorts. It’s called Perpetual Motion not to be missed — especially if you love weird science and cats. Onward!

Thank you for reading this forecast.

Saturday & Sunday 12/15/2018: Pre-Sneak Peek at the Week; ACA Astrology Update

Moon is void of course in Pisces for most of the day on Saturday. If you are new to this forecast (welcome!) and don’t know what a Moon void is, here’s the 411.  The void started at 6:49 AM ET and will end at 7:44 PM ET. Now is the time to sleep in; roll with the twists and flakes that may disrupt efforts to move forward in a straight line. Go with the flow; don’t freak out over perceived “crises” that may crop up; they are likely much ado about nothing and will resolves themselves once the Moon gets back into gear. Avoid impulse purchases; stick to routine. Chill!

See if you notice the shift in energy tonight, once the Moon charges ahead in me-me-me Aries. An Aries Moon needs to lead and inspire. Use that fiery drive on Sunday and Monday, aided and abetted by two Really Helpful Planetary Patterns, in effect now. First is an alignment between Venus (social expression, money, women, aesthetics) and Saturn (structure, ambition, patriarchy), exact on SUNDAY at 9:27 AM ET.  This is the third in a series that began on September 12th; the second happened on October 24th. If you’re seeing a recap of issues in your life that were hot on those dates, your horoscope is personally affected by this pattern. If you have a planet around 2-9 degrees of Capricorn, Aries, Libra or Cancer, this means you. Perhaps you reviewed your financial plan — aptly so during the recent Venus retrograde — and now you’re getting ready to implement it. That’s one of many possibilities.

The second Really Helpful Planetary Pattern is an alignment  (a sextile) between Mars and Pluto, exact at 1:53 AM ET on MONDAY. Mars refers to action and courage; at present the energy of action may be expressed as diffuse or steamy, as Mars is still in Pisces. Upside: action/courage arising out of empathy, intuition or compassion. Pluto refers to power and resources, suggesting an ease of accomplishment. You are personally affected if you have a planet or angle around 20 degrees of just about any sign.

Back to SUNDAY, where practical exuberance may be squelched (downside) or advanced (upside) around 2:21 PM ET, when the crusading Moon is squared by a Designated Authority Figure (Saturn).

No sleeping in on MONDAY. The Aries Moon is going full speed ahead, and the work week begins with an emotional catharsis or power play, as the Moon makes its weekly clash with Pluto at 10:20 AM ET. Other than that, overall planetary patterns are less tense now and next week.  Push for that innovative, humanitarian vision. If your horoscope is personally affected by upcoming patterns, we see the potential for big news that gets noticed, especially on this FRIDAY’s winter solstice. Consult your local astrologer for details.

And now, the news.

Friday ended on an especially assertive/combative note, suggested by a meet-up between the Pisces Moon and Mars at 9:19 PM ET. The big story in the early evening news dump: “A judge in Texas rules that Obamacare is unconstitutional.”  Are we surprised? Not at all — as we see in my last post about the fate of the Affordable Care Act from January 2018 (where you will find ACA’s horoscope):

Looking at future transits, there’s a lot going on in the fall of 2018 to suggest a radical overturning of the status quo, and a revolutionary intensification of the ACA’s prime directive: to create and maintain emotional security in ways that are nurturing. At the same time, we see a potential streamlining — OR — an ambitious advance. The ACA has a Cancer Moon, ruling a prominent Cancer Ascendant. Contacts to the Moon from Pluto, Saturn and the Sun suggest anguish and power plays and patriarchal opposition– apt, no? The ACA is mostly fire, water and cardinal signs. We can see how it would be likely to change form.

The ACA horoscope was hit by disruptive measurements (solar arcs, for astrology pros and students) from Uranus to Pluto and the Moon in September and the end of November, respectively. What happened in September? A judge in Texas heard arguments challenging the constitutionality of ACA. Interestingly enough, by November many Republicans running for office voiced support for the pre-existing conditions provisos in ACA, while accusing Democrats of trying to destroy them (!!!). Yesterday, ACA’s natal Venus (in caring Cancer) was exactly squared by Pluto, suggesting emotional overkill; taking a sledgehammer to a project when a teensy little mallet would far better serve. Thus we get a ruling tossing the whole baby out of the window, along with the bathtub.

The odious judge in this case — Reed O’Connor — is a man of Federalist Society mystery. We know he was born in Texas in 1965 and that’s it. Thus we know he carries the seeds of the revolution in his horoscope (especially if he was born late in the year),  as 1965 marked the first of three conjunctions between Uranus and Pluto in Virgo. Yes, in Virgo, which refers to health, thank you very much.

Guess what else was born in 1965? Medicare — signed into law on July 30, 1965 in Independence, Missouri — shortly after 3:09 PM.  Here is that chart — I chose 3:15 PM as a time — it could have been a little earlier or later, but Sagittarius rising, regardless. Plus I like the 21 Virgo Midheaven squared by Jupiter at 22 Gemini, as it engages the Mars-Neptune square in the U.S. horoscope. With transiting Jupiter activating all of the planets/angles in this chart that are in Virgo, Pisces, Gemini and Sagittarius, it’s hard for me to believe that Medicare (and by extension, ACA) won’t be on an expansive bent. Efforts to curtail expansion may crop up when transiting Saturn squares Medicare’s 17 Libra Mars in 2019, but 2020 looks revolutionary and potentially empowering (look for clues in Medicare’s development during 1976 and 1997).

Random good news for my fellow treehuggers:

Meanwhile, the deadline for signing up for your 2019 Affordable Care Health Plan is TODAY. Here’s what you need to know.

Thursday 12/13/2018: Women on the Verge

Alllll- righty then!!

The Moon will soon wrap up its sojourn through Aquarius, where it’s been cruising with little interference since Tuesday night. It goes void on THURSDAY at 5:20 AM ET for two hours and twenty minutes. East Coasters, that’s your excuse for whatever flake or twist may disrupt your morning. Pour hot water over coffee beans you forgot to grind? Yeah, I’ve done that, too.

At 7:40 AM ET Moon enters Pisces, driven more by intuition than by logic. Moon clashes with Mercury in boundary-pushing Sagittarius at 8:39 AM ET, making for extra-spunky morning chit-chat. Then you’re free to go with the intuitive flow for the rest of the business day. If a holiday party or holiday shopping is on your evening calendar, good times and exuberance as suggested, as the Moon harmonizes with Venus and squares Jupiter between 11:10 PM and 11:44 PM ET. If you’re outside after midnight, don’t miss the Geminids meteors, which peak tonight!

And now, the news…

…much of which continues to reflect last week’s wiggy Sun-Mars-Neptune action. Were you personally affected? You would have been, if you had planets or angles around 14 degrees of Pisces, Sagittarius, Gemini and Virgo. But there are other ways in which you might have been affected. Exhibit A: yours truly. That Mars-Neptune conjunction activated my 3rd house, which refers to how one needs to think and communication. The energy of action (Mars) combined with intangibles (Neptune) inspired me to get back into a regular meditation practice, which I have not had for some time.  How so? With the help of fabulous app called Headspace ( their motto: “Meditation made simple.”)  How apt is this app right now? Head = Mars; Space – Neptune. Fun fact: I heard about this app from Avid Reader Katharine months ago. Now I could get down on myself for not trying it out earlier, but that would be a waste of time. According to my horoscope, the perfect time to get into Headspace is now! Astrology is amazing.

More far-out stories, from the spacey to the scandalous:

Random item reflecting Jupiter (expansion) in Sagittarius (freedom of the press; righteous truth; publishing): Time magazine names “The Guardians” as its Person of the Year. Who are the guardians? Journalists fighting “the war on truth” — and being imprisoned or killed as a result. Murdered WaPo journalist Jamal Khashoggi is one of several on the cover.

Meanwhile, in the wake of P45’s big, fat, depressing reality check (karma cop Saturn opposing mental Mercury on Dec 10th), we see:

Speaking of Nancy Pelosi, doesn’t she look fabulous in red, as we’d expect an Aries would?

She wore red on the cover of a recent NYT magazine, too. Now that transiting Saturn is no longer putting the squeeze on her Aries Sun, it’s hard to imagine her not reclaiming her power as the next Speaker of the House. She’s apparently cut a deal with incoming progressives to limit her term to four years, right about at her Uranus return. By then, she’ll likely be ready to set herself free.

Here is her horoscope. Add a Scorpio Moon to the mix and she’s indomitable. Toss in three planets in Taurus and the irresistible force moonlights as the immovable object. Her Mars is at 25 Taurus, right on P45’s Midheaven and square to his regal Mars in Leo. That’s a potentially provocative dynamic. Fun Fact: Mitch McConnell also has at least three planets in Taurus, including his Mars.

Meanwhile, across the pond, Theresa May — a Libra driven by a perfectionist Virgo or regal Leo Moon (we don’t have a birth time) — seems to have survived the near-death experience of transiting Saturn square her Sun. That pattern was exact on December 4th, followed by a need for assertion under attack, suggested by transiting Mars on her natal Mars — exact December 7th. A vote of no -confidence was held today; her opponents did not prevail.  The PM was not wearing red.

In other news, I am so proud of Avid Reader Kay, who had the good sense to call me for a quick planetary “weather” outlook for the rest of the month. She was planning an important business trip — how was it likely to go? I told her that her biggest challenge was likely to come on Dec 11th, but after that brick wall, the rest of the journey looked dreamy. She said she would be traveling on the 11th; I recommended that she roll with any hurdles and take extra care to make herself comfortable. Here’s the email I received on the 11th: “The ‘challenging’ aspects of my week kicked in with fury today — missed connection and spending night in Vienna as a result — will have a full day there! but I was prepared — because of my excellent astrologer!”

Astrology can be such an empowering tool for helping manage expectations. What’s going on in your horoscope? Have you thought about planning a strategy for 2019

Last but not least, the 2019 Mercury retrograde bookmarks have arrived!! I spent a big part of the day stuffing them into festive gold envelopes with personal notes to fabulous Avid Readers. Why not stuff them into the stockings of friends and family (and keep one for yourself)?  The bookmarks, mind you — not your fellow Avid Readers — though that’s an intriguing thought.   Toss $11.88 into my Cosmic Tip Jar, and email me your snail mail address. I’ll put those Really Useful Mercury Retrograde Survival Guide Bookmarks in the mail today.

Thank you for reading this forecast.
